IMS 5.2 Symetric Cluster Install

hi,
the docs discuss the installation process for an asymetric cluster (Sun Cluster 3.0) in a reasonable amount of detail but there are no specific docs for a symmetric cluster install.
Are these available anywhere?

Did you run ims_dssetup script that is included in the latest patch/hotfix bundle or did you use the one in the original dist?
Sounds like you got a mess. Uninstall everything, get rid of registry keys and re-install. Also check for directory server related text files in system32 folder.

• Multiple ASM instances using single cluster install - Is it possible??

Hi,
I have 2 node RAC cluster installed on Linux. All the storage is on EMC. I need to setup another environment using HP storage on the same hosts. Is it possible to created second ASM instance using the same cluster install?? I wanted to have clear separation b/w EMC and HP environments and that's wondering if it's feasible to do that.
Haven't tried it yet to see if it complains.
Thx
Anitha

Anitha,
The data migration won't happen (at least not aggressively) until you do step 2 in your list where you remove the EMC disks. That removal operation will take a long time as Oracle will have to move the data before it can complete the operation. If you want to be sure, I'd recommend creating a new disk group with one of your new disks, put a small tablespace in it, create some data in it, then add a disk to that new group and remove the original disk. Then you'll have some confidence in the procedure and verify that it works without risking your production data. After you test, you can drop the disk group and use the disks for their intended purposes.
To answer your question, yes, that's the process exactly as I suggested it above. Should work fine--but will probably take a while to do the remove, so be prepared to leave that running for quite a while (i.e. don't expect to close the terminal and go home right after running the remove).

Cluster install of weblogic is not working properly. We are getting kicked out every now and then

• 11G Cluster Install: Identify Net Interface shows wrong IP subnets??

I'm in the middle of an 11Gr2 cluster install.
On the screen where it has you Identify Network Devices,
On my eth0 (public) ip...and the eth3 (vip) listings...it has the wrong subnet.
Example...
11.8.224.0(shown by oui)....should be 11.8.232.0 for eth0
and
11.8.224.0 (shown by oui)...should be 11.8.232.0 for eth3
eth1, is shown correctly.
When I look at ifconfig...I confirm my subnet numbers should be ok. I cannot find a way on the OUI screen, to change anything about the subnet IP address. It will only let me change the "type" to public, private or do not use.
Any ideas where the OUI is picking up its information concerning the network interfaces?? I dunno why it is showing 224 rather than 232.
Any suggestions? I can't find anything about this on the Oracle support site...
This is on a RHEL5 box, 64 bit.
Thanks in advance,
cayenne

Yes,
you can configure etho or eth1 using
#system-config-networkafter changes done you have to restart the services, make sure both the nodes are not using same ethernet ports
service network restart

• Simple two node Cluster Install - Hung after reboot of first node

Hello,
Over the past couple of days I have tried to install a simple two node cluster using two identical SunFire X4200s, firstly following the recipe in: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/howtoguides/twonodecluster.jsp
and when that failed referring to http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0912 and http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2970.
I am trying to keep the install process as simple as possible, no switch, just back to back connections for the internal networking (node1 e1000g0 <--> node2 e1000g0, node1 e1000g1 <--> node2 e1000g1)
I ran the installer on both X4200s with default answers. This went through smoothly without problems.
I ran scinstall on node1, first time through, choosing "typical" as suggested in the how to guide. Everything goes OK (no errors) node2 reboots, but node1 just sits there waiting for node2, no errors, nothing....
I also tried rerunning scinstall choosing "Custom", and then selecting the no switch option. Same thing happened.
I must be doing something stupid, it's such a simple setup! Any ideas??

I have found out why the install hung - this needs to be added into the install guide(s) at once!! - It's VERY frustrating when an install guide is incomplete!
The solution is posted in the HA-Cluster OpenSolaris forums at:
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/ha-clusters/ohac/Documentation/SCXdocs/relnotes/#bugs
In particular, my problem was that I selected to make my Solaris install secure (A good idea, I thought!). Unfortunately, this stops Sun Cluster from working. To fix the problem you need to perform the following steps on each secured node:
Problem Summary: During Solaris installation, the setting of a restricted network profile disables external access to network services that Sun Cluster functionality uses, ie: The RPC communication service, which is required for cluster communication
Workaround: Restore external access to RPC communication.
Perform the following commands to restore external access to RPC communication.
# svccfg
svc:> select network/rpc/bind
svc:/network/rpc/bind> setprop config/local_only=false
svc:/network/rpc/bind> quit
# svcadm refresh network/rpc/bind:default
# svcprop network/rpc/bind:default | grep local_only
Once I applied these commands, the install process continued ... AT LAST!!!

