In Design in Win 7

I spent a day with the trial version of In Design in hopes of creating a decent eBook and thus far I'm finding it a none working peice of software in windows 7. It is not doing what it should do. Being connected to the cloud while using it has not provided any benefit. The help videos are not helpful to specific workflow problems. Subscribing to a Cloud to get it to work is not a feasible method of working it out. Is there a manual for the product? I'm finding it quite "undone". How long did it take me to find out I had to check preveiw in a certain window to even see my project? Text overflow and linking to another page is not working. I have to highlight, open the story editor, and see what the overflow is and copy, delete, paste to another page. Your tutorial on eBooks did not work in Windows. Please tell me your wonderful and Paint Shop Pro based program will work in a senseable manner?

From within InDesign, if you press F1 or click InDesign Help on the Help menu, you will see the InDesign Help TOC page. Here is the Help hub page URL: http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign.html
You can easily export your InDesign content to EPUB. Here are the resources on how to do it: http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/topics/exporting-publishing.html

Yes/No/perhaps/maybe? You won't know until you try. Windows programs are generally backward compatible, but of course there most definitely will be specific problems like needing to manually adjust user permissions or getting things like printing functions to work.

  • Xilinx SDAccel and NI LabVIEW Communications System Design Suite win a pair of EETimes/EDN ACE Ultimate Product Awards

Last night, EETimes and EDN presented a number of ACE Awards including twelve “Ultimate Product” awards. The Xilinx SDAccel Development Environment for C, C++, and OpenCL won the Ultimate Product Award in the Development Kits category.
    EETimes/EDN 2015 ACE Awards
    From the SDAccel entry form:
“The SDAccel development environment for OpenCL, C, and C++, enables up to 25X better performance/watt for data center application acceleration leveraging FPGAs and combines the industry’s first architecturally optimizing compiler supporting any combination of OpenCL, C, and C++ kernels, along with libraries, development boards, and the first complete CPU/GPU-like development and run-time experience for FPGAs. SDAccel streamlines the development and deployment of critical algorithms such as Deep Neural Networks used in machine learning.
SDAccel includes the industry’s first architecturally optimizing compiler that makes efficient use of on-chip FPGA resources along with a familiar software-development flow based on an Eclipse integrated design environment (IDE) for code development, profiling and debugging, providing a CPU/GPU-like work environment.
SDAccel leverages Xilinx’s dynamically reconfigurable technology to enable accelerator kernels optimized for different applications to be swapped in and out on the fly. The applications can have multiple kernels swapped in and out of the FPGA during run-time without disrupting the interface between the server CPU and the FPGA for nonstop application acceleration. This functionality is ideal for swapping applications during peak loading periods.”
(Note: For more information about the Xilinx SDAccel design environment, see “CPU/GPU-like software development environment for OpenCL, C, C++ delivers FPGA-based app acceleration with 25x better performance/W,” “and “Latest SDAccel release adds 4 new hardware dev platforms, 4 new libraries, 6 new design services firms.”)
Vinay Singh accepts an ACE Award for the SDAccel design environment from Max Maxfield
The LabVIEW Communications System Design Suite from National Instruments (NI) won the ACE Ultimate Product Award in the Software category. NI’s LabVIEW Communications System Design Suite combines software defined radio (SDR) hardware with a comprehensive, unified software design flow to help engineers prototype 5G systems. The package includes built-in application frameworks for WiFi and LTE that enable wireless developers to focus on creating specific components based on existing standards rather than designing new algorithms from scratch.
The LabView Communications System Design software is coupled with the company’s USRP software-defined radio development platform for 5G research, which is based on a Xilinx Kintex-7 All Programmable FPGA. Wireless engineers can use the NI USRP RIO and the NI LabVIEW Communications System Design software to rapidly prototype real-time wireless communications systems and test them under real-world conditions.
(Note: For more information about the NI LabVIEW Communications System Design Suite, see “LabVIEW Communications System Design Suite combines SDR hardware with a unified software design flow for 5G development.”)
Congratulations to all of the talented developers from both National Instruments and Xilinx who created these award-winning products.

  • Is there a way to get Creative Suite CS5 Design Standard (Win XP version) to run on a new Apple OSX Maverick?

I understand Adobe's license is for the Win or the Mac environment, but not both. I installed VMWare's Fusion and Windows 7 Pro on the Mac but that did not work. Is there anything I can do besides purchasing a new license?

