In and out points resize the time line bar on preview window

when I click O for out point on my preview window it resizes the amount of the clip I am looking at.  It didn't always do this.  Please see video for details:

Hi cornellweb,
Update to Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.5). This should solve your issue.
Thanks,

  • Removing between and in and out point in the timeline

I don't usually post on forums but this has got me quite perplexed:
How do you remove a chunk of media between and in and out point in the FCPX timeline?
It's can't be as hard as it seems to do this task that you have to do all the time. I have a 2 hour 3 camera shoot and I want to remove quite a few 2, 3 minute chucks all through the show. I can't find any way to easily remove these chunks. I know there's no real in and out point in the FCPX timeline anymore but there HAS to be some way to easily remove all the video and audio between two points !!!
I feel really dumb! The answer can't be to make a compound clip as that sure is a pain just to remove something from the timeline. And to blade each individual track means I have to blade at least 8 or 12 things just to remove it!
I have to be missing something. Thanks for any input.

    Thanks Tom.
I'll have between 3 and 6 layers at any point. I've tried command B but the problem with that is it only puts a cut on the primary storyline. It will cut more than that if I select all the layers. By doing that it's like a 5 or 6 step process to delete chunks of media in the timeline. I can't believe there isn't an easier way than that.
But what makes it worse as I have a long piece of audio only media that  is for the whole show. Its a connected clip to the primary storyline. when making edits with command B and then deleting what is between the edits this main audio gets deleted from the edit forward. IT's like this audio becomes a connected clip right after the edit when command B is made. it looks connected to the next clip after the command B but it deletes when I delete the chunk between the command B.
This is so silly that I can't easily delete media from the timeline in this way. It's such a simple thing!

  • Compressor 4 command line -in and -out points

I'm trying to use Compressor 4.1 command line interface to compress various video clips. While I can compress an entire file, start to end, without issue, I can't figure out how to compress a subset of the source file by setting in and out points. The -help information states I can set -in <hh:mm:ss;ff> and -out <hh:mm:ss;ff> parameters except they seem to have no effect as Compressor compresses the full file. Has anyone been able to specify -in and -out parameters successfully? If so, can you please share the appropriate syntax?
FWIW: here is the sytax for command that I've been using to compress 2 seconds of source video:
    /applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/compressor -batchname sampleBatch  -jobpath /Shows/filename_HD.mov -settingpath /Settings/480pProxy.cmprstng  -locationpath /Clips/clipName_HD.mov -in 00:00:04;00  -out 00:00:06;00
    OSX 10.9.2, Compressor 4.1 and Compressor 4.1.1

You have to use quotation marks around the in an out points because of the semi colon.
/Applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/Compressor -batchname "In and Out Example"  -jobpath /Shows/filename_HD.mov -settingpath /Settings/480pProxy.cmprstng  -locationpath /Clips/clipName_HD.mov -in "00:00:04;00"  -out "00:00:06;00"

  • Color is changing the clips in and out points

I tried to import into color a fcp7 sequence.  The original footage are quicktime clips.
When the project opens in color, the in and out points of the clips are not there and it gives me the beginning of the clip.
With other footage that I ingested in FCP I don't have a problem.
Can someone explain this to me.
    Thanks

    >The original footage are quicktime clips.
What FORMAT of Quicktime?  Because QT is just a container that can be one of a dozen codecs.  Color ony works with certain codecs, like ProRes, HDV, XDCAM, DVCPRO HD.  If the codec is anything but those...it will have serious problems.

  • Problem - Title Cards in Vid Track 2 Skewing In and Out Points in Track 1 ?

    Hi,
Vast confusion. I'm working with edits in a timeline, created from video files that are "Avid Meridien Compressed" Quicktime Files. These are files that I exported from Avid. They are 24P files. The timeline has been set to 23.97, and everything in Video Track 1 makes sense, no problems, no render line because the project compression settings have been set to "Avid Meridien Compressed".
Ok, so here's the problem. I am creating title cards with the video generator in FCP, and trying to super them into my edits by placing them into Video Track 2. But the moment I drop a title card into Video Track 2, (over an edit I have made in Video Track 1), there is a SHIFT in the in and out points of the source video in the timeline. For example, let's say an edit in my timeline has a source in of 02:02:30:17 and an out of 02:02:35:17. The moment I try and drop a title card over this edit in Video Track 2, the source video in Track 1 shifts, so it now begins at 02:02:31:29 and ends at 02:02:36:29.
It is as if the title cards refuse to conform to the 23.97 timeline, and are overriding the source video edit decisions in Video Track 1.
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this is occcuring? Does anyone have any suggestions for a remedy? BTW, I have also tried creating title cards in photoshop and dropping them in, but with the same result: it changes the source time code edits by shifting them later into the source video.
    Thanks,
    Mtbakerstu

    Update!
While I was never able to get the Vid Track 2 title cards to stop shifting the edit decisions in Vid Track 1 when using the preset that is in tandem with the actual source video files (Avid Meridien Quicktimes at 23.98), I did find that by changing the Sequence Setting to DV/DVCPRO50 NTSC at 23.98 that I could drop the titles into Vid Track 2 successfully without any skewing of edit decisons. You now have to render the timeline, but a quick test of an MPEG2 export showed that there's no denigration in image quality with using this setting.
So that's the scoop. It seems that there's no pure solution to this issue. Perhaps if there's a way to generate title cards out of Avid that are importable into FCP, that would do the trick, but I haven't taken my research that far.
    Thanks for your help!

