In built eval function for Logical expression?

I want to create a eval function to evaluate logical string expression like a==b?true:false which comes as a String. Is there anything provided by Flex

If you have EXP utility installed on your machine, a button trigger you can do:
HOST('EXP SCOTT/TIGER FILE=C:\Backup.dmp TABLES=(EMP, DEPT)');This will work both in client/server and web deployed, but in web deployed forms it will run on the application server and not the client machine.
To run it on the client machine you must use CLIENT_HOST.

Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express? The included sounds seem to be lacking or hard to access.

Update: Not terribly impressed with the interface for NI's Vintage Organs from the demo download, although the sound demos sure sound good. The letters are tiny and hard to read and the whole thing feels very PC-centric. I guess a guy gets spoiled by the intuitive stuff. I think what I'll try for now is just hooking up my keyboard (Korg N1, circa 1998, about 1700 built in sounds) as a sound module and record the waveforms when I find a sound I like. I did find the EXS24 and several other software synths with some cool organ sounds after digging a little deeper. It would be good if Apple came out with another jam pack just for organs and keys, as the existing jam packs are so easy to use.

Plug-Ins for Logic Express 9

Does anyone know of any sites where one can download plug-ins for Logic Express 9 (either for free or for purchase)? Also, I know that one can use sound fonts (.au) with GarageBand --do these also work in Logic Express 9 and, if so, do they need to be reinstalled for Logic or do both programs read the same source files?

To piggy back on previous posts, I would definitely pursue Native Instruments. While some may of the plug-ins may seem a bit on the pricey side, you will certainly get your money's worth. If you're looking for strong lead and bass sounds, I would encourage you to check out Massiv - it's my go-to plug-in of choice. I believe there is even a limited demo to try if you want to play around before purchasing.

Orchestral sounds for Logic Express

I purchased Logic Express believing there were plenty of orchestral samples/sounds beyond those of Garageband. I was sadly mistaken. Can anyone recommend any good orchestral VST or sound packages for Logic Express?
Are there any that are free to download? Or purchase?
And, what is the difference between a VST package and a garageband jam pack? Same thing but different??

Quick google tells me the difference between VST and AU (Garageband) is:
VST is the plugin used for both Macs and PC's so there are lots 'out there'.
AU's (Audio Units) use Mac OS X's native Core Audio. It seems that Logic can use both types, but Garage band can't (I may stand corrected as I don't use GB). The technical difference is, it seems that AU types are more 'efficiently' processed by OS X and the apple hardware - again this may or may not be true now that CPUs have moved on since the information I found on the 'interweb'. Some claim one is superior in sound to the other, but again I have no technical information that I have found to prove that.
I guess it's sort of the same difference between AAC and MP3, Apple can use both, one is considered superior in many ways, but the other is used more by the software manufacturers. I couldn't think of a car analogy
As to a pitiful amount of orchestral samples, yes I concur, compared to Logic Pro (which has a lot) Logic Express has about 20% of the total.
I haven't purchased any loops/samples from a third party myself, but you can find lots of 'free' download samples by searching.

Recommended mixing consoles for Logic Express 7

Im planning on buying a mixing console to match it with Logic Express 7. I like the Mackie Onyx 1620 and the control surface by M-Audio called Projectmix i/o. I dont know if these consoles are compatible with everything else: my comp and Logic; and if not what do u recommend?

I have owned a Mackie Control Universal for over two years now, and I love it. Granted, it is only a control surface, but my motto is:
1 device for 1 function, and have it do it well. I personally have had bad luck with devices that try to do too many things at once. they usually go to the trash after a while.

Which computer for logic express 8

Hi. I'm looking to buy an apple computer and logic express 8. I want a laptop that is powerful enough to run a decent software for writing and recording tunes that is intuitive and user friendly.
I heard that it is better to get a seperate hard drive to run the music software. Is this true?
I wondered if I could get away with just buying mac book, bu t, am thinking about a mac book pro..refurbished to save money.
THis laptop would also serve to play with photos, movies, etc.
I appreciate any feedback.
Also, I have ableton live, but, I wanted to get logic because Apple has great support and education now.