    Thanks Steve,
I find this so discouraging. As a self-published author, I scraped together some money to purchase CS5 Design Standard about 2 years ago. My most recent manuscript has taken longer to develop, and then Microsoft abandoned Win XP for an inferior product (Win 8.1 which is why I went to an Apple). I need Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator at a minimum to independently publish my work.
With Cloud at $49.99/month, I would never regain that expense in my profits over several years. Even CS6 Design Standard at $1300 is out of my price range. Independently published authors rarely make a profit and I am in that category. My discouragement is that this may stop my work - because of a product that I already own! I am recently retired and find that one of the two things I was going to do in retirement may go away.
    Discouraged,

  • UCCE 9.x design with Win Server 2008 R2

    hi all,
How should i plan my partitions in Win 2008 Server design if staging guide to UCCE 9 tells about having partiton C and D, but doesn't have reccomendations in allocations.
Our customer got 125 Call Agents, and here are recomendations for virtualising in attached file below.
In  my opinion for SQL server machines i should separate between Disk C and Disk D moving all DB data to D. But in a case of Win 2008 machines w/o SQl 2005 server possible to leave Disk C only.
    Any comments would be appreciated!

The OVA files don't have windows and mssql.. perhaps i mislead you with this didnt mean to...
The OVA files contain the virtual machine configuration only (how many vCPU, vRAM, vHDD, ...). The supported method for deployment of the UCCE system is to create the virtual machines using the OVA files..
For the ROGGER and AW-HDS virtual machines, the OVA file creates 2 harddisks (which will map to C and D drives). For the PG, the OVA file only contains a single harddisk (C).
You will then install windows and mssql on the virtual machines yourself. However, you don't have to worry on how many drives or the resources configuration, as this will be automatic

  • Impossible install or uninstall Adobe CS4 Design Premium - Win

    Hello,
I own a license for Creative Suite Design Premium Educational Ita Cs4, installed in Windows Vista 32 bit SP1.
After 3 or 4 months from installation (and a malware infection) Acrobat didn't start displaying error "Licensing for this product stop working". Other programs works, only Indesign speaks English and not Italian.
After several trials I decided to uninstall Acrobat Pro 9 and then reinstall it. I uninstall Acrobat Pro 9 and then problems starts...
After the uninstallation I was unable to use Adobe DVD for installing or uninstalling any program. When I click on Setup.exe appears Installation windows but when I choose install nothing happens. (In Windows Task Manager there is Setup.exe process).
So I try to uninstall Creative Suite to make a new clean installation but it,s impossible using Adobe DVD, Windows Cntrol Panel or program such Revo Uninstaller. In Revo Uninstaller and Windows Installation Manager Creative Suite and single applications simply disappears.
All this works was done as administrator.
    Someone could help me?
    Luca Bramardi - Italia

Read the license agreement . There will be a lot of impenetrable legalese gobbledygook in it, no doubt, but I bet it will be crystal clear on the subject of how many computers the software can be installed and activated on at once.
    My money is on one.

  • Can Forms designed in WIN NT environment be run on Linux ?

    Hi All,
i have my applications in Forms6i under NT environment, can it be
run on linux without making any changes. Please tell my how can
i port this onto linux environment.
    Thanks
    Dabeer

... and they can also go back again !
The biggest pain is that NT is case insentive and linux is case
sensitive. It is very easy to develope under NT only to find
nothing compiles under linux because a library has mixed case -
my particular favourite is Ofgcall.pll (supplied from Designer)

  • Can I use WIN 8.1 drivers for WIN 7 ?

    I have HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p147ne
it is coming with windows 8.1
I've installed widows 7 on it, coppied the drivers from win 8.1
now when I installed the drivers on win 7 , it keeps telling me that these drivers may crash the system
I continued the process >> updated the drivers after installation
    windows is now working
    The question is
Are these drivers (which are extracted from windows 8.1) will affect the hardwares of the PC ??? even if they are not designed for win 7 ?
will there be any problem in the performence ?

    Hi:
If the drivers are working, then you can reasonably expect them to continue working.
If you ever have a problem with the performance or drivers, etc., you can use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software from this model on yours except the BIOS and firmware files).

  • Acrobat 8 Pro not compatible with Win 7 Pro 64

When I changed from Win XP Pro to Win 7 Pro I could not transfer Acrobat 8 Pro. Adobe Support just informed me that Acrobat 8 Pro was not designed for Win 7 and that's it. This was pretty frustrating and gave me the opportunity to search the market. I am going to switch to PDF Suite that is coequal to Acrobat but hundreds of times favorable in price!

Support gave you the correct answer. The new underpinnings of Windows 7 makes it impossible for Acrobat 8 to function properly. It should not surprise you that new OSs require new software. Acrobat 9 is very nice software, you can get an special upgrade price from 8 to 9. Acrobat 10 is likely to be available real soon now. There are many programs available to create pdfs. Office can do so natively. If that is all you need then Acrobat may not be for you. However, for some there is nothing quite like Acrobat.

  • Just some thoughts for Win Users.

