In Design CC crashes on everything having to do with a file
I have a 48 page document, that was completely finished - by the way, that yesterday was working fine. This morning I go to open it and it crashes whenever I try to do anything...e.g replace a photo, output to an earlier CS file, etc. Have called tech support and downloaded all the plug-in bug fixes...nothing has worked. Have not uninstalled/re-installed...but have a feeling that won't make a difference.
Anyone experiencing something similar?
Hi Peter, thanks for the info - I'm up against a deadline and this has nearly brought me to tears (decided to open a bottle of wine, instead). Okay, so yes - with tech support I did install the patches earlier, didn't help.
Do you happen to know whether it's an issue with the fonts used in the document or just all the fonts I have in my fonts folder? I probably have less than a dozen fonts used in the document - but they're pretty standard one's like Myriad and Garamond, so doubt that would those be the issue? I really would like to avoid having to recreate the entire magazine… Literally finished it last night.

Quicktime playback component for windows download & install - Having no success with installation. File says it is Winquicktime MPEG2 - upon clicking it asks what program to open with - any thoughts - I've redownloaded it and tried to have it run vs. download and the same thing happens.
Nope---didn't work. I've owned Macs for about 12 years so although I am brain dead on some things, I do have a working knowledge on most things. I only say that to say this--I did try holding down the mouse and choosing empty trash. It asks if I want to permanently delete what's in there. I say yes--and then I get the same identical message again-----'The operation can't be completed because the item "Firefox 8.0.1.dmg" is in use I can then click stop, or continue.' So apparently that complains the same way it does if I click it up on the menu :)))
As for item owned by---that's not an issue and isn't coming up. User is not a problem either as I am the only user on this system. There is only ONE file in my trash at the moment at that is this dmg file. Nothing Mac. Nothing owned by anyone other than Firefox. The problem seems to be that the dmg file and the original 4.0 FF file are working in tandem with each other--even though I have already drug the new 8.0 globe into the Apps folder and it updated the FF app with the new stuff. If I could force the dmg file to go away, I would do so, but at every turn the system is telling me it can't be done because it seems to think that dmg file is in use---even though everything is shut down and/or ejected. Hey--I'm getting ready to head out and won't be back till evening. I'll check back in this evening. Thank you again for your help. -
Having a problem with app files and fonts between OS
I work in a prepress department, and we are have issues with files that are coming from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8. The 10.4.11 is a power PC and the 10.5.8 is Intel. Fonts get corrupt and display as a unix file with 0 file size and application files like Quark loose there ID and come up as a document file. I think this has to do with the OS difference. Is there any way that this can be fixed???
Well we are having the the same problem with folders. Jobs that are made on a 10.4 Mac, sometimes you can't see the contents of the folder on a 10.5 Mac. And there is no pattern.
And if you take the contents out of the folder and put it loose using a 10.4 Mac, you can see it on a 10.5 Mac
Also if we put a .dfont on the end to the font using a 10.4 Mac, you can see the font on a 10.5 Mac.
This is all very strange. There are no patterns and no reason why one folder would work and the other does not. Just checking if there is something that could be causing a problem between the OS's. -
Everything having to do with iTunes not opening
Hello I am having troubles with iTunes. When I click on the iTunes.exe, the mouse loads for half a second and then nothing happens. I've had iTunes work properly before. I just turned on the computer and clicked on iTunes, and it does nothing. I opened Task Manager and noticed that all of the iTunes processes were running. I've reinstalled iTunes but it still doesn't work.
I have the latest version of iTunes, and Windows 7.Try following steps and test one at a time:
1. Restart computer, right mouse click iTunes icon and select "Run As Administrator"
2. If that does not work, check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
MSCONFIG
Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
Restart Windows.
3. If that fails or you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:

4. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR -

I am having an issue with video file size increasing after editing in iMovie 11
So I start off my iMovie 11 video project with a .mp4 video file of roughly 900MB. After chopping off the beginning and ending (which is all I want to do) I have attempted finalizing and exporting using numerous options. The problem is, each time I do this my file turns into a 3.9GB .mov file! I don't want a huge file, I don't want a changed format file. I simply want to cut off the beginning and ending of my movie and leave everything else the same. Theoretically, this should make the file SMALLER since I am removing footage. Correct?
As you can probably tell, I am new to all this. But can anyone tell me how to keep my .mp4 file extension and simply delete the start and end?

