In car connectivity.

I have recently got a Seat Leon, ordered especially with the bluetooth audio car kit.  Controlled by the steering wheel.  Fantastic, unfortunately my phone has just given up the ghost (6111).  Looking for a new phone with full compatability phonebook etc, but the Seat website hasn't been updated in nearly two years.  Does anyone have any ideas on what phones do work (easily) or those to avoid.
Any help gratefully received.
Kiernan

CJLIM is correct, and Seat would probably have a list of compatible phones.
However, with my experience of Audi, the handsets are very old on their list.
I have an Audi S3, with a Bluetooth car kit which also has a cradle in the centre console armrest, as Seat and Audi are all part of Volkswagen AG, I'd imagine at a guess that they are using similar parts.
Normally to have the phonebook functionality you need to have a profile in the Bluetooth Stack called Phone Book Access Profile, most of the N or E series Symbian S60 handsets do not carry this profile.
However, the E71 does. My E71 is the only handset that I have used with S60 that works with all the functionality of the car kit, missed calls the lot.
The alternative work around for other E and N series handsets is here:
/discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&thread.id=97
You could also find a sympathetic phone shop that's willing to spend some time on you testing out some of their demo handsets in the car, this however is a long shot as most of them (especially large companies) will not entertain it and the Droid behind the counter is simply not interested.
Shunts...
I will mostly be communicating with a Nokia E72 Zodium Black
Nokia E72-1 with Vr 051.018.207.04 Software

  • Since upgrading to iOS 5.1.1 docks and car connection stopped working

Since I upgraded my iPhone last night, my iHome dock, Philips dock and BMW car connection are failing.  When connecting the phone to the docks I get a "This accessory not supported" message on the phone and when I hook it up in the car the car display plays music but is stuck on displaying only the name of the first song and doesn't change when moving from one song to another.

Exactly the same.  Upgraded to 5.1.1.  Now docking port on BMW X5 2009 has stopped working completely...flashes back and forth on the screen "audio accessory connected" to the album covers, 1-2 times per second.  Absolutely no music. The car no longer sees the phone.  Bluetooth voicecalls work fine.
Also, "accessory not supported" flashes constantly on my Bose stero dock.  If I repeatedly plug in the phone I can get it to work 1/2 the time.
iphone that can't play music......great.  How was this missed on QA?
    Anyone know Tim Cook's email??

  • Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC)

MirrorLink™ is a recently introduced standard for connecting smartphone devices to vehicle-based infotainment systems. It is a cross-industry solution supported by leading automotive manufacturers, system suppliers, consumer electronics manufacturers and handset manufacturers as part of the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC). MirrorLink™ offers seamless and convenient use of smartphone-based applications such as navigation, music playback and other entertainment and communication apps.
Hopefully Apple will also join the CCC - This way we'll hopefully be able to intergate our iPhones and iPads etc. with Car Audio head Units that support MirrorLink http://www.mirrorlink.com/news-and-events/press-releases/ccc-tagline-contest.htm l.
For instance the Alpine ICS-X8 http://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/bluetooth-and-usb8/ics-x8_23559 and ICS-X7 supports MirrorLink. Mobile phones from Nokia and also the Samsung Galaxy S3 already supports MirrorLink.
Come on Apple please join the CCC!

Same here. 2011 Jetta SE with MDI iPod adapter cable, when I connect the iPhone (4), the stereo display shows that it's playing, but no audio is heard. So far when I disconnect it and reconnect a second time, no problem. It's a bit annoying. Also, shouldn't A2DP Bluetooth streaming work? I see it as an option in the Media menu, but it's greyed out. I have a feeling only the Jetta SEL supports this? If so, that's a bit of a disappointment.

