In and out markers missing in QT Pro?

I've just bought QT Pro 7 and want to edit a movie into separate clips. I can see a timeline indicator but no in and out markers for selecting certain sections of the movie. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Carol

Quicktime Pro can't edit MPEG-1 or 2 videos. You need something like MPEG-Streamclip a free program to be able to edit these type of videos.

  • Can't get in and out markers to work

In Pro 7, I can't find the In and Out markers on some clips I've downloaded off Limewire. When I go File:New audio and record blank noise for a few seconds, the markers appear. How can I get the markers and trim down my Limewire clips? Thanks

I've seen a few times in the past what you are talking about. But, the in and out sections would fade in and out.
Try doing a save as to the movie and see if this makes the player a little more stable,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • In and out markers

Is it just me or is the online help manual not always that helpful?  When splittling clips in says to insert in and out markers but it does not really tell you how.
I found them in the clip drop down menu but they are grayed out.  I want to be able to add back a few frames if needed when editing a video.  I used to use pinacle studio and you could just drag the end of any clip to restore frames.

There are several ways to add In & Out Points (not ever heard them called "markers") in a Clip.
One way is to Dbl-click on the Clip in the Project Panel. This will Open the Clip in the Source Monitor. There, you can use the In & Out Poiints (maybe these are the "markers" referred to), in the Source Monitor. When done, drag the Clip from the Source Monitor to the Timeline. This creates an Instance of that Clip. You can have unlimited Instances, and they can all have different In & Out Ponts.
Another way to do this is to drag the Clip from the Project Panel to the Timeline. At the Head of the Clip, click-drag to set the In Point. Now, click-drag on the Tail, to set the Out Point.
A variation of the above is to drag the Clip to the Timeline, then use the Scissors/Razor Tool (or Ctrl-K, with the CTI where you want to Cut) to Cut the Clip. Separate it, as is required. Then Rt-click on all sections to be removed, and choose Delete and Close Gaps.
Remember, your original AV file is NOT harmed, or changed in any way. You are only writing instructions to the Project file, PREL, telling it what to do, when you go to output the Timeline. Don't worry about "cutting" Frames out, as they are not really gone. You can click-drag on a Head, or Tail, to get them back again.
Now, when setting In & Out Points, if you are using Transitions, see this ARTICLE, as you WILL want to leave adequate Handles.
    Good luck, and happy editing,

  • In and Out Markers CS6?

Am I correct in my observation that In and Out markers do not show in the Source Monitor as they did previously in CS5.5 ie as a selection.?
This may take a bit of getting used to if so.

Transport Controls were showing and I also tried with the Time Scale showing as well.
What ever... it works now and I am happy.
Just got a bit of a fright initially

  • Setting in and out markers for capturing.

i am learning final cut pro, and have also purchased a new camera. I was under the impression that a tape based camera goes through wear on the heads the more you use it... having said that i just finished chapter eight of capturing video in final cut pro, and am under the impression that i have to watch the video, set my in and out point/ set markers to select the footage to be used, and then it has to play the footage again to capture it?..... so your camera is always going to have to go through the wear of recording original footage, rewind footage...play footage to mark in and out points, and the a third time to capture is this correct? also are a lot of people using these expensive formatting devices that you plug into your camera so when you record your original footage it records on the tape and on this device so you can access the device and not put so much wear on the camcorders tape heads?

sounds like you are very efficient in your work.
You have to be if you want to get anything done in a timely manner, and if you want to be able to find footage quickly.
I thought that i should do that after the fact, but then i thought that in cases of collecting a lot of rough footage that there may be a several areas of footage you dont want to use that you are asking the camera to play when it doesnt need to.
Exactly why logging your footage is so important. Not only do you see what you have, but you can make sure you don't capture stuff you don't want or don't need, and that saves tons of space. Plus the mere fact you are logging, capturing and organizing your footage means that you are getting more familiar with what you have. This is of MAJOR importance to an editor.
I am going to be doing this for a living
Then learning good editing habits early on is a must.

