In-design CS4 Export to RTF format, .png & .eps images aren't displaying.

I have an InDesign CS4 document that has a combination of .png images, .eps images & text.  And I'm trying to export the main story that contains all the content to RTF format.  The export generates a .rtf file.  And when I view the document in a plain text editor such as Notepad or UltraEdit, I can see the images are there due to the lines & lines of image encoding.  But when I open it inside of Word 2010 or Word Pad, I don't see the images.  I just see the text.
I've tried generating the rtf export using the normal In-Design interface, as well as trying the sample javascript "ExportAllStories.jsx" that comes with CS4.  Both fail to generate an RTF doc with a readable .png or .eps graphic.
My Images are AchoredObjects inside of Rectangles.  I can provide the IDML export code if needed.
I've also verified that if I add an image into Word, be it .png or .eps & then save as RTF, the images are later viewable.
Is there a bug with In-Design CS 4 in how it generates .png & .eps images for RTF?

I think I finally figured this out. I move a lot of docts back and forth between InDesign and Word, and oddly enough - some of the PNG files WERE exporting from InDesign to RTF, but not others. So I knew that it wasn't impossible! My client gives me Word docts created using screenshots, sometimes over 200 graphics in one doct. I make sure they are all inline with the text in Word, which keeps them inline  when I place them in InDesign (although they are not "anchored objects" as such). All of the graphics were treated the exact same way, so why should some export to RTF and not all of them? I finally unembedded all the links to compare file properties, and there were absolutely no differences - except SIZE. I tested a few randomly, making some files bigger in Photoshop, and making others smaller, and that absolutely made the difference in whether they would export to RTF or not. The cutoff seems to be somewhere between 40-50 KB. So instead of discriminating against certain file types, that was just coincidental - since PNG files (and GIF) are generally so small.
But I'm still a little stuck as to the best workflow, given the quantity of image files I have in each doct. I tried creating an action in PS to change the image resolution from 72 to 150, applied it to the whole folder, then updated the links in InDesign. And yes, all but the very tiniest images are now exporting to RTF, but the image quality is crappy! I would love it if someone has any advice on  that.
Sorry, should have mentioned - this is InDesign CS5.

  • Export to RTF does not include images???

    Hi,
I ve written a script which converts a batch of indesign files to RTF files...I m using this script in a plugin in InDesign CS3 on MAC OS.
    I ve used this:
    exportFile(ExportFormat.rtf, f );
But the converted .rtf files does not include the images present in the .indd files...
what modification should be done to include images? is it possible?
    Someone pls guide me...
    Thanks.

No, that's not possible. The best you can do is to replace the images with their file names, then import those images in the application that you send the RTF files to.

  • Wordpad object in rtf format - XML publisher

We are trying to insert a Wordpad OLE object(Printer Signature Escape code Sequence) in the xml template and trying to generate the xml report in rtf format. When we generate the report or preview in rtf format the inserted Object Contents are not displaying. Any one faced this issue in xml publisher.
    This is what I did.
1.Open the XML template. In Word under Insert option Selected Object . Select the object type as Word Pad Object(In Create new Tab). Type somethinng.. I typed this as printer escapecode sequence ~(4B~(s1p53v0s
2.Loaded the XML data and tried to preview in RTF format the Object disappears and nothing displays in the place of Obejct.
When I preview in PDF format this displays. but PDF format is not supported by our troy printer.
This is we are doing to get the signature with printer escape code. It would be great if any one have any alternatives?. They are not going to give the Signature as an image.

  • Crash when exporting to RTF -Indesign CS4-

I am experiencing a crash each time I try to export a specific chapter of a book I am making to rtf format.
The original file had anchored objects (Numbered paragraphs) but since they are not carried over to the exported word file I have replaced them, so this mustn't be it. The text includes footnotes but no tables or any other demanding characteristics.
    All the following have failed:
I have tried to copy and paste the text to a new document and then export.
Just copy and paste into word.
Replace all fonts with the system Arial font and then export.
Just select a couple of paragraphs to export.
I am using Indesign CS4 patched to the latest available version and have not installed any external plugins.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm working on Windows XP and the fonts were just system OTF Times New Roman and at a later time I tried with Arial.
I finally found a workaround in this by trial and error. It seems the problem was caused by a particular paragraph. Once this paraph was removed, the rest of the document exported fine. And with later investigation I found that there was an "index marker" imported from word on the original text that was causing this.
It seems that you cannot (as yet) export to RTF when your document is using INDEX markers. I made one just to test it and this happens for indexes created in indesign, too.
I hope this bug is fixed. Thank you for your help.