  • IPhone 4 Car Connection (USA Spec Intergration) And Docking

    Hi,
I'm likely going to be getting the new iPhone 4 when it rolls out on Verizon. First off, please don't tell me how big of a mistake I'm making and alike. AT&T is terrible in my area, and most of the people I talk to (work or friends) have Verizon. If I hear anything about a future iPhone for LTE, then I may rethink, but as it sits, I'll be getting one in February. Data use during a call isn’t a major issue for me, nor is FaceTime… but I do have Wi-Fi connections at home and at work, if need be.
Currently, I have a first generation iPod Touch (16GB, with the current OS that I really cannot remember off the top of my head) which I use in my 2002 Impala with a USA-Spec interface. It is a 3G version, which I've had ever since it came out. Anyways, I saw that they have an iPhone 4 version, so I will likely have to swap the box out when I move to it... which is easy due to where I mount it. All the wires are ran, so it is just unplug and swap.
My question is if anyone has that setup with their iPhone 4, and if so, how does it work in your car? My main thing is music, since I mainly use my iPod strictly as a music library for my car. With the iPhone, I’m hoping to eliminate carrying a phone, as well. From how I read it on USA-Spec’s website, the music will mute and you will hear a ring through the speakers… when you answer, the speakers cut and you use it just like a regular phone. I’m sure that this is a small group of people, but if someone does have this setup, would a Bluetooth headset work? I’m actually emailing USA-Spec about this, but wanted input if there are actual users.
I also have a HMDX dock that I use sometimes to listen to my iPod when doing reports or whatever else for work. I kind of remember it being compatible for the iPhone, but not completely sure on that. Anyways, it just charges and plays music over a speaker… so it should work with the iPhone 4 with the correct adaptor, correct? If I can get away with it, I’d like to use it for charging when I’m at work… then get another one for home.
    Thanks,
    -John

    @SH.
I am sorry you are having this problem. Sure it's convenience, but it is very helpful. I, too, had this problem at first in my car...worked perfectly with 3G, but same problems with 4. Then, when I did get a connection, the audio was terrible. Before, people could hardly tell I was using the car bluetooth..now they ask me to go back to the handset.
Every car system is different and I understand that but what I had to do and what worked was that I got my old 3G phone back in and then with it in the car, I disconnected the device within the iPhone 3G, then in the car system, I had it 'remove paired phone'.
Then, I synched my 4phone from back up and then paired the phone by making the 4 discoverable and having the car system find it...
And all has been well since then.
I hope that works. I would also try calling your car manufacturer and see if there needs to be an update..I had to update my system when I got the 3G...
Otherwise, you may indeed have a defective phone.
    Good luck.

  • Bluetooth (in-car) connection, following upgrade.

    Hi folks,
I've recently moved to a Q10, which was fine overall. Just updated to 10.2.1.2102, as I thought it would be o.k. but now I cannot to get the phone to automatically connect with the car when re-starting. It's a Mercedes. Prior to the update, all was fine. Anybody else had similar issues?
Is it possible to 'back out' the upgrade?

Update: Vodafone now refer me to Blackberry and even provided a number for me, which (because I'm not their customer) further referred me to their 'complimentary support service'...their website.
To be fair, some digging around revealed:
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do;jsessionid=D0429A4745A2C6D4AA1D867C7312A7AC?...
Now I have no time, nor desire, to get into a philosophical debate, as to whether this is BB's or MB's problem, other than to say it worked fine before BB changed it.
I'm off to buy a couple of can of beans and a roll of string <hashtag ffs>

  • Blackberry Z 10 car connection

since upgrading to software release 10.2.1.2102, when I pair my phone with my Mercedes the phone pairs correctly. However, once the car is turned off, rep[airing will not happen. The only way to repair is to delete all info from the car and the phone and start afresh. the new connection also fails after the car is turned off. Is this problem known and being addressed???

    Hi DLP,
We have addressed this issue in a recent update to BlackBerry 10.To check for updates on your device go to Settings followed by Software Updates. For more detail check out this post

  • 2.0 Firmware update: router & car connection successes,  failures & warning

    1. I found out that my Touch doesn't see the network on my Airport extreme 802.11n operating on 5GHz in a mixed Airport Extreme network. It does, however, see & connect to an attached Airport extreme 802.11g operating on 2.4GHz (with WPA2). Conclusion: Maybe the Touch can't connect to routers operating on 5GHz. Has anyone had any success with routers operating on 5GHz?
    2. After installing the firmware update, my Touch stopped working with my car's Alpine iPod radio that I had been using for over a year with the Touch without any problems. It detected the iPod, but kept on "searching" without any success. I'll try another iPod tomorrow, but I'm sure the radio is OK. That's a problem as I doubt that the radio manufacturers will come up with software updates to accommodate Apple's iPod firmware updates. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem?

No video and audio dropouts with my 2G touch. 2G Nano works fine. Alpine Tech help's pointing the finger to Apple.

  • In Car Connection

I have an Ipod Classic and have recently brought a car with a usb connection. I have tried to connect my Ipod and I get an erroe message saying usb unreadable. Any advice?

I'd try contacting the manuacturer - on the iPod's end, it should just be plug and play.
I'd make sure that the USB connection is iPod compatible, maybe by rigning the garage or a little googling.

  • Pairing phone with Bluetooth car connection

Anyone out there know how/where to enter the passcode the car gives me after it's found the phone in order to pair and enable the device with the Bluetooth connection? Thanks!

