  • What plugin do I need to play midi files in Safari 7.0

I just upgraded to Maverick and Safari 7.0, and now when I click on midi file links at a website that I have long used, I get an error message saying I am missing a required plugin.  What plugin is necessary to play midi files with Safari?

  • Midi files in Safari.

The console is displayed but no sound is heard. On Opera, Chrome and Firefox there is no problem.
When I look at the Safari preferences, no extensions are shown.
I am running MacOS 10.7.5 on a Notebook, with Safari 6.1.1. The problem began about one year ago, but I can't remember exactly.

    No reactions in three months?
Let me be a little more specific: Midi files open correctly in the Finder, or in other browsers, but not in Safari. So it does not seem to be a MacOS X problem, but strictly a Safari problem.
    Any idea?

  • Playing MIDI files through safari browser

I have been using an online web app called "piano player plus" that uses MIDI files to teach the piano and the app works for pcs using some kind of virtual synth built into windows called "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth"... however there doesn't seem to be a way to integrate the application with safari.
If there is a way I can just route the midi information to go to a synth that would be amazing. Coz I know a lot of mac users are having the same problem. Its one of those rare occasions where pcs are easier than macs.
I don't know what the IAC bus does but could that work?
    Thanks

    Hi
the issue is, those pages use the bgsound tag to play the midi files, and only Internet Explorer supports it. The file is perfectly playable in safari or any browser, or quicktime player.
eg http://www.hearandplay.com/s05.mid (this will likely download automatically, due to the way their server is configured)
Short of seeing if the ancient & unsupported & insecure IE5 will run on your mac, assuming you can find a download ( don't bother looking at Microsoft ), you're stuck. apart from checking the source code of each page & downloading each midi file to play in Quicktime... better finding another online tutor site, I'd think; sorry.

  • Problems with reading a pdf-file using Safari/Adobe Acrobat Pro

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5. and Safari in Snow Leopard I open the pdf-file of  http://dare.uva.nl/document/505726 and small boxes appear in the text f.i. on page 70, 74, on the last page etc.
I don't know why those small boxes appear only on my MacBook Pro with the installed software and others don't read a corrupt text. If I click in den pdf-file on the right side of the mouse and choose "open with Adobe Acrobat Pro" the pdf-file opens correctly (without small boxes)!

As you discovered, Adobe Acrobat/Pro/Reader v.9 will crash for all managed user accounts that store their home folders on the server because it has "difficulty" reading and writing to a folder across a network, which is why it crashes shortly after it launches.
HOWEVER, there is hope. All you need to do is tell Adobe to write all of its files to the local drive rather than the home folder on the sharepoint, as follows:
While logged into your network-user account:
    1. Go to the "Shared" folder on the local drive. (Local HD > Users > Shared)
    2. Create a new folder named "9.0_x86" if you have an Intel or "9.0_ppc" if you have a PPC (without the quotes for either case). You will have to authenticate as an Administrator.
    3. Go to the Acrobat folder within the user's Application Support and delete the folder in it.
    (Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat > 9.0_x86 or 9.0_ppc)
    4. Open/launch the Terminal application found within the Utilities folder on you Mac.
    (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app)
    5. In Terminal, enter the 1st command for Intel or the 2nd for PPC:
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_x86 ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86
    OR
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_ppc ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_ppc
Adobe Acrobat 9 should now work properly. You may get the "quit unexpectedly" error message the first time you quit the application, but should only happen the one time.
On a side note, the print spool is slow when printing very large multi-paged PDFs.
This is a fix I found in 2009 by Dennis, can't remember where though.

  • Why can't Quicktime X  read multipage pdf files in Safari 5.1?

All I get is the first page of the pdf file
    Software is up to date
There seems to be more downs to Lion than there is ups. Do I have to switch to Chrome?

No problems here. What pdfs are failing?
Do you have the Acrobat web plug-in installed?

  • Upload iCloud file from Safari (iPad)

Hello Community. Like many people, I consider iCloud as a great initiative from Apple but I am desperate to see that it's impossible to select an iCloud file from Safari (iPad) and to post this file on a website. Does nobody have to upload a CV, a PDF or an Excel sheet on the Net from his iPad from example? At the moment, you can only select a picture or take a picture! This is not serious. Thanks for your replies.

    Hey Flightmood,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you want to access content in iCloud from the iOS device. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
iCloud Drive FAQ - Apple Support
You can access your files in iCloud Drive any of these ways:
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8, you can access your files from Apple apps like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, or any apps that support iCloud Drive.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a good one,

  • Opening MIDI files

    Hi everyone!
I'm having trouble reading a simple midi file and displaying the midi file as integers. My problem is I'm using a string buffer and readLine and then converting each individual spot in the string to an integer and i'm finding that some information is lost in the conversion into string and then into integer , i think because it is stored in hex.
Does any one know of any links with source code I could learn from or have any suggestions on reading a midi file and displaying the bytes as integers into a displayPanel?
    Thank you for your time,
    cloudtwist
PS.I think my troubles could also be answered if i could just read the bytes straight from the file into an integer array but I can;t get that to work either. Thank you again.

MIDI files are binary files, so you cannot read them with any of the Reader classes. A MIDI file does not contain lines of text so it does not make sense to use readLine().
You should use one of the Stream classes (FileInputStream for example) to read bytes from the file.

  • Safari and downloading standard MIDI files

Downloading a standard MIDI file by the CONTROL>download method results in file that my MIDI sequencer cannot/doesn't open. Using another browser gives me a file that DOES open in my sequencer. Why can't I use Safari to download a standard MIDI file properly? It seems that the file type is changed in some way. Thanks for any and all coaching.

Select one of them, "Get Info" about it and select
the app you want to use to open your MIDI files (i.e.
QuickTime, GB etc.) and click on the button "Change
    All".
    cheers

How can I download and read a SWF file on IPad 2? The message returned is that Safari cannot download that file

SWF files are flash files, which are not supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/
If you want to play the file then the iSwifter or Skyfire browser apps might work (they don't work on all flash sites) but you won't be able to download it

Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore.  It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version.  Please help?  I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Copy the text below, including the initial /
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Switch to Finder, then use the Go menu - Go to Folder command & paste in the text, clicking Go afterwards.
A Finder window should open, showing various plug-in files. Trash any that are for Adobe or PDF. You'll be asked for an admin name & password.

    Hi snoreaustralia,
It sounds like you just need to associate the PDF filename extension with Acrobat, rather than Preview. Please see this document from the Microsoft Help for instructions on choosing the default program for opening a particular file type (in your case, PDF): Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help
