If that is true is the retractable car charger I have a figment of my imagination?
Here's an example of a non-curly corded retractable car charger that may work with a 5800:

Others are available and even Nokia used to make one that doubled as an FM transmitter:

  • Non brand car charger sold at brand price

I bought a car charger for my new phone Droid 4 less then a month ago at a premium verizon wireless store. I have always bought my accesories from verizon because cheap ones break easy and dont last. I was happy with my car charger when later I find out that my car charger is not a brand name and was sold to me for a premium price car charger. I saw the same exact charger at a mall kiosk with a million other car charger for around $10-15e.
Verizon stiffed me and now guess what? the car charger peace came off and the wires are just hanging out. I went to the exact same store and the costumer service man who helped me basically told me to take a hike. He would not even look at the car charger(i had originall receipt). He said he would sell me one at a discount but not switch it. I called Verizon this evening and they were able to pull up the receipt of where the car charger was bought. They said also they could not do anything because they could not see the actual charger. I let them know that one of there employees turned me away earlier from a store when i tried showing him the charger. Now if i want to they will send me a new one but i have to senf the defective one and if thet see it was my fault they will charge me again full retail price. Ive been with verizon for a long long time. I think this is poor service. What else can i do?

Its a premium retailer not owned by verizon wireless. Kinda like when you shop at mcdonalds , its not all the same thing but a franchise. I always use the cheap chargers and they work fine. I did buy a genuine one last time tho and it works pretty good too. In my opinion, its just dc currrent which is not as bad as ac corrent. Im no electrician tho. I remember some old phones had a chip that would detect a cheap charger.

  • Car charger available for new 13" macbook pro with retina display?

Where do I find the best car charger for my new 13" retina display macbook pro?

There are none for any MBP that Apple sells or endorses.  I have seen some available, but none that I am willing to take a risk with.
    Ciao.

  • Whenever I plug my iPhone into the car charger (professionally installed and hardwired), it comes up with the yellow triangle and exclamation mark saying that this accessory isn't supported.   It's been working quite fine since 2010, now it's not.

My iPhone car charger was professionally installed in 2010 and again in 2013 and had been working perfectly for all of this time, now it's coming up with the yellow triangle and the text saying that this accessory isn't supported.    Is there an easy way to fix this without tearing everything to bits?    It all appears to have gone boonta about 3 upgrades ago and I haven't been able to use it since.
I've seen and tried the suggestions on Google, none of them work for long, and I'm certainly not going to tear the car kit or phone apart to overcome something that is obviously a software issue.    Surely Apple can overcome this?
And the bloody "Terms and Conditions" fiasco!   55 pages of mumbo jumbo that nobody would read EVER, and you get to the end and nothing happens.   I've bought an app from Apple to use on their product and I can't install it because the Terms and Conditions doesn't accept anything.   Surely they can fix this?
    Come on.....waiting.

  • Does the iphone 6 use the same car charger as the iphone 5

does the iphone 6 use the same car charger as the iphone 5

My setup in my car is this: I have a 3-foot USB to USB extension coming out of my factory USP port in my vehicle, and attached to the end is a short Apple lightning cable. I ran this combo through the console and up and out by the steering column - with a Bracketron holder that clips into my vent. Worked great with my iPhone 5. I tried it with my iPhone 6 and after about 30 seconds of being plugged in (while driving) it said the accessory was not compatible. I unplugged and tried multiple times ... no dice. Today I went into my local Apple store and discussed it with genius. He said the iPhone 6 phones have an special chip inside of them that will detect third-party charging devices (in my case it was the USB extension). They did this because of some instances of fires with non-Apple lightning cables. I purchased a 6-foot Apple lightning cable, and replaced the old setup and it works fine now.

  • Pre won´t charge on regular outles, only on the car charger or with the USB to the computer

I went away this weekend and was not able to charge my pre, none of the hotel outlets worked, it was very frustrating. i get home and it doesn´t work either, only when I connect it to my mac. How do i fix this? help!
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I have this problem also.  When I use the wall charger or a car charger, my Palm Pre usually fails to go on charge.  Sometimes it does after unplugging it and plugging it back in a couple of times, but often it doesn't.  However, it works 100% of the time when charging from my laptop's USB port.
I use the exact same cable for all three, so it's not a cable issue.  It's unlikely that both my wall charger and my car charger are broken.  In fact I believe that there's something about the USB data connection that "wakes up" my Pre to tell it a connection has been made.  On a dumb, power-only connection, it has a problem.
I am thinking about returning my Pre because it's a huge pain to charge it off my laptop when I'm out and about all day.

  • In car charging

This is a bit convoluted so please be patient....first time user
My charger at home is the magnetic type but I want to be able to have my laptop in the car - to get internet access etc. when away from home.
I can see how a usb car charger would work if I could use one of the usb slots - but surely that won't charge it.
    Help please
have lots of cables and chargers but can't see how they all go together.
Have seen the one apple has for sale but don't think it is suitable...

The product that I speak of needs no adapter. It plugs into your car's cigarette lighter (DC current) and converts it to wall-type current (AC current) complete with sockets just like in the wall. You merely plug in your MagSafe and you're off and running.
I found one place that sells 230V generating inverters, but they all seem to be pretty large.
    http://www.quasarelectronics.com/power-inverters.htm
I've actually got one myself. It's a 120V 100W rated output one with a 5V USB output and a single two blade US plug. It's about the size of a deck of playing cards not including the assorted cables hanging out of it. When plugged in it makes one heck of a buzzing noise and it can get very hot. I'm not sure how pure the output is or whether or not it's good to use it in the long run.
What would likely be better, quieter, and more efficient is a DC-DC converter that doesn't have to ramp up to a high AC value first. However - none exists that I know of that would work with a MacBook.

