Impossible to access airport utility 6.1

Since upadting to 6.1, impossible to open this bloody airport utility.
Only have the dialog with Internet globe green, and underneath the wheel spinning for hours.

If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Access Airport Utility from Status Bar?

Hello - is there any clever way to enable access of "Airport Utility" from the WIFI Icon in my status bar (top right toolbar)?
The WIFI icon has option "open network preferences" but nothing to open Airport Utility.
If I hold the option and click the WIFI Icon, I get WIFI diagnostics, but no Airport Utility.
i would really like to remove Airport Utitlity from my dock but access with 1 click.
    thankyou

    Hi there LaPastenague
I have the Monitor Airport setting already as you kindly shown me. Plus the other 2 checkboxes checked. Thankyou.
LaPastenague - you likely help heaps of people - but its me again, I am opening and closing Airport Utilty alot to check connectivity as I am still experiencing the slow web page loads. I did the Iv6 link-only as you last helped me. I am the person in bridge-mode on the Time Capcule.
I have also noticed I am seeing "noresult " in my Finder/Path Finder window when I search on my HD or 2TB Time Capscule I use as an external drive.  Then the results appear. So something is not right.
What i have been doing more regularly to help with my "slow page load problem", is turning off the ISP's wireless router and then wait 10min and back on. This brings town TC as its bridged.
What I have noticed, when I open up Airport Utility first, it says Internet is "disconnected". But in my WIFI Icon it shows all good. Then after a while it shows Internet connected.
    when I open initially
    then after a while:
What I have read, is perhaps I should remove the 4 DNS settings and back to one. The ISP gave me the 4 DSN settings and asked me to put them in, in attempt to improve slow page load speed.

  • Errormassage # 10057 when trying to access Airport Utility

I have an Airport Express working as a router to create a wireless network. I have access to internet and AE is working (green light is on). When I try to open Airport Utility and access by clicking on " continue" or the AE icon an error message 10057 is displayed saying than an error occoured when accessing to AE.
What is blocking access to AE?

I have been facing the same 10057 message and can not go on.
I'm trying to add AE (Airport ver 5.4.2) to the excisting network to stream the music to my amplifier.
I can sometimes find and connect to AE (green light) but getting them both in same network ends always to 10057 message.
I don't know if the IEv6 should be on or off but I have tried both - no help.
I have also tried to join the excisting network without any encryption but even that does not help.
I'm quite tired "hitting the head to the wall".
Is there anybody who could help?
    Thank you for your support.

  • Mavericks: why can't I access Airport Utility?

I wanted to check that my network was still hidden after installing Mavericks.
However, when I go to Utilities, this is what I see.
Supposedly I have Airport 5.6. I have an Airport Express from 2005? ( I know... I need to upgrade).
Should I download one of these, if so, which one?
    Thanks.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport

Turns out my router, model A1084 was first introduced in June of 2004. While I could not access the AirPort Utility using my iMac that runs Mavericks, we went ahead and accessed it using my 2006 MacBook.
    My MacBook runs Tiger.
I reset my AirPort router, (unplugged it from wall), then waited a few minutes, held a paperclip in the bottom hole to reset it and while holding said paperclip, plugged back into outlet.
    Also unplugged Modem.
    Plugged Modem back in.
Checked available networks and now it showed a generic AirPort network, unsecure.
Created a NEW wireless network and password.
Signed in from my iPad 2 to test it out. Then to the iMac. All good.
For anyone who is having problems with an older router running Mavericks, if you have an older Mac that runs Mountain Lion or lower, this should work for you if you configure your settings using your OLDER Mac.
Hope this helps someone out there with a similar problem.

  • Can Not Access Airport Utility or USB Disk Over Wireless with WEP Enabled

I have an AirPort Extreme base station, with several Windows XP (SP2) machines connected to it. I am able to access the base station through the AirPort Utility (v5.1) using the machines that are connected to the base station via ethernet cables. However, when I attempt to configure the base station using a wireless connection on my Win XP laptop, it says that no base stations can be found. It will also not connect to the USB hard drive (no hards drives appear in the AirPort Disk Utility.) I AM able to browse the web via the wireless connection however. When I turn off WEP, the laptop is able to see the base station through the AirPort Utility, so I know it has something to do with the security, but I have not been able to narrow the problem down beyond that.
    Any suggestions?
      Windows XP

    Hi,
I'm having a similar problem. I am using the airport extreme with a MacBook and a PC running windows XP, The MacBook is the computer that I used to configure the settings in the airport utility for the base station. I set it up this way with the assistance of an Apple representative. When I view the disk tab in the airport utility, I can see the USB drive connected to the base station. I can also see the USB drive on the desktop of the Mac. On the PC however, I can't seem to locate the USB drive anywhere. I can't see it anywhere in explorer and the drive doesn't show up when I use an application and attempt to open a file. Does this sound similar to your experience and were you able to resolve the problem?

