Impossible to set Security Mode in router configuration

Instantly reverts to "Disabled", at every selection of any option in list.
Upgraded firmware; no change.
WRT54G ver 5.

Thanks for the replies.
Returning the favor:
Through experimentation (read: hide and seek, or let's waste time for fun),
I found in another page elsewhere in the configuration interface,
a cuteness called "Secure Easy Setup", at bottom of list,
whose enablement was required to banish the symptom.
Certainly interface designers, in their civilian lives, use the same programs that everybody uses. You'd think that, forced to suffer this kind of illogic everywhere, as we all are,
they would unfoul their own nests.

  • 7921G Security mode showing encrypted not sure why?

    Hello Experts,
I am seeing the Secuity mode as Encrypted under system configuration of the 7921G phone.
I have done same configuration on the other phone and there I see the Security mode as NON-SECURE.
Config on both the ip phone: WLAN-Security mode- open under network profile..
Could someone please let me know why is it I am seeing as Encrypted security mode under system configuration?
    Thanks
    Fari

That is referring secure profiles in CUCM and not WLAN encryption.
    Compare the CUCM configs.
You will see one is set for a secure profile and the other for a non-secure profile.

  • DSL w/831 router configuration questions

    Hi all -
    - DSL service with 1 static IP address
    - DSL modem configured for "bridge mode"
    - 831 router
There are some things I don't understand about all this.
#1: In order to make all this work, I need to have the PPPoE stuff configured on the router, yes?
#2: Do I need to have the "interface Dialer1" configured? And if not, can I put the DSL login info in the "interface Ethernet1" section?
#3: Do I need to explicitly set up NAT? I want my internal clients to get IPs on the 10.10.10.0 network and they need to have full Internet access.
#4: I think I don't understand how the routing should be set up.
#5: Any other helpful hints, I'll gladly take!!

  • Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2

    Hi,
I have a Primary site (mixed mode) running SCCM 2007 SP1 for many months now with no issues.
This site is made up of two Win 2008 sp2 servers sharing the SCCM roles:-
SCCM01 - Site server, DP, RP, PXE and SQL2005 hosting the SCCM database
SCCM02 – SUP, MP, FSP, SLP
The SQL2005 on SCCM01 is running under a domain service account called
domain\service_sccm which is also a sysadmin in SQL as is the SCCM02 server.
In an effort to resolve the isse I have made this account a Domain Admin.
I have also used this account to log onto SEC01 to run the Secondary Site installation and to be the SQL Service account.
I'm now trying to add a Secondary Site on a Domain Controller called SEC01 (also Win2008 sp2) and on the same LAN as the SCCM01/02.
This is where I get problems.
I run the installation locally on the Sec Site server (DC) as a Domain Admin and the installation completes OK (all green ticks),
the ComponentSetup.log and Pre-Reqs are all good as well however when I check the ConfigMgrSetup.log I see the below -
Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2.

Adding the PMP role to SEC01 also fails to install and no MPSetup or MPControl logs are created.
WebDav and win2008 roles, features all added and server fully patched.
Despooler.log on SCCM01 seems good and passing keys.
Tried installing to default path and to shortened path such as C:\SCCM
The new secondary site is listed in the console and an address can be added for the Secondary Site
BITS Server Extensions and Remote Differential Compression Features are enabled.
The Group memberships all appear ok:-
    SCCM01
    Local Admins
contains the sec site server SEC01, SCCM01, installation accounts
    SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_001
    SEC01 (the sec site server)
    SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_001
    SCCM02
    SEC01
No Local Admins as a DC
    SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_002
    SCCM01
    SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_002
    empty
    SQL 2005
This has the account logged in during installation as a sysadmin
    SCCM02 is also sysadmin
The fundamental issue appears to be that the SEC01$ server account is not being added to SQL Logins (and therefore SCCM database Roles)
    therefore the installation cannot complete.
I have tried to manually add the SEC01 account to SQL Logins before installation of Sec Site but this did not work.
Not sure if the fact that SEC01 is a DC may be a factor.
Appreciate any help if anyone has seen this before or can suggest a resolution.
    Thanks

