Impossible to update to iOS 5

I have my iPad completely stucked after trying to upgrade to iOS 5 from 4.3.5. Upgrade failed with iTunes error 6, just after the upgrading firmware procedure. The iPad is gone in restore mode and iOS 5 is not installing. I already read all info on error 6 and got thru storing TCP params on Windows 7 x64. I also tried the restore from another PC running Win7 x86 and on a MacBookPro running Lion updated at last release: iTunes is giving always error 6 in the same moment on all platforms. ITunes is updated at the last available release. I tried also to restore after putting the iPad in DFU mode.
My iPad results completely blocked and is out of warranty, since I bought it 16 months ago. What can I do? Is it possible that I've lost it with a simple upgrade and cannot do anything?
Any help would be appreciated!

On MacRumors, really, I didn't find anything useful. There are a lot of guy having a ton of issues in upgrading to iOS5 on iPad1, it seems.
Many probably derive from "dirthy" PC, in fact many times it is solved changing PC or upgrading from a Mac. Unfortunately this is not my case, and also on Macs I have exactly the same issue (error 6). The funny thing is that, from Apple's docs and FAQ, all seems to be related to Windows wrong TCP settings, and from their point of view Macs should not be affected. So what has my iPad? An hardware issue arised on iOS5 upgrade? If so, my opinion is that it is defect from the birth, I think it's impossible to cause an hardware issue with an upgrade.
I hope to receive any useful hint for my problem.

  • Now that iOS 6 is here, how do I update to iOS 5?

I have an iPod Touch 4G (model MC540FD).
iOS 6 is now available from iTunes, but for pedagogical purposes, I don't want to update my iPod to iOS 6 for the moment.
I just want to update from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS 5.
So, I manually downloaded the .ipsw file from apple servers with iOS 5.1.1 for iPod Touch 4G and tried to manually update my iPod: I get the message "This device isn't eligible for the requested build." I tried also with the .ipsw for iOS 5.1, same problem happens.
    - I'm absolutely sure that I have an iPod Touch 4G
    - I'm absolutely sure that I have the right .ipsw for my iPod, named: iPod4,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore.ipsw
    - The iPod has never been unsimlocked or jailbroken
    - I have never used software that modify the host config of my Mac like TinyUmbrella and so on
    - I checked content of my /private/etc/hosts file and see no line refering to "gs.apple.com" that I could comment, as stated in various forum discussions about this problem (ex. http://docgadget.blogspot.ch/2012/05/how-to-fix-this-device-isnt-eligible.html)
    - I tried to put the iPod in DFU mode: the problem remains the same, same error message.
    - I tried with my own Mac (Macbook pro retina, 10.8.2, iTunes 10.7(21) and with an older MacBook white running Lion (10.7.4), iTunes 10.6.3(25): I have the same problem on both.
What can I do? I looked at a big number of discussions about that on the web without finding the solution, so if someone can help, it would be great!
I don't want to update automatically to iOS 6 as I need a machine with iOS 5 only!
    Thank you for helping!
    Gabriel

    Really?
    Wow, thank you Illaass!
    That's a bad news for me... :-(
Sounds a bit strange to me that it's impossible to manually update to the version I would like to... but so!
    Thanks again,
    Gabriel

  • Is it safe to update to iOS 5.1.1?

    Hi,
I have an iPad 2 (64GB WiFi) running 4.3.3 and an iPhone 4 (16GB) running 4.3.5 and would like to know if it is safe to update to iOS 5.1.1?
I've been doing some "Googling" and reading through this forum and what I found is not filling me with confidence... I know the much used "this is like a hospital and only sick people come here" answer, but boy there are lots of "sick people" around with iOS5 problems....
From my research I have found the following major problems:
Battery drain (will this ever go away???)
Problematic WiFi connections after update (worked fine before)
Safari crashes on sites with lots of pictures and video
Apps crashing more than they are actually working (all worked fine before update)
Unresponsiveness of device (as if it is not quite capable of running iOS5)
    SIM card read errors (iPhone)
Bluetooth no longer connecting to factory fitted bluetooth car systems (iPhone)
My only previous update is experience is with a 3rd generation iPod Touch which after the update to iOS4 (which broke the video app) and then iOS5 (which at least fixed the video app) is only good for playing music. It so laggy that doing anything else with it is basically impossible.
The iPad 2 & iPhone 4 were designed for iOS4 and not iOS5. Are the iPad 2 & iPhone 4 processors up to the task of fully running iOS5 and specifically 5.1.1 without any glitches and lagging? I'd rather stay on the current version than having my user experience tanked by devices that it not quite capable of running the new version of iOS problem free. I am not one of those people that MUST have the latest version of iOS not matter what. My devices working reliably is much more imporatant that a flashy new iOS. I know Apple says that they are compatible, but they also said that iOS4 & iOS5 will run on a 3rd generation iPod Touch and it just does not....
Any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Jamie