  • In and Out Markers Have Disappeared from Interface

I just bought QT Pro and registered. The in and out selection markers were present and I could use them. After several minutes, they disappeared from the interface. Since then I've restarted QT several times, even restarted the computer. I've deleted the registration info from QT, quit it, restarted it, and reinserted the info. I've tried other movies--still no markers. I've checked and unchecked the box in Preferences pertaining to the selection markers--makes no difference. All the other features of Pro seem to be available--cutting, pasting, saving, etc., but the selection markers simply are not there. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The in and out selection markers were present and I could use them. After several minutes, they disappeared from the interface.
Selection markers are active only when edit-compatible files are loaded. With an edit-compatible file loaded, hovering the cursor over the progress bar should cause the markers to appear. They will the disappear if/when you move the cursor away from the progress bar unless you actually make a selection. Pressing the Command-B key combination will collapse an active marked selection at the current playhead location and allow the markers to disappear again. Are you saying that the markers will not appear when you hover the cursor over the progress bar?

  • Why am I not able to mark "in" and "out" points in Final Cut Pro 6?

I have a bunch of old tapes that I am trying to put on my computer.  I have Final Cut Pro 6 and everything hooks up nicely except I am not able to mark in and out points or use capture now.  Does anyone out there know why that would be the case?
I appreciate any help I can get.

What VTR? How is it controlled?
What are your capture settings? Firewire Protocol?

  • DVDSP - End Jump to Menu 1 and Chapters Markers from Final Cut Pro 5.0.4

I went to the Final Cut Forum and they sent me here:
    Final Cut 5.0.4
    DVD Studio Pro 4
I got to the point where I set the end jump back to Menu 1 for each of the two films listed with buttons on Menu 1 of my DVD.
One film has no chapter markers and the other has 4 chapters that I set up in Final Cut Pro, edited as Chapters and Saved for DVD Studio Pro when exporting the Quick Time. This functionality is great and very nice. At the end one does return to the (main menu) from both short films.
What I found, as stated in the manual, was the first chapter marker is automatically put in by DVD Studio Pro. On the film with 4 chapters by depressing the button on the remote one can skip ahead. When on reaches the 4th chapter one does not have a 5th marker for the end and one has to watch the 4th chapter to reach the end and then go back to the main menu. What I was trying to put in was a 5th chapter marker, or a marker at the end of each film where if one wanted to go back to the Main Menu before the film time had elapsed, one could hit the chapter ahead button and reach the end of the film, and be returned to the Main Menu.
When I put in end markers in DVD Studio Pro, the build stops stating there is a GOP boundry problem. After reading the manual I went back to end chapter markers in Final Cut, but these do not come through. I tried more than one second from the end of the movie but this does not seem to be the answer.
thanks in advance for your help.
    Bill

Yes, the end marker is the solution, and it does need to be a certain distance from the end of the media. If placing markers in FCP, I put it 1:03 from the end. If you need to you can extend the FCP sequence, or even the track in DVDSP with a little black. In DVDSP, if I don't have an embedded end marker in my asset, I use the little "clicker" arrows next to the time fields in the marker inspector to move the marker two GOPs or "clicks" from the very end of the asset or track.
    Hope this helps -

  • In and Out markers gone in viewer

I am running leopard and have FCP studio. For some reason when I put in and out points on a clip in the viewer I can't see them anymore. They show up in the scrubber bar below the video but for some reason they are gone in the viewer video. I want them back. Please help!

    Jerry,
Verify that you have "Show Overlays" enabled. Look in the View Pop-up menu, which is located in the upper center portion of the viewer, there's a button there that looks like a broken square.
The default keyboard shortcut for toggling overlays is ControlOptionW.

  • In and Out selection

    Hi
I´m trying to cut something in a movie with Quicktime 7.4 pro!
I have read in the support i have to mark the "In and Out selection"
    _+*QuickTime Category Icon*+_
    _+*Cutting, Copying, or Deleting a Section of a Movie*+_
+*Selecting and moving, copying, or deleting (trimming) part of a movie is easy in QuickTime Pro.*+
+*To cut, copy, or delete part of a movie:*+
+*1. Move the playhead until the desired frame appears, or select the part of the movie you want to modify (use the In and Out selection markers and the arrow keys).*+
+*2. Choose Edit > Copy, Cut, or Delete.*+
+*If you choose Copy or Cut, you can paste the selection elsewhere.*+
+*3. Position the playhead where you want to paste the selection and choose Edit > Paste.*+
+*QuickTime Pro inserts the selection you pasted at the position of the playhead.*+
+*You can also delete all parts of a movie that are not selected by choosing Edit > "Trim to Selection."*+
+*Note: After you delete parts of a movie, the file size stays the same until you choose File > Save As and select "Save as a self-contained movie."*+
But i can´t find out to set this "In and Out selection" someone help me? I feel so stupid