• Webcenter Site 11g : Cluster Install : logout issue facing.

Hi Friends ,
We have installed the Webcenter site 11g Cluster install on Weblogic server successfully. We have faced any issues while installation. After successful installtion , When we login to sample sites( going here & then) and click on the LOGOUT button on the page , its not logging out , again it is landing with same page where we clicked LOGOUT button.
We shutdown one cluster server (NODE1) , and NODE2 was up and running , now logout issue is not persisting and same NODE2 was down and NODE1 was up , now also no issue. BUT , if we start accessing sites from LBR url , this logout issue facing. There is no Error in sites..log & cas.log.
:-( we have created the ORacle SR , but still we have not received any soln.
Please help us , what could be the issue here.
Naveen

It's possible this is due to the cas url not being set correctly. In SSOConfig.xml you have two places to set this
casUrl - needs to be set to the external address for cas, this link will be included in pages visible to the end user (eg via webserver or loadbalancer).
casInternalUrl - needs to be set to an internal address for cas, Sites/CS will call this directly (should not go through webserver/loadbalancer)
If these are correct, then try to rule out whether the webserver/loadbalancer is an issue
- is it session sticky?
- if you set casUrl / casInternalUrl to point direct to cas can you login/logout direct to CS without the loadbalancer?

• DB2 error in file db2nodes.cfg on HPUX cluster instalation

I am installing ECC6 SR3 ABAP + DB2 V9.1 in cluster environment on HPUX IA64 + ServiceGuard.
I am with the following problem, DB2 software does not function in second node.
Overview:
node1: host1
node2: host2
virtual host: vthostci
virtual host: vthostdb
ServiceGuard Package
pkgdb (hostnames host1/vthostdb)

ASCS on vthostci
DB Instance on vthostdb
CI on vthostci
components installed on node2
Creating Operating System Users (sapinst)
without problems until here, but when movement the DB instance and the ASCS to node2 the DB2 instance does not function, it presents error in the file db2nodes.cfg.
the file db2nodes.cfg contains the following line:
"0 host1 0" (the physical hostname the node1)
My problem is... How to configure DB2 Software/Instance on both node the HA cluster?
Another question, on ERP 2005 SR3 the db2 software is automatically installed by SAPinst in the following directory:/db2/db2<dbsid>/db2_software.
That is correct in cluster environment? because /db2 is shared disk.
Please help me
Thanks.

Hi Licia ,
if you are running an single node and simply switch database from node1 to node2 this should not be a problem since the database software is taken over with the database .
If you have problems taking over the database software due to some issues
( like open files ) you can also keep the database software locally as before , but this then implies to maintain database software twice .
If you are running multiple DB2 nodes on cluster node1 and cluster node2 of course you need
database software installed and maintained locally on both nodes .
Best regards

• Oracle Linux 6.2 with RAC 11g cluster install fails on root.sh ioctl

I have 2 HP Servers I'm trying to install a cluster to.
I've tried Oracle Linux 6.2 and 6.3 with the same error on both nodes when running the root.sh script.
I have tried the permissions, run-levels, etc that I have found in the forum and nothing has worked except the deconfigure works great. /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force

ohasd failed to start at /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl line 443.
I can't see whats wrong, I did use ASM to configure iSCSI disks from a storage device which appeared to work correctly:
# oracleasm listdisks
VOL1
VOL2
VOL3
VOL5
# ls /dev/oracleasm/disks/
VOL1 VOL2 VOL3 VOL5
When I created the disks with ASM I used multipath successfuly:
# oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/mapper/23535333762373932
The other node can see the disks just fine with oracleasm listdisks
I chose 3 disks for the OCR - VOL1-3
There was one forum work around to edit the $GRID_HOME/crs/install/s_crsconfig_lib.pm which I did no Oracle Linux 6.3 to no avail. I also tried using NFS mounted volumes for the OCR drives but got the same error.
Using the install: linux.x64_11gR2_grid

oracleasm (aka asmlib) may not be supported on RHEL(OEL) 6.x. You do NOT need asmlib and it's days are numbered.

