In Design CS5 Spell check skipping text boxes

I'm running Mac OSX 10.5.8 on my MacBook.
I am working on a menu with a number of text boxes. When I do spell check it seems to only check the box where the cursor is located. I have tried doing Cmd+A ( to select all the boxes on a page) and it doesn't seem to help.
I have dynamic spelling enabled, but there are words I know spellcheck dislikes that don't have red lines beneath them.
I have all the preferences checked and Language:English:USA is in place. Case sensitive is also checked.
Any ideas? I'm nervous I'm going to miss a spelling error which will doubtless subject me to endless ribbing from my coworkers. However, selecting the actual words in each individual text box will take forever.

You can create a character style with the language property, such as French, and any other specific properties you like. ID uses the specified [EDIT] language's ]/EDIT] dictionary when spell-checking content, so "bleu" tagged with the French character style will pass the checker, but "bleu" tagged by default as your default language, like the overwhelming preponderance of your text, will be detected as an error.

What language is assigned to the file? Make sure that the More Options are shown in the Character panel and at the bottom, what language is assigned?

Why does spell checker skip some text captions?

I spell checked my project and found typos. But there was another typo on the very first slide, first text caption, which it left behind. Why did it do this?
I thought, maybe this typo is in my dicitonary, so I deleted more letters from the word, and it still did not find it.
Then, my search on this topic I found advice to export all captions to Word and spell check there, then reimport back into Captivate. Is there something I don't understand here? Why does spell check find some errors and not others?
Please straighten me out.

Just a WAG here, but what had focus when you kicked off the spell checker? My thought here is that many spell checkers work in "directions". For example, in some apps, you choose whether you search from the selected point forward or from the selected point backward. So assuming Captivate is programmed to work in "this point forward" mode only and you have perhaps slide three selected, that would explain why earlier slides would be skipped.
Note that it's only a theory at this point. Either way, I'd strongly suggest you consider filing a bug report to the development team about it so they can investigate. (Link to the reporting form is in my sig)

Indesign CS5 hangs when resizing text box

I have looked at 20 pages of discussion and not found an answer.
Every time I resize a text box Indesign will hang. It's a 380 page book, not every text box but some and the problem includes adding or deleting lines to make text move to a different page. Of course, the text is imported from a word doc.
I have done all the usual stuff, checked and removed fonts, deleting preferences and cashes, exporting as an interchange doc and reopening. Nothing works.

First, thanks to all who responded to my problem. My first time using the forums.
It seems the footnotes are the problem causing ID to hang when text is reflowed.
I have published longer books with longer text threads with no problem, but that was with CS1 and no footnotes. I upgraded to CS5 in December.
Previous books have had footnotes at the end, which makes them endnotes I guess, but for this book the client wanted footnotes on the bottom of the page on which they occur.
I broke the thread and I'm replacing the text boxes two pages at a time. Format them like I want, than place two more. This way all text which is reflowed is hidden and not really reflowed. After several hours and almost a hundred pages, no hangs or spinning beach balls.
My system is a 24" iMac with OSX 10.6.6 and 4 GBs of RAM.
I've not worked with cross references and it sounds like I don't want to.

Problem with Spell check in text area

i have a item called text area with spell check. In that i have very large text. When i run spell check it open another windows and gives this message 'Checking spelling, please wait...' since last 4 hrs i have same windows.

It's not Pages which learn the document, it's the spell checker.
I wish I could help the OP. Pages on his machine isn't working as it should. Ignore option should take of the red line.
So, my machine is odd too.
When I click ignore, the spell checker no longer halt on the word but it continue to underline it.
As the OP didn't gave a sample we don't know what is the exact problem.
If he want to leave a misspelling in the doc, 'learn' is not a good soluce.
If he want to add a word to the list of allowed words, 'learn' is the soluce.

CS5: Spell Checking in Preview Mode?

