In airport utililty I am unable to select my base station so I can edit it for security

I have an OS X 10.9.4 laptop and a 6.3.2 airport utility.  My wifi is not secured with a lock.  When I access airport utility to select the airport to edit it, I am not able to select it. I have an Airport Express. Instead a message reads "This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station.  Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information."  Going to Service and Support has not helped.

Unfortunately, Apple dropped support of the older (8+ years) AirPort routers in OS X 10.9.4 and AirPort Utility 6.3.2.
It will take a 5.x version of AirPort Utility to be able to administer the older AirPort, which means that you will need.....or be able to borrow for 10-15 minutes......a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or a PC with AirPort Utility installed to setup the older AirPort.

  • "Airport was unable to find your base station after restarting"

Trying to connect AX to my HP printer for wireless printing. Walk through the process of joining my wireless network, everything appears to work (finds my base station, finds my wireless network). When I finish the final step, macbook appears to hang but then comes back with this error message "Airport was unable to find your base station after restarting"..."problem rejoining the wireless network or finding the base station". I then go into Airport Utility again and base station is gone. I have to reset AX to factory setting (removing any profiles) before Utility recognizes AX again. I repeat process...same results, ugh. Any help would be appreciated.

I updated to 7.3.1, and just wasted 3 hours getting my Airport Express working again. What a nightmare.
Flashing amber light after update to 7.3.1 and not found by Airport Utility. Hard reset allows Airport Utility to find it, but after configuration never found again and get flashing amber light, until hard reset again...
Here are the steps that worked for me to get back to 7.3. and functional Airport Express.
    1) I had ethernet connected, I was unclear whether ethernet doing anything but desperate. Performing reset from MacBook with airport on.
    2) Hard reset on Airport Express so that Airport Utility can find it. (i.e. press reset button for 5-10 seconds until light flashes amber 4 times. The factory reset did not seem to work.)
    3) Cross fingers that Airport Express shows up in Airport Utility. (Did most times for me, but not always.)
    4) Hold down Option key and select Check for Updates from Airport Utility application menu. This allows selecting old updates.
    5) Download 7.3.
    6) Click Manual Setup (for the Airport Express)
    7) Select Upload Firmware from the Base Station menu
    8) Select 7.3, apply, cross fingers
After applying 7.3 may need to do one more hard reset, I am not sure if it showed up again on its own. However, once available in Airport Utility and once again with the 7.3 firmware, was able to configure and get working again as normal.

  • On Windows XP: AirPort Utility was unable to find any base stations

hi, I've been using AirPort Extreme for at least a year to connect both my eMac and my Lenovo Thinkpad which uses Windows XP. yesterday my Thinkpad was infected with a virus and I went through a lengthy remote session with Norton Antivirus tech people to get rid of it today. Sometime in the middle of the session the Thinkpad stopped being able to connect to the AE wireless network. I got back on the internet by plugging the Thinkpad directly into the router.
Now on the AE utility it says "unable to find any base stations." so far I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the AE utility and unplugging and restarting the AE base station. On my eMac everything seems to be fine.
    Please help!

Thanks for your instructions. Basically the same results happened. Is there something else I should be doing on the PC notebook end to connect? The AirPort Utility on my PC still doesn't see any base stations. So using the Access Connections setup the only way I could see to connect with a password was what I described in the previous post. Access Connections sees my network, but fails to connect to it.
Just to be clear, there hasn't been any problem with my notebook seeing the network. For a long time until recently it was seen by the AirPort Utility on the PC. When Access Connections fails to connect it asks if I want to configure the network and there's a bunch of settings. Connection type: infrastructure or Adhoc, Wireless security type "use static WEP keys", "Use Wi-Fi protected Access - Pre Shared Key (WPA-PSK)" - that seems to be the right one, so I choose it and under Properties there's more options. Access point authentication, WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK; I've tried it both ways. Data encryption: TKIP or AES, I've been using TKIP. Under Pre-Shared Key, there's the only box I see to enter a password (see previous post).

    1. Because if you could, someone who breaks into your account could do it as well.
    2. You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

After updating my Time Capsule, I received this message on my  Airport Express: This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station." How can I fix this?

Per chance is your AirPort Express an 802.11g model? If so, you will need to use AirPort Utility v5.6 to administer it. However, this version will not install under OS X Mountain Lion without a workaround.
The following is one of those workarounds:
Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

My airport express is 10 years old and I get the message that this version of airport utility (6.2) doesn't support my base station? What to do?

    What to do?
    Two Options:
    1) Buy a new AirPort Express, which will be supported.
    2) Try a workaround....not supported by Apple.....to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on the Mac using the Mountain Lion operating system and use the 5.6 application to administer the old AirPort Express.  See this thread for more details:

  • After downloading firmware for airport utility, airport express base station no longer registers with airport utility on my Mac. Now the base station is blinking amber with no info of what is causing all this to happen. Any suggestions?

After downloading firmware for airport utility last night, airport express base station was deleted from airport utility and only Time Capsule remains. When I plug in the base station, an amber light blinks without being able to verify the cause. Any suggestions to remedy this problem?