  • Invalid year format while exporting into RTF

    Hi
I drawn an Line chart which contains year as x axis and amount as y axis. Here i can able to format the amout field to comma seperated values but i cant able to format the year field. So i used the option "for each year" in order part of chart expert.
While exporting to RTF using the designer it was exported correctly by showing the year value as 2000,2001,2002,etc..
but while exporting the same using JRC the year values are exported like 00,01,02,etc..
Please can anyone help me in this.
    Thanks
    Jayaprakash

Ensure that the runtime files for the JRC are at their latest patch level,  many charting issues have been repaired with various fixes.
If it doesn't fix your issue, you will have to try playing around with the chart settings in the report; often there is a way to force fields to display a certain way.
The JRC has a different engine than the report designer, and the way the engine generates charts and graphs is not as mature as it is for Crystal Reports.
There is a new version of the JRC being released next year; this one will be using a different engine and will likely fix alot of the present chart issues that are being experienced.

  • Hyperlink error : on Exporting crystal report to Editable RTF format

Hi , In my crystal report I have hyperlink which works normally. Now when I export this report to Editable RTF format; the hyperlink gives error "Error! Hyperlink reference not valid. "
    It works for other formats.
    Please help

This issue was patched for Crystal Reports XI R1
    Hot Fix Name: commonXIwin_chf.zip
    Adapt Number-ADAPT00408450
    Description:
When exporting a report with email hyperlink to editable RTF format,
    the links do not work.
    New Behavior:
    This is now resolved.
Here is a link to the hotfix:
    ftp://ftp1.businessobjects.com/outgoing/CHF/commonXIwin_chf.zip
If you are using XI R2 and are still encountering this, then please check that you have installed the latest service pack (SP3) - and if the issue still occurs, then this may need to be tracked as a bug again.  However my understanding is that this was fixed for R2

  • Format problem when export to RTF

    Hi,
Iam creating a RTF template, when export to pdf everything working fine. However, when i export to RTF(word) alot of document properties got lost such as :
font size default to 12 when it's blank line; page number are not re-start for multi sections; table properties not holding, header, footer and edge margin are not holding, etc...... Is there any way to fix these. I tried to create a word macro to fix some of the format problems, but the macro have to run manually instead of initialized form a text field option on exit. Any idea on how to fix or work around would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Do you know if and when Pages will provide support for tables in rtf format? (My school requires that I send all assignments rtf format.)
As Yvan points out, no one here can write what they know about it, and the vast majority of us know nothing about it.
You cannot take any decision based on the assumption that Pages will one day support tables in RTFs, because it may never happen. If you need both RTF and tables, the only option is another tool (like NeoOffice, TextEdit, MS Office and so on).

Looking forward for your help, as it is very urgent

    Hi Mohit
CR 8.5, being about 15 years old, does not support Windows 7. I am surprised this works for you with MS Office 2010 and to be honest, I'd consider my self lucky there. The fact that is does not work with office 2013... well, like I said, lucky with Office 2010 and your luck ran out with Office 2013.
Your option; rewrite the app in VS 2010 / 2012 / 2013 and use the CR Assemblies for VS .NET from SAP Crystal Reports, Developer Version for Visual Studio .NET. The CR Java SDK would be another option.

  • Flash CS4: why movie clips are static when exporting to video formats ?

Does anyone know why the movie clips are non animated when I export my flash animation into a video format ?
Please see the next flash example I made: (4 KB)
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22717206/Flash/flash_movieclip.swf
And now see how it looks like once exported into video format: (160 KB)
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22717206/Flash/Video_movieclip.avi

You must need a suitable codec for that like DivX codec, it will also import the nested movieclip animations. otherwise  whatever you have on the main timeline is exported for avi. you will get the codec on the export settings for avi.

