Impossible to open Raw file on network drive (macOS)

Hi,
When i try to open a RAW file, either .NEF (Nikon) or .PEF (Pentax) from a network drive, i have this error :
"could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zqxtcfmmuj3fff1/Photoshoperror.png
The behavior is the same in Lightroom 4.
The strange thing is this: when i copy the same file (from the network drive) over my desktop, it is working FINE !!???
OS is MacOS Maverick with version 7.1 of camera raw (i need version 4.4 to open the .PEF)

Sounds like a problem with network not loading the ACR plugin.  Not a problem we can solve here.

  • Delay when opening QT files on network drives

This is on Windows XP, QuickTime 7 Pro...
When I try to open any QuickTime-associated file, if that file's on a network drive, there's a delay of at least 30 seconds before the QT player opens and is ready to play the file (during the delay, there's little or no apparent network or disk activity).
It's not caused by a slow network, because when I open AVI or WMV files of similar sizes on the same network drive, Windows Media Player opens and starts to play them within a second or two.
It's not caused by my anti-virus software, because the same thing happens even if I've disabled the anti-virus software.
It's also not a general QuickTime problem because if I copy the file to my local drive and then open that copy, the QT player opens right away.
It does seem to be related to the underlying QuickTime system (rather than the higher level player), because the delay also happens if I assign Real Player to open MOV files instead of the QT player. The only difference is that instead of NOTHING happening for 30 seconds, the Real Player window opens immediately but doesn't show any video and is unresponsive until the file starts playing 30+ seconds later.
I went into the QT control panel and fiddled with the streaming and advanced settings, but nothing seems to help.
Is this a known problem and if so what's the solution?

I use a 10/100 ethernet network and notice a slight difference (but not 30 seconds) as compared to "local" files. The same happens with nearly any other file format.
On internal HD's on the network (Mac and PC) I get the slight delay. A Firewire drive on the same network seems to be about normal.
    Try this:
Set the QuickTime "cache" (QT Control Panel/Advanced tab) large enough to keep a copy.
Use your current method to open the QT file (waiting if needed).
Use the QuickTime "Favorites" menu to "bookmark" the file.
Quit and relaunch QuickTime and try opening from the Favorites menu.
    Quicker?
Empty the QT "cache" and try from the Favorites menu again.

  • CS5 crashes when trying to open RAW files. Help?

    Hi!
I recently had to reinstall CS5.1 on my mac (OSX 10.9.5) after formatting the hard drive and for some reason I'm no longer able to open RAW-files, neither in photoshop nor bridge. I have tried to remove and reinstall CS5, update my mac and camera raw, but nothing seams to help. I read somewhere else on the forum that it could help to delete the Camera Raw folder in the library, but that didn't help either. Any tips to what might be wrong?

    beltal wrote:
The newest update for CS5 I could find is 12.0.4, while the version that was installed is 12.1. So I guess re-installing gave me the newest version and not the original? I have tried installing Camera Raw 6.7 both using the updater in photoshop and downloading it manually from adobe, but it makes no difference.
I've never known any Adobe download of a whole application to install a newer version than the original.  You must have updated it yourself somehow, or you did not use the Adobe-provided Uninstaller to uninstall it in the first place.  Never just "delete" an application; always use the Uninstaller.
By "deleting the ACR plug-in" do you mean the Camera Raw folder in the library? In that case, it was recreated when I deleted and reinstalled the software again, so it should not be any problem. I just gave it a try since it worked for someone else with the same problem: Can't open RAW .NEF images in Photoshop CS5
"Deleting" as opposed to uninstalling was my first worry; but no, I wasn't referencing any Folder, but the plug-in itself.
Note that in the correct path to the Camera Raw plug-in there is no such thing as a "Camera Raw folder".  There is a Camera Raw folder in a different path inside the root-level Library, but that one has absolutely nothing to do with the ACR plug-in nor with anything else we have been discussing here.  That latter "Camera Raw Folder" does not contain the plug-in; it contains only Adobe Patch Files, CameraProfiles and LensProfiles folders.  Don't mess with that one.

  • Cannot print file to network drive.

Hello...I've searched the forum and have not seen this specific question.  My company recently upgraded to Windows 7 and we use Acrobat X.  When we print from something such as Outlook, Word, notepad, etc., then select Adobe PDF as the printer...then select the location to print to as a network drive, it always fails.  The printer icon has a yellow sign with an exclamation point, and when you open the printer properties, it just says "Error printing".  If you select a local drive, such as C:\temp, it works fine.  It's not a permission issue, because I have full admin rights, and it still fails.  We have multiple users trying to do this, and it's the same for everyone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This part is not working when you choose a location other than a local disk.
opening document to print > selecting adobe pdf printer > saving file to network drive > print
The job sits in the print queue, stating an error and I not been able to determine what the error is.
What I did just find out that worked is using the Acrobat Office addin "Create PDF".  I am running office 2007.

  • I'm using a 30 days trial of PS  CC...but I Can't open raw files from my NIKON D 7100

I can't open raw files in PS CC.
    I'm using NIKON D7100.

    Noel,
Good morning, and may I just add  THANK YOU!
While certainly not as efficient or handy, that is the answer.  I simply
instructed my PC to open the containing folder, in this case my direct card
reader, and manually copied the files to my hard drive (highlight first and
last-SHIFT-Enter) and moved them to a pre-named subdirectory.
I opened PScc and pointed to that file, clicked on the photo I wanted and
VIOLA!  Opened in Camera Raw and I was off to the races!
Perhaps the user groups can make some noise and someone at Nikon may take
    notice!
    Thanks again for the suggestion.