After a lot of digging around and head scratching I eventually found the resolution.
The original thread title Error turned out to be a bit of a red herring in that my failure to deploy Sec Sites came down to two separate issues seemingly unrelated to the error message of the thread title.
The first part of the resolution was to manually create the SQL Server accounts for the Sec Site Servers and assign them to the smsdbrole_MP DB role to
let the SQL side of the SCCM install complete a s these were not being created automatically.
This then left the fact that that the installation of the Sec Site completed successfully according to the install logs in C:\ however the DP and MP would
    never install.
The big clue was eventually contained in the mpfdm.log errors relating to
**ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox SMS_AMT_PROXY_COMPONENT on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
    and
**ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox Asset Intelligence KB Manager on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
Thankfully the errors led me to these two blogs:
    http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/scassells/archive/2009/07/20/error-cannot-find-path-for-destination-inbox-sms-amt-proxy-component-on-server-registry.aspx
    and
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/thread/5fcc53d4-8629-4b34-9eaa-6cb020eedc13/
As it turned out the SCCM installation registry and folder creation does not complete and I had to manually enter the reg settings as detailed in the
links above to complete the installation. Once I did as described everything worked a treat – all my MPs and DPs are 100% now.

  • Cant get Security Mode to work on WRT54G

I have everything set up fine.. internet working etc but I cannot get security mode to work.. I go to click on WEP, WPA.. whatever and it just autos back to DISABLED.. Anyone to fix this?

how many computers do you have?
try to use other computers in setting up the security. check also the firmware of your router.make sure you have the latest one.

  • Database control won't run in secure mode

I'm following the instructions displayed by the database configuration manager after creating a database. These instructions configure the database control to run in secure mode using https. I get an error with the following command run from the OS command line while in the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory:
    emctl.bat secure dbconsole -sysman_pwd password
I get the error message "Failed to create EM root key."
The emdctl.trc file has the following entry: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it."
The ORACLE_SID has already been set. The database control is down. The "emctl config emkey -repos" command completed successfully.
I'm using Oracle 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2003 server. I'm running this command on the database server. The database control was selected in the database configuration manager. This database control does run successfully in http mode, but I can't configure it for https.
Does anyone know why the target machine would actively refuse this connection?

Have you tried it without the -sysman_pwd flag ?

  • Basic Internet Routing Configuration Help -- Cisco 2811

    Hi everyone,
I want to start by saying that I brought a Cisco 2811 Router to use at home and to practice advanced networking with. So far, I believe I've configured everything as it should be, however, I am not getting any internet connection.
DHCP is set up and working properly, I can lease addresses without issue.
Both interfaces are configured, fe0/1 with a static IP, and fe0/0 as a DHCP client.
I have connected fe0/0 directly to the Cable modem and it acquires an IP without issue. Connecting my laptop directly into fe0/1 allows my laptop to lease an IP from the router's DHCP server. So I know everything up to there is working properly. I've set up NAT as best I can with what I know, but I am still not getting the router to provide internet access.
The following is my Router's Configuration. Does anything seem to be missing? I used Configuration Professional to set it up.

    Hi Again,
    I sent
    dhcp pool Network
    default-router 192.168.100.1
to the router and wrote it to config. I still didn't have internet access at first, so I followed John's tip and hooked up my machine to an old Catalyst 2849G switch I had laying around. The switch has no settings, just gets an ip from the router and does its own thing. After doing so, I do now have internet access. I'm using it to post this reply in fact.
Here are the results of ipconfig /all on my Ethernet NIC on my machine before even having the switch:

It seems everything was working as it should, but I didn't have internet access and windows still reported it as an unknown network.
After hooking up my Switch, Windows reported seeing 'Network' (From my router's host name, I presume?) and once I reset the modem, I had internet access.
This was a huge learning experience and I am glad to have help from all of you. Is there anything else I can to do optimize my configurations? Also, why didn't I have internet access when directed hooked up to FastEthernet0/1 even though my machine acquired IP's and DNS info?

  • Wlan security mode

i understood that the reason for unabling to find my home router is that its secured(not sure). im trying to switch between wep/802.1x/wpa/wpa2 but im losing my self in the subdefinitions. what set of definitions might work?

    petrib
I've read from my phones manual "to enable at least one security mode". When I open secutity settings for WLAN, WEP, WPA, VPN & IEEE802 appears. What security mode shall I use if I connect to a Hotspot that is in public places?

  • Security Mode option: "Capture (wlansec. wpapersharekey) WPA Personal" ?