Any computer that apple makes today CAN run Logic. The performance will depend on how much you want to do with it. I haven't pushed my system enough yet, but from what I've seen on the forums, the point where resources start becoming a problem for the macbooks/imacs/minis is around 20 tracks with heavy use of plug ins.
Of course, actual performace is debateable, but based purely on specs, I see three or four main differences between the new MacBooks and the MacBook Pros that you can get refurbished today:
1. The Pro has a bigger screen. Working on a MacBook myself, I can tell you that the smaller screen gets frustrating sometimes. I'm thinking of getting a separate monitor for when I'm working at home.
2. The Pro has a better graphics processor. This will improve performance some, but the difference would be more noticeable in more graphics intensive application like games rather than music production.
3. The Pro has more RAM out of the box. That said, RAM is cheap if you don't get it from Apple. It's also a pretty easy upgrade to do yourself. Instructions can be found in the Support section and are pretty good. I upgraded my mid-tier MacBook to 2GB for under $50. You can upgrade the new MacBooks to 4GB for under $100. The cheapest of the refurb Pros comes with 2GB RAM, but it's unclear whether you can upgrade to 4GB.
4. The Pro has 2 firewire ports, one of which is FW800.
Of these 4 main differences, the only one I see as a deal breaker is the screen size. When I was buying last summer, I, personally, couldn't justify the extra expense of the Pro.
Regarding a separate hard drive, this is a debateable topic and just like any performance issue depends on how hard you're pushing the system. I have two pieces of advice here:
1. Start by using the internal hard drive. If you run into resource problems an external drive may help the situation.
2. If you do go the external route, get a Firewire drive. While USB 2.0's signal speed is faster than Firewire (480 Mb/sec vs. 400Mb/sec), it's fairly well documented that Firewire is faster in most real life applications (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire#ComparisontoUSB) and frees up the CPU for more plug ins and/or tracks.
Finally, while Apple is generally known for good support, many of the users on the Logic Pro forum would strongly disagree with that statement when it comes to Logic. Logic 8 was released with some fairly major bugs and there has only been one software update since its relase in September, whereas programs like iTunes seem to get weekly updates. Granted, most of the complaints come from professional studio engineers use Logic 6,8,10 hours a day who push it to its limits on a regular basis. Users like this are more likely to uncover problems than more casual users like me (and I assume you). Don't get me wrong, I'm personally very happy with Logic. I just don't want you to expect the same level of support and education Apple provides for iLife.

Built-in functions for Forms in Oracle AS 10g

Hi,
We have recently installed form and report services for AS10g.
Altough we have successfully converted and deployed static 6i forms to the server, the built in functions (like CALL FORM etc.) doesn't work.
For instance a form is diplayed and is able to retrieve data but it does actually nothing when a button is pressed with underlying CALL_FORM, SET_WINDOW_PROPERTY functions.
In our developer's devSuite these functions work fine, so I wonder if some service to be added to the server side.
Any help will be appreciated,

If your development and target systems are different make sure you regenerate the FMX files...also make sure you have the correct case....in windows CALL_FORM('FormA') is will call a form called FORMA or ForMA or FORma..if you are deployed on unix or linux this will fail .

Eval functionality for AS3?

I have searched through the forums and the web on this topic
but can't seem to find a solution that works for my situation. I
used to use the eval function in AS2 to access methods and
properties of dynamically named variables but it seems to be much
different in AS3.
A simple example :

variables and that is what i am having difficulty doing. I can
trace them with hardcoding them but not dynamically.

Jam Band for logic express? Drum Fills

Hello, I am working with a Logic 8 instructional video, Jam Band is being used to set up loops and fills. Does anyone know if that was part of logic

Battery is not a sequencer. It does not store patterns, you have to do that in your Logic track. There are tons of samples arranged in kits from recorded samples to electronic drum kits and even special effects kits.
Reading all of your posts, to be honest Ultrabeat sounds to be exactly what you want. To get that you need to upgrade to Logic Pro.
Do a search Google for "Logic Pro Ultrabeat" you will find info from various sources that will help you decide.
In Ultrabeat you can load sounds, create sounds by synthesis or samples, create patterns then put the pattern directly into a Logic software instrument region

Optimizing an iBook for Logic Express 7

Hi guys -
What steps can I take to ensure I get the most out of Logic Express 7?
I already record to an external 7,200-rpm FW drive, and I've got 1GB of RAM.
My question is, what can I do with Tiger to optimize for recording/mixing? Should I turn off AirPort? Should I switch off Dashboard (I have a utility for that)? What else?
I use the floating CPU-I/O monitor in LE7, and it typically doesn't show either peaking too much. But sometimes I hear pops and crackles when mixing - even with all the tracks frozen (e.g. running 22 tracks of real audio, with about 10 using various AU/Logic plugins). Do pan/volume curves tax your system, too? I know you can use them on frozen tracks.

Your drive's fine, ram's ok, but if you can ($) add more, you're the only one to have profit!
Yeah, free your system, if you don't need it when record, turn it off, more?
if you really need for example bring down the resolution & colour from millions to thousands you can even have a login acess for audio with all those automations, just resart an bang!
About those pops, thry to see if they're on tracks, zoom & solo tracks until you find it. Increase you buffer size to 1024 (just for mixing) for record you should be ok with 128 or 256 (never higher)! Bear in mind that record with very low buffers such 32 or 64 can sometimes add clicks and pops too.
If they're on track a crossfade can do the trick.

If you bought it from the Apple Store, they'd have records of the purchase, and could perhaps provide you with the proper numbers.

Comparison Matrix for Logic Express and Logic Pro?

I have looked everywhere for a chart that compares the features between these two products and can't find one.
I am thinking of moving up from Garageband, and leaning toward Logic Express right now.

I don't think so, but you can go to their respective Specs in Apple web-site and make one yourself.
Basically, LE is the same thing as Logic Pro, but with less instrument/effects plugins and less audio/instrument loops content. Also, Logic Studio package has additional tools like Mainstage/Soundtrack Pro, which you may not need.
As a sequencer and 3rd party plugin host LE is as powerful as Logic Pro.

Are there some news for Logic Express and UC-33e ?

Well, I know that someone have discussed it already but I don't find any simple answer (for a newbie).
Well is ti possible to find preset to make the UC-33e work as a control surface with Logic Express.
I know there is a song in the CD of the UC-33e that enables you to use the Mix Window but :
1) I don't find it very classy
2) Sometimes I need to use old projects...
So is there a solution ?