  • I am unable to open raw files from my Canon T1i in Adobe Camera Raw of my version CS3 of Photoshop.  I have tried to update my ACR by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe website but I am still unable to open raw files, just JPEG.  Is there a way to use

I am unable to open raw files taken on my Canon Rebel T1i in my version of Photoshop CS3.  When I import raw files into Bridge they come up as patches with CR2 on them and when clicked on, a notice comes up stating that Photoshop does not recognize these files.  I tried to update my Adobe Camera Raw by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe Website, but when I clicked on the plus-in, I got another message that Photoshop does not recognize this file.  I spoke with a representative from Canon who said that I could not update CS3 and that I should subscribe to the Cloud.  I would prefer to use my CS3, if possible.  Can anyone advise me what to do?

The T1i was first supported by Camera Raw 5.4 which is only compatible with CS4 and later
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    Some options:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all T1i Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS3

  • How to open Raw files from Canon 1100D and 650D in CS5?

I need assistance please. I have a Canon 1100D and 650D. On Photoshop CS5 it does not recognise the 2 Cameras Raw files. What is my course of action. Help will be highly appreciated

evjems, As per the below article, Canon EOS 1100D needs minimum Adobe Camera Raw(ACR) version 6.4 and Canon EOS 650D needs minimum ACR version 7.1
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
So, you should be able to open raw files of 1100D, if you upgrade your PS ( Help > Updates), but not of 650D as it needs PS CS6 and above.
Let me know in case you still have any doubts.
    Hope that Helps!

  • Unable to open RAW files after reinstalling Photoshop CS4

I recently did a system recovery to my computer due to downgrading to Windows 7; however, after I installed Design Premium back to my PC, I am not able to open RAW files in Photoshop. It prompted "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." I tried to check for Photoshop updates but no updates are available. I tried re-installing Design Premium but the issue still persists.
My system configuration is as follows:
Windows 7 Professional x64 (Yet to install Service Pack 1, but I don't think that really matters)
Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium (Photoshop Version 11.0)
Canon EOS 50D (Firmware Version 1.08)
Anyone may have a clue on how to fix that? Thanks a lot!
    Screenshot as follows:

When you reinstalled CS4, you  went back to the original release.
Now you must apply all the updates to Photoshop and to  Adobe Camera Raw manually.
You cannot rely on the Adobe auto updater to tell you that you are up to date.  That updater was broken for years and years, and that was and is certainly the case with CS4.
Adobe didn't get their updater act together until CS6.
You also have to update the ACR plug-in manually.

  • Unable to open RAW files in CS6 after update

    Hi all,
I have Photoshop CS6 and have been able to open my D4 Raw files with no issues using the Camera Raw version 7.1 plugin.
Yesterday I upgraded my Mac OS from Snow Leopard to Yosemite (a big jump I agree) and proceeded to update Photoshop to the latest version as well as installing Adobe DNG Converter 8.8.
I am apparently still using the same 7.1 plugin version as I always have but I am now no longer able to open any RAW files through Photoshop as it displays a message saying 'files not recognised' when I try to open them.
Have I skipped too many updates? Do the latest Photoshop CS6 updates leave me unable to open RAW files? Am I being pushed down the CC route?
Could anybody offer any help at all as I have a wedding to edit but cannot open any files!!! Stress!!!
I backed up my system through Time Machine before I did the update but im not sure if I restore that I will still have Yosemite OS running.
Any help or advice really is appreciated.
    Many thanks.
    Phil

Camera RAW should be at version 8.8 for CS6

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and cannot open Raw files from my Canon EOS 1000D camera.

I am using Photoshop Elements 9 on a Windows 7 based PC and would like to know why I cannot open Raw files produced by my Canon EOS 1000D camera.
I have checked the version of the plug in as 6.5 for raw files which is supposed to open .cr2 files and should be compatible according to Adobe site info.
    any ideas for next move.
    Mick

    Hi,
According to all of Adobe's charts, the Canon 1000D should be supported by the basic PSE 9 even without updates. When you said you checked the camera raw version in PSE, did you do that by going to the Help menu and selecting About plugins -> Camera raw?
The Canon 1200D requires ACR 8.4 which is only compatible with PSE 12 - so for PSE 10 your brother would need the DNG converter.
I can't find a sample raw file to try (I do have PSE 9). If you want to upload a sample file to dropbox and give me access, I could try it on my system.
Have you tried opening one of your files on your brothers system?

  • CS5 is opening raw files as a smart object to files im currently working

I just bough new CS 5 and find this big error. When i open raw file in Camera Raw and i have opened some jpg in CS5, it always opened as a smart object to this small jpg i have opened before. The same is doing my CS 5 when i drag some file from desktop, it always ended as a smart object in file im currently working with. Normaly it has to open as a new file not as a smart object in this file im already working with.

How are you opening your RAW files? If you are dragging and dropping them onto Photoshop, on top of an already opened file's workspace -  all files will be placed as smart objects. If you drag the files to anywhere else in the interface, for instance the grey area on top of the workspace, they should open as usual. If you are opening them via Bridge or by double-clicking them in Explore, they should open as normal.
