Impressive presentation of hierarchy

Hello,
I need to present BW hierarchy in a very impressive way as the hierarchy is the key component of the report. It should a well structured report with distinct hierachy nodes
Is it possible to replace standard hierarchy symbols -> with custom ones?
What are the other option?
Looks like Visual Composer doesnt have any advanced features to present hierarchy (only workaround)

For Web Reporting :
The hierarchy symbols can be found in the MIME repository - execute the Web report and do a view source and you can find the Hierarchy symbols link... but this would make it global and affect all reports which use the hierarchy symbols...

Problem in hierarchy input

Dear All,
I have a hierarchy on cost element infoobject...
I am using this in a report and have restricted costelement with hierarchy variable..But when i execute report while giving input for cost element it shows hierarchy and cost elements which are not present in hierarchy in not assigned node.
What i want is when user input cost element it should show only hierarchy nodes , it should mot show not assigned node in input selection.
Pls advise.

Actually the problem is ...
I have given hierarchy name but when i execute report and select cost element(GL account) from hierarchy ..
I can see two parents nodes there ,one is for hierarchy node and other is not assigned node in which there are cost elements (GLs) which are not assigned in hierarchy so there are coming under not assigned...
What i want is when i click to select cost element in input parameter screen it should show only my hierarchy node and not not assigned node...

Error when Values of Hierarchy Characteristics are put in selection screen

Hi Experts,
I am using SAP Netweaver 2004s.
I am trying to execute a query with a Hierarchy Characteristic in the BEx Web. In the Variable selection screen, if I give a value of the characteristic as input, the query on execution displays 'No Data Found'. But If I execute the query with the same selections (enter a value of the hierarchy characteristic in the selections) in BEx Analyzer (Excel), the query executes for that value of characteristic with data.
Also, If I execute the query with a node of the hierarchy characteristic (instead of the value within this node), I get data for all values within this node along with that value for which in the first case it showed no data.
Could you help me figure out how to go about finding a solution for this issue?

Hi Abhijeet,
This error occurs for all values (that are present within hierarchy nodes).
Also, I have tried using both F4 and entering the value directly. There is no difference in the error.
The type of the variable shouldn't be the issue since the same entries work fine in BEx (Excel) Analyzer.
I think there has to be some kind of setting somewhere for BEx Web Analyzer that can have hierarchy related displays.

[solved] Presentation with movies

Hi guys,
in the next weeks I will have to prepare a presentation which will have regular slides but also movies as part of the slides.
I've been trying to add movies to OpenOffice Impress, I managed to install the Java Media Framework but I couldn't install jffmpeg on it as it seems not supported under x86_64..
So, the only thing I've been able to add on an OpenOffice Impress presentation is an MPEG1 video file whose I only ear the sound.. video doesn't display.
It really looks that Impress support for videos is poor.
So, what do you guys suggest? Do you know of other ways of adding videos to OpenOffice Impress?
Other alternative ways of doing that?

It turned out that Okular does supports movies in a PDF presentation made with Latex beamer. Great!
Example code for a slide with a movie:

\end{center}
The file "4copter_freeimu.avi" have to be in the same folder of the resulting PDF file.

Max limit for Hierarchy

Hi,
The client has varying levels of people reporting levels.Some go down just three levels, others go down 14 levels.
What is robust way to model and store that hierarchy and present its hierarchy values in OBI.
Is 11 the max limit for Hierarchy?

AFAIK, I dont think there is any thing limiting about OBIEE in terms of max. levels within a hierarchy other than the limits set by your data source (oracle has 1000 column limit AFAIK in a table).

Two Hierarchy issue

Hi,
we have material hierarchy(026), which is loaded from R/3 daily. We have created copy this hierarchy(z26) and changed some nodes for reporting purpose only. Both hierarchy are active. we are using BW 3.5.
Now when new node is created in basic hierarchy (026), modified version is present under hierarchy tab and we activate the same. new nodes get correctly assigned.
But for Z26 hierarchy, these nodes are not present. it looks like only way is to drop Z26 and create new copy of 026 hier.
is there any other solution? we need new hier, as few nodes are to be display differently.

Hi Gaurave,
If you delete the z26 hierarchy and copy again 026 to z26, you will loose your modified data from z26 and then you need to redo the whole changes again. Which seems to be not a good practice always. Download the hier into flat files and check which are the new added/changes in the 026 hierarchy and then you maintain the same in z26 hier. Either you can write some fox program to compare the job or can check in excel.

