Improving existing PDF image quality without losing text

I have finished PDFs, the result of an OCR process that produced text under image files.  I would like to modify the lighting of the images without changing the text part of the PDF.  Is this possible in any version of Acrobat Pro?  And, if so, which version and how is it done?

I tried to do that, but I can't get Photoshop to deal withn the whole document--only single pages. and the document is over 200 pages long.  I can save the PDF images in some image format and edit the batch, but then I can't get them reconnected to the text.  (I have used batch processes in Photoshop, but it won't regard the PDF document as a batch.)  So, I seem stuck wither way. It seems as if there is no way to improve images in a text-under-image PDF while using Acrobat Pro--which was my original question.
If there is a way that any one knows about, I would love to hear about it.

exporting a PDF from keynote without losing hyperlinks
anyone have any ideas why it doesn't export the hyperlinks to the PDF?
i only have PDF reader on my machine, not the full PDF creator

Or, better than that, export the PDF from InDesign as PDF/X-4!
By default, Acrobat and Reader use overprint preview when displaying PDF/X-4 files. Plus you have the benefit of full color management and not having transparency ruined by premature flattening.
One other note. Other than for the fairly common practice of overprinting black text over colors to avoid halo effects due to registration, one should be exceptionally careful in using overprint. Trapping, the other good, justifiable use for overprint is really best performed by the RIP. Most modern RIPs provide for automatic trapping. Overprint should absolutely not be used as a “poor man's transparency,” especially in conjuction with spot colors. With the advent of real transparency in the Adobe imaging model and hence in Illustrator, InDesign, and PDF, there is no good reason to use overprint hacks anymore to simulate transparency.

  • How to increase the image size without losing resolution in iPhoto?

    Dear All
I have pics i took with my phone which is not an iphone, just little sony ericsson phone.
Is there a way to increase the image size without losing resolution in iPhoto please? Or cheap 3rd party software or shareware perhaps?
    thank you very much.
    veedeekay

iPhoto has no way to do that. You'll need an external editor for the job. Not all have the capability. I know Photoshop has.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • How to decrease PDF file size without losing quality of images and vector lines?

I have several ai files that I saved as PDFs. Now I'm having problem with the size of this combine files. Can some one assist me with the proper way on decreasing file size without losing quality.
    Thank you.

I am having the same problem with a different file that's in a different format mentioned above. I'm trying to convert a ".srf" file and turn it into a ".pdf." I was successful doing this but my image, once in a .pdf was also pixilated.
I thought if I convert my ".srf" file to a ".jpeg" first, then bring this newly created ".jpeg" into a ".pdf," I would have more luck. But unfortunately the free download I got on my computer that's supposed to convert any file to any file, CANNOT convert ".srf" files to ANYTHING!
Does anyone have any ideas? Or any specific programs I should get?
    Thanks!

  • Excel to pdf and back without losing formatting

I have created an Excel spreadsheet to become a fillable form and have to add new information to the original excel file that is to be included on the fillable form. How do I do this without losing all of the work I created on the fillable form ie text, check, radio buttons and formatting of fields

    Hi,
You may open that converted pdf form in Acrobat.
Go to > Tools > Forms > Edit.
Then make changes you would like to add for form fields.  And if you want to Edit text. Toos> Content Editing.

  • Image Resizing Without Losing Resolution

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to achieve
    this...
    http://www.janisbreslin.com/
...specifically the full browser window sized images that

    Thanks in advance.

There no way to perfectly maintain resolution of a bitmap

    You pass null here.
    FileIO.fio.ep.getDocument().insertString(end, s, null);
That's why the attributes are reset.
You mut get proper attributes and pass them in the method.
Cast the FileIO.fio.ep.getDocument() to StyledDocument, get Character element from the document using caret postition and get the attributes from the element.

You don't.  so hopefully you've been keeping regular backups.

  • I'm unable to print or save pdf documents without losing text. Margins are not maintained page to page and text size might not be maintained either.

Printing within Firefox is untenable. I lose text at page break or a right margin. This happens when printing or saving as "pdf" file. Everything works fine in Safari.

    Dear user,
You are getting such output because you have checked ON the setting 'Print to file' in one of your previous prints. For resolving this issue, kindly uncheck option 'Print to file' present in bottom left corner of print dialog and then click on 'Print' (See attached image for reference).
Hope this will solve your problem.

  • PDF Image quality issue.

Whenever I create a PDF file from TIFF images it is of the desire quality but as soon as I close the file and re-open it it become much worse. If i extract all the pages from the document the quality goes back to normal, but when I close it again the same thing happens. This never used to happen, any ideas why it would start doing this?
    Thank you

As I said the files already exist. I cant physically rescan the original documents. I need to process them on the computer. And I believe "Formated Text and Graphics (AA8)" messes up the layout because it recreates the whole document and layout from scratch. While the output is clear it will make new font types and sizes and so on, and everything will look different from the original document and I dont want that. I need the original image to stay where it is, as it is. I just need a new OCR to go along with that image.