I like to compose in a WYSIWYG interface, so I use Preview Mode to dodge all the visual distractions. I may be mistaken, but it seems like the upgrade to CS5 killed the ability to see spellcheck cues in Preview. I guess it makes sense, but I was wondering if there is a pref or a setting I am missing to enable it. Thanks!

Are you talking about Dynamic Spelling or the traditional spell checker under the edit menu?
The latter should be showing you highlighted words it finds, the former disappears.

"Alert: Couldn't contact spell checker" in text fields

Whenever I put my cursor in a text field of any type (login, password, search, filling a form) in Safari, I get a spinning rainbow wheel and then a message that says Alert: Couldn't contact Spell Checker. If I click Okay, I have about two characters worth of typing again before I get the same alert. Making it very difficult to do much on Safari at the moment. This only started recently (within past two days). Any ideas? Can I just turn off the spell checker or auto-fill function to make the error go away?

Thanks, Peggy, I tried this solution, but alas I'm still getting the same alert message.
It is odd, though, that I have Spell Catcher still installed and running on another computer (same OS 10.5.1 and Pages 3) without this problem. Now Spell Catcher has been completely removed from this computer, but the problem persists. Spotlight finds no trace that I ever had CocoAspell (and I don't remember ever using it either).
Any other notions.
I did, by the way, restart after deleting the traces.

Design Template to change ONLY text boxes

I am afraid of the Design Template option because all I need to do is globally change ALL the text in my project to be ARIAL 11.... while it seems that Design Template would do this, there are all these other captions, buttons, etc. on there and I want those left alone.
There seems to be no way to delete pages or features from this strange thing called Design Templates... does anybody know... if I apply this Design Template will all of my other buttons, boxes, headings, etc. change also?
What a horrible idea if it is so. Completely worthless for the person who has been give ONE design change only.

Because it DOESN'T WORK worth a crap, that's why.
"Apply to All" is the most overrated feature in this product, in my estimation. (Well, aside from Aggregator). It has hit or miss results, and when it by chance DOES work, it changes a bunch of other stuff too, such as header graphics deleted.
Wish it did work though, I am having to change each and every text box by hand.

Replacing rich text editor is definitively a goog and simple solution.
steps are :
1-download
2-copy files
3-replace one file
4-Invalidate web cache
5-celebrate the new RTE
I use FCK Editor with spell checking and ity works good.

You do not tell which version you are using? And I suppose you are talking about a Text Entry Box?
If you want to check if the right text is entered, you'll have to tick 'Validate User Input' in the General accordion of the TEB Properties panel.
A HUD will appear under the TEB, labeled Correct Entries. With the + button you can add correct values (text that is correct when the TEB is validated), eventually check the 'Case Sensitive' option.
In the Options accordion you can check the captions to appear (like for a button or a click box).
When the user clicks the Submit button or uses the shortcut key for the TEB, one of two actions (Action accordion) will be performed:
Success: if the text was correct, you can choose there for 'Go to Next Slide'

VI Analyzer spell check skips VI Description

I can't seem to get the VI Analyzer to catch spelling errors in the VI Description.
Is this functionality broken or unavailable?
Attached is an example VI that when Analyzed under default Analyzer setting won't catch the obvious spelling errors in the description.

The way the test currently works, the "Visible Text" in VI Information is the VI Name on disk and the VI Title. When you check "Non-Visible Text", that includes the VI Description and the VI History.

How can I enable spell checking for a text box that is just one line, e.g. subject in e-mail?

In a prior version of Firefox I found a website somewhere that told me what to do to enable spell checking for text boxes that are just one line. I got used to being able to send an e-mail with a Subject Line that didn't have a misspelling. Now it doesn't work. Please tell me how I can enable that again. I am on a Mac using Firefox 6.0.2. Thanks!

You can set the pref layout.spellcheckDefault to 2 on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

I believe the spell checking you see here, or on any other site, is the spell checking built into Firefox. At least that's what I see. Are you using Firefox?