How to -not- compress images on import?

Hi all,
Sorry if this has come up a gazillion times before, but I cannot seem to figure it out.
I want to create a simple PDF containing some images and two videos for laptop/beamer presentation.
Whatever setup I do with the Distiller presets regarding importing images, Acrobat always compresses the imported images, leaving them less than crisp.
I just want them (JPG's) imported and shown -as is-.
Is this impossible in Acrobat, or am I missing a very obvious setting somewhere deep in the Distiller options?

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear(er).
If I create a PDF with Acrobat, it will -always- compress the images.
After reading up on the manual, it seemed the Distiller settings are responsible on how Acrobat behaves with importing images.
I created profiles with Distiller to not compress anything, and choose that as printersetting for a new PDF.
It still compresses my images, it's annoying!!!!
My workaround for now is to create a OO Impress Presentation, export that to a PDF, open that PDF in Acrobat, add my videos (as Impress can't) and save that to a new PDF. This works as I want it to work (no compression on my images).
I hope this helps explaining it a bit more, and thanks for any insights.

Newbie to keynote; some questions and some observations about this group

Hello, my attn was called to this group. I have seen some impressive presentations in keynote so maybe it is time to switch.
From what?
I do a lot of presentations. I use acrobat. Prepare my page in whatever app is best for the job; print to pdf; include fonts. By using the app of my choice I get just what I want in my slide.
I can readily arrange slides in sorter in acrobat. Allows minimal animation, by, say, preparing the full slide, make copies, and delete progressively. sort to show from the least to the fullest; works for me.
pdf allows touch up text and adding text, which I often think of at the last minute. Drawing an oval or line to point to something. For heavier editing open a slide in illustrator and save as pdf.
So, as I say it works for me. Not glitzy. Certainly pretty easy to produce decent slides.
Most everyone has acrobat on his/her machine, so if I take my presentation on a stick, it can work, nicely, cross platform. Very few occasions when that didnt work.
So I would like to hear folks' experiences. Can you take your presentation on a stick and show it on someone else's computer?
What about posting presentations. I generally put my pdf on my web page, giving the audience the url; seeems to work fine. Again I ask for experience.
Seems like quite a learning curve for keynote. And I browsed about 4 pages of discussion on this board before posting. I saw mostly complaints and problems, and not all that many solutions. And very few raves.
So, I would welcome some testimonials.
PS I dont want to do anything so glitzy that folks will come up to me after the talk and say nice animations; better they talk to me about the substance of my talk.

Welcome to the forums, troglodyte.
If you want a testimonial, I think that Keynote is hands-down the easiest to use presentation tool, and produces by far the best-looking results. It is far ahead of PowerPoint.
Keynote produced beautiful results, even when converted to PDF, as it has very nice graphics features (e.g., drop shadows, masking, transparency). If you are most comfortable with PDF, and don't need animations or transitions, then Keynote still has a lot to offer. That said, much of the "wow-factor" of Keynote comes from its lovely and sophisticated transitions and animations.
(These features needn't be just eye-candy, either, as they can serve to emphasize points and help unify certain material. For example, I use transitions that are more obvious, such as the "Doorway", to mark major changes of topic in my presentations, and more subtle ones, like "Dissolve", to change between related slides. This "grammar" of transitions helps to make the presentation more comprehensible.)
Keynote is not cross-platform, so you can't put a native Keynote presentation on a memory stick and be assured that it will work on someone else's computer. However, PDFs make from Keynote should function just fine. Alternatively, you can use various of the other exporting options in Kenote, including Quicktime, Flash, and PowerPoint, to provide more cross-platform compatibility than Keynote does (each of these conversions has its own limitations however). And several of these formats are also appropriate for web deployment.
I find Keynote extremely easy to use. Do realize that these forums are primarily intended for troubleshooting, so you won't find a lot of generic compliments to the application.

New Pavilion 23 monitor flashes and entire machine occasionally locks up

While working in any app, the machine will flash black twice, then come right back to where I was. Also locks up at times.
First experience with HP, with TouchScreen and with Windows 8. Not impressed presently. What is wrong with my computer?

