Impossible to update to iTunes 10.4.1 on Win XP SP3

I have been waiting a month for Apple to fix this problem, and I see that lots of people had the same problem.
Does anybody know some tip to get through this? I'm completely stuck since Apple Customer Service told me to uninstall the old version and now I can't use my iPhone on my PC...
Any feedback would be welcome.
Thank you very much in advance.

I have eventually managed to resolve my issue by:
1) Installing "Segoe UI" fonts in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.
2) Changing my default colour profile to "sRGB Color Space Profile".
Navigate to My Computer > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Color Management.
Click Add button and select sRGB Color Space Profile.icm from the Add Profile Association pop-up window.
Select sRGB Color Space Profile.
Click on the Set as Default button.
Click on Apply, OK, OK.

  • ITunes 10 not compatible with Win XP SP3?

My wife's Dell is running Win XP (32 bit) with SP3, has most of the recent Microsoft security updates, MS Office 2007, and the 2011 version of McAfee. It is rather "plain vanilla" in its configuration, so I don't expect any conflicts with the Win version of iTunes.
With iTunes 9.2.1.5, her computer & iTunes work fine. I thought I'd try the suggested upgrade to iTunes 10.4.1. It downloaded and installed OK. However, upon the next reboot of the computer, ended up at the black screen and could only restart in safe mode. Repeated restarts, only could get to safe mode though.
I restored her computer from a disk image, and it ran fine until I tried to upgrade to iTunes 10.4.1 again ... same thing, can only boot to safe mode. I repeated this process a couple more times with different versions of her system's disk images, all run iTunes 9.2.1.5 OK, but crash with an iTunes 10.4.1 install. I also tried this with and without running Norton Win Dr. & Disk Dr. (not running Norton antivirus, rather McAfee) to clean up the registry and system files, but same results.
Is iTunes 10.x.x only for Vista or Win OS 7? Is there some known Microsoft update or setting that conflicts with iTunes 10.x.x? Does iTunes 10.x.x not play nice with McAfee or any of its security features? Is there some level of Windows security settings that could cause this?
I'm OK with iTunes 9.2.1.5 for now, but don't want the next Apple device that requires a newer iTunes version to break her computer. We wish to stay at Win XP SP3 as both our work computers use XP and our same current level of program revisions, so we don't want new issues (plus time & cost) going to Win 7 just for the sake of iTunes 10.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
PS: I personally use a MacPro at home, but that is not a current option for my wife (just saying this in advance for those who's fix will be to "get a Mac" :-)

Why not update your OS to 10.6?

Hi. I get the following message when trying to update or install an application: "impossible to connect to iTunes store". Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Why i'm unable to update App with different Apple ID? (it gives me an error: Impossible to connect to iTunes Store)

    Hello,
i installed a lot of Apps on my iPad (both free and purchased), then a sad day  i had to change my apple ID (due to some mistakes in configuring the ipad for my wife with a different apple ID and for icloud...).
Now i have apps with my last apple ID account and apps with my previous one.
When i have to update Apps with my last apple ID, there's no problem, but when i try to update Apps installed with the OLD one a problem occurs and even if i type the right password for it i get always the same message: Impossible to connect to iTunes Store!
Password for old apple ID is correct because i can log on line at account page on https://appleid.apple.com/it/
I read everywhere that having Apps with different account on the same Ipad is allowed, so....What's the Problem??
    thank you in advance.
    Bye

    Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with another Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.

This happens when you both use the same Apple ID for iMessage.  To fix this you have two choices:
On one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Note: you can still share the same ID for purchasing in Settings>iTunes & App Stores; or
On both phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at".  Also uncheck the other phone's phone number, if present.

