Imprted .pdf image - poor printout resolution

Hi there,
I have a .pdf vector image which I imported into a large AW drawing which is 6 by 6 A4 pages in size. I enlarged the imported .pdf to spread across the full 6x6 pages. Being a vector image (there are no raster elements) it looks fantastic on the screen when you zoom right in - however when I tried printing out the first pages as a test, it was quite ragged and much lower resolution than being displayed on the screen.
Since the total image as 'rasterized' for printing will be much larger than the 2000x2000 maximum in AW paint, is there any other workaround I can use to keep it nice and sharp on printout? (I have read the workaround for photos - but this will not work in this instance)

AppleWorks changes the resolution of all graphics formats except PICT to 72 dpi. Try opening the PDF in Graphic Converter & saving as PICT & them inserting the PICT file into AppleWorks. Even though PICT files themselves are much larger than other files types in the Finder, the resulting AppleWorks file will be smaller just because PICT is AppleWorks' native format.

  • Firefox mage quality and resolution was superb when I used XP and Vista. Now that I have Windows 7, however (with the Firefox 3.6.3 version), the image quality and resolution is poor. Please help me!

I am using the Firefox 3.6.3 version with my new Windows 7 operating system. When I used all the previous Firefox versions in my XP and Vista operating systems, image quality and resolution was excellent! However, now that I have upgraded to Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.3, the image quality and resolution is poor (unacceptable for downloading purposes).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I first activated my new computer and installed the Firefox 3.6.3.

All my images are pixelated in firefox 3.6.3
    http://www.dcgdcreative.com
Not only on my site but on most sites I view.
The issue is not solved by resetting the zoom text view (ctrl+0)
The issue is not resolved by starting in safemode with add-ons disabled
The problem seems to only affect .jpeg files and only on Windows 7 on my desktop; as I have viewed several sites using windows XP with my laptop, no issues.
I had the same issue with IE8 and was able to fix the problem with by setting up the compatibility view for all sites. Issue fixed no problems at all. But nothing similar for firefox?
    Whats the deal?

  • Book Module Export PDF Quality Poor - any solutions?

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out a solid solution / workflow for making PDF porfolio's for clients.
The commercial studio where I work needs to send pdf portfolio's to potential clients quite often.
So far we have not been able to find a perfect solution on how to do this with any adobe product (including ACROBAT!)
one of 2 things seem to continually happen.
    1. Gigantic file sizes for decent quality PDF's (75 mb +)
    2. Horrible color shifts and degraded picture quality for usably sized (3-7mb) portfolio's.
I was hopeful that the new Book Module in LR4 would solve this issue.
admitedly the quality is better IF I save it at jpeg quality 100 and a dpi of 240 but this resulted in a 74 MB file (for 31 images on a 8x10 page)
I clearly can not send a file that large with email....
as soon as I make the dpi or jpeg quality lower they look like total garbage...
Further more the colors shift greatly (on the lower res versions) when opened in something other then Acrobat reader (ie Mac Preview)
Could someone please share a workflow that will result in profesional quality PDF's at a screen resolution.
    We have / use the CS5 suite / LR4 / Acrobat Pro
In short as a PRO studio I want PRO quality our of my PRO software...
I would like to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible.
and if at all possible do it all within LR4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