If you want to just trim off pieces you can do that in QuickTime X, which is already installed on your Mac. Open the movie in the QuickTime X player. Now go to the Edit Menu and choose Trim... At the bottom of the window you will see a series of thumbnail images with a yellow highlighted box around it. To cut off the beginng pull in the handle along the left hand side of the yellow box. Same is true for the end grab the yellow handle on the right side and pull it in as well. Then click the Trim button, now you've got just the piece of the video you want to save. Now go to File > Save As... set the Format to be Movie (to keep it in the same file format as it started as.
This avoids all the transcoding/conversion that goes on when you import a video into iMovie. -
Having Compression Issues with Exported File
I started using FCPX and became a big fan. But recently I have switched back to Premiere because of wierd audio compression that happens when exporting. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a fix? At first I thought maybe it was me, but I imported the exact same file into both Premiere and FCPX and then exported them both as H.264 files. And low and behold, the FCPX file's audio was compressed and sounded bad, whereas the Premiere file sounded great. I really prefere using FCPX, but I won't until I can find a fix to this. PLEASE someone help! Thank you!
To remove the Adobe PDF Reader:
1. Drag the Adobe Reader folder from the Applications folder to the Trash
2. Remove AdobePDFViewer.plugin from the Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder
Macs offer good PDF capability in the operating system. You can use Word or other program to create somthing you want to save/send in PDF format, then choose print, click on the PDF button at the bottom of the print window, where you can choose to email the PDF file. -
Having some problems with disappearing files?
This has been very traumatic.
I have a Western Digital My Book, HFS+ hard disk, and recently I partitioned it in a way that caused errors, with an undeletable block of space. So I plugged it into a Windows computer, and moved the files over (MacDrive)
Some things that happened during this process: dialog boxes telling me "Macintosh Application information" would be lost.
The problem now: I used to put movies from this disk onto a Windows shared network drive, a NAS one.
Now, the movies do not show up in Windows Explorer. They also did not show up in finder until I used Terminal to force quit and relaunch it.
The files are in the folder, and using "Properties" in windows, they show up.

This is a huge issue for me, since I will need to save the PDF as dynamic everytime I work with it. I never had this problem last year when I first got Win 7 up and running, am wondering if a microsoft update along the way somehow has helped with this error. I've tried everything I could find in related posts.
I can save as XDP file, if that helps anyone. Just having this issue with dynamic PDF.

I have a document that I wrote today on my phone, went to open it again and the app kept crashing or it would only open half the file. Is anyone else having this issue? On the preview it shoes the whole file, but when I open it only shows a few paragraphs. When I email the file it only shows a few paragraphs, but when I go to open it both on my ipad and iphone it crashes the app.
Everything is up to date.I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

'm having a problem with downloading and installing the new version of itunes for windows (11.1.4) I have done everything the troubleshooting article has said and it is still not working properly. I have even done a repair to see if that works and it has not. Has anyone else found a new way to get it working?

I have a new hard drive as my old one crashed. Everything seemed to transfer fine except for my entire iTunes library. It shows all of my old songs, but when I click on one it states "the song could not be used as the original file could not be found.would you like to locate it".
Either how do I locate it, and I've tried every trick I know, or how do I restore all of my songs from one of two sources. I have my old hard drive backedup on an external drive which should have all of my songs, and I have most of my songs on my old iPhone 3S which I'm using as a backup iPod.The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

My hard drive crashed and everything on my laptop was lost... is there anyway to transfer the music that I had put onto my phone into the itunes on my computer ?
I have a similar issue. My hard drive crashed, so I had a new one installed and I'm basically starting from scratch on my computer. My iPhone has a lot of my stuff on it (photos and music in particular). When I plugged into iTunes I did a "back up" of my phone to the computer....this transferred the photos in my camera roll, and music purchased through iTunes.
So....I still have a ton of photos (saved in folders, not my camera roll), and music (older stuff not purchased through iTunes) that I want to get to my computer. I am scared to "sync" my phone in iTunes for the first time.....if I do this, will it make my phone match my computer (effectively erasing the stuff on the phone?). What I want is for my computer to match my phone (thus transferring the additional photos and music). Is the third party software the only way?? Does it really work well/is it worth the money?