I have my suspicions as to what is causing your issues with your computer and am going to suggest a backup and recovery of your computer. As this will eliminate any software as the issue whether it is the a virus, settings or a bad driver. To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.

AT&T Communications Manager reinstall problem

I'm running a MacBook Air with OS X 10.8.1. I bought an AT&T USBConnect Force 4G, and the AT&T Communications Manager software installed correctly when the device was connected. After installation Communications Manager wanted to update and I let it, and the update failed. So, I tried to uninstall Communications Manager by dragging it to the trashcan (I'm fairly new to the Mac community and, silly me, trusted AT&T to write a proper Mac program to uninstall this way!) As it turns out, AT&T says one must use the Communication Manager uninstaller or files will be left behind. Ok, Ok, I didn't read that instruction and I screwed up. I get that.
Problem is, I cannot reinstall the AT&T Communications Manager software. When I try to reinstall, the program says it can't install because there's a newer version of the Communications Manager already present. I cannot find the files I need to delete--as I said, I'm a fairly recent convert to Mac, and I don't really know how to navigate around in the OS X file system very well. I tried Time Machine but that didn't work.
Please advise as to how I would locate the files I need to delete...

Well, my experience with T-mobile and Verizon WWAN installers finds that they splatter stuff all over the system including kernel device drivers. Sounds like at&t is no different. Simply dragging the visual application icon to the trash never completely uninstalls this crud.
I use a Mac application called Pacifist developed by CharlesSoft dot com. It is $20 shareware that also has a countdown try button. It installs in /Applications and launches as a graphical tool. Drag the original at&t installer onto Pacifist and it will then present a hierarchy of the installation file names and locations. Once you have this detective information, you can surgically remove the indicated files from your system.
Your are new to the Mac community. Are you new to the UNIX terminal command line? If yes, then you should allow someone else more experienced with the terminal interface to follow the above approach, because one wrong move with terminal file removal and you could find yourself re-installing OS X. Also, if TimeMachine has been backing up your entire system, you have this undesireable installation in your back-ups. A wrong restore could re-create your problems.

I am a life long Apple user- II, Lisa, Mac Plus, SE, SEII, CI, FX, Quadras, G3, G4, G5, Mac Pros, Final Cuts, Logics, Apertures, iworks, etc... by the dozen!!! Have battled the PC crowd for decades and have defended, served and waved the Apple banner to near fist fights with battles at the local Compusa stores back in the day!!! My kids are all Mac heads with Francisco (6) sporting a 13" MB and his very own Ipad. My 13 year old waited in the first iphone line to equip the whole family (5) with iphones!!! We have then subsequently upgraded to every generation you have released including the 4. We also have a little experience wih smart phones- the first Treo, first RIM email device, Palm, Kyocera, BB, etc!!!!! Needless to say we are committed!!!
But that being said, I have walked around my sphere of influence for the past 3+ years stating that "the iphone is the worst phone on the planet"!!!! The best media device on the planet but the worst "PHONE" I had ever used. I live in Coral Gables, Fl where towers are plentiful but still do understand that my home is located on the fringe of my cell towers. I cannot make a call from my house... but the truth is that almost every call has an issue of one kind or another with 80% of my calls dropping in the greater Miami area as well as several major cities. It has been a joke amongst my friends with one always prodding me that when will I get a real phone??? So, it got so bad that I had to turn my back on the luscious Mac like OS, mobileme and plug and play operability with my macs and bought a Bold. Guess what happen with the Bold??? I was able to make calls from my home and by some miracle calls cease to drop. After 30 days I went back to Iphone ****!! Why? because I am the Ultimate Fanboy & the ability to show my reels on the iphone along with mail, apps, & ipod ultimately won out to making calls.
So, cut-to we buy the 4's in the hopes (same hope that I had from generation to next generation) that this issue would be resolved and much to our disappointment the nightmare continues!!!! I have found myself nearly throwing my phone (which I hold like a girl, finger tips only) at the concrete floor because of the dropped calls. Your impressive presentation today was filled with all kinds of impressive test and comparisons defending your position. While not scientific or recorded in my 100 million dollar lab, my experience is REAL and I am not part of a conspiracy!!! I have over $25K invested in Iphones and the ATT service that goes along with it. I am not happy and your response was less than forthright in my opinion. In fact, it came off arrogant and almost as if I was listening to Bill Gates