There are only a couple of things you can do to resuscitate a nonresponsive Express:
    "Hard reset":
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil until you see the status light (LED) start to flash amber rapidly, which should occur after about five seconds.
    If that does not work,
    "Factory defaults reset":
    Unplug the Express from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the Express back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
    Release the button.
In either case you will have to reconfigure the Express as a new device. A moment or two after it has been reset, the LED should be blinking slowly. It must then appear in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Earlier versions of OS X will report it as "Apple Network nnnnnn".
In either case, select it, and then launch AirPort Utility.
If it does no appear in your Wi-Fi menu after it has been reset using one of the two techniques above, it is defective. Other than attempting another reset, there is nothing you can do.

  • Windows 2000 laptop seems unable to locate extreme base station?

I've bought a new Imac and extreme base station - i've wired my cable internet through the Wan port into the Extreme and then through a cable into the Imac and this works fine but despite the fact that my extreme base station has been configured and the green light is showing, my IBM thinkpad (running windows 2000) is unable to locate it? It can find other Wifi networks in the area which suggests it is working? Any ideas? I have changed the wireless security to WEP but still no joy? Thanks Paul

Hello PaulWilliams...Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
First, try temporarily disabling WEP (or any) encryption on the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), and then try accessing the Internet wirelessly with your Windows 2000 laptop.
If successful, I'd suggest using WPA or WPA2, instead of WEP, for your wireless security...assuming that your Windows 2000 laptop supports these. If you must use WEP, then you will need to provide the "Equivalent Network Password" to the laptop in order for it to connect wirelessly.

  • Unable to set up base station as wireless client

I have a network with one Airport Extreme (UFO-shape) and three Airport Express base stations. Now I had to do a hard reset of all the base stations, and want to use Airport utility to set up the network again.
I have no problems setting up the Airport extreme as the main base station, and the first Airport express as a remote base station (extending the network). I want to set up the other two Airport Express stations as wireless clients (I only use them for iTunes via Airtunes).
My problem is that when I reach the point where I can choose between setting them up to either extend the network or as a wireless client, I am not able to proceed if I choose the latter (nothing happens when I press "continue"). I can only go through the setup process if I choose the Airport Express to be an extension of the network (a remote base station).
For one of the Airport express, I then later manually changed the setup from "be a part of a WDS network" to "connect to a wireless network". But when I try this for the last Airport Express, I am no longer able to contact the base station if I try to do the same. I have chosen channel 11 for the network, and I think in some way or another, after I manually change the settings for the last Airport express, it switches to another channel. After this I can no longer read the base station configuration or connect to it via airtunes.
When I do a hard reset again, and go through the process once more, everything is OK as long as I keep it as a remote base station. But I really would like it to be connected as a wireless client
    Any ideas?

The basic wiring setup would include connecting an Ethernet cable from one of the available LAN <-> Ethernet ports to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.
You can run an Ethernet cable up to 100 meters or 300+ feet so the trick will be locate the Time Capsule in the middle of the area where you need more wireless signal coverage.
To have the Time Capsule "extend" the wireless from the gateway, you would need to configure it to create a new wireless network using the same wireless network name, same wireless security setting and same password as the gateway's wireless network.
The final configuration step would be to make sure that the Time Capsule is setup to operate in Bridge Mode, so that it will function as a client for the gateway router.
The specifics of how to do this will depend on the version of AirPort Utility that you are using on your Mac. Post back if you need more details on this.

  • HELP PowerPC G4 OS 10.3.9 Unable to connect to base station after updates

OK...I have read many topics that seem to be related, but after trying all of the suggestions I could find, nothing is working....PLEASE HELP:)
I have a PowerPC G4 running OS 10.3.9 I completed the suggested software updates, and now I can not connect to the internet wirelessly. I keep getting the error message that my password is incorrect. This is not the case.
The software updates that I ran were for iTunes, Java, Airport(probably the problem) and security updates.
The current version of airport utility I am running is 4.2 is there anywhere I can download an older version? My wireless connection worked just fine before I updated.
Please, this is driving me CRAZY! If anyone has any ideas please post.

    Hi,
We are running like units, with the same airport version 4.2.
Have you checked in "Keychain Access" for the password it is looking for? After updating mine once (a while back), the system reverted to the first one I had (but had changed since then).
To get to Keychain Access, us Finder and put Keychain Access in the upper right search box. When you get in, scroll down to the name of the network and click "Attributes". There in the lower left is "Show Password"... check it. It will now ask for your Admin/Keychain password (which will be the same if you have NOT made a separate Keychain password). Allow Once below the password entry. The password it wants will be below the box you checked to show it.
If you have changed it or have more then one by that name, it may be time to delete the older version(s) so keychain only has one to look for, not 2 or 3 like I had. If there is more then one, try all the passwords but remember MAC OX tunes out after some 3 tries, you will have to shut down and restart to get 3 more tries. Careful with deleting any till you find the right one, or the one it wants.
If these do not do the trick, let us know and we will try some other things...
    Enjoy

I just got Quest service and also Airport express. I hooked it up to my Quest internet modem and Airport Express has a steady green light. That means it is receiving a internet signal right? • Airport Express Network won't play music from Base Station and remote spkrs

Is there any way i can hook up speakers to the base statino and the remote speakers? I am getting a message that says the base station is not configured to play music as part of the group. it says I can play music from base station, but not simultaneously with the living room speakers which i have set up on a repeater airport express.
    Thanks,
    PW

Well, I can choose multiple speakers, "living room" and "computer," and they play out of both, but it will not play from multiple speakers if I include the base station, which is hooked up to speakers in my office. The base station will only play if I choose it exclusively, and I wondered if there was something i needed to do to configure the base station to enable it to play as well.