  • Where is the car charger?

Is there supposed to be a car charger in the box?
Seems like a $600 phone would come with a charger.
Boy, the price of being in this cult is expensive.

Oh really? Which one? I've owned various cell phones since about 1997. Probably about 10-12 cell phones. None of them have ever come with a free car charger.
Did you get one free as an incentive? That's different than getting one in the box.
It doesn't matter tho, I don't believe you that you got a car charger in the box. I have too much experience to believe that.

  • Which one of these 12volt/car charger for MacBook Pro would you choose..???

    Hi everyone.
I am looking for a suitable 12volt/car charger, so i can charge my brand new MacBook Pro directly from our caravan batteries via a car/12 volt socket. I dont want to use a inverter, as it draws unnecessary power from the vans batteries.
I am being cautious as I don't want to use a product that is not 100% compatible here in Australia and might void the warranty in any way.
I can not find anything suitable manufactured by Apple but I have found many 3rd party alternatives, ranging from approx $50 up to a couple of hundred.
Has anyone had any experience with any of these products.

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi Carl, Thank you for your help. I am still none the wiser which one to pick. You say they are not equivalent, but don't they all do the same job. I never was any good at joining the dots, my spelling is shocking and I really wouldn't know a technical error even if it was starring me in the face.
    Have a good one.

  • FM Transmitter /  Car Charger

Anyone having issues with their car charger / fm transmitter working with their new iPhone?
My Car charger says that this device is not supported. Therefore, I have to go get a new one. Anyone have this issue and if so, have you found a car charger /fm transmitter that works and that is good?

I am also having the same issue. From what I have heard around town is that none of the old 3G and 3Gs FM/Car Chargers work with the iPhone 4. I don't understand why particularly since the usb cable is the same for every ipod and iphone I have ever used and the charger I have charges all of those but it doesn't work. I was told is was the iOS4 that actually negates the charger from working, which could be feasible since my iPhone 4 will connect to my charger and even charge for a % or 2 but then says it is not compatible.

  • Lumia 920 Wireless Car Charger?

Technically, I'm not part of the Nokia community yet, as I don't have my Lumia in hand. But, I am getting the 920 on December 1st. I am ridiculously excited! But onto my question, has anyone heard or read anywhere that Nokia is developing a wireless car charger? I love the idea of my phone sitting on a dock(Attached to a cigarette lighter of course) and being able to pick it up and answer a call and not have to worry about the cord getting caught on the e-brake or snagged somewhere and unplugging from the phone when the phone is picked up. I just think this would be a great accessory!

It isn't wireless, but Proclip has come out with a 920 car mount with integral charge connector. Been using their stuff for years and highly recommend. The concept is two part, one specifically for the car, and the other for the device. They have an optional Move Clip system that makes moving device holders and changing them more convinient. The site is at http://www.proclipusa.com
One 920 specific one is here
I have the non-powered one for the 920. Almost looks like you could slide the charge plate behind it, but the wall wart isn't USB. Haven't looked to see what the power requirements are for the wireless chargers. Might be a project for a motivated techie. I am a techie, but the motivation is an issue.

  • IPhone 3G car charger

Just upgraded to 3G iPhone and the car charger I have been happily using for the last year has stopped working and is not supported. Firstly they kept that a bit quiet. Secondly, any suggestions for a car charger that does work
Just looking for a standard charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

Apple changed the design of the iPhone 3G dock port such that it can no longer draw power from the FireWire pins in the dock connector, and those are the pins that many car chargers use (since FW can carry higher voltages than USB).
I can confirm that the Griffin PowerJolt and PowerJolt SE work fine with the iPhone 3G. I have both; the SE is all one piece, whereas the non-SE version has separate lighter plug with a USB port and a USB-to-dock cable. The advantage of the latter is that you can use it with other cables (e.g. the Apple BT Travel Cable if you have an Apple BT headset, or the USB charger cable for a 3rd party BT headset).
    Hope this helps...

  • Car Charger for Nokia Lumia 900

I am looking for a car charger for my Nokia Lumia 900.  I checked the Nokia website and there is nothing in the Accessories page for this model.  Any suggestions?

If you are looking for a Nokia branded car charger I think there is none.

  • Car charger, 12v- USB.

First of, no i dont want nokia original charger, i _really_ hate the twisted cord.
I have tried several different 12v -> USB-adapters and the micro-USB charging/data cable, but none of them works.
I have even tried opening the original car charger (with micro USB), and changed the twisted cord to a straight, normal, micro-USB one, with no luck.
The last adapter i tried is specced for 1A(deltaco), which should be more than sufficient.
This is _REALLY_ starting to **bleep** me off, what is up with this? Can anyone help me?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iPod Nano needs to exchange data prior to charging so a Nano aware charger must be used.
USB should has standard power values (I thought it was 5volts so 5.7 volts sounds right for charging. Where did you see the 3.7v figure?)
Anyhow the bottom line is that you need a specific charger. (Apparently this is becoming increasingly common. The Nano inspired and catchily titled Samsung ZP-25 also needs a data exchange (or specific charger).