01. While I was on a commercial shoot my son made the line with my assistants brother and purchased 5 phones!!! The first generation phones did not require (was not even offered) in-store activation. If you "Wankerkirby" had owned a gen 1 you would know that!!!
02. Definitely says allot about me!!! Blindly Committed to Apple and it's products. The very same reason the Mac Plus was a revolutionary machine with a revolutionary OS is the same reason the iphone is a revolution. Simply because of the OS I have put up with the poor phone performance. The sum of all the parts has out weighed living on a Korean, Japanesse or PC based operating system.
03. Miami being a major city has plenty of cell sites but it just so happens I live right on the edge of my particular area (island on ocean). My service *****!!!! Therefore, I gave Apple an xtra pass because I was blaming ATT. No longer after the Bold Test.
04. your opinion!!! Again, I put up with it because of reason #2.
05. Yes Bro!!!! $500 X months since Gen 1 = $25K.... but I have finally woken up and have audited my stupidity in putting up with it!!! Apple should deliver on every aspect of their product's performance as well as their partner's performance. It should at least have acceptable phone performance and not suck compared to a "Free" Motorola, LG or Samsung. Recalls, Class action suits, Mass refunds and any other costly campaign is exactly what Apple needs to do!!! I bought the 4 because of the Stainless band!!! I don't want an f-ing bumper!!!!
FINAL- Its is now my opinion that they have always known and have played the odds that no one would complain or that it was an acceptable cost to deal with the % of consumers that would complain. Yes, after the 4th generation and my blind faith that Apple would deliver like they had in the past.. I am now really ******!!!!

Keynote & Quicktime Pro?

Hey,
I was looking at Quicktime to download the 7.0.3 version and noticed Quicktime Pro and read through some stuff.
I noticed this;
Keynote Delivery
Export your Keynote presentations to QuickTime and play them on Macs or Windows PCs. Go Pro for a truly impressive presentation in full-screen mode.
So can anyone expand on this for me with some explanations or links to tutorials?

Once you've created your Keynote presentation, all you have to do is choose the File menu's Export command. The first option is Quicktime, and you can set several different parameters on how to save your Keynote as a QT movie. You can set it to be interactive (where clicking the mouse acts like it does when using Keynote), or you can set each slide for a certain time limit, and all transitions to certain time limits. I'm not quite sure if you need QT Pro or not to get all of this interactivity since I've always had Pro since version 5. I don't think you do though.
I've used this exporting to post my lectures on our school site so that my students can watch my Keynotes on their PCs without any problem so far this year. It's a handy way to share these files, and has worked flawlessly (unlike the PPT exports, which looked clunky since some of the transitions/effects aren't available in PPT).

Use the Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Java menu
Click the Class Path... Button.
Click the Add Archive... Button.
Browse to the /opt/java/jre/lib/ext/jmf.jar file to add it.

ValueObject XML creator - NEED SUGGESTION

This is a real time scenario...
1) I have many value objects generated from third party software.
(A Value object is a simple java file which has a set of attributes in it with corresponding set/get methods. Ofcourse they may inturn contain other value obejcts )
2) I need to know whether i can write a parser which will read the src/class file & generate an XML file for all the attributes present in the valueObject.This includes all the primitive data types, collections & other value objects present in the original value object.
3) I need a corresponding unmarshall for the same ..ie., some parser which would actually read from the file & generate a value object (java object)
Please note that some value objects may be extremely large with so many other large value objects contained in it. All that im interested is i need to populate these objects using an Xml file rather than manually writing java code to set each and every attribute present in the object (imagine , when u need to set the attribute of another object within this which is present in hierarchy of 5-6 levels ... u need to create all the corresponding objects before actually setting that one VALUE !!!)
can anybody tell me if there is already a tool for doing the same if not , what parser .. what reference material i need to look into so that i can write my own stuff to do it.
Assume im new to XML Parsers.
PLEASE SUGGEST, Any help highly appreciated

The only one that I am aware of that's relatively simple to use is castor (http://castor.org) that should give you what you need. If your VOs are rather complex, you may need to do some "tweaking" of the XML, which Castor also provides for.
Unfortunately, JAXB doesn't (yet?) have this kind of capability that I know of. It might be buried somewhere in the API and not show-cased in the (date) Web Service Tutorial.