  • Unable to access airport utility

I have an Apple Extreme Base Station an I am no longer able to access the airport utility. the AEBS shows up in the utility but if I try to access the manual or assisted setup, it asks for a password and reverts back to the main screen.
If I try to hard reset with nothing but the power connected, nothing happens.
I've held the reset button in for 3 + minutes with no possitive result.
Before I bring it back to the store, I am asking if anyone has seen this issue before.
    Thank you

    Bruce,
Double clicking on the Icon pulled up a new window and the password was successful.
    Thank you,
I will most likely bring it back to the store for the faulty reset button.

  • Can't access airport utility in 9.2

Hi! I’d really appreciate some help if anyone has a moment.
I use a G5, 10.4, cable connection, Airport Express. I have a G3, wireless, running 10.2 as a back-up machine. I want to install 10.4 on the G3 but it says I need a firmware update first and that the firmware download must be to OS9. I can’t get an internet connection in OS9 – I get a message saying that the airport utility does not exist or is disabled. What to do?
My problem is compounded by the fact that OS9 looks like a foreign language to me
    TIA.

    Hi, Alliebean -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
...and that the firmware download must be to OS9.
I think you have misunderstood the info on the download page for the firmware updater.
It does not state that the download must be to OS 9, only that it must be installed while the machine is booted to OS 9. 'Downloading' and 'installing' are not at all the same thing.
It is perfectly okay to download the updater in OSX - just be sure to not decompress it nor to open it while the machine is booted to OSX.
Once you have downloaded the firmware update, reboot the machine into OS 9. Then decompress the updater by double-clicking it.
You may need to drop it (the file whose name ends in .smi.bin) onto the icon for Stuffit Expander to complete the decompression of the download. the result should be a file whose nae ends in ".smi".
Note - before dropping it onto Stuffit Expander, double-click Stuffit Expander, and open its Preferences (under the File menu). Select "Disk Images" from the list on the left, then turn off (uncheck) "Mount Disk Images". Quit Stuffit Expander.
The result should be a file whose name ends in ".smi". Double-click that to mount the dsik image it contains - a new icon should appear on the right-hand side of the desktop. Then open that disk image - inside will be a readme (it's a good idea to print that out), and an installer program (G3 Firmware Updater), plus one additional file (which can be ignored). After familiarizing yourself with the contents of the readme, double-click the installer program and follow the instructions.

  • Printer Doesn't Appear in Airport Utility for Time Capsule Setup

    Hello group.
I've been researching solutions, applying them and contacting Apple for help and so far - I'm still in a pickle.
    Here's the skinny:
    1) Have AT&T Uverse with AT&T wireless modem. This runs cable/TV, phone, fax and Internet.
    2) Setup MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard 10.6 and Airport Utility 5.4.2.
    3) Purchased a Time Capsule (1TB).
    4) Printer is a HP Officejet 6210 All-in-One.
I would like to use the TC's wireless printing capabilities. However, when I access Airport Utility, it doesn't recognize or acknowledge the HP printer connected to the TC. It simply states: NONE.
What are some of the things that I've done to try and remedy:
    1) Uninstalled and reinstalled HP's current driver and software from their website.
    2) Removed and added back the HP printer through the 'Printers & Faxes' pane.
    3) Powered down the HP and the TC, disconnected all plugs and powered back up multiple times.
    4) Restarted the MacBook several times.
    5) Spoke with HP Mac Support and received confirmation that printing should work with TC and HP 6200.
    6) Spoke with Apple and they are perplexed.
    7) Performed both 'soft' and 'hard' resets of the TC - still nothing.
    8) Read and followed the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS125 (nothing worked)
    9) Plugged the HP directly to the MacBook and it prints perfectly.
    10) Tested the TC USB port with a flash drive and it recognizes (via AU) and works without error.
I'm at a total loss. Perhaps I have the wiring and setup options chosen incorrectly? Would love any help that can be provided.
Worth mentioning - prior to the TC, I had purchased and Airport and was able to print wirelessly without a hitch. The Airport was exchanged for the TC (needed backup capabilities) and now I'm in the lurch.
Thanks to all for any assistance that can be given.

    Welcome to the discussions, MindSprout!
I'm following your post with interest because I have an HP 6210 as well with a 1TB Time Capsule. No issues at all since it was installed over a year ago. I'm not using Snow Leopard (yet), so can't offer any comments as to whether that might be one of the possible issues here, but that was my first thought.
If I get SL installed this weekend, I will post back with results.
The other thought that comes to mind is that there may be a problem with the printing instructions passing through the USB port on your TC. I can't answer why a hard drive functions perfectly, though.