  • Acrobat 9.4.2 does not save/export all graphic formats

    Dear all,
Obviously i had my glass of wine to early! See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/798630 for the whole story of my re-re-re-istallation of Acrobat.
The installation of 9.0 from the TCS2 DVD was OK
After update to 9.2 my tests displayed correct results for all desired tasks
After the update to 9.4.2 i obviously did not test thoroughly enough (hence the glass of whine).
Later it turned out that 9.4.2 does not save/export graphic formats:
pdf (all flavours), eps and ps are exported correctly
html (all flavours) export a html file and the image as jpg correctly
jpg, jp2 does not save anything, and no error message gives a hint
doc, rtf save issue error message "Save As failed to process this document. No file has been created"
png and tif do not save anything, and no error message gives a hint
xml table and xml export correctly
txt (both flavours) are exported correctly
Hence the only method i can get a picture is to export as HTML and through away the HTML... or: enlarge the picture as much as possible on the screen and take a screen shot.
What is missing in this installation?
During my re-re-re-installtions some Windows updates may have happened.
Any help available for this issue?
    Klaus Daub e

The story goes on and hopefully Adobe has an answer/fix for this
There was an automatic update from 9.4.2 to 9.4.3, but the problem still existed.
So I decided to uninstall Acrobat and re-install it for the nth time: start with the installation of 9.0 from TCS2, reboot, update to 9.2, reboot, update to 9.4.3 and reboot again.
The result is very mixed (and this was alrady with the newly installed 9.0):
Save as RTF or DOC creates RTF and DOC files - although the contents is not that useful.
    Save as PNG is OK
Save as JPG, JP2 or TIF works, but it turns out, that the files are all PNG (although with the various extensions)!
Creating a snapshot now works correctly. The clipboard receives a bitmap. However: although I have set the preferences for the snapshot to be of 96 dpi the bitmap gets the property 72 dpi!
Setting acrobat.exe to be Compatible to XP SP3 does not change a jota.
Keep in mind: on Windows XP things worked correctly for a long time. Switching to Window 7, x64 creates this strange problem.
I need to start with Acrobat from the TCS2 DVD, because otherwise I do not get the correct implementation for working with FrameMaker.
I'm very reluctant to buy Acrobat X, for me there are too many gimmics there (besides the costs).

  • DW CS3 problem with PNG-8 images in Design View?

DW CS3 (build 3481) on XP seems to have problems with PNG-8 images, specifically trying to display them in design view.
I had a very simple image that was able to be exported by Fireworks CS4 as PNG-8 using 4 colors (no transparency) for a tiny file size under 250 bytes.
DW could not display it at all, or even recognize it, reporting it was 0 x 0 in size. I published the page anyway, and it looked fine in the browser.
I upped the number of colors to 32, and DW could then display it in design view in the page I was working on.
I'm still having problems with other PNG-8 images. The attached file "temp.jpg" is a screenshot showing part of the design view in DW.
The smaller image on the left of the banner is "58_certificate_of_discharge.png" (attached), and the larger image below is used as the background of the DIV containing the form,"compassbk.png" (also attached).
These images all look fine in the browser, but terrible in DW.
    I'm stumped as to why.
    Thanks in advance.

According to a different discussion, the images that are stuck as "Queued" are showing a bug in the virus scanning on the forums.
Now trying the recommended 'camera icon' method...
    Looks like it worked.
Now compare what it looks like in DW CS3 in the design view:
    It's a 16 color PNG-8 made in Fireworks CS4 with no transparency, size is 113 x 58, ending up at 1.71K.
If this is a repeatable problem in CS3, is there any hope of it being resolved, or am I stuck with upgrading to CS4 as my only option (assuming it's fixed in CS4)?
    Thanks.