• DSC, SQL Server 2012 Enterprise sp2 x64, SQL Server Failover Cluster Install not succeeding

Summary: DSC fails to fully install the SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster, but the identical code snippet below run in powershell ise with administrator credentials works perfectly as does running the SQL server install interface.
In order to develop DSC configurations, I have set up a Windows Server 2012 R2 failover cluster in VMware Workstation v10 consisting of 3 nodes. All have the same Windows Server 2012 version and have been fully patched via Microsoft Updates.
The cluster properly fails over on command and the cluster validates. Powershell 4.0 is being used as installed in windows.
PDC
Node1
Node2
The DSC script builds up the parameters to setup.exe for SQL Server. Here is the cmd that gets built...
$cmd2 = "C:\SOFTWARE\SQL\Setup.exe /Q /ACTION=InstallFailoverCluster /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /INSTANCEID=MSSQLSERVER /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /UpdateEnabled=false /IndicateProgress=false /FEATURES=SQLEngine,FullText,SSMS,ADV_SSMS,BIDS,IS,BC,CONN,BOL /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=password#1 /SQLSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /SQLSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS=`"SAASLAB1\sql_admin`" `"SAASLAB1\sql_services`" `"SAASLAB1\cubara01`" /AGTSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /AGTSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /ISSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /ISSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /ISSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /FAILOVERCLUSTERDISKS=MountRoot /FAILOVERCLUSTERGROUP='SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' /FAILOVERCLUSTERNETWORKNAME=SQLClusterLab1 /FAILOVERCLUSTERIPADDRESSES=`"IPv4;192.168.100.15;LAN;255.255.255.0`" /INSTALLSQLDATADIR=M:\SAN\SQLData\MSSQLSERVER /SQLUSERDBDIR=M:\SAN\SQLData\MSSQLSERVER /SQLUSERDBLOGDIR=M:\SAN\SQLLogs\MSSQLSERVER /SQLTEMPDBDIR=M:\SAN\SQLTempDB\MSSQLSERVER /SQLTEMPDBLOGDIR=M:\SAN\SQLTempDB\MSSQLSERVER /SQLBACKUPDIR=M:\SAN\Backups\MSSQLSERVER > C:\Logs\sqlInstall-log.txt "
Invoke-Expression $cmd2
When I run this specific command in Powershell ISE running as administrator, logged in as domain account that is in the Node1's administrators group and has domain administrative authority, it works perfectly fine and sets up the initial node properly.
When I use the EXACT SAME code above pasted into my custom DSC resource, as a test with a known successful install, run with the same user as above, it does NOT completely install the cluster properly. It still installs 17 applications
related to SQL Server and seems to properly configure everything except the cluster. The Failover Cluster Manager shows that the SQL Server Role will not come on line and the SQL Server Agent Role is not created.
The code is run on Node1 so the setup folder is local to Node1.
The ConfigurationFile.ini files for the two types of installs are identical.
Summary.txt does have issues..
Feature: Database Engine Services
Status: Failed: see logs for details
Reason for failure: An error occurred during the setup process of the feature.
Next Step: Use the following information to resolve the error, uninstall this feature, and then run the setup process again.
Component name: SQL Server Database Engine Services Instance Features
Component error code: 0x86D8003A

failure . Status code: 5023. Description: The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation. .
It feels like this is a security issue with DSC or an issue with the setup in SQL Server, but please note I have granted administrators group and domain administrators authority. The nodes were built with the same login. Windows firewall
is completely disabled.
Please let me know if any more detail is required.

Hi Lydia,
Thanks for your interest and help.
I tried "Option 3 (recommended)" and that did not help.
The issue I encounter with the fail-over cluster only occurs when trying to install with DSC!
Using the SQL Server Install wizard, Command Prompt and even in Powershell by invoking the setup.exe all work perfectly.
So, to reiterate, this issue only occurs while running in the context of DSC.
I am using the same domain login with Domain Admin Security and locally the account has Administrators group credentials. The SQL Server Service account also has Administrators Group Credentials.

• SAP-R/3 resource fails in CRM cluster instalation.

Hi.
We just install CRM 4.0 in a cluster, and everything was working perfectly, but at the moment that we increased the value for parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE, the SAP-R/3 resource did not work anymore.
At this moment we already check several notes and also we replaced some dll in the kernel, c:windowssystem32 and c:windowsSapCluster, but this resource still failed.
Does somebody know how to solve this issue?
Thanks
Jorge Ramírez C.

This issue was already solved.
The problem was at the moment that we import profile, this action cut a line of the profile file.
we had to use variables into the profile file in order to have a shorter line.
It was really curious, because if we tried to start the SAP instance without cluster service it worked perfectly.
Anyway now everything is working very well, thank you so much for your time.
Jorge Ramírez Carrasco.