  • Airport Utility and System Keychain Problem

I'm having a strange issue when trying to access Airport Utility on our imac. When I click on manual update I get a popup box asking for the administrator user name and pass word because Mac OS X wants to use System keychain. When I type those in the boxes and click allow an error message appears saying I typed an invalid password. I've rebooted, I booted up in Safe Mode which asks you for a password before it logs in - no problems there. I didn't try to access AU from there, not sure if that's possible. I've even gone to account settings and changed the password which requires you to enter the current password, that worked. I used the new password with that warning from Airport Utility but got the same error. I went back and changed the password back to the original and tried again, same error.
I don't normally access AU on that computer, I use my laptop and there are no problems there, so I don't know if this is a problem that just cropped up under SL or not. So far that's the only instance of this popping up with that issue. I don't believe I've ever seen it say it needed to access the System keychain before. Another oddity to this is I can open up Keychain Access and click on unlock the System keychain which then asks you for an administrator password, I enter it and it unlocks with no issue. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    John

Sometimes the Keychain just gets a bit "wonky." The simplest resolve, in most cases, is to delete all entries with the Kind of "AirPort base station password" and "AirPort network password" in the Keychain using the Keychain Access utility.

  • How do I access an older AX in a newer vesion of the Airport Utility?

I have had an AX network for over 3 years and have had no problems with it. I just bought a new one to add to my network and I am having all kinds of problems now. Airport utility recognizes both units, but will not allow me to access the older one. It states "An error occured while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network conection is valid and try again. Error -6765". Does anyone know what this means?
I did a factory reset of the older unit and I am still having the problem. I thought if I could update the software on the older one that it might work, but it won't give me access to do it.
    Please Help!!!!!!!!!

I found another thread from the June 3rd with the same issue. They seam to have a solution, but I am using windows. Does anyone know how to update older AXs on windows computers?

  • Airport Utility won't accept password, though it's the same that I'm using for my wi-fi access.

    Hello,
First-time asker, multi-time reader. Could not find this situation exactly in other posts.
I’m having trouble accessing two different Airports.
I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n (4th generation) handling the wi-fi for 3 laptops and 2 iPhones, but I needed to extend the range within the home one room so I got a Airport Express.
It’s showing up in the Airport Utility when I try to set it up, but each time I try it asks me to “enter the password for the selected airport wireless device.”
I type in the password I use when I need to access the wifi (the “WEP” password I guess?), but it’s never accepted. I’ve tried this on 3 of the Macs.
After reading some relevant comments here, I confirmed this as the “Airport network password” with the Keychain on 2 Macs. My Keychain does not show a “Base station password” at all.
I typed it in on 3 different keyboards, no caps lock, etc.
I’ve tied adding “$” and using “public,” to no avail.
I’m assuming that the password it’s asking for is the same password same as WEP password, the one that’s used when a friend visits and wants to use my wi-fi instead of 3G. It’s my network password. Is that right? Or is there some other password needed? My Keychain does not show a “Base station password” at all.
It does this for the existing Extreme as well as the Express.
It asks for the password whether I try to update the firmware as directed (7.4.2 to 7.6.1 for the Express, 7.5.1 to 7.6.1 for the Extreme), or if I click “Manual” to set up the Express.
Same thing happens using the Apple Airport Utility App on my iPhone.
I did the factory res-et thing on the Express, and it showed up with a generic name described as “with factory-default settings” so then I clicked Continue. This brought up the box saying “Are you sure you want to switch wireless networks? Setting up this AirPort wireless device requires switching wireless networks. Switching wireless networks may interrupt your connection to the Internet.”
I don’t want to switch, I want to add the Express to the existing Extreme network, so I’m (ignorantly) hesitant to say yes. Besides, it will probably just ask for a password, so I’m back to square one.
I’m mainly working on a Second Gen MacBookAir (3,2), Intel Core 2 Duo with AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0xD1), Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.42.4) 802.11 a/b/g/n. But this situation is the same on multiple Macs and iPhones.
All my devices work fine on w-fi, but none can access the Airports using the password as mentioned above with the goal of updating firmware and setting up the Express.
So anyone have any suggestions for this issue the password problem?
    Just Wonderin.
    Thanks so much.

    Jaime...
    Open Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
type    base station   in the search field top right corner of the window.
Right or control click the base station keychain then click Get Info
    Select the Attributes tab.
    Click: Show Password
Now, you can use that password or set up one of your own. If you want to create a new password right or control click the current base station keychain then click Delete.
    Now open Airport Utility  /Applications/Utilities
Select the base station on the left.
Click Manual Setup then select AirPort from the menu then select the Wireless tab
Type in a new password, then type it in again to verify.
Then select:  Remember this password in my keychain
    Then click Update.
If at some point you forget the password for your wireless network just follow the instructions for Keychain Access above.

What is Airport Utility and why do I need to access Airport witeless devices in order to backup my iMac using Time Machine...HELP!!! PLEASE??

AirPort Utility is required to configure an Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.
Time Machine can use a Time Capsule or a locally connected volume. You only need to use AirPort Utility if you are using a Time Capsule.
