In Design crashing when placing text

I'm creating a book of essays related to my workplace. I created a table of contents, preface page and placed the initial essay (all from Microsoft Word) with absolutely no problems. When I went to place the second essay on a subsequent page of the document, all of a sudden I received a message from the InDesign program that said, "Adobe InDesign CS5 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."  I can place images with no problems and can do other things with InDesign but am at a loss at not being able to place a Word doc. I checked with our IT person and they weren't able to help. The project is due at the end of the month so I'm sweating it a little. Any thoughts?  Thanks.

It could also be some settings within your paragraph formatting within Word that causes the text to kick to the next page (overset text) - such as having a long line of text for a hyperlink and having it not hyphenate and/or break.  If a line of paragraph of text isn't allowed to break, it will try to fit in the next frame infinitely.
We work with a lot of files we have these types of issues with and, generally, it's related to a hyperlink or table that's setup too wide to fit on the page with the margins as they're setup or the hypenation setting is off.  You can also trying placing by click-and-dragging wider than the page to help determine where the issue originates within the new text.
Sometimes it's just something you would never notice until this error occurs.

  • InDesign CC crashes when placing text

Hi, InDesign CC updated to latest version and noticed it crashes every time i try and place a text file onto the document. I have uninstalled and then used CC Cleaner, removing preferences and manually deleting the folder. Have tried this several times but with no success.

Does this happen in one file, or in all files? If only one file, it could be corrupted. Export as IDML and reopen in InDesign.

  • InDesign CC crashes when selecting text

    Hello folks!
I have a serious issue here on my Windows 7 64bit notebook:
InDesign CC (and also CS6 before) keep crashing when selecting text.
I was still on CS6 when this failure appeared first. The strange thing is, it happens not always. When InDesign is opened new it will not crash instantly (most times). After some selecting random text a few times InDesign will crash with the well known "InDesign doesn't work anymore" message. There seems no pattern while selecting text (like special characters, certain fonts, whatever).
Tried to use CC – no luck! still crashing.
After some research in the forum I read, that this is very rare issue only occuring if there are more than 1 Windows accounts with both InDesign running. Indeed I made new account shortly before the first time this happened.
But sadly even after I completely wiped the second account, all my InDesigns (CS5, CS6, CC), all prefs, and also all fonts (as recommend in a thread with people havong trouble with just the type-tool itself) and all registry thingies the problem remains. Why?
Please help, it really kills the productivity.
    Thanks in advance for everything!

Well, wonky extension seems like a good idea, but can be withdrawed because I haven't installed one.
The font issue is also equally probable. As already mentioned: The interesting aspect here is, that both InDesign CS6 and CC will crash. It happened the first time when Windows decided to blue screen and f*** up my account (I wasn't able to log in anymore, I had to made a new one). I once read in another thread that there is a problem occuring when having multiple Windows accounts with InDesign running. Re-installing InDesign didn't help. Font problem after all?
I have installed at the moment:
    MainType
    NexusFont
    Typograf
and some small others, like: dp4 Font Viewer or FontViewOk

  • Designer crashes when checking for contexts or loops

Designer crashes when testing one of our universes for contexts or loops.  I implemented the solution suggested in #1377869, but it made no difference.  Checking loops/contexts in other similar universes (similar in complexity, connection, number and types of tables) does not crash Designer.  This happens to all Designer users, not just me, and from any computer, including the server.
We use BOXI R2; Fixpack 2.6.
    The universe uses DB2.

    Hi Ingo,
thank you for your help. My next step is to open a customer case. But what's about the logging? Is there a way to enable additional logging/trace for the BO Designer?
    Best Regards

  • Indesign crashes when placing PDFs

    All,
When placing PDFs in and Indesign file, it occasionally crashes. Usually when doing multiple pages, one at a time, some work and some crash.... although the ones that crash always crash and I cannot get them placed.
The goal is to put the PDFs in the file and add text and/or images over the PDF.
    Solutions?
    Power Book Pro OS 10.8.5
    Indesign CS 6

    Eugene,
Produced with IText 2.0.2 (by Iowagie.com), PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
However, some of the pages place just fine, and some crash every time. Suspect there's corruption on the crashing pages.
Is there a way I could save the file in a different format or program and open that into Indesign?

  • Indesign CS3 Crashes when loading text styles

hi all, i need some help.
Indesign cs3 keeps crashing when I try to "load all text styles" from one indesign file to another. the file has ten styles (character & paragraph). I'm currently working on windows 7.
thankyou for any information you can provide.

    Are you patched to 5.0.4?
Export both files to inx, re-open, Save As. (I checked, ID will not load styles from an inx)
Load just one style at a time to isolate a conflict.
Last resort, Highlight text from the source doc, paste into the new doc. I should carry in the style. It only needs to be a single charatcher.

  • DS Designer crashes when attaching UDC repo

    Hi,
Have just installed DS 3.2 SP2 on windows 2008 R2.
We have deployed the DS software on a server different from the server holding the SQL server repositories.
DS Designer is installed on desktops.
We have created a cleansing package repository and are now trying to attach the repository (using "manage connection") in the DS designer.
But when attaching the Designer crashes.
Not sure if it has any relevance, but we installed the SQL server native client on the client desktops to ensure proper connectivity to SQL server DBs and repositories.
More relevant could be the fact that we had to install the cleansing package on a client to seed the cleasning package repository. When running the repository manager on the server we are not able to create the repository, even if we have installed the 64 bit SQL server cnative client software. The repository manager simply replies that the repository we have specifed does not exist (Which is right), and then terminates (instead of creating the repository).
But as mentioned the repository was eventually created by using repository manager on a desktop client.
    Regards
    Thomas

  • Database crashes when placed in Archivelog mode

My production database continues to crash when I place it in Archivelog mode. This happen especially during the period most of the heavy jobs is running. On the other hand, I created a clone of this very same database on another server in Archivelog mode and it is running great. It’s also honest to say the jobs that run on the production are not running in the clone.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
