  • How can I reinstall Keymap Pro now that Apple owns it?

    Apple:
I bought Keymap Pro from Redmatica in Feb-Mar (don't remember the actual date). I am now trying to install it onto another Mac. I missed the latest download that the owner (Andrea Gozzi) sent out. Now when I try and install, it continually attempts to contact the server at the Redmatica site and that does not exist. I also can not gain access to the latest version of the software that he sent a link out to. I am at version 2.3.12! Help!!!!

You could also try posting this question over at logicprohelp.com  There is a pinned "sticky" thread there dealing with Apple's purchase of Redmatica. Someone there may be able to help.

Still have MobileMe icon (not iCloud) on my System Preferences, how can I install iCloud on Macbook pro when directions say to click on iCloud icon in System Pref. ?

Read the system requirements for iCloud.  It is not compatible with Snow Leopard which your system profile confirms you have.

how can i install mac os x 10.4 an a external hardrive

Boot the Mac from the 10.4 installation disk, confirm with Disk Utility that the external drive is formatted as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) with the appropriate partition type (GUID for an Intel Mac, Apple Partition Map for a PowerPC Mac), select the external hard drive as the disk on which to install, and install.
You posted in the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion forum, by the way. You'll usually get the quickest and most applicable responses if you ask in the forum for the product or service about which you're asking.

But you can install any version of Windows or Linux legally on an Apple notebook.  That has to do with license agreements.   You can read all the license agreements for Apple's operating systems here:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/
    This tip explains how:

It may be time to sell your Acer, and get an Apple instead.

can i install Mac OS on in Windows 7? for dual-boot purpose

But you can install Windows on a Mac via Bootcamp for dual boot.
For the purposes of Windows®, a Mac is just a generic piece of PC hardware, so installing on to it is permitted by Microsoft's EULA.  On the other hand, Apple have explicitly stated in the EULA for OS X "Mountain Lion" that it should only be installed and run on Apple-branded hardware.  Section 2, Paragraph B, Sub-section 1:
you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license […] to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer…
    (emphasis mine)
    Section 2, Paragraph H:
The grants set forth in this License do not permit you to, and you agree not to, install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so.
Also, discussion of how to run OS X on non-Apple branded hardware is against these forums' Use Agreement, Section 2 Paragraph 8, including Sub-section 1:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
This thread'll be reported by someone if any salient advice is offered that enables the OP in his endeavour.

  • How can I install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Mac OS X Tiger?

Hello. Can someone tell me how I can install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Mac OS X Tiger? I have the disk, but when I open the installer, I get a message saying that Snow Leopard could not be installed on my computer and it could only be installed on a Intel-Based Mac. This is a PowerPC Mac, so that makes sense.
So, I'm trying to ask how to make my Mac an Intel-Based Mac so I could install Snow Leopard. Or if I can't do that, I need to know how to install Snow Leopard some other way. Please help.

Just an FYI, the Mac App Store was introduced with Mac OS X 10.6.6.    However the rest of what you say is accurate.
10.6.8 is required if you want to upgrade certain Macs beyond 10.7.5 without having to reformat the drive you are installing the operating system on and without having to install some version of 10.7 first.
One can actually install 10.7 or later if you maintain an original copy of the full installer of the operating system in question for your personal use without having to have the prerequisite operating system installed, if the hardware supported it.  But that's a discussion for another forum.
    For HFTaylor,
Consider buying a used or refurbished Mac with an Intel CPU depending on your needs.  Read this tip about the migration of data from PowerPC to Intel before proceeding:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
and see this tip about used and refurbished Macs*:

  • How can I install Mac Mini drivers for Windows 7 32-bit if I didn't install Windows 7 using bootcamp?

Hello. I have a mac-mini (mid 2010) and with bootcamp, was successfully running XP.
I then decided to upgraded to Windows 7 had lots of trouble installing it on my existing bootcamp partition.
I finally was able to install Windows 7, by just booting off the CD and letting it install that way.
But reading more on it, I think I was supposed to use Bootcamp to do it for me...
I had thought the Bootcamp Assistant was for only fresh installs of a Windows O.S. where no partitiion existed previously.
I had a partition so thought Bootcamp wasn't required for my needs.
But now, inside Windows 7, I have 0 drivers installed. I have an AirPort Express, so on the Mac side, I downloaded
and installed the Windows version of AirPort Utility and copied it to my USB stick. Then
I exported my settings to a text file on a USB Stick, then on Windows was able to successfully install AirPort Utility and import the settings.
But it still doesn't find my network. I am pretty sure I'm broadcasting my SSID...
So I need to know the following:
    1) How to know I'm broadcasting my SSID - where do I find this in settings?
    2) How I can install my mac-mini drivers on Windows 7 so I can use my existing wireless network, now that I've gone through the installation without using Bootcamp?
    3) Do I need to set up network adapters and all that stuff in Windows 7 first? If so, how and what drivers do I need?
One other thing I tried was downloading Bootccamp 4.x and installing that on Windows 7 to see if it gives me the drivers that were supposed to be written to my USB stick if I had installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp in the first place... However I think the message it said was that it couldn't install as it was the wrong version. So I'm still stuck without drivers and therefore no internet.
And that is my main task - getting the Internet up and running in Windows 7.
    Other Info:
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 2 GB of memory.
I installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7 and I don't know what version of Bootcamp I'm running...
I can tell you that BootCamp Assistant is v3.0.4, but don't know if that means Bootcamp is also 3.0.4.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