• Cluster install, high availability

Hi All,
Does anyone have a guide or can detail the steps (differences from a single server install) to install BPC 7.0 Microsoft version in a Cluster Environment(High Availability).
Cheers

Hello Jitendra,
SQL should have its own cluster group. So should DTC and the shared storage.
The name of the cluster that Sorin is refering to is the virtual name associated with the clustered resource, so in this case the DNS name of the SQL cluster group. The idea is that BPC does not care that it is running on a cluster, all it wants is a SQL server. The clustering aspect is transparent to BPC and is left to MS Clustering. Same thing if you have a specific group for SSAS, you give that group's DNS name when installing BPC.
The WEB/App servers components should not be installed on the cluster, but rather on NLB nodes.
Reporting services can be installed either on the cluster or on the web/app server, but keep in mind that most companies don't like having a web server on database servers, so we usually install SSRS on the web/app servers. The SSRS database repository would be located on the SQL cluster in either case.
In the case of NLB being used for the web/app servers, the file share should be located on a shared resource, it cannot be local on the web/app servers. It can be located on the cluster, or any dependable network share that uses the same AD security as the servers.
Note that for NLB we usually recommend using a hardware solution as it is faster than using the software solution that is part of Windows, and does not take resources away from the web/app server.
I hope this helps
Best regards,
Bruno Ranchy

• Non priviledged commands fail after patch cluster install

For several years, to allow users to access system functions for higher clock resolutions in their
applications, we have made the following mods to two files (per Sun recommendations):
In the /etc/system file, add lines:
* 10 ms clock resolution*
set higher_tick = 1*
In /etc/user_attr, add:
dssuser::::type=normal;defaultpriv=proc_clock_highres,file_link_any,proc_info,proc_session,proc_fork,proc_exec
Everything was fine until I installed the latest patch cluster (from 2-14-2011) on our Netra 210. No issues installing the cluster. Upon reboot, the dssuser cannot do some simple things, like use ftp or ping. Messages like this:
ping: unknown host
ftp: socket: Permission denied.
The root user has no problems using any of these commands. As soon as I comment out the dssuser line from the /etc/user_attr file, everything works as expected. But we need the highres clock settings for our applications. I am unfamiliar with the workings and intent of the entries in user_attr so any help would be most appreciated.
Mark

The problem is that after patch implementation, the special privileges for any user defined in the /etc/user_attr file were modified to append the string "!net_privaddr" specifically denying use of common commands ping and ftp for example. The output of ppriv:
$ ppriv $$
14870: -sh
flags = <none>
E: basic,proc_clock_highres,!net_privaddr
I: basic,proc_clock_highres,!net_privaddr
P: basic,proc_clock_highres,!net_privaddr
L: all
I had to add the keyword net_privaddr in the user_attr file like:
dssuser::::type=normal;defaultpriv=proc_clock_highres,file_link_any,proc_info,proc_session,proc_fork,proc_exec,net_privaddr
to get past this problem. A bug or what?

• Weblogic 9.2 cluster install across 2 linux servers - authentication errors

Hello all,
I am currently trying to install a 9.2 cluster across two Linux machines, but am having a few problems that I was hoping someone here could help with. I?ve been reading the documentation, but feel as though it?s getting me nowhere.
I have two servers, on which I have installed weblogic portal 9.2. On the first I have then used the configuration wizard to great an admin server and cluster members 1, 2 and 3.
A cluster is created and the three cluster members are assigned to it.
Then I configure two unix machines, for the servers 1 and 2.
I assign the admin server and cluster member 1 to the first server. Cluster members 2 and 3 are assigned to the second server.
The connection pools and JMS stores I left as the default values.
The configuration completes and a domain is created on the first server.
I have copied the complete user_projects directory to the second server. I didn?t want to go through the configuration steps on each server that weblogic was to be installed on, so this looked like the easiest way to get the startManagedWeblogic scripts onto the second server. Also I didn?t find anything in the documentation that mentioned how to set up a cluster across multiple machines in any detail, only how to install multiple instances on a single server and run them as a cluster.
I manage to start the admin server ok and can connect through the web based admin console.
The first cluster member also starts up on the first server.