Hi, I'm trying to support my father remotely and was reviewing his security setup over the phone, making sure everything was still okay. He has the wrt54g (I think v5 and I don't know the firmware version) - and in Wireless> Wireless Security> Security Mode he has "Capture(wlansec.wpapersharekey)WPA Personal" selected. When I set this up 6 months ago, I don't recall if I selected that and thought the docs were misprinted - or what.
I didn't bother to have my father tell me what the other choices were as I was perplexed and thought that since it says "WPA Personal" everything is normal (and since wireless connectivity works, it seems he is, in fact, using WPA). But is this setting normal? I cannnot find out any information about this setting in the docs, on this forum, google, etc. Even linksys phone support did not know. All documentation says to select "WPA Personal". Is this the same thing? Is what I'm seeing a setting in the older firmware maybe? Note - we have not upgraded firmware since the router was bought 6 months ago (lazyness).
    The client is a mac.
    Thanks
    Nancy C.

it is really normal for your router's interface to display that script of "Capture(wlansec.wpapersharekey)WPA Personal" when you are viewing that on a MAC computer.. but on the windows  (xp, 2k, ME, 98, 95, etc), it'll disaplay the normal script...

  • Essbase native security mode and MSAD users

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to solve following question:
I need to keep Essbase in native security mode, ie. to assign security for users directly in EAS, not in HSS console. And I need to grant access to MSAD users, ie. to allow users to connect to Essbase using their MSAD usernames and passwords.
    How to do that?
    Thanks!
    Vladino

You don't state what release you're on -- I think it varies slightly from release to release although the concept is mostly the same.
Have you read this in the EAS help?
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/eas_help/extauthen.html
I think this help is missing the step where you tell Essbase what the external authenticators are. From reading about the AUTHENTICATIONMODULE Essbase.cfg setting:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_tech_ref/authenticationmodule.html
    It seems that:
When you run Oracle's Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Configurator, Essbase is automatically registered with Shared Services (unless you select the option to deploy Essbase in standalone mode) and this setting is automatically added to essbase.cfg.So I'm not quite sure where that leaves you -- where do you config the external authentication? Hopefully someone more installation-centric than I (which would be just about everyone in the known universe) can jump in here. I have to say that I haven't used non-Shared Services authentication since System 9 came out -- it just makes life too easy for my clients to manage security in one place.

  • Cannot Security Enable BEFW11S4 Router

I was given a cable modem and a router (BEFW11S4 vers 4) when I moved, as I was going to get cable wireless internet in my new place.  I was able to set up the internet access with the cable modem and can set up wireless with the router as long as it's not security enabled.  I can name the network, but as soon as I try to WEP encrypt (64 bit), I get kicked off of the connection and when I try to reconnect, I get a message that the network requires settings not present on my computer.  I've had to reset the router about 4 times in 2 hours just to get wireless service in my apartment, but I would really like to have it secured.  I called customer support, but was told that since the warranty expired on the router I'd have to pay to have them help me, so I'd like to try to fix this on my own if I can.  I am currently able to send this because I am directly connected to my cable modem.  I've tried to use the CD that came with the router to configure the router to the PC, but when I get to the part where you have to connect the PC to the router, it says that the router can't be found, and to make sure it's on or reset it.  My computer uses Microsoft Vista operating system.  Does anyone know how to handle something like this, or where to find instructions on how to handle it?  Thanks

I think the first thing which you need to do is upgrade the firmware of your router. i think its a problem with the firmware of your Router. Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Once you re-configure all the settings on your Router then you can enable the security on your Router. I think this might solve the problem.

  • Can I set up a second router (extreme or express) with WEP while keeping 802B,G,N on the primary router (TC)

I have a wireless temperature controller which only uses WEP security. I have my TC configured for 802.11 B,G,N which disables WEP. Can I extend or create a new wireless network which uses WEP while maintaining my current network configuration?

    Yes, this is extremely easy..
Get a wireless router or AP.. anything cheap will usually be fine.. you don't need fancy. And if it is G or B wireless then a second hand is also fine.
For a wireless router you can bridge it, if that option is available.. usually not.
So you do a sneaky work around called wan bypass.
It is easier to give you actual situation.
    TC running standard IP 10.0.1.1
Set up the WEP router with IP, 10.0.1.254 (puts it outside the range of dhcp in the TC and will never be used).
    Turn off the dhcp server.
I do suggest you set a fixed wireless channel,, so it doesn't interfere with the TC.
    eg 1, for 2.4ghz.
Then plug LAN port of the router to the LAN port of the TC by ethernet.
Voila, you have a secondary AP and can set poor security on it.
    *** DANGER DANGER WILL ROBINSON***
You have just reduced the security of your whole network by creating a loophole.
I would strongly recommend turn it off when you finished playing on your Wii or whatever ancient device that uses WEP.