I tried something that worked for me...
Knowing that after my install of Windows 7 wasn't the correct method (didn't go through bootcamp), and the BootCamp 4.x package wouldn't install under windows 7, I tried reinstalling Bootcamp 4.x in Windows 7 to see what the exact message was it gave me. The message said it couldn't install because of a 32-bit O.S. vs a 64-bit version of the package.
So that got me thinging - my XP version was 32-bit, and so is my Windows 7 installation. So I tried installing the bootcamp that came with my Mac OS X installation CD. This is bootcamp version 3.1.
Not only did it install, but it practically took care of everything driver-wise for me. I was then able to see my wireless network, enter my password and I was connected. The only thing else I had to do to get on the Internet was bring IE8 online (guess it ships offline by default). Firewall and Antivirus are now installed, just a few more things to go.
That's one thing that's just not clear that I'll be sure to note for next time... The Bootcamp packages you download are actually driver packages for Windows. That is where the Windows drivers exists that are necessary to make your Windows 7 PC work on a bootcamp partition!
I didn't need the AirPoirt Utility at all (at least, I never went into it).
Thanks VikingOSX for your post. I will not need to follow the steps you provided, but they may help someone else as all of these bootcamp issues I've been reading seem to be very unique per installation.
    Hopefully my solution helps others.

  • How can I install Mac Creative Suite 5.5 on Windows 8 w/ no CD slot?

In college we were roped into buying Macbooks for our courses. We were given Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 and I distinctly remember the IT guy telling us it had the capability of running on one Apple product and one Windows product. Now that I no longer have my Macbook and I'm using a new Windows 8 laptop with no slot for a disc, how do I install the creative suite? Was the IT guy just yanking my chain? I would greatly love to not have that software go unused.

Normally when you bought a Creative Suite the license is good for one platform or the other, but not both.  Though you might have had some special licensing arrangement for the school.
If you want to take a shot at it... you can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

Buy a "silent" ringtone from the iTunes Store. Or, if you don't want to spend $1.29, you can make your own by recording a 30 seconds of silence then converting it to a ringtone. I believe should be able to do that with Garageband on your iPhone. Or, do it on your computer.

Personally, I'd spend the $1.29 and be done with it.

  • How can i install mac os x snow leopard on Lion?

You cannot. Either you erase the drive on which you installed Lion then reinstall Snow Leopard or you create another partition on the drive and install Snow Leopard on that partition so you can dual boot.
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

It can't be discussed here because it's a violation of the End User License Agreement for Mac OSX.
    [http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx106.pdf|http://images.apple.com/le gal/sla/docs/macosx106.pdf]
"...you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single *_+Apple-branded computer+_* at a time...."
Since you're not allowed to install OSX on a non-Apple computer, we can't discuss it on these forums because that's a violation of the [Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms] for these forums.

  • How can you install Mac OS X Lion on a new, empty hard drive?

If the only way to install Mac OS X Lion is by downloading it via the Mac App Store, it's going to be very difficult to put it on a brand-new hard drive unless Apple provides us with workarounds,So what should we do when want to install Mac OSX Lion on new HD?
    ThanQ

What you get from the Mac App Store will be an Installer Application. You will be able to transfer that Installer from Mac to Mac. I have not seen it yet, but we may also be able to burn an installer disk, we shall have to see just how things work.
Apple has always been known as an innovative company. And when they announce something new folks always go nuts with reasons that this cannot work. When Apple stopped making Macs with floppy drives and iMacs only had optical drives, people went crazy. Today no one makes computers with floppy drives.

  • How can i install mac os x snow leopard on a macbook pro new hard drive

I replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro and I'm having difficulty installing Mac Snow leopard on the new hard drive. I press "C" when rebooting with the disk inside and all I get is "you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again" any suggestion?

Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
