IMS 5.1 - Sol8 - ims_master

Hi,
is it normal behaviour that ims_master starts up and shuts down every minute?

I searched several documents and found useful sentences in iMS5.2 Release Notes(Part # 816-6456-10 February 2003):
On both Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 8 platforms, applications that are linked with the 32-bit libthread /usr/lib/libthread.so) or the 64-bit libthread /usr/lib/sparcv9/libthread.so.1) library might hang. This bug can affect any process at startup, particularly utilities in scripts (such as mboxutil) as well as processes that are frequently started like the ims_master channel.
Who can make sure it's just the warning reason in iMS5.1(and patch1) ?
Will it be resolved after adding the OS patch as what the following says?
SPARC Solaris 8 with 108827-35
Thanks and regards,
Roger

  • How to increase ims_master process number ?

    Hi,
    We are running:
Oracle Communications Messaging Server 7u4-23.01(7.0.4.23.0) 64bit (built Aug 10 2011)
    libimta.so 7u4-23.01 64bit (built 17:01:27, Aug 10 2011)
    Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/config/imta.cnf (compiled)
    SunOS store1.unige.ch 5.10 Generic_138888-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise
and I would have wished to increase ims_master number of processes from 2 to 4.
Here's my channel definition in imta.cnf:
    ims-ms defragment subdirs 20 notices 1 4 8 12 16 backoff "pt5m" "pt10m" "pt30m" "pt1h" "pt2h" "pt4h" maxjobs 4 pool IMS_POOL fileinto $U+$S@$D
    ims-ms-daemon
I have also this configuration in my job_controller.cnf:
    [POOL=IMS_POOL]
    job_limit=4
However this don't do the job.
Can you tell me what's wrong in my configuration ?
    Thanks by advance,
    PL

job_controller starts ims_master processes as needed per threaddepth and the incoming load. So increasing maxjobs/job_limit will not cause more ims_master processes until job_controller finds the need for them.
Also note that ims_master shuts down relatively soon after it finds there is no more work for it. So it is perfectly normal for the number of ims_master processes to fluctuate and to see "shutting down" and "starting up" messages in the "imta" log file.

This will probably require enabling debug on the ims-ms channel and correlation to other log files to figure out what recipient this is happening to and whether it is all messages for that recipient or random. You should probably open a support case.

  • Error in imta log file - IMS v 5.2

    Hi
I have an imta log file that rotates automatically. Since the last time it rotated automatically, if have noticed that the imta log file is filling up with the following error:
    [17/Mar/2004:12:34:52 +0000] mta2 ims_master[7119]: General Critical: func=config_init; error=called more than once without config_free in between
This error occurs every second. I didn't have this before. The log file rotates every 24 hours or so. All the other file are very small, and the issue doesn't exist on our other mta.
Does anyone have any ideas please.
    Ali

I don't find any reference to this error. Please provide the exact version of iMS you're running. Do:
    imsimta version
and post the results. There are about 30 different hotfix levels you could be at.
    Other things to do.
stop the messaging server. Check that all the processes are stoppedl. Kill any that don't stop within a couple of minutes. Restart it. Do the errors continue?
Do any of your users complain that they cannot get mail? Have any of the processes crashed, possibly leaving the mailbox database locked? Restarting will fix that.
Are processes crashing, possibly due to database corruption? reconstruct -m may fix that.
Are processes crashing when some users log in, possibly due to damaged index files? reconstruct -r may fix that.

  • Ims-ms queue

Hi im using Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-5.02 (built Oct 12 2007; 32bit)
    libimta.so 6.3-5.02 (built 17:05:22, Oct 12 2007; 32bit)
My email service accidently have problem cant send email internal and receive email from outside but can sent to outside. Funny right.
im tired to think what are problem i have, lastly i check on ims-ms queue and show like
    Queued Queued
Channel Messages = Active + Delayed Size (Mb)
    process 161 0 0 15.0
Why this problem happen. ? Can somebody solved this ?