  • In and out point feature not working

I am a teacher at a tech school and I teach Premiere Pro CS5.5  I teach my students how to use the in and out points in the source clip monitor and then to select the button to insert or overwrite that section to the time line.  I also teach them how to use the in and out point in the timeline monitor and then to select the button to lift or extract that section from the time line.  For some reason this works for most of the students, but not for all.  I actually had it happen to my project during a demonstration.  Sometimes the action that you wanted on the timeline will not happen.  The playhead may slide over like it worked, but the clip is not there or the extraction never happened.  I check all the other video tracks to try to see if it is on another track, but it is not.  The fact that it works for some students and not others, makes me think that maybe it has to do with the type of video clip they are working with (similar to the mono/stereo/5.1 differences with audio clips).  I have to be missing something.  Help!

You didn't say Mac or Windows, but my experience on Mac is that some features of Pr 5.5.2 just stop working, and can only be brought back by an app relaunch, a reboot, or by trashing the preferences (Hold option down while launching from the Dock.).
But... some of what you describe could also be caused by not selecting the track selectors in the Timeline panel properly.

  • Getting the audio back on a video clip in the time line

    hi all,
    and happy new year!
have deleted the audio from a video clip in the time line and now want it back, how would I get the audio back?
    thanks for your time
    jonyfoz

Put the playhead at the beginning of the clip and press the X key. It should mark in and out point for the clip. Press the F key to match frame back to the same clip. Make sure both video and audio target tracks are set correctly and press F0 to overwrite and edit the clip with audio back into the timeline.

  • In and Out points not showing in source monitor

I've noticed this in the past couple of days: setting in and out points in the source monitor, the indicators don't show in the time ruler.  In other words, even though I set the in and out points, it looks like nothing has been selected.
If I put the clip into the timeline, the in and out points I chose are respected, but they just don't seem to register in the source monitor, so I can't have confidence in what I have selected.
If I open another clip in the source monitor, then go back to the one I was working on, magically the in and out points are there again.  Strange...
At the same time, if I apply audio gain to a clip in the source monitor, it sometimes doesn't "take".  It shows that gain has been added, but there is no change in the sound volume when I play it back in the source monitor.  Again, if I put the clip in the timeline, the volume is as it should be and the waveform reflects this.
So, is there some underlying bug affecting how clips are dealt with in the source monitor?
I'm on the latest version of Premiere CC 7.2.1 on Windows 8

Thanks for these suggestions.  I'll try and answer each one:
Is the Source Monitor zoomed out to show the whole clip? If not, please zoom out to see if the In/Out points are getting painted in the wrong place initially.
    Yes, it is zoomed out.
Do the clips have non-zero start timecode? If so, please try with a clip with zero-based timecode. (If you don't have one handy, you can create one fairly easily by exporting a sequence with start TC of 0;00)
The problem is intermittent and in this project all the clips are DSLR .mov files.  The problem occurs with some of these and not others.
Have you done anything like setting a custom start timecode or interpreting footage to change the frame rate?
I haven't set a custom timecode.  It's true that there is a mix of 24p and 25p clips in the project, but surely this only presents issues in the timeline rather than the source monitor?  In any case, I haven't gone to interpret footage on these clips.
Is this happening with all types of project items, including simple clips on disc, or only with certain items like merged clips, multicam sequences, subclips...?
In this project, the only type of clip I'm using is simple clips.  There are nested sequences; I'm not sure, but possibly the problem has also presented itself when these are brought into the source monitor - but not exclusively with those.
I hope this helps.  This is the first project I have worked on since the latest upgrade and I didn't come across this problem before.  As I say, it is intermittent, and it's hardly crippling - just annoying when it happens!
    Thanks

  • Setting in-and-out points  -- is this possible?

I set in-and-out points in the preview window by dragging the blue triangles.
I would like to sample various parts of a clip, though there are only 2 triangles.
    1. Is there a way to take one segment of video and establish in-and-out points for maybe the first 30 seconds of video and than set another in point maybe 1 minute later with a out point 30 seconds after that. So ultimately the encoding will encode two non-sequential segments of video.
    Thanks.

You can't do that, but you can achieve what you want by simply dragging in the clip multiple times into Compressor and for each clip, set your in and out point.

