In Design Hyperlinks

How to open up the hyperlinked url in the new tab if the pdf file is open in the browser window?
Basically if you want to open up the hyperlinked url in the new tab, in HTML we use target="_blank". I don't know if this can be done in In Design and how.
Please help. thank you in advance.

If this is possible at all, it's done by changing the hyperlink in the PDF, using Acrobat Pro. You cannot change it from within InDesign, so ask in the Acrobat forum if (and if so, how) it can be done.

Crystal Report Designer : Hyperlink issue

EnterpriseHyperlink u2026. Is iDocId same even if I delete and redeploy the report in BOServer.to avoid this confusion I am trying to use sDocName but it always says that File not found.Also can I open the EnterpriseHyperlinked reports as different tabs in the main report (and not in same or different window)

The iDocID will change if you delete the report and then import it. If you overwrite the existing one instead, that should keep the ID.
It is not possible to open hyperlinked reports in different tabs in the main report.

Hyperlinks to web pages don't work in Captivate 7 or 8

When I design hyperlinks to web pages work but once published they don't. How do i get hyperlinks to web pages to work in Captivate 7 or 8

I should have read that more closely.
It doesn't seem to apply. The only reason that would matter is if you were running the SWF-output from Captivate locally.
ALWAYS test your product from the web to avoid any such security issues.
But yes, if you're putting the published file on a local/network drive, then that security change will need to be applied and, yes, for every computer that accesses the file.
You definitely want to distribute from an HTTP location.
I did hope the first part of that article would help. They're not difficult to setup once you find the option. Just highlight some text and right-click to setup the hyperlink...right?

Quicktime Export, Hyperlinks Only Option, What's The Problem?

Upon exporting the slideshow using QuickTime option (Hyperlinks only, CD-ROM Movie), the slideshow fails to initialize, the hyperlinks seem to function quite well but the slideshow still progresses everytime the user clicks on other parts of the screen. Doesn't "hyperlinks only" mean advancing to the desired page on a designated "hyperlinked" link only?
What seems to be the problem here?

HMMM....the links seem to be working using "hyperlinks only" mode with "apple intermediate codec" but the thing is, it fails to show the linked slide when it's clicked on the remaining slides! aaargh!

Problem with Hyperlinks - Creating Interactive PDF from an In-design Book

Im working on producing a Interactive PDF from an In-design Book which consists of 9 Indesign Documents.
The problem I am having is with Navigation when I export the pdf
When I export out to 'Interactive' pdf the hyperlinks DONT link to other documents
When I export out to 'print' pdf the hyperlinks DO link to other documents but the buttons to 'Go to next page' no longer work

Why is the character style for hyperlinks not displaying correctly in design mode/viewing/output?

I am using RH9 and generating WebHelp, and I needed to globally bump up the font size of just my hyperlinked text. I went into my Style Sheet > Character tab, changed the font size of the various character settings for hyperlinks, and clicked Apply and then OK. Normally, this would change all of my hyperlink text font sizes immediately across all of my topics. However, this time, it made no changes to any existing hyperlinked text, and it only affected new hyperlinks that I subsequently added. For the existing hyperlinks, I can only manually change the font size of the each hyperlink one at a time, but that's crazy (there's 100's in this help).
I can successfully change other characters styles and paragraph styles. This issue only affects the hyperlink character styles. It also shows up in all RH modes - Design mode, viewing, and in the final output.
Is this an indication of a corrupted style sheet or some other combination of events that I have yet to discover?

You probably have inline styling in your project overwriting the font size of your style sheet. How are you changing the font size of the individual hyperlinks?
There is a workaround for inline styling: Open your CSS in notepad and add !important after the font-size:
font-size: 4pt !important;
Note that this is a workaround, not a solution. As a solutions you can remove all the style attributes from your hyperlinks to force them to take the CSS styling again.

New Browser Window from Hyperlinks on PDF created in In Design

I am creating PDF documents using In Design CS3. The PDFs have hyperlinks to other PDFs as well as hyperlinks to webpages. The finalized PDF is being accessed through our website as a link on the webpage. The PDF is opening in a new browser window/tab and the hyperlinks are working great. My problem is this: How do I get it so that the hyperlinks on the PDF open to a new browser window as well. Currently, when I click a link, it changes the current browser window that the PDF is in. I want to set this so that anyone, from any computer will have it so that the link opens a new window/tab.

In Adobe Acrobat (the application, not the .pdf reader) use the Link Tool to edit the hyperlinked text object. Remove the “Open a web link” action assigned by default to handle the hyperlinked text when clicked. Assign a new action to the linked text that will open the hyperlink in a new window.
Note: The links have to be established each time you create a PDF – they do not carry over from In Design or any other software.
1.     Access the Link tool (Tools > Advanced Editing > Link Tool)
2.     Right click on the hyperlinked text and select Properties
3.     In the Link Properties dialog box click on the Actions tab
4.     In the middle of the Actions panel in the Actions section click on the Open a web link action listed there to select it.
5.     Click the Delete button located just below that section in the lower right corner. This removes the action from the list and the Actions section should now be empty.
6.     In the Add an Action section right above the Actions section click on the Select Action drop down menu and select the Run a JavaScript action from the list.
7.     Click the Add… button.
8.     In the JavaScript Editor that opens up, click your cursor in the Create and Edit JavaScripts area, like you would in a word processor to begin typing, and type the following line:
app.launchURL("http://www.MySampleURL.com/someFolder/somePage.html", true);
9.     Change the hyperlink text between the quotation marks to your desired URL.
Ex: app.launchURL("http://www.cnn.com", true);
Caution:
1.     The code is case sensitive so make sure you typed app.launchURL NOT app.launchurl or some other case combination.
2.     Make sure that you have quotation marks around your hyperlink URL.
3.     Make sure there is a semicolon at the end of the line of code you just typed.
4.     Make sure that the quotation marks are straight up and down – not on an angle.
10. Click OK to close the JavaScript Editor dialog box.
11. Click OK to close the Link Properties dialog box.
12. Save the .pdf and test your .pdf hyperlink by opening the .pdf document in a browser, click the link and check to see that it opens in a new browser window.