Thanks, I haven't used the LR4 Book module that much and only saw the 'Export Book to PDF' button at the left-bottom of the screen. I tried a Book module 'PDF' Export using 7x7 size, Quality 80, sRGB, 150 dpi, and Standard Glossy sharpening. Here are the results:
    1) PDF file size = 3.3 MB
    2) Standard Optimized PDF (Acrobat 9 compatibility) = 3.2 MB
I next tried the 'Export Book to PDF' button:
    3) PDF file size = 4.8 MB
    4) Standard Optimized PDF (Acrobat 9 compatibility) = 975 KB
When viewed on my 25" 1920 x1080 monitor on Windows 7 64bit in Acrobat 9 Pro at 'Fit to Page' zoom size all four PDF files look identical in color and sharpness. When viewed in 'Full Screen' mode only the largest file size PDF (#3 above) created using the 'Export Book to PDF' button exhibits good sharpness. This is probably due to the size of the exported JPEG image having insufficient resolution to fill the screen at 100% (1:1 pixel mapping):
    7" x 7" Book at 150 dpi = 6.88" x 150 = 1032x 1032 (Mapped to my 1920 x 1080 monitor)
    Requires 1080/6.88" = 157 dpi minimum
    7" x 7" Book at 170dpi = 6.88” x 170= 1170 x 1170 (Mapped to your 2560 x 1440 monitor)
    Requires 1440/6.88" = 210 dpi minimum
I next created a Book PDF file (3.7 MB) with the above calculated 157 dpi for my 1920 x1080 monitor viewing in Full Screen mode. The results are as sharp as the full-size ‘Export Book to PDF’ file (4.8 MB). I then tried a PDF optimization of the 4.8 MB file using Acrobat Optimization downsample setting of 157 dpi for images above 235 dpi and obtained an equally sharp file 1.0 MB in size. So this method still seems to produce a smaller file than obtainable direct from the LR Book module.
For your NEC MultiSync PA271w monitor with higher 2560 x1440 resolution try using 210 dpi, 80 quality and Standard Glossy Sharpening. When I used Matte High settings the image was clearly over-sharpened for screen viewing. Next try the ‘Export to PDF’ button and then ‘PDF Optimization’ in Acrobat Pro using 210 dpi downsample setting. It shouldn’t hurt to go slightly higher in dpi, but you don’t want to go lower than ‘Full Screen’ 1:1 pixel mapping.

  • How do I save as a pdf without reducing the resolution?

Hi everyone. I am making business cards and I have to upload a pdf to a website to place my order. My card is ready to go at the specified resolution (300 dpi) and dimensions, but whenever I save it as a pdf, it reduces the resolution immensely. The dimensions of the photoshop file are 1062x615, whereas the pdfs (no compression) are always 254x147. The photoshop file, again, is 300 dpi.
The dimensions in inches for both files: 3.54 x 2.05
Obviously 254 pixels across 3.54 inches is not 300 dpi, but I cant figure out why it would do this. Please help.

    OK  InDesign quickstart guide
Open indesign and create a new document.  Use the drop down and choose Intent: Print and US Business card
Ctrl d opens the place image dialogue box.  locate the image which can be a PSD file with no text or JPG or PNG whatever.
Drag the cursor to place and size the image.  Use the Selection tool (v) to move and resize.
With your background image selected (handles and bounding box visible) use the Windows drop down to open the Text wrap panel and chose 'No text wrap' (or you won't be able to place text over it).
Now create a text frame and use the Type tool to place your text.  This can be maddeningly frustrating but you'll get there.  Google and Youtube is your friend.

    When done, Export to PDF

The resulting PDF will print way way better than a bitmap image created entirely with Photoshop.

  • Scanning: The image size is too big. Please reduce the image height, width, resolution, scaling or output type.

    Good Day.
I have recently discovered an issue with scanning.  I have tried scanning straight from the printer, through image capture, and through preview.  All yeilding the same results since they are essentailly kicking off the same scanning applet.  I can scan a jpeg formatted file as long as I applet is in the "Hide Details" mode.  If I click on the "Show Details" button, which I need to do to scan to PDF, I immediately receive an error stating: The image size is too big. Please reduce the image height, width, resolution, scaling or output type.
I'm currently using an HP C5180 printer.   The most recently installed software was Adobe Digital Editions (I installed this to read an on-line e-book).  Not sure if there is any correlation.    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Sig
The scanner works with a Windows computer, which proves the device is functional at a cursory level. The drivers are now distributed by Apple and this is an Apple computer. There is no scanning software provided by HP. HP's answer is that Mountain Lion takes care of all of this.  I anticipate that some setting or driver was somehow tweaked since the scanner had been working with Mountain Lion until a few days ago.  The device in question is an Apple product. So, I'm pretty confident that I'm in the right place.

