How do I make a group in address book?

File>New Group.
Also you can clight the "+" button at the bottom of the "Group" column.
Once the group is created simply drag the desired contacts into it.
Lastly you can highlight multiple contacts and THEN click File>New Group from selection" and it will ask you to title it.

Hi,
I like having my cards organized in lists and I always browse contacts by lists. However, when creating a contact on my iPhone, I often forget to create it in the right list or I simply create it in All Contacts.
I would like to create a smart group that shows all the contacts that are not in a list.
It looks like there is an option for this:
New Smart Group
Card ... is not member of ... any group
But that just shows nobody ...
It seems like "any group" also includes All Contacts. And if that's the case, I would suggest to Apple to remove it from the "any group" definition. Because I don't see any use of this category if that's the case.
If you have another way of doing it, please share !

You’re going to have a very big problem and very soon. These missing pics are the beginning of trouble.
the total size of all my folders on my 60gb internal drive is 46.5 gb, yet only 1.9 gb is available,
OS X needs about 10 gigs of free space on the hard drive for normal OS operations such as virtual memory and temporary files. Without this space the machine slows down as the OS hunts for free space, files become fragmented and applications begin to crash. The risk of data corruption increases exponentially.
You must, as a matter of urgency, make space on the drive. I cannot stress this enough.
You may be able to recover the pics from your camera card using an app such as MediaRecover

I don't want to have to check off an additional 5 or 6 attributes each time I print out contact information. Is there a way to change the default setting for printing lists, so it is not just "phone," "photo," and "job title?"

I have a user who wants to do this same thing. I did not find any way either to default the attributes to anything other than what you see the first time. Seems like such a trivial thing, hard to believe they do not allow it. I did find a program for this called iDress but I can't seem to download it from any links on the Internet. Not sure if it is free or not, but it was recommended by a link on the Mac support site.

I used to be able to print multiple copies of the same picture on one page using iphoto. There was a customise button when you went through to print and it was there somewhere. I can't see it anymore - maybe since an upgrade.
It's gone. But as a work-around, duplicate your photo (⌘D) to create as many versions as you want copies and select all at once. Then use the "Custom" print layout and set the photo size you want.
After printing, trash the added versions.

In Address Book, how can i modify several contacts (several cards) at the same time ?
for exemple : I have 100 contact which live in Paris, I select all of them together, but when I put "Paris" in the field "city", it puts "Paris" only in the fisrt contact !
how to edit several contact at a time ?
And I would like to put some kind of "tags", or words, in "remark", also by selecting several contact and edit them together...

Just using Address Book this can't be done, but if you are prepared to try a little Applescript it is easy. This script will set the city for example - but only if there is already an address.

They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

How do I make Smart Groups in Address Book in iCloud?

I have Smart Groups in my Address Book on my iMac but they don't appear in iCloud. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

In Address Book, how do you create a new group under "On my Mac", not under "iCloud"?

In Address Book there are groups under "On my Mac" and groups under "iCloud". When I do File -> "Create new group", the new group always goes under "iCloud". How can I make a new group to go under "On my Mac". I also tried dragging the new group from the iCloud area to the "On my Mac" area, but that doesn't do it. Address Book is version 6.1.3. Maybe look in the Preferences > Accounts & disable the iCloud account? That should force it to create a local group then re-enable the iCloud account. I would use the 'File > Export… Addressbook archive' to make a backup before you begin, but it should be fine.
I'm not sure 10.6.8 supported iCloud natively, so perhaps that is why it is being wierd?

Completely maddening thing that address book - and no other app I have ever encountered does, as you are typing information into the notes field of a contact, it will suddenly jump the cursor up to the start of the page, often leaving one word half finished and adding onto the front of some other bit of information is a totally crazy way.
I use three Macs, all of them do it. Has anyone else encountered this?
It seems to be since the ghastly faux leather Lion address book has been introduced, ( I assume Mr Jobs had nothing to do with that )
Any ideas on how to prevent it happening? Im not a touch typist, so I have to keep looking at the kbd, then I wont realise until half way through a sentence it has decided to split it in half and put some of it at the top of the page. Crazy.

At times when I am editing a page in Address Book, the cursor wanders, so the text I am typing shows up in the wrong place. Often it deletes exist text. Why does this happen? How can I prevent it?

Does this only happen in the Address Book or does it do this all the time and causes only issues in the Address Book?

I have a Galaxy S2, gmail account, hotmail account and want to know the best way to be able to sync calendar and contacts from the Galaxy S2 with iCal and Address Book. I want to be able to make changes on any device and be able to sync the changes. Hotmail is my main email account and would prefer to use tha account but I know that the Galaxy prefers Google. Any ideas?

You have several ways to sync your phone to a mac.
You can use Samsung Kies for mac. You can download it here.
You can also use Google for it. Open Adress Book, click Adress Book on the left top of the screen, click Prefferences and open the Accounts tab. You'll see a "Synchronize with Google" checkbox, click it, enter you mail and password and you are good to go.
On iCal go to Preferences (top left, click iCal to see it), open the Accounts Tab, you'll see a blank list on the left, at the bottom of it there is a "+" sign, click on it and select Google on the Account Type dropdown list, enter your account details and you are done.
Third way to do it is by using third party software such as SyncMate.
Hope any of these alternatives solve your problem!
(The iCal and Address Book instructions are for Snow Leopard, but it should be almost the same on Lion)

Under Card in the Menu bar, select Look for Duplicates. After it finds the dupes it will ask if you want to merge I suggest you select this option.

Address Book - how do I remove image when printing labels?

Just getting ready to print the Xmas card labels - thought i'd add an image in the Address Book 'Print' Dialogue - then changed my mind!!!
Big mistake - there appears to be no (easy / obvious) way to remove the image!!!

I never could figure out how to do this via the GUI and had to resort to a bit of "trickery". i.e.:
- quit the Address Book application.
- in Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences and double click
on com.apple.AddressBook.plist ( or just type
"open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
in a Terminal window
- in the property list editor, delete the value for
"ABImagePath" , which is under "0" in "ABCustomEnvelopeDefinitions"
- save the file
- quit the Property List Editor
- start Address Book
