In a motion Control System, What is a following error?

I am trying to understand what a "Following Error" is. I get the error number 70150 which is called a following error. When trying to execute the find home VI in the NI library

The following error only occurs in closed loop systems. It is simply the difference, in counts, between the commanded trajectory position and the actual feedback position. A good way to characterize your following error is to go into the Advanced menu of the 1-D Interactive portion of MAX, run your motors at a very low velocty (1 rpm), and watch the Following Error indicator. If it is increasing slow and steady, then you probably have the encoder resolution wrong. If it jumps up in spurts, then the encoder may be damaged. If it is increasing very fast, then either the encdoder isn't plugged in, the encoder isn't working at all, or the encoder is plugged in backwards.

I was getting the same behavior after Apple support had me delete some plist files to get Airplay going. I was also getting the following error:
the error occurred while processing a command of type 'writesettings' in the plug-in 'server vpn'
I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and /Library/Preferences/ and deleted every plist contating the word server. I had to re-set up my server (meaning walk through some intial steps) but all of my settings were still there after that and everything started working again.
Just a thought, obviously try at your own risk but it worked for me.

Knitting machines motion control system

Hi,
My question is related to the Textile industry application. We are working on a servo mechanism of a knitting machine for textile industry. Is there anybody can help me in giving some of the similar applications tailor made using NI motion platforms? Typical motor parameters are enclosed. We need to workout a miniaturized motion solution which is a part of knitting machine. This knitting machine is responsible in identifying any broken strings.

could you please provide some information about the typical motion control tasks, that are required for your application? How many axes are involved? What type of synchronisation do you need (vector spaces, camming, gearing,...)? How fast do your axes move?
Do you have experience with NI products like LabVIEW, NI-SoftMotion and cRIO?
I don't have any experience with knitting machines, but I have a decent level of motion control related project experience. So if you could help me to better understand your application's requirements and your individual backgroudn with NI products, this will help me to give you better advice.

I am using 7340 motion control card. what i am doing is ,first of all i initialise my 7340 card by MAX and then through motion assistant i am making a 1-d motion for my steeper motor using drive MID-7604/7602.

then i generate the labview code from there,,,,,,,,what is happening in labview is i am able to run the motor but to stop the motor by using stop button there or by using a while to stop the motor...it is not responding i have to go back to motion assistant to stop the motor...............can any body suggest me what to do ,,,is there any problem in my softwares settings..................???????

You have mentioned that you are using motion assistant to generate the code. Do you run the LabVIEW VI that it has generated or are you directly running it from Motion assistant?

Trying to system software but get following error message "The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.)(-1012)

I have a new Time capsule that has been working ok for the last coouple of months, no problem. I'm now getting the following message when it tries to backup.

Hi,
Since 6 months I have HP Pavilion dv6 3180ec, running Win7 64-bit.
Recently the notebook restarted itself several times during last couple of days with a hard disk failure message (blue screen); after restart, a Hard disk diagnosis was requested however never properly started... So I run the test from BIOS and got following error message:
Hard disk test failed
Failure ID: 9CW77A-5KM5T8-XD002K-60S903
(interesting is that the SMART test passed successfully)
Does anybody knows, how severe the failure is? Is the change of HDD necessary? I would like to avoid the situation to send it to HP customer service for warranty check and have no notebook for a month, as the guys will not experience the same problem (actually even I am now writing the post on that notebook - and without any restart...)

Hi,
If not a SMART error, this will either be a failure of the short or long Disk Self Test and really would indicate the drive should be replaced. There is no need to have to send the notebook in, as if you contact HP to arrange for a new HDD to be supplied to you under warranty, the drive will be sent out to you - you normally have to pay a deposit which is refunded when you return the defective HDD.

What kind of equipment do i need for motion control

i'm new to computerized actuators, i need to control a stepper motor that can turn both directions and can be controlled by a 0-5 volt sensor. i need to be able to set the targeted volts and have it turn one direction if its reading over, and the other direction if its reading under. What should i buy.

Prepare Funds Management Installation
When implementing the Funds Management Government component, you should take care to carry out the individual steps in a particular order. You enter the required preconfigurations and functions at different points in the SAP System.
So when implementing Funds Management, you should observe the following sequence:
1. You use the "Enterprise Structure" to create company codes, FM areas, and controlling areas. For more information, see the Enterprise structure IMG in sections:
a) "Define, Copy, Delete, Check Company Code"
b) "Maintain FM Area"
c) "Define, Copy, Delete, Check Controlling Area"
2. You then assign an FM area to each company code and controlling area relevant to Funds Management.
For more information, see sections:
a) Assign company code to FM area
b) Assign controlling area to FM area
3. You create your G/L accounts in the General Ledger Accounting menu. For more information, read the chapter: Create G/L accounts in the G/L accounting IMG (FI-GL) under G/L account master records.
4. Use Financial Accounting customizing to maintain the field status definition groups. These determine which fields in the account can accept input, must be maintained, or are hidden, when you are entering business transactions. Simple straight line motion control with brushless motor and encoder/microswitch

I want to go build a motion control system/program using labview. I have a brushless motor and a controller and a National instrument DAC (NI USB-6009). This is how my system looks like: receive an input signal 4-20mA, this should be converted to 0-5V for the controller for speed, controller should move motor till it hits micro switch. The micro switch/encoder should generate a signal (5V) back to shut the controller. I want to record the position of the motor in labview. How do I do this? How do I set the system up? Thank you in advance

Controller and motor go together.
The input signal for the system will be 4-20mA. Using this signal I will correlate it to a specific voltage which will drive the speed of the motor. This will displace the lead screw linearly. I will have a microswitch that will be triggered by screw and will relay a signal to shut the motor. I want find a way to record the position of the shaft/leadscrew at that specific point. I want to identify a home position, halfway position and full length travel position. I will use 3 swiches or 1 switch in three positions to identify all these points.
My end result should be whwn I turn on the system or start the program It should detect whether it is at the home position, if not travel to home then respond accordigly given an input signal(4-20mA).
How will I program such on labview...finding all the right icons to record the data is such a mess for me since i'm a beginner.

Is it possible to condition a load cell signal with a 1520 SCXI and then use it as the primary analog feedback for a 735X motion control board?

My objective:
I want to measure the force on the load cells with the 1520 SCXI (i.e. excite the load cell then amplify and condition its output) then I want to use this analog (force) signal as the primary feedback for my motion control system (7356 and 7354 motion controller connected to my drives and motors).
The problem:
The motion controller boards (7356 and 7354) can be configured for force feedback control via analog feedback from a load cell. However the boards implicitly expect the load cell signal to be amplified and conditioned with and external signal conditioner rather then using an NI SCXI module. Currently I’m am reading the SCXI signals via the 6259 M seriers DAQ and consequentially have no way to route the signal into the 735X boards for force feedback control. I can use softmotion to control the motors but then I loose the fast PID update rates possible with the 735X boards.
The question:
Is it possible to condition a load cell signal with a 1520 SCXI and then use it as the primary analog feedback for a 735X motion control board?

True a few op-amps could amplify and filter the signal externally but the performance of such an amateur built system will never match the accuracy and functionality of the 1520 SCXI. That’s why we spent the $2500 for the professional version.

As I understand it the UMI is basically a break out connectivity interface for third party drives. After conditioning and amplifying the analog force signal with the SCXI module the analog signal isn’t available to wire into a UMI. To my knowledge the conditioned signal of the SCXI resides only in the PXI backplane (i.e. there is no physical access to the conditioned analog signal). Can you explain how the UMI could be help here.