  • Unable to display a PDF image on the page - Mac 10.6

    Hi,
Running an iMac with 10.6.8 and Indesign 5.0.4. Just wanting to export a PDF as per usual via File > Export function. However, I keep getting the error message, "Unable to display a PDF image on the page'. No idea what this is and have never seen this error before. The only info on the internet reveals error code 0x2511(9489).
I've deleted prefs, closed down and re-opened Indesign and even restarted the computer. I've also re-linked the images contained in the document and even created a new document and set it up the same, but still the same problem. Investigating further, other Indesign documents still export properly.
The only ones that don't export are 2 documents, both giving this same error message. Both documents are ones where a client has sent a PDF, I've imported into two of these into an 2-page A4 Indesign document (each PDF is 48MB each) and then just added a text layer (using Times) which is properly installed on the computer. I basically have to 'update' course dates for the client and add PDF to the website, all very basic.
I've tried importing a jpeg and other PDFs into the file (replacing the existing ones) and they export fine.
All my software is legal and I've exported this document before now in exactly the same File > Export without any problems (under 10.5 and 10.6).
OK... I've just imported the offending PDFs into Acrobat, optimized and shrunk the file size, re-imported back to Indesign and the PDF export works fine. So it seems InDesign / PDF Export doesn't like large imported PDFs? I think they were originally exported from Publisher, so maybe that's the problem or a file conflict somehow.
Any ideas on the culprit? I've googled it, searched these forums and Apple discussions and haven't found anything. Although I've found a workaround, I do get large files to import and then export. Thanks for any help
    Steve

It does sound like a problem with the original PDF files the client sent you. You can check how they were made in Acrobat Pro from the Additional MetaData button on the Description tab of the document properties dialog. It will be under Advanced at the bottom of the list when the metadata opens.
You might be able to salvage them by running the optimzer and not changing the size, or just doing a Save As in Acrobat.

  • How to read ZIP files(having PDFs,Image) using MQ Series link for R/3

    Hi,
1)Is it possible to transfer a zip file (having an image or pdf) using IDocs in SAP 4.6C using MQ Series link for R/?
Scenario: "MQ Series link for R/3" converts Business-Reports from a third-party software, into SAP IDocs. Each Business-Report contains one XML file and one ZIP file.
2)Being on ABAP side,do I have to worry about how the zip file would be converted into IDocs?
    Detailed descrption:
This scenario requires integration of a non-SAP software which talks in XML with SAP R/3(4.6C).The customer has decided to go with 'MQ Series link for R/3' (which integrates any non-SAP application running on IBM MQ Series to R/3,by converting data(in any format) into IDocs). He is not ready to go for XI.
The Problem area is a functionality which requires the non-SAP software to send XML file along with an attached Zip file. So,XML document, basically, has a 'zippedFile' XML element having actual file in XML keyword 'file'.
This XML document ideally, should be converted by the subsystem(MQSeries link for R/3) into IDocs i.e. into a stream which could be stored in a table on R/3 side and later, sent back to the non-SAP software through MQ Series link to be converted into zip-file again with corresponding pdfs, images.I want someone who has worked in a similar scenario to confirm this.

    Hi,
I have a feeling I have posted this question in the wrong forum or maybe I will let you decide this.Any help would be appreciated (even the right forum name).

  • PDF images distorted in Keynote 6.0

When I Open a presentation created in Keynote V5.3 with Keynote 6.0, some PDF images look fine in th editor but become aliased and pixellated when displayed in presentation mode. If I copy the image from Keynote, save it to the desktop and then open it in Preview I see the same distortion. Is there
    a workaround for this.
    Joseph Ayers

Thank you so much. I didn't know that shortcut and it fixed it right away. I was surprised that when I went back to the section that all of those slide were only a small portion of the page. It's almost like the white part of the slide got bigger so the actual slide information shrunk. Obviously I hit something in my frustration that changed the slide size, but luckily it will be easy to replace. Great response to my question and much appreciated!

  • JPG or PDF image in Portfolio window

How do you remove the JPG or PDF image from the top right of a Portfolio window?
I'm using Acrobat X10.1.1 on an iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.2

I created a PDF Portfolio using the Wave layout. I added a few frames with a name and description.
I do not want to delete the image, I would like to remove the small jpg or pdf logo that appears on the picture (image) in the top right hand corner. The logo appears in both the Layout Mode and the Edit Mode. When I emailed the portfolio to myself the small logo was still in the picture.
    Thanks….

  • How to get Safari printing images in proper resolution?