I'm afraid I can't make any sense of this. the iTunes Store page lists 301 episodes from 12 January 2010 to 17 June 2010. If you click on the 'subscribe free' button your iTunes application subscribes to the feed at the URL you give, which contains rather fewer episodes from 17 September 2010 to 22 October 2010 (today).
It's not unknown for something in the feed to be OK with the application but not the Store, but the feed validates in FeedValidator and I can't see anything wrong with it - it's almost impossible to read as it's all on one line, but it doesn't seem to contain any of the usual culprits.
The only explanation which would make any sense (and which doesn't seem to be the case) would be if the feed had been complete only to 17 June until a few days ago, and you only recently replaced it with the current set of episodes: it normally takes 1-2 days for changes to appear (so even under normal circumstances today's episodes wouldn't appear yet in the Store, only on subscribing). Since your feed contains episodes back to September this doesn't seem to apply, but I can't see any other reason.

  • Data update via iTunes with 2 iphone.

    Hi there,
I would like to ask if there is 2 iphone available with only one PC in the house available for doing updates using itunes, does that means it's impossible to have difference data in both phone? as it's 2 difference person owning an iphone they can't be having all the same data in their phone, like music, photos etc..
I would like to know how can I solve this problem, can it be done if using 2 difference user acct in the same PC?
I hope someone can help, I'm sorry if my question sounds dumb as I'm not very knowledgeable in IT stuffs.
    Thanks u so much.

Yes, you can sync multiple iPhones to the same computer. You can:
    1) Sync to the same user account, selecting different playlists, etc., to sync - if using Outlook, this can become a problem to select different contacts/calendars for each device
    2) Sync to two different user accounts on the same computer. In that case, it's best to share the iTunes music library across those user accounts, as described here:

  • 3rd Generation I pod malfunctioned after restoring & updating with iTunes 7

After Updating to iTunes 7, itunes asked me to update my 3rd generation ipod's software. in order to do this i had 2 restore my ipod and so deleting everything on it. after having to re-install and re-configure my ipod in order to access it through iTunes it is now impossible to transer my songs back onto it. auto-syncing causes iTunes to freeze and then wipe my ipod. i attempted adding files slowly, just a few at a time but even this causes iTunes to crash eventually and so wipe my ipod again. im not sure whether the updating or my ipod is to blame for this problem. Any one else having similar difficulties or any advice?

    Hello everyone -
Please read the info in this post, which is extremely helpful if you (like me) need to revert back to iTunes 6.0.5. Your problem sounds quite similar to mine - I went back to what worked before. This will put you back to where you before this disaster called iTunes 7 happened:

  • After updating to iTunes 11, issues with multiple Apple IDs on one computer

My boyfriend and I both use the iMac, and both have Apple IDs. We are separate users on the iMac, and each logs in to his or her "side." Neither one of us had the slightest iTunes problem until we updated to iTunes 11. Now, I just discovered that the iMac is linked with his iTunes account for at least another 46 days, which means that I'm not allowed to download to the iMac purchases I made under my Apple ID on my phone.
Is there a way to fix this? It's ridiculous that one of us would be locked out for 90 days at a time when all we want to do is back up music we legally purchased.

Multiple users can "authorize" content on one computer, but in order to re-download content (including Match and stuff purchased on another device/computer), you have to "associate" the computer with that AppleID, and this can only be done for one AppleID per computer and can only change every 90 days.
This has always been the rule, but it's more obvious since iTunes 11, because all your previous purchases now appear as cloud content, and it's easy to screw things up by accident.
If you email the iTunes store, it's possible they will reset the counter and let you switch back to your AppleID (they did for me), but they will only do this once.
There's really no reason to "back up" stuff purchased from the store.  If you want to listen to it on the computer, you can do "transfer purchases" while syncing, so there are workarounds.  Still, it's unquestionably a stupid rule that punishes legitimate users and does nothing to stop illegal sharing.  I encourage you to write very nasty feedback about it.

I have an older ipod...ever since I updated the itunes software my ipod no longer works in my car.  my car is a 2013 mercedes E350.  Is there a way to go back to an older version of the itunes software?

If it's an older iPod, its software is not being updated by Apple.  So, I don't see how updating iTunes would make the iPod not work with the car's audio system, since iTunes just updates the song files (not how the iPod operates).
Does the iPod work by itself (play songs), when disconnected from the computer and iTunes?