  • Sliding video clips along the time line

Quite often as I edit, I like to place clips in the time line forward of my current edit point. For example I might find a shot that works well with a musical swell or beat  30 seconds down the track. With the magnetic time line, I can't slide that shot to the point on the time line without the shot wanting to ping back to the final edit in the time line, or you have to insert place holders or slug. Any ideas for a quick easy way to slid clips?

I had that problem. Solution for me is to take your cursor and not just drag the stuck clips laterally parallel but lift them up slighly in above the time line and move them in any direction. The connecting thin vertical blue line line will still be attached to the TL but some how lifting them up slghtly allows you to drag them anywhere into the TL.

  • Editing After Laying Final Audio Mix Into The Time Line - Possible?

    Hello Board,
I finished my film recently and layed the final audio mix (stereo track) into the timeline, replacing all the seperate audio tracks. Now, I want to go in and do some edits at the beginning of the movie.
I still have the main video tracks and several other video tracks for noise filter, credits, etc.
Is it possible to link the video track with the stereo audio file and keep everything synced as I make the cuts to eliminate the need to remix the sound?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lin

Because the video and audio aren't linked, I'm using the razor tool to cut in and out point on the timeline, first to the video and then to the audio seperately. after marking the spots with the razor tool, I delete the unwanted area in between (I do both to the video and audio track) and then pull the pieces together on the video and audio tracks. So far it has stayed synced.
In your case, Lin, I'd recommend using Add Edit and Ripple Delete instead of the Blade tool and the other steps you're doing.
    That is...
    1. At the point where you want to cut, press Control-V (that's Add Edit)
    2. At the next point where you want to cut, press Control-V again
    3. Select the region to be cutout and press the Del key, that's the key below Help and to the left of End on your keyboard, not the Delete key.
(This is a Ripple Delete, which clears the selection and moves all clips to the left, leaving no gap)
However it seems like doing transitions would be hard because unless I can match the space on the audio track it will all go out of sync.
I'm honestly confused by what you mean about 'space on the audio track' and things not matching - care to clarify?

  • Marking an in or out point in the event browser changes the selected clip

I'm getting quite infuriated with this issue at the moment. I'm not sure if it's a bug, or I'm doing something wrong.
I've created collections of subclips by tagging ranges with keywords in the event browser. I'm now trying to edit these onto the timeline. I find the clip I want in the browser and use JKL and IO to mark the in and out point of the actual part of the clip I'm going to use. The problem I'm having is that sometimes - not all the time - pressing I or O changes the selected clip in the event browser.
    Any ideas what's going on?
Many thanks in advance for any help you're able to offer.

Changes how? Post screen shots of what you're seeing and what you expect to see.

  • Overlay a sequence in and out point

I am trying to create a clip that will be played on a loop so I want to make sure that the in and out point are identical (the clip is of an object which is rotating). Is there a way to overlay the in and out point to help me line up the placement of the in and out points?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chad

Here's how I'd take the trial and error out of it:
    Create a new sequence
Nest your main sequence in the new sequence twice--one copy on V1, the other on V2. Leave plenty of space before the one on V1.
set the opacity of the sequence on V2 to about 50%
move the playhead so you see the first frame of the sequence on V2
    select the sequence on V1
use the Nudge Clip Selection Left/Right shortcuts to move the instance on V1 until the frames match as closely as possible.
Trim the instance on V1 and delete the instance on V2, or else note the frame and go back to the original sequence to trim it there.
Here's what the sequence with the two nested sequences would look like:

  • Moving in and out points of layers into a new comp

I'm in a bind. I'm creating a complex moving split screen scene. First I chose in and out points for all my video clips (about thirty of them) in Premiere Pro, and made a rough plan of what it should look like. Then I Dynamic-Linked it to After Effects.
I left that comp alone and then created a new comp to create moving layer solids for the split screen animation. (Colored rectangles flying around.) So far so good. The plan was then to drag and drop the video clips onto the layer solids (which all have masks) but when I drag it over, it ignores the in and out point.
Is there a way to get it to recognize the in and out point? The in and out points are just fine in the Dynamic Link comp. (Again, that comp is just a very rough cut with no resizing or animation. I just did it to get the timing down.) Thanks.

You have to copy the layers in your original comp to maintain the
in and out points. The other option is to open the footage on the footage
ppannel and see if in and out points show up there. If they do you can copy and paste from that panel.

  • Getting rid of in and out points

To slo mo a bunch of clips at one time, I am putting the clips in the timeline, using paste attributes and then transferring them back to the browser to edit into my music video. After completing that step, they already have an in and out point. The in point in the beginning of the clip and the out point at the end of the clip. That means to do a cross dissolve, I have to delete the in and out points. I want to use paste attributes, but I hope I can transfer them back into my browser without the in and out points. Is that possible? Thanks for the help.

Pressing the Option and X keys together will remove In an Out points.
Option is marked "alt" on some keyboards.