This is one of the few things that actually got a lot better in QT Pro 7...
In the controller at the bottom of the QuickTime movie window, above the controls and below the picture, there is a kind of a timeline. On top of that there is a downward-pointing triangle. That is your "playhead indicator" and it represents your current location in the movie. Under the timeline are two smaller triangles. In QT-6.5, they are upward-pointing triangles; in QT-7 it looks like two half-triangles with feet, pointing upward. Those are your in and out markers. By sliding those along the timeline you can select a section of the movie for editing. The OUT marker is ALWAYS to the right of the IN marker.
In QT-7 you can also set the in and out locations by moving the playhead to the frame you want to mark and hitting "I" or "O" on the keyboard. If you attempt to set an out point to the left of the in point, or an in point to the right of the out point, QuickTime will automatically reset the other edit point to the same frame.

  • Revealing "In" and "Out" selection indicators in Quicktime 7 after Snow Leopard Upgrade

When I upgraded to snow leopard, I used quicktime 10 for a while.  But recently I wanted to edit a long movie, and trimming sections out of the middle was unworkable.
I found the Quicktime 7 program in my Utilities folder (I guess it was put there during the upgrade process).  I reinstalled my Quicktime Pro registration.
But when I opened the movie, I couldn't find the "In" and "Out" markers to select the sections I wanted to cut.  Trolling the web for answers didn't help.  Typing "I" and "O" didn't help.
Finally I looked through the Preferences Pane for the third time.  The item "Hide selection indicators for empty selection" was NOT selected.  Yet the selection indicators remained hidden.
So I selected that choice, to hide them.  Closed the program.  Opened it again (they remained hidden).  Then I UN-selected it and voila!  The selection indicators appeared, and have remained present ever since.
    Hunhhh.

  • Razor at In and Out marks together

    Hi,
Is there a shortcut/cmd to razor both in and out markers together (in one operation)?
I have a few frames of a clip that I'd like to pull the volume levels down on. I've added the In and Out markers as I would do to extract, but I want to leave the subsequent clip intact.  Is there a faster (better) way to achieve this than just using the razor tool to manually click on both In and Out marks?
    Thanks
    John

    Hi Kevin,
Thanks for that.  I guess in that case I can just use Lift and then paste the clip back in.
For anyone else reading you need to hit Shift+I to move the Playhead back to the in point (if it's not already) before using the Lift command, so that the clip is pasted back in the right place...I've just discovered.
    Thanks again Kevin.

  • I can't burn a dvd using any method, Idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when i click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • Macbook Pro speakers fade in and out, speaker to speaker

I have an early 2011 15" Macbook Pro, using Mac OX Mountain Lion 10.8.3
The last few weeks I have noticed my speakers fading in and out. It does it in various players an browsers (youtube, blip.tv, quicktime, etc.,.) I tried this solution, but I cannot find that plist file anywhere on my computer, even after showing hidden files! I tried doing a PRAM reset, no dice.
Is that plist file suppose to be missing? How can I that plist file on my computer? If I have to go to the genius bar, will they have to charge me, or make me replace the laptop for a 'new' one because I do not have AppleCare?
I have only had this mac for a couple of months, and I haven't gotten any liquids on it, nor have I dropped it! Please help!

    Hi Kate...
This has been happening on different players
    Might be corrupted preferences ...
    Go to  /Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.soundpref.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
The Mac OS X will regenerate a new .plist file for you.

  • Logic Pro X Audio cutting in and out

When I am trying to record in Logic Pro X the audio seems to cut in and out at random points.
I have a MP3 track that I am recording to and it just randomly cuts out. Even when just playing that track by itself the same thing happens though never at the same spots. If I open the MP3 in Itunes or Quicktime there is no problem with the track.
As this seriously messes with the time of the piece and makes the recording long and painful I need help.
Is there some type of connection I am missing? I am using an old Presonus Firebox as an Interface, it unfortunately has adaptors to take it from firewire to thunderbolt. Recording into a 27" Imac that is very souped up and shouldn't have any problems until I hit a hundred tracks or so and I am only trying two.

It's most likely the Fusion drive, one of the symptoms is audio cutting out.
There are several related threads in this forum regarding audio problems with the Fusion drive.
This thread alone would take a couple of days to read.