If messages are being accepted and placed in the ims-ms channel queue, then you need to investigate what happens to them next. Are they being tried and failing and put back in the queue for later retry? Or are they not being tried at all? or...
The mail.log_current log should be the first place to look for that sort of thing - even without enabling any debugs. Just make sure you have the "logging" option on defaults channel in imta.cnf. If you change that, be sure to do imsimta cnbuild; and imsimta restart.
Also, in imsimta qm, you can do the "directory" command and then use "history <n>" where <n> is a number of a message displayed by the directory listing. That will show what has happened with delivery attempts so far. eg:
    # sbin/imsimta qm
    qm.maint> dir
    Wed, 05 Jan 2011 09:20:21 -0500 (EST)
Data gathered from the queue directory tree
    Channel: ims-ms                   Size Queued since
        1 ZZh0g1f0Yh7f0.00               1  05 Jan 2011 09:20:12
    Total size:                          1
    Grand total size:                    1
    qm.maint> history 1
    Message id: 1
    Filename: /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/data/queue/ims-ms/000/ZZh0g1f0Yh7f0.00
    Transport layer information:
    Envelope From: address: [email protected]
    Envelope To: addresses: stu2%xxx.edu@ims-ms-daemon
    Message delivery history:
    No history information available
qm.maint>Note that in this case, the message has never been tried. This is indicated by the fact that there is no history but also by the fact that the queue file name begins with "ZZ".
If the messages are never being tried, then I wonder if job_controller is still running? Or if it is unable to start ims_master processes for some reason.

  • IMS 5.2: smtp server hangs

Running on Solaris 8, the smtp server seems to hang every few days, with the result that mail for my site ends up being hung up for hours until we restart the process.
Is this a known bug?! Any way to fix it?
It doesn't make iMS a very attractive solution for an enterprise that relies heavily on email.

    Hello,
I know that there has been a number of fixes on solaris as well as NT since Feb dist. Here is what I have of the bugfixes, there may have been more since this hotfix. If you have a license you should be able to ask sun support for the latest hotfix.

  • Is it possible to give multiple users the same email account using different individual user ids/passwords (iMS 5.1)?

Hence, a manager could let one or more assistants access the manager's email. Also one could set up a group email account and multiple users with different id/passwords could process/manage the account.

Yes, look in the admin guide for the shared folders section. This in essence allows you to delegate permissions of individual mail folders to other users.
The functionality is being enhanced for iMS 5.2 due out shortly according to iPlanet.

  • Sending mail through multiple domains with iMS

I have iMS configured and working fine for multiple domains (users are
members of multiple domains). I have done this with a main email address
(main.com), and alternative email addresses to the other domains (alt1.com,
alt2.com...) so that there is one central mail location at (main.com). This
    works great for receiving emails.
However, when I send email I would like to be able to show the FROM address
being from one of the alternate domains (alt1.com, alt2.com...) rather than
the main domain (main.com) sometimes. I have authentication turned on for
the sending messages, and users are logging in as ([email protected]). I assume
there is something I can add that will allow this to happen as long as a
valid address exists on my server. Any thoughts?
main domain: main.com (All mail is addressed from this domain)
    alt domains: alt1.com, alt2.com...
    Thanks in advance, Chris

BTW I am using iMS 5.1.

  • How do I set up a proxy server for webmail services to assist in migrating from NMS 4.15p6 on NT to iMS 5.1 on HP-UX.

I want to have minimal if no downtime at all when moving the message store. iPlanet support hinted at an "unsupported" proxy server solution, and would give no further information. I am running the MMP with 5.1 and that supports IMAP and POP migration, but I need support for webmail services as well to complete the migration from NT to UNIX with minimal distruption of thousands of users. I am using the MoveUser utility to move the message store in hopes that will clear up some store corruption we have been seeing.

To get this in a 'supported' fashion you might want to wait until the iMS 5.2 release. iPlanet has said this release would include a webmail proxy/mmp server to do exactly what you desire.
A proxy server would not be a solution to your problem as it would have to have access and knowledge to the users mailhost attribute to determine to which host to route the webmail connection. The webmail proxy/mmp will have this functionality.
You might want to contact your iPlanet rep about this product and maybe you could get a copy of it as part of a beta program. I know iPlanet is always looking for oppourtunities for feedback like this.

  • Is this a bug of ims 5.2?

my ims version is 5.2 and hotfix 1.2.5
now, i want to do a limit which make outer domain mail address can not send email to some users of local domain.
So i add a line in the section 'SEND_ACCESS' of the mappings file as so:
    SEND_ACCESS
    tcp_*|*|*|*@[127.*] $X5.1.2|$NBad$ destination$ system
    tcp_*|*|*|*@localhost.* $X5.1.2|$NBad$ destination$ system
    tcp_local|*|tcp_intranet|[email protected] $N$D30|You_Are_Not_allowed
    tcp_local|*|tcp_intranet|[email protected] $N$D30|You_Are_Not_allowed
! Delete the next two items for Direct LDAP mode
    ! *|*|inactive|* $X4.2.1|$NMailbox$ temporarily$ disabled
    ! *|*|deleted|* $X5.1.6|$NRecipient$ no$ longer$ on$ server
if set as up, outer mail still can be sent to [email protected]
but if i change [email protected] to * [email protected], so outer mail can not be sent to [email protected]
I must add the asterisk * before the [email protected]!
the * is required or is a bug of ims 5.2!