Talking about iOS 4 to iOS 5 in general, I don't see why not to update. iMessage, iCloud and all the new features. There is nothing wrong with 5.1.1 and no serious bugs. Most people's issues here are not related to the OS they are running. Then there are the habitual whiners who create accounts just to tell us that battery life is awful, but they do that after every update. After a week, they all disappear. So update. I can almost guarantee you won't have any issues, and you get all iOS 5 features. You won't regret it. <<=== Base on this justification, let me tell you what i have encountered with you guarantee.
After 2 week of upgrade from iOS 5.1.1, this is what I have encountered.
    1) Replace my old SIM Card, as it was totally corrupted by iOS 5.1.1
    2) 2 weeks after new SIM Card replacement, [No SIM Card Installed] error emerged. Eventually, you are required to reboot your devices everytime just to ensure your iPhone is back to normal.
If the above, is not an issue; please proceed with his guarantee and upgrade.
If one person complaint No SIM Card Installed issue, you can Blame on bad LUCK. Yet there are alot of people started to post about it; tell me it is their BAD LUCK as well?? There is some definate condition where cause this error.
GOOD LUCK on upgrading to iOS 5.1.1, You NEED it.
As of now, i am just praying when iOS 6 came out; i have not choice to consider upgrade.

  • HT4623 why can't i use 3G since I updated to IOS 6?

Since I updated my phone to IOS 6, it will not let me use 3G. The only time I can hit the Internet is when I have wifi. When I leave the house and my phone disconnecs from the Internet, it wont let me use 3G. It keeps telling me that it cannon connect to the cellular data but I have unlimited text, talk, and data. Why wont it let me use 3G? It was fine until I updated it.

    Hi juliesa,
Apple frequently drops off support for older hardware models. Unfortunately, they dropped the 1st gen iPads from being updated to iOS 6. Often times the hardware isn't capable of taking full advantage of newer OS's. I'm not sure if this is the reason why they dropped the original iPad, but the 3rd and 4th gen iPads are quite a bit more powerful and I can only assume that when Apple designed iOS 6 they wanted to take full advantage of the new iPad processing power.
Some pieces of the hardware make it impossible for certain features in iOS 6 to work on older iPads. For example, the iPad 1 and 2 don't have the Audience chip in it which has the noise-cancellation circuit necessary for Siri to function correctly. Therefore Siri won't work on iPad 1 or 2.
The current version of iOS 6 will run on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5; the iPad 2, 3, and 4th generation iPad; and the fourth- and fifth-generation iPod touch.
I know its not the answer you wanted to hear, but I hope this brings light as to why your iPad won't update to iOS 6.

  • HT4623 Since I updated to ios my iphone now would not sync and so my music from my comp would nit transfer to my iphone, the prompt " download 10.6.3 " kept comin up but the certain app cannot be downloaded, anyone with the same problem? What did u do?

Since I used ios my iphone now would not sync. So the songs from my computer would not transfer to my iphone, I kept getting " download 10.6.3 version " but this app is impossible to download. Please help... Any suggestions.

You don't provide much info on which version of iOS you started with, what iOS you updated to and what version of iTunes is on your computer. Be nice to know also if you are using a Mac or a pc to sync.
But I'll make a guess that you have a Mac and it has an older version of OSX on it. I'll also guess that you updated to iOS 6.1.3 and now find that iTunes on your Mac will not recognize your iPhone.
iOS 6.1.3 requires iTunes 10.7 or later.
iTunes 10.7 and later ( iTunes 11.0.1 is the cur recent version of iTunes) requires Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or later. The latest version of OSX is 10.8.3.
If this is the case for you the only way you can sync with your computer is to upgrade your OSX to at least 10.6.8 and install iTunes 11.
Not all macs can update to OSX 10.6.8.

  • Download impossible new application on iOS 6.

Apple ask me to answer to 3 securities questions. When doîng it, it says that my session has expires and have to try again. How can i do? So impossible to download à new application even if it is a free one
If i cancel, download dońt start. I'm stuck

Many apps need to be updated to run well on iOS 6. I get a notice about an available update almost any day.
But I've not really noticed too many crashed since updating to iOS 6 so I suspect that you are experiencing some unusual behavior.
First thing to try is a reboot of your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the devise restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Impossible to Update and Restore iPod 5 touch

I have forgotten the passcode for my iPod touch 5 and it now says 'iPod is disabled'.  I have tried to restore it to factory settings but it seems impossible.  After I put the device in recovery mode and connect to my PC iTunes says 'iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes'.  I click on the Restore button and it says it has to update to ios 6.1.3 before it can restore.  It starts downloading the update but before the update finishes downloading (40 mins) the iPod comes out of recovery mode and iTunes says it cannot connect to device as it is locked with a passcode.  I then get stuck in an infinite loop.  I put the iPod back into recovery mode and goes though the same process but doesn't detect that it already has the download so it downloads it again (40 mins) and so on etc........
    What do I do?