  • Untread Text Frames without losing text in the second frame

I probably not gonna use the right terms to express my question because I don't have an english version of ID. I'm sorry for that.
If you, for example, import a text document into your column-based layout, you are able to automate the text flow and it will flow into the columns. At the end of each frame there's a text-handler (threading text) that shows you where the text continues in the next frame.
I wanna know if there's a possibility to unthread text AND leave the text into the first column and the rest of the text into the next column WITHOUT being connected like before. If I try this I get a red plus-sign at the end of the first frame showing me there more text and the next frame ends up without text.
I can cut the text from behind the plus-sign and paste it into the next frame, okay. But there's something in my memory telling me it was already possible with Pagemaker to simply disconnect frames and leave the text intact.
I hope somebody understands my question?

Try to open Object style with no document open, double click on none then close and open indesign. Every frame after this process will be without border.
This is only correct for new created document, not for existing ones. If the problem existis in an existing document you have to change the default style with no object selected.
I would strongly recommend to create its own basic styles for each category and load them into the several style panels to have always styles with the same name in every document which makes exchange of items easier.
Default Object styles are those with the small rectangle graphic at the right. The one with the T ist for Text frames, the one without T for Image Frames.

  • Watermark PDF - Image Quality

I've run into a dilemma with adding a Watermark to scanned PDF files. Before adding the Watermark, they print in a wonderful grayscale with a healthy white background. After adding the watermark, all whites in the document turn a little green, even when I run the PDF through the Quartz grayscale filter.
The watermark is also black and white. I've set it at 20% opacity.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hi there,
it sounds like the PDF's are originally "Greyscale" and when the Watermark is added it is converting it to RGB !
Edit: I have just tried it, after the workflow is run the PDF with the watermark is now RGB !
Do you have Photoshop or Graphic Converter...you will have to add an action at the end to convert back to Greyscale !

  • Upgrading a .pdf content file without losing notes?

I have a .pdf file that I downloaded on O'Reilly (an 800-page textbook) that I've been reading with Adobe Reader.  I've created a lot of notes and bookmarks.  Yesterday I received a notice from O'Reilly that a revised version is available.  Is there any way I can port over my notes from the previous version to the new .pdf file?
I'm on a Macbook Air running OSX 10.6.7.

Links are not inside the content stream,  but it is usually impossible to reduce content stream size (except by removing content, of course).

  • RGB to CMYK without losing quality

How can I convert a photoshop file, which is in RGB, into CMYK image mode without losing quality?
Whenever I try to convert the image mode, it totally changes the colors making it damn ugly. I want the brochure to be printed and for that it should be in CMYK format.
    Kindly help me. Its urgent.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Snehal Masne

    Snehal,
A lot depends on the particular colors you're using in RGB, what sort of CMYK printer or press you're using and just how you're actually converting to CMYK. Most images print just fine in CMYK, as can be seen by the many thousands that print every day in magazines and newspapers around the world. CMYK's weakest areas are bright saturated blues, which will always print like crap because the inks just cannot print those colors. You haven't told anyone exactly why your conversions look like crap, only that they do. If you posted an example, more specific help could be given, but the bottom line is that there are always going to be some compromises going to press and you, as the designer, have to take those possibilities into account when doing your design. You can also trick the viewer's eyes into thinking the image is more saturated than it really is by intelligent use of color contrasts in images and designs. For instance, using a bright yellow, something that presses print quite well, next to the best blue you can print, will make that blue appear bluer and more saturated than it really is. Of course, if you need exact and specific color matches, you can always go to additional spot color plates using Pantone or other color inks, at an added cost in both money and complexity.
Entire books have been written on this subject, and for good reason.

  • Poor Image Quality at Start Menu

    Hi All
I use iDVD 08 for my movies and was creating a menu at the start of the program.
While the resolution looks good in iDVD (before burning to DVD), it is not so after. I would like to enquire on how can can improve on the image quality on my DVD.
FYI, I referring to the photos that I put in my start menu. I burn my DVD in NTSC format. Appreciate any help and advise.
    Thanks.
    Jojo

Here's what iDvd's Help Menu states about those 3 encoding settings you inquired about:
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
Can we really tell the difference ?
Yes. I can see the difference. And so can bcd in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8377592#8377592
Keep in mind Burned dvd's are low res devices by nature. Meaning all data is eventually compressed into mpeg 2 (normally). In general, Dvd's have not kept pace with today's higher res cameras and camcorders nor with apple's editing applications (ie, iMovie, FCE, and FCP) and there is very little you can do to improve upon this unfortunately since most macs do not yet support burning a Blu-ray disc. When and if they ever do, then we will see some significant improvements all the way around since Blu-ray dvd's hold at least 5 times the data of a standard dvd and with significantly higher clarity and resolution than the standard Dvd's most of us use today.
    Am I missing something ?
No. You aren't missing anything from what you have described above. Your observations are actually rather astute.
Hope this reply helps but if not just come on back.