I have problems printing high resolution images from a web page.
Example: When printing a 300 dpi image that measures 5 x 6 inches Safari rescales this image to a resolution of about 282 dpi which results in a slightly larger image. The web page contains CSS definitions with the correct image size. It is suspicious that the printed images always seem to be rescaled by 6.348%. I tried different CSS definitions and page structures with the same result.
When the CSS definition for the image size is increased by 6.348% the resolution and image size fits the original values and dimensions.
    What about this magical 6.348%?
The problem is verified on 10.4.11 and 10.5 with Safari 3.0.1 on different machines with all kind of images in every resolution you can think of, with different printer drivers (but I do not think this is relevant) - all images are rescaled by this magic factor. I tried all kind of printer settings, took a look at the Library plists related to printing ... Please help me.
It is weird that Safari offers ICC support for color proof matches but is not able to print an image with its correct resolution/dimensions. Firefox for example does not touch the image resolution, why the heck Safari does?

    Hi Ned,
Website builders are using maximum 75 DPI images. These are to small i quality for other use when you are looking for quality images. The reason for using images in small size like 75 DPI is to prevent that the website is getting to big in size, an for using them on the internet they are good enough for best viewing.
QuickTimeKirk is right to get better images from a website. If the developer is NOT offering a downloadble better quality you have to do it with the on they offer.

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André

  • How do you change the image size and resolution in photoshop everytime I change the width the height changes my measurements will not stay

Can someone assist me with changing image size and resolution.  each time I change the width the height changes and vice/versa?

There's a chain link between width and height. The point is to keep the aspect ratio the same, otherwise your picture would get stretched.
You click on the chain-link to shut that off and you can adjust width and height separately.
Also could you give us your version of Photoshop, what OS you are running it on (Windows 7 for example) and what exactly you want to do with your document?
Resolution is the print term for how many pixels will be printed on an inch of paper. It doesn't apply if your image is intended for screen viewing.

You need Acrobat Standard or Pro to convert the scanned image to readable text (OCR) and then save it as a Excel file (if Acrobat recognizes that it's a table, which I doubt it will). Maybe there are some 3rd party plugins that can help you further.

  • OCR Exact is doing weird cut and paste to original PDF image

Using Acrobat 7, I am scanning old typewritten documents, most on legal sized paper.  When I run “OCR exact” on them to create searchable text (hidden text) behind the original image, the original image (on top of the hidden text) changes.  Specifically, Acrobat takes part of the original PDF image and copies it at the bottom of the original PDF image.  When I have the document displayed in full screen, I can sit there and watch the image change at the bottom when the OCR completes running.  It always changes the bottom of the PDF by taking a small snapshot of part of the PDF from somewhere else in the PDF and repeating it at the bottom.  I have seen it take a chunk from the top of the document and repeat it at the bottom, and I have seen it take a chunk of the document from the middle and repeat it at the bottom.  The “repeated part” will sometimes start at the very end (not covering original text), and sometimes start an inch or two from the end (thus covering some original text).  It only seems to happen on documents that were typewritten.  Scans of documents created after the invention of word processors don’t end up having the problem I am describing.
Anyone know what is happening and how to correct it?  Thank you.

    Hi stpippin,
I am not sure what you are trying to do. Numbers works best with several small tables, each with a purpose. Rather than copying formulas to another part of a table, you can create another table with a new purpose.
Table 1 contains values (typed in, pasted in, or calculated from elsewhere):
    Fruit
    Value
    Apple
    99
    Banana
    98
    Cherry
    97
    Date
    96
    Eugenia
    95
    Fig
    94
    Grape
    93
    Table 2
    Fruit
    Value
    Apple
    99
    Banana
    98
    Cherry
    97
    Date
    96
    Eugenia
    95
    Fig
    94
    Grape
    93
A2 contains this formula (and Fill Down and Right)
    =Table 1::A2
Select cells A2 to B8 and copy. Then paste into Table 3:
    Fruit
    Value
    Apple
    99
    Banana
    98
    Cherry
    97
    Date
    96
    Eugenia
    95
    Fig
    94
    Grape
    93
    Formula in Table 3::A2 becomes
    =Table 1::A2
Now you have another table that duplicates Table 2. What do you want to do with it?
    Regards,
    Ian.