    Hi,
I don't know what to tell you except it works for an iMS5.2hf2.14 installation (latest available patch from SUN support):
    -bash-3.00$ telnet mumble 25
    Trying 1.2.3.4...
    Connected to mumble.test.com.
    220 mumble.test.com -- Server ESMTP (iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 HotFix 2.14 (built Aug 8 2006))
    helo test.com
    250 mumble.test.com OK, gyruss.test.COM [1.2.3.5].
    mail from: [email protected]
    250 2.5.0 Address Ok.
    rcpt to:[email protected]
    550 5.7.1 You_Are_Not_allowed: [email protected]
The log you supplied seemed fine - the channels and addresses are correct and should have triggered the mapping rule. All I can suggest is that you try a later hotfix (iMS5.2 patch 2) in your test environment to see if you still have the issue and if you do then log a support call. The patch you are running is over 2 years old so chances are if there was a bug it has been fixed.
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • IChat's Video Chat & IMs Supported

    Hi there,
What IMs are supported by iChat's video chat function?
I'm asking this because, I have tried GTalk on iChat, and the video chat button is greyed out.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
iChat uses the same Video Codecs no matter which Buddy list you start from.
Therefore it can Video - iChat to iChat from an AIM/Apple ID Buddy list that logs into AIM or viw and Jabber Buddy List (including Googletalk) to any Jabber Buddy that is running iChat.
Of course the Bonjour Buddy list invokes the protocols to Video to other MAcs on you LAN that also have iChat open.
The GoogleTalk App for PC and the GoogleTalk Plugin for Intel macs can not do Video with iChat.
Not can iChat Video chat to a User logged in to the GoogleTalk web based list in Google mail's page.
Jabber as a whole are working on thier Own Video solution.
GoogleTalk have gone their own way despite being a Jabber server.

  • Submit PDF form data IMS database.

    Hello
I have developed a pdf form using livecycle designer and it has a submit button in it. The form is published to our organization website. What we would like to do is, when the user opens and fills up the pdf form either on web browser / or after downloading to their desktop, users should be able to post the data in the form directly into our IMS database. Our users are not connected to our organization network but just to the internet.
I understand that we need to use a Submit button with 'Submit As' property set to XML. IMS connect is an IBM interface that would read this xml and pass the data to the database. But, what I would like to know is the architecture and how the components communicate here. i.e. for our design document.
I am assuming that we would need to lay out these components on the diagram but not very sure of the order in which the data is flowing from client to the database.
    1. Web browser
    2. Internet Connection
    3. Webserver (this is where the org. website is and the form is located on the website)
    4. LiveCycle ES sitting on an application server?
    5. Database tier.
Appreciate if anyone could tell me exactly the steps and the data flow.

You cannot use a submit button to invoke a web service. You woudl create your web service to recieve a single parameter (the XML that represents the data on your form). Then create a hidden field (to hold the data) and bind the input parameter to that field. Now using a regular button, add code that will take the data that is in the data dom and dump it into your hidden field:
    HiddenFieldName.rawValue = xfa.datasets.data.saveXML("pretty")
Make sure the your hidden field is set for multiline. Now in the next line of code we need to invoke the web service. You can use the invokeBtn supplied by the DataConenction wizard (dropped on your form of course). You can use the command:
    invokeBtn.execEvent("click");
This will send the data in the hidden field to the web service. You can code your web service to return a string that indicates that the data was recieved. You can bind that output parameter to another hidden field. Once the web service executes then that field will hold the message string. Now you can put up a message box to the user:
    app.alert(hiddenfieldname.rawValue);
When I talk about hidden fields I mean to make the presence invisible not hidden.
    Make sense?

  • IMS transactions encoding in the Sender adapter.

    Hello,
I would like to use the FTP sender to pick up files created as IMS transactions, which are in EBCDIC encoding, I don't know what value to use for the content conversion in the sender CC to decode the binary.

As it turns out, we are having a completely different problem with the adapter right now, so i can't test these right now.  I will give yo guys points for responding and leave the resolution of this for another time.

Best thing for you to do is read the tuning guide, found here:
    http://ims.balius.com/downloads.php#tuning_guide
Please note, this site does not work with IE. It's not a Sun site, but has the best tuning guide available.
You may end up increasing maxjobs for your channels, increasing the POOL that the jobs are pulled from, etc. It's all well covered in the guide, as are some OS related tuning tips.
    Strongly recommended.