    Thanks. Worked perfectly.

  • Iphone4 car connection trouble

    Hi everyone:
Just got a verizon iphone4 and am having trouble connecting it via aux in my car. Sounds easy enough, but for some reason when plugged in the iphone only plays music from its own speakers and not via the car speakers. Bought a new griffin aux cable and everything. Is there a setting on the iphone that it should be on?
    Thanks!

Me too. I have a 2000 528i with a bluetooth kit from Bimmernav. My car has the DSP stereo but not Navigation.
My iPhone 3G, once paired, worked perfectly for both sending and receiving calls, up through and including software version 3.1.
Now that I've paired my iPhone 3G(S) sound seems to drop in and out during the call. It works a little better if I turn off Wi-Fi and/or 3G network while in the car, but it seems to me the Bluetooth should be able to handle that without the hassle of having to manually disable those every time I get in the car. The fact that the iPhone 3G worked fine tells me that the car system is not the culprit, here; it must be either the iPhone 3G(S) or the latest software update, or a combination of the two.
Have you tried disabling Wi-Fi and/or 3G network? Seems like that at least might provide more info.

  • Spotify on iPod 4th gen - car connectivity problem

Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong place: (The low down) iPod 4th Gen - iOS (6.1.6)  When connecting via USB to 2013 Vauxhall Astra, the head unit displays song track / artist / how long the song has been playing for etc.  Problem: I am unable to change tracks (go back or forward) using the car controls. (on the steering wheel or the dash board)  I have got the latest version of Spotify and iOS available for the 4th gen iPod. As it is an iPod with WiFi connectivity only, I am playing songs that have been downloaded on the device.  the Apple iTunes player works perfectly with the car controls and this is the only reason why I have bought Spotify premium as I wanted to downloaded songs to listen offline and as I spend a majority of time the car, this is very important to me.  Has anyone experienced similar issues / know of any past solutions?

I havent come across the vehicle specific idea yet, but it's curious, what makes it different from vehicle to vehicle? As for the iPod idea, I went out and got a brand new iPod Touch 5, and its the same thing. For some reason, the controls will only change tracks in iTunes, and not Spotify. Im thinking that its only because the ipod/spotify app doesnt know how to read the instructions for the car itself. The most infuriating thing is, this used to work, then they upgraded the app in 2013, and something went haywire. I'm considering trying out the app, Music Control Plus, but I'm seeing that it might only be available on a jailbroken iPod, so that might take a bit to try out. Ill let you know how it goes!

  • After upgrade to ios7 podcast shows wrong information on display in the car connected via bluetooth

    Hello everybody,
After upgrade to ios7 I see very strange podcast behavior when iPhone is connected to the car stereo system via the Bluetooth.
When I play the first track it shows correct information about this track. When the first track is finished and I move to another track it still keep showing previous information about previous track.
    I will appreciate your advise.

Assuming you are able to select and play podcasts from your car controls be thankful!  Many of us can no longer control the playback of podcasts from the car controls now that Apple has ripped podcast support from the Musica app!
I have seen that behavior in the past with Music under iOS6 though.  Not sure what caused it.  A reboot of the phone and off/on cycle on the radio would seem to clear it up when it would happen to me.

  • MAJOR DESIGN FLAW?:  ----  IPAD in car connected to 12V outlet

i have my usb power cord plugged into a device which converts the 12V to usb power.
When I do this the IPAD works fine except for audio output. There is a loud buzzing on the audio.
When I play audio and it is not hooked up to car usb, no buzzng.
Since very cheap electronics can use car power to produce clean sound, why does not the $800+ 64GB 3G do it?
Seems like a major design flaw if I cannot plug it into the car and listen to music during long trips.

One way to suppress engine noise/digital hash - which is very common and getting worse in cars as more computers, upwards of 100 in some cars as well a multiple networks connecting them in - is to place a ferrite choke on the cable powering the device. Some USB cable have them built in. They look like a cylinder perhaps 2 inches long and 3/4 inch in diameter molded onto the cable.
They can also be externally used which is probably the only way with the USB to iPad connector cable.
Radio Shack has them see [*this link*|http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3012599] for example. Their web site says they are available in most stores.

  • Nokia Lumia 635 Car Connection

I have managed without problem to connect my phone to my Vauxhall Astra handsfree without a problem but can not get it to sync the contacts from the phonebook to the car. Worked perfectly with all our old Nokias?

Good day, Kagey. Are you now able to make a call while the phone is paired to your car? If no, check this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobile/support/product/lumia635/faq/?action=singleTopic&topic=FA14139.... Note that the link is intended for the US.