IV

Hello ,
I can help you in this regard, (let me see).
Let me start from the beginning.
Assumptions:
M1 is hosting 1-Admin server(AdminServer), 2-Managed Server(ms1,ms2),
M2 is hosting 1 -managed server (ms3)
1. Install WebLogic Server/Portal product on M1 and M2 say /home/user1/bea1 - on M1
/home/user1/bea1 - on M2
2. Create Cluster Domain using ConfigWiz/WLST.
[ here I will talk abt Config Wiz)
- Open config Wiz
- Create domain in Production Mode.(ideally Cluster is not supported in Dev mode )
- Create 1 Admin server, 3 Managed server Host = <M1> and config SSL port
AdminServer ? Host_M1
Ms1 ? Host_M1
Ms2 ? Host_M1
Ms3 ? Host_M2
NOTE: *** Don't use IP addresses - use hostnames. The hostnames need to be specified in the correct format. When specifying a hostname, use the receiving server side's rules for SSL certificate hostname format when specifying the server address. The address that a client uses needs to match up with the server's SSL certificate host identity field ((example: pint21.bea.com on both server/client side, not just pint21 and other pint21.bea.com)
Using the 'keytool' Java utility, verify the content of hostname identity embedded in the demo SSL certificate
$ keytool -list -v -alias demoidentity -keystore DemoIdentity.jks
Owner: CN=pisol18, OU=FOR TESTING ONLY, O=MyOrganization, L=MyTown, ST=MyState, C=US
- Config Data Source (conn pool) to Any DB Type you like, test them and run the DB scripts if applicable (Run DB).
3. Create Managed Server template Using Pack/Unpack tool
3.1 Using <WL_HOME>\common\bin\pack.cmd with ?managed option create managed server template.
3.2 Using <WL_HOME>\common\bin\unpack.cmd on M2 to create the domain on Host2
4. Starting the Admin Server
5. Start the Managed server in many way. As given on edocs.
http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs92/ConsoleHelp/taskhelp/clusters/StartOrStopAServer.html
I hope this helps you,
Thanks
Viswa

• SPARC10 not booting after 2.5.1 Recommended Patch Cluster Install

Hi everyone,
Just finished installing the "latest" patch cluster on my ancient SPARC10, and now it doesn't boot. Here's what I see:
ok boot /iommu/sbus/espdma@f,400000/esp@f,800000/sd@0,0
screen not found.
Can't open input device.
Keyboard not present. Using tty for input and output.
SPARCstation 10 (1 X 390Z55), No Keyboard
ROM Rev. 2.25, 112 MB memory installed, Serial #6332710.
Ethernet address 8:0:20:12:7f:99, Host ID: 7260a126.
Rebooting with command: /iommu/sbus/espdma@f,400000/esp@f,800000/sd@0,0
Boot device: /iommu/sbus/espdma@f,400000/esp@f,800000/sd@0,0 File and args:

ok
At first I thought I had a RAM problem. I've swapped RAM, but that didn't make it boot. I then thought I had a system board problem. I've swapped that as well, and still no dice. I wish I'd have kept the list of patches that successfully installed like my gut told me to, but I didn't. Searching Google and the Sun websites didn't turn up any fixes to the problem, so I'm hoping I can find help here.
Did the patches clobber something the machine needs to boot? I believe the OS disks are mirrored, and I've tried booting off each submirror, but the result is the same.
If I can avoid booting off of CD-ROM, that would be ideal since I don't have an external CD-ROM available to boot from.
Thanks for any help!

Ouch !
Haven't seen that one in years !
It's your choice of that ancient Operating Environment, combined with a cpu faster than 419MHz.
I hope you still have the extra OECD disk that was packed with that system when it was first shipped from Sun.
Otherwise you may just be out of luck with using Solaris 2.5.1
Here's a link at a non-Sun 3rd party web site to SRDB document *20576*
http://www.sunshack.org/data/sh/2.1/infoserver.central/data/syshbk/collections/intsrdb/20576.html
Perhaps MAAL and haroldb can contribute their thoughts on this.

• SQL 2012 Cluster install - error msg

Hi
I am in the process of installing SQL server 2012 cluster, on the Instance configuration page where i gave "SQL Server Network Name" as "appsqlclsA" and the "Named Instance" as "Ins01". I am getting the below
error msg, i am not sure exactly what permissions i need.
"The SQL Server failover cluster network name "appsqlclsA" is not valid. The name must be a valid DNS and Wins name.
So what i understand is i do not have permission to create the virtual sql name account "appsqlclsA"" in the AD.
But i need help finding exactly what permission i need.
Thank you for your help

Take a look at this
TechNet article for assigning permissions in Active Directory to create the virtual computer object. Either you are granted the appropriate permissions or the virtual computer object be pre-staged prior to installation