Can you add Hyperlinks in Adobe LiveCycle Designer

Paul has some solutions for this.
The following tread has two solutions:
(1) set up invisible objects (like textfields) throughout the form and then script setFocus to those fields.
(2) If using LC 8.1 you can add hyperlinks.

Sorry, just reread your question. In relation to opening other PDF files from within a form, you are going to come up against a security error. This will require you to have a JavaScript (.js file) in the JavaScript folder within the Acrobat programme folder. This .js file will also have to be deployed to all users' computers.

I am not sure if this would suit your requirements, but another solution is to create a Portfolio with the required PDF files inside the portfolio. Then it is easy to create a link between the files using the "Link Tool".

Hyperlinks Don't Work in Preview/Publish Mode - Correct in Design View

I am having trouble with hyperlinks. I've deleted existing hyperlinks, then copied and pasted addresses back in but it is still not working. Any idea why this is happening.

To the right of each album the links for amazon, itunes and cdbaby do not work. They DO work for the Bunky Moon album but I cannot discern any difference. In Muse design view, the hyperlink addresses are correct when I select the amazon, itunes or cdbaby element.
Also - when I copy a page URL from this site - it pastes the title tag. For example:
www.ronbrendle.com/reviews.html becomes "Brendle is a monster bassist." JazzTimes
Please help if you can.

If PDFTEX is used, any PDF(R) viewer can be used, but hyperlinks don’t work in viewers using Apple’s(R) PDF code (e.g. Preview, iTEXMac, TEXShop, Skim...), so you may want to have Adobe Reader(R) or Acrobat installed to test your hyperlinks.

In Design Crashes when resting HyperLinks

I have done HyperLinks for many documents to external URLs. Never had a problem, but now iInDesign creashes when I try to create a new hyperlink. Either with the icon on the window or the drop down menu. The program automatically crashes.
How can I fix the crashing issue?

Start by restoring your InDesign preferences. Here's how:
Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences
You didn't specify Mac or PC, and what version of the OS. If you're on a recent Mac, to find the <Home> Library folder referenced in that document, go to the Finder. Hold down the Option key and select Go > Library to view that folder.

Text Links (Hyperlinks) Designer 8.0

I have designed a form in Designer 8.0 and some of my text needs to be linked to parts of a website.
I know you can enter links in Adobe Acrobat but once the tds file is turned into pdf this functionality is blocked.
I have tried many things, with no luck.
So if you know how to create a text link or alter the security settings once in a pdf that would be great!

I have been using xfa.host.gotoURL("http://www.xyz.com/test.html");
which does not work with an invisible button so I create a custom button that looks like a text field. I do not know how to
implement your approach which will no doubt work with an invisible button. (I am using LifeCycle Designer 8).
I would appreciate a specific example and, if possible, to show me how to open the URL in a new window. My approach
xfa.host.gotoURL("http://www.xyz.com/test.html" target="_blank");
fails.

Page design breaks when I add hyperlinks

This page looked fine before I added some hyperlinks:

In my Muse layout, the narrow column headed "Other articles on LEAP" is actually placed to the right of the "LEAP in the News" column. The column appeared correctly on the website until added a few hyperlinks to it. The new hyperlinks work, but the column is out of place and isn't wide enough so there are too many line breaks.

I re-exported the entire site using Muse's built-in FTP client. I directed the export to a temporary test folder I had created on Go Daddy so I could make sure everything worked before making the test site the live site. Instead of getting a test site, the export became the live site. The problem with the Press page went away and is working fine. The problem now is that the Edge animation I had on these two pages isn't working:

I have to figure out how to fix these ASAP, because the first of the two pages is the one viewers first come to and they're missing an important message.
When I originally put the site together before launching it in July, it was very tricky getting the Edge files to work in Muse. Is there a different way to marry Edge with Muse now? Are there particular Edge files that need to be placed in particular folders when going live?

Hyperlink destination names disappear when incopy stories returned to designer

in indesign cs3 i made a bunch of links in a catalog i'm working on, within chapters, between chapters and to urls. incopy stories were packaged and sent to the editor. when the package was returned after edits, and stories in indesign were updated, the hyperlink destination names all disappeared and became generic. this is a major impact on meeting my deadline. did i mess up? is this a bug? any and all suggestions are welcome.

MUSE Hyperlinks not working - HELP!

I am working on a new design of an existing site in Adobe Muse. I've moved images but not changed them. My internal hyper links from page to page don't work. I've cancelled them and redone the links and still no link. The text boxes - same thing. They show links but don't do anything when previewed in browser or any other method. Much of this (text and images) was used previously on the site and worked. Help!

Please share the site URL. Also, please make sure that there is no other element on the top of objects having hyperlinks.
