Impossible to restore Ipod Touch - Unknown error 6

Hello,
I have the following problem. After installing of the Itunes 7.5., Itunes proposed to update my Ipod Touch also to the version 1.1.2. What i tried to do, but it was not installed completely. Ipod became blocked, there is an image on the screen all the time to connect Ipod to computer.
I tried many times to restore it. But it says "Unknown error 6"...
What should i do?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • Cant Restore Ipod Touch - Unknown Error 1604

Can someone please help. I went to connect my ipod touch to my itunes and it told me that the ipod needed restoring and updating. Updated it and clicked restore - tried to restore it and came up with the message "could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)." Any help would be appreciatd.

Ok, I've been trying to fix this for 3 DAYS!!! But, I finally found the answer an hour ago and my Touch is sitting next to me happily syncing away. Rather than let someone else go through the pain I've been experiencing I thought I'd share how I fixed this.
After trying all the various suggestions (re-installing, another PC etc.), this is what I did:
When you get the 1604 error click 'ok' but keep your iPod plugged in
Go to 'Task Manager' and find the 'iTunes' process
Click 'End Process' which will terminate iTunes
    (Remember, don't unplug your iPod!!)
    Start up iTunes again
iTunes will then recognise the iPod
Click 'Restore' and you should be ok
Some of the other suggestions might also work for you but just thought I'd give you another option.
Good luck, I know how frustrasting this is!!

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

    Hi msclaude,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  I'm not sure from your post what steps you have tried, but it sounds like you may need to use recovery mode to address the issue with your unresponsive iPod touch.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
You can put your iOS device into recovery mode, then restore it using iTunes.
    Use recovery mode
You might need to use recovery mode to restore your device in these cases:
iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's in recovery mode.
You see the Apple logo onscreen for several minutes with no progress bar.
You see the Connect to iTunes screen.
Learn what to do if you see the progress bar onscreen for several minutes.
To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup.Get more help
Learn what to do if you don't see your device in iTunes for OS X, or in iTunes for Windows.
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Trouble syncing iPod touch - unknown error (-50)

I'm trying to sync my iPod touch and getting an unknown error (-50). I've tried restarting iTunes, restarting my computer, and restarting the iPod. None of that is working. It was working earlier today, so I'm not sure what happened. I installed some new applications earlier in the day, which are working fine. I was trying to install some photos on the iPod when I first started getting the error.
Any idea what the error is or how I can fix it?
    Thanks!

I have plenty of space - both on iPod Touch & my Mac.
One think i have noticed is iTunes will not let me select specific photo albums to include on the iPod. Basically it isn't importing photos. I did recently upgrade to iLife '09
The good news is that it does seem to be syncing in the background even when the warning sign appears - I click OK and it has synced in my absence as opposed to waiting till I click OK then is starts syncing - very annoying.

Have not updated OS in iPod touch. Currently have OS 2.2.1. When trying to update to iOS 4.2, I get an error message "Joe's iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured [-1]." Please help...

That often indicates a hardware problem with the iPod, but it can also be caused by security software blocking access to the update. Try this article and see if that helps:

If not, then your iPod may be defective and will need replacement. Apple still offers replacement pricing for old iPods, but it might be more cost-effective to put the money toward a new iPod touch. You'd pay a minimum of $99 US for a replacement, but you can get a refurbished 8GB 2010 model for $149 US.

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (6)

I know this type of error has been posted before but I've tried everything I've read in other posts and have not gotten anywhere.
When I try to restore my Ipod Touch, after it is into the restore for a while, I get the message:
+*The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (*6).+
    iPod Touch 1G
    Firmware 3.12
    What I've tried:
    - Rebooting host.
    - Resetting iPod Touch - Holding down home and power for 10 seconds
    - Using different computers with fresh versions of Itunes. Computers were running Vists, XP, and Windows 7.
    - Putting iPod touch into DFU mode (Hold down Home and power for 10 seconds then let go of power until iPod goes into DFU mode.
I always end up with The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).
I did get extended Apple care service but of course it ran out last month!
I did get a log from one of the failures if that would be of help.
    Any suggestions?
    Dave

Well my ipod is just out of warranty so I'm not sure if they will even look at it but I'll try tomorrow to bring it to the Apple store.

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error has occured [14]

What does this mean? I cant find anything when I go to DFU mode. None other, my mum wont let me call apple support. I need a dev on this one please.

I had similar problems after an upgrade to the firmware on my iPod Touch Gen1 crashed out, and then the attempted Restore threw an error "The ipod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred [1604]".
After much searching and trying in vain of various support articles I found http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275. I rebooted my PC and reconnected my iPod via a different USB port. Voila, the Restore magically worked and I am back with a functioning iPod Touch once again.
Shame on Apple (and Microsoft XP) for such a bad experience. Good luck to you.