  • FW CS4 need help with gradients & png files

Relatively new to FW CS4.  I have a png file for use in a PV7 css based site.  Read the docs and still can't figure this out.  The png file is a base image with 3 color sections.  I need to change these three original individual sections to a new color scheme...I can use a regular fill...but I would like to keep the slight fading effect of the original pngs.  In addition...the png's are obviously in png format..but if I export as jpg will I loose the gradient fill/opacity effect in a jpg file ?
Original png...want to change to light blue tones: Note the fading to the right side of the outside columns.
If not...how do I change the color scheme in each section of the original png ?  Or do I export as is and modify the resulting jpg's ?
If I use a gradient fill or paint bucket...the effect just overlays the original gold type color...giving me a new color all together with the original background still partially showing through underneath the new color change ?
If I delete the gold tones in the png image...then I can't fill the empty space with any other color...nothing works.  I've also tried color find/replace
but with no results or changes.
Second problem is when I do apply gradient fills to this png...or jpg...the fill seems to me to be from top to bottom of the section ?  I need the fill to move from left to right as above ?  Any ideas here also ??
I posted on the PV7 FW group but it's not that active and was more confused by the answers ?
    Thanks much...I'm stuck for now.
    Tim

After following Lorains' gradient link, when you have the first box tweaked to your liking and you need it replicated to the remaining two boxes (without having to go through the process again)
    1. Select the box that has the new Gradient, then Edit > Copy (or Ctrl/Command + C)
Then select the remaining two boxes that need the new gradient style, then Edit > Paste Attributes
This process with carry over (copy/paste attributes) the first box to the others.
    Or
    2. Select the box that has the new Gradient changes, then in the Property Inspector (PI), to the far right, tick the small icon under to create a New (Object) Style. Once created, open the Window > Styles Panel. Select the two remaining boxes on the canvas then click the New Style icon in the Styles Panel to apply.
    1. is memory resident/temporary and will be lost when you later utilize the Copy command. But 2 has more 'staying' power and you can reuse it, go back to it, save it to disk, and tweak it further to create new ones at any time.
If you absolutely have to keep the final result as a .jpg, then turn off the Canvas color. Open the Window > Optimize Panel, set the output to jpg, BUT set the MATTE color to the color that matches the background of your page.
Otherwise, output to .png8/png32 with Transparency .

  • RTF Formatting Issue for a Conventional Report

    Hi,
I have started using XML Publisher. I am unable to do one of my requirement to design the RTF template because of following issues. My report should look like this.
    |....|........................|.....................|
    |....|....Name...........|.......Value......|
    |.1..|......AAA..........|........100........|
    |.2..|......BBB..........|........200........|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |....|.......................|......................|
    |..........Total..........|....Cont./Sum...|
    |..................................................|
    |.............................Page.X.of.Y....|
I have a requirement to design a template in RTF like the one shown above. Here I wanted to place a page break as soon as the group member records are printed. And I need to print the sum (this is already stored in a tag in the XML) against Total. But, if the number of records are more than what can be accomodated in a page, I need to print "Continued.." and till it come to the last page where i can print the sum. Also, I need to display the page number right below the Total.
I have created the basic design, but I have the following issues:
I have placed the Total section in the footer and then, Page break (both with Ctrl-Enter and <?split-by-page-break:?>) doesn't seem to be working.
If i place the Total in the body section, i need to print remaining part of the body with dummy lines, otherwise, the Total will come right below the last record. I want the Total to be in the bottom of the page.
Any help in resolving this is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joby

This problem has been solved in 5.6.1 - you can now have a different page format
for the last page, so you could put the summary table into the footer of the last page.
Please check "Last page only content" in the 5.6.1 user guide (page 2-46)
    Hope that helps,
    Klaus

  • Reports exported to Excel - Formatting issues

We have two Business Objects Enterprise servers (boxi r2 and boxi r3.1 sp3) running side by side.  We find that reports created using boxi r2 and exported to Excel format look fine.  When we run the same report and export to excel using boxi r3.1 sp3, we encounter the following formatting issues:
    <ol>
<li>All columns do not fit on pages.  The last 2 to 3 columns spill over onto extra pages.</li>
<li>There are some columns where most of the values are blank, but when a row is exported that has a value in that column, all subsequent column positions for that row shift.</li>
<li>All rows do not fit on page.  The last two rows flow onto a new page, then there seems to be a page break.</li>
