Impossible to view rented movies on several computers

I own an iMac and a Mac Mini. My iTunes library is shared between both computers (meaning both access it in read AND write through a shortcut). Both computers (and also a MacBook Pro) are authorized to read protected, purchased content on iTunes store.
I rented a movie on the iMac and planned to look at it on the Mac Mini, which is connected to my flat TV. So I quit iTunes on the iMac. I planned to look at the movie through Front Row but discovered purchased movies were unavailable through FrontRow. So I started iTunes on the Mac Mini and tried to launch the movie : "This move cannot be played on this computer as it has not been purchased on it". So purchase movies seem no to have the same behaviour than purchased music on iTunes store. I had to repurchase the movie on the Mac Mini to be able to watch it on my flat TV. Hand down to Apple on this one, except if I missed something...

Rented movies cannot be shared between computers. They can only exist on a single device at a time, and can only be moved from a computer to a player such as an iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. You cannot move a rental from one computer to another.
And yes, actually they do say that, in the Rentals FAQ, among other places.

As long as they're from the iTunes Store and have completed downloading to your iPad, yes. Once completely downloaded, a network connection should no longer be needed.

  • I cannot view rented movies (purchased through itunes) on my iPad2 in-flight

I cannot view rented movies (purchased through itunes) with the Video app on my iPad2 while flying. On a hunch, I purchased in-flight wifi and only then could I watch my rentals. What gives? Any suggestions on how to avoid paying for in-flight wifi is appreciated.

I don't think that he waited a day.  From the wording, I concluded that he waited only minutes (during take-off).
I recall seeing this issue before.  Apparently there is an issue related to copyright protection with some movies.  I stopped flying when I retired so I didn't pay too much attention to the problem.  Perhaps a search of the forum will shed more light.

  • Viewing rented movies on Apple TV

I have rented movies in my itunes but I cannot view them on the atv. I don't even see them on atv. Only the bought movies show up. Please help before i run out of days! Thank you.

you have to physically move the rented movie to the appletv, it is not the same process as streaming or syncing existing itunes content.
in itunes in the movies section, you should see the rented movie in a specific rental section, you then move it to the appletv.

  • Have iPod Touch and want to view rented movies from iTunes on our TV

We have an iPod Touch. I rented movies from iTunes. We would like to connect the iPod to the television so the whole family can watch at the same time. We did a little research and was told to buy a "Eforcity Premium Retractable Apple iPod AV Composite Cable, White [Compatible with: iPod with Color Display / including iPod Photo / iPod Video (including U2 Special Editions of iPod Photo &Video)]" which we did. In our research it said in the instructions it said to access the "TV Out Video Setting". My husband can't find it and hence is unable to get it to work. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.

I don't think that cable is compatible with the iPhone or the iPod touch. I know the old Apple AV cable wont work with the iPod touch, you need either a Apple Composite AV Cable or an Apple Component AV Cable. See here for more info http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1454?locale=en_US.

  • HT1657 My download speed is 35Mb/sec but from iTunes i only get 100-200 kb/sec. Normally it works perfect, but today my small SD rented movie takes several hours. Why?

Rented Ronal the Barbarian 1 hour ago and it take ages to download. My internett speed is more than 35Mb down and up. The download speed from Itunes is about 150kb/sec. This has never happened before. Can anyone tell me if this is a local problem on my side or if itunes are not able to deliver?

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Rented Movies Not Authorized

All of a sudden I seem to have a problem viewing rented movies on my Appletv. Rented a movie on my G5 and synced it to Appletv. Went to play it at after a long time with the Spinning Gear got a message that " Not Authorized to Play This" on Apple TV. After a lot of playing tried to rent a movie directly with Appletv and now cannot do this either, just get the spinning gear. I can see the movies at the iTunes Store just not rent them. I can rent and view them on all my computers. Not sure what has changed any ideas where to look? Everything is current.

i was having flaky performance from my appleTV early on... i did a restore to factory setting then upgrade just to start from scratch and i stopped unplugging it to restart it and only use the restart from the menu... and my appleTV has been rock solid ever since. maybe it's just coincidence, but i firmly believe that yanking the cord out of the appleTV is just bad news... appleTV is basically a stripped down mac and you wouldn't yank the cord out of your computer a few times a week.. things would get corrupted like crazy.
if you are having lots of problems i'd advise you to do the same.. factory restore and stop yanking the cord to restart and only use the menu to restart instead.

  • HT1657 do you need internet to watch a rented movie from itunes

Do you need internet to watch a rented movie from itunes?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
From my own personal experience, I have found that when I turn off the Wi-Fi on my Wi-Fi only iPad, I am still able to play rented movies on it. I have tried this perhaps four or five times and in each case, this has been the result. I have also noted that other users have had the same experience as I.
However saying that I have noted a small number of users that have stated they are unable to view rented movies without an Internet connection. This knowledge base article from Apple, also suggests that an Internet connection is required.

Yes, at least since late afternoon EST.
Check this site for the status of Apple Services when you need to in the future. (But right now it seems that site is down as well.)