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

  • Should I update iTunes if NOT updating to ios 7

I have an ipad 2, which is eligible for the ios 7 update.  However, after reading several posts here and some reviews from other visually impaired people like myself, I have decided not to download ios 7 unless I absolutely have to (there are apparent issues with font being too thin even with bold  selected and contrast issues-when are the idiots that design these things realize grey on white is a bad thing).  Do I need to update  iTunes if I'm not updating to ios 7?  Also, has anyone downloaded the updated iTunes yet?  The previous update had the same problems as ios 7 had regarding contrast issues with print.  I can still read large print as long as the contrast is good (like black on white or white on black).  Grey on white is almost impossible for me to read, no matter how big or thick the font is.  And inverting the contrast doesn't cut it-you have to keep toggling it off/on depending upon what you are doing!

This is a technical support forum.  The millons and millions of people who don't have problems do not come here.  You don't go to an emergency room when you're not sick or injured, do you?
Do whatever you want to do.  Again, the VAST majority of users have absolutely no problems.

iPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers? I downloaded old version of Numbers 2.0.1 from DVD but with both versions the 2.0.1 will not open.  So both versions are present but only the new version functions. I tried to drag the new version to the trash but the old version still runs error message and will not open. I did not try to restart with the new version in the trash.

  • Home Sharing is not working following update to iOS 5.1 and iTunes 10.6

    First, the problem:
I am not able to see any shared libraries  when using the Music and Video apps on my iPhone 4.
    Next, the specs:
iTunes 10.6 on MBP running Mac OS X 10.7.3
    iPhone 4 runinng iOS 5.1
Wi-Fi connections for both MBP and iPhone 4
Both connect to same network using same SSID with static IP addressing and UPnP enabled.
MBP connects using 5 GHz N-Only anntena.
iPhone 4 connects using 2.4 GHz NG-Mixed antenna. (Hopefully next iteration of iPhone supports 5 GHz.)
    Third, what I have tried:
Everything in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing" (KB Article TS2972 - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972).
Re-entering my Apple ID credentials for both Music and Movies in iOS Settings.
Re-entering my Apple ID credentials for Home Sharing in iTunes.
Setting up Port Forwarding for both the iPhone 4 and MBP in my router for the relevant TCP and UDP ports (just in case). However, this did not help.
    Finally, what I have noticed:
My Remote app on the iPhone 4 works without issue and can control iTunes running on my MBP.
My Air Mouse app on the iPhone 4 works without issue and can control my MBP.
My wireless printer connected to the network via the 2.4 GHz antenna (it only supports 802.11g) is usable - I can print to it and access its embedded web server management tool.
So, in the end, Home Sharing no longer works on my iPhone 4 after updating both IOS and iTunes (all other apps and software updates are current for both the phone and the MBP). I believe I have ruled out any issues with which antenna is being used for which device. I am out of ideas on how to get Home Sharing to work again.
Any suggestions or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you gurus in advance!

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department.  Her suggestions:  change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers.  So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue.  It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more.  Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department.  Make them aware of this problem!

My new iPad sound not working after updating to ios 6.1. Headphones are working fine. I tried all the troubleshoot. can anyone know the answer, plz share with me

    Hi,
I have exactly the same issue as everyone above. I only get sound through the slider on the ringtone in settings and through my headphones. I do not get any sound anywhere else at all.
    I Have tried:
    - Updating to iOS 6.1.3
    -re starting the device
-checking that the device is not muted. My slider switch is set to mute rather than lock and is unmuted.
-going into general settings and reset all settings
-the device reset several times (waiting until I saw the all important apple logo)
-removing the last few apps I installed.
Nothing at all has worked, please help!

  • "No sim installed" error after updating to iOS 5.1

A notification popped up this morning asking me to update to iOS 5.1 so I updated it. Once I downloaded and installed it, it said "no sim installed". I have rebooted my phone, taken out and put back in the sim but the error message remains. I can't make calls or message, but my internet works. Anything else I can try?

i have the same problem with the 4s.  I have a (cutdown) sim from virgin (in the UK), who do not offer the iphone, but it worked perfectly until this upgrade (to ios 5.1).  The phone was bought unlocked from apple.  now i have the no sim error.  I am trying a restore and have booked a genius bar appt for later today.  I have a very expensive touch at present.  The sim is working fine in my old nokia, so it is not the sim that is faulty.  What is going on here, why would i want to upgrade if this just creates problems.  I have been up since 5am now trying to sort this so i have a phone again.