I am not an expert but just a regular forum brouser.
Is your system mother board is designed for Win XP? Yes,
then that is what you have got max user RAM 3GB. Your system board may accept two 2GB sticks but the system will only use a max of 3GB. Do not overclock your processor or activate the /3GB option, will not help you on PS or LR but may only cause problems.
You only get what you pay for no more, no less.
Win Vista same advice use what the system is designed for.
Win 7, make sure your motherboard is designed for the system and go for the full install and not the upgrade. If not be prepared to trouble shoot to get the performance optimized.
Do not expect Lightroom to sort out you OS problems.

Lots of good replies here; this is typically an OS issue, not an architecture issue. As long as the motherboard and CPU combo supports the (typically -- few of us run the Intel 64-bit server architecture) "amd64" architecture the 64-bit versions of the OS should work fine to see a "flat" (well, flat enough for Windows, which is rather lumpy in its approach to memory) 64-bit memory space.
    With two caveats:
    1. The OS still determines how much memory you see, and Microsoft has tweaked different versions and releases to see varying amounts of physical memory. Some see this as a defect.  See here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(VS.85).aspx
    2. Not all 64-bit operating systems are "64-bit clean." As far as I know, Windows 7 is the only 64-bit clean OS Microsoft has released. That is, the various pieces that make up an OS (kernel, services, driver, &etc.) are all 64-bit, with some of those pieces designed to handle 32-bit addressing if they have to.
    (1) may affect user applications like Lr. (2) will almost certainly not, but it will affect overall system performance.
Lr does not require 64-bit to work (I assume it will in a future release -- the writing is on the wall) but the right architecture will allow you to run applications with larger address spaces, which means more resources and more efficient use of those resources.
Ironically, some folks will note that 64-bit has meant some things have gotten much larger. The process stack, threads and other internals have grown much larger with 64-bit platforms. This can sometimes be seen as a larger application footprint and even, in some cases, slower access to some system resources for 64-bit applications. These are extreme cases, however, and the best thing to do is run modest hardware that puts the emphasis on generally efficient processor and memory architecture and an OS that can take advantage of the physical memory you provide.
The point of the OP is well taken, however. Your "64-bit" OS as installed on your hardware may not, in fact, be able to see anything more than 2-4Gb of your physical memory. Older releases and OEM installs are infamous for setting things up so that all you end up with is a moderately more expensive and slow 32-bit platform.
Buy a real copy of the OS and install it yourself with none of the taskbar garbage OEMs love to give you.  Make sure you can disable real-time anti-virus protection, or remove it altogether (practice safe computing and you won't need it.) If you purchased from an OEM like Dell, demand your OS media (the are supposed to sell you installation media with pre-installed systems) and install it yourself (or get your local Windows enthusiast to do it for you.) Take regular backups -- actually, take two regular backups; hard drive "bathtub curves" are getting shorter by the year, while the cost per Gb shrink monthly.
Lr is a demanding app, but nowhere as demanding as many. It will use as much of the physical memory the OS can offer under the right circumstances, but the OS can only ration so much to various processes until something gives. Just because Lr is lagging on your system does not make it the problem! An OS is an ecosystem, and the kernel does its best to ration out resources to running processes.  Hungry foreground processes will just suffer more obviously from strained resources.

  • Upgraded to Win 8.1, now Move tool in CS6 has stopped working

Specifically, the spacebar shortcut. The move tool works, however, when I press the spacebar the cursor changes to the hand symbol yet when I click and drag, it does not work.
This applies to all programs in the CS6 master collection.

We can't know. You have not provided any proper system information. Such issues are usualyl simply driver issues with your input device and graphics hardware. That aside, CS6 was never tested or designed for Win 8.1, so these problems may be unresolvable untill Adobe fix them with specific updates to their products.

  • CS4 from win to mac?

I have CS4 Design Standard win version and now I have a new Macbook. What I must do next to change my win version to mac version?
    Thank´s, Petri Nurminen

There is nothing you can do to exchange your Windows version for a Mac version.  Platform swaps are only supported for the most current release version, which is CS6.  Here is a link to a page that explains the policy.

  • Satellite Pro A120: Need all drivers and easyguard for Win 7

    Hi!
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, which I purchased back in 2007 and I am very satisfied with it.
It had Windows Vista Business, but recently I installed Windows 7 and this is where my dilemmas began.
My touch pad doesn't work correctly, its scroll feature doesn't work anymore, to be precised. I installed the latest ALPS touch pad driver, but the problem remains.
Then, when I checked the system, I noticed two devices that are listed and it said that there are no drivers installed for them. I cannot find out which devices are those and where to find the drivers.
    Here are they:
    1st: ACPI\TOS6208\2&DABA3FF&1 Driver not installed!
    2nd: ACPI\TOS620A\2&DABA3FF&1 Driver not installed!
And my third problem is regarding Toshiba's sets of programs and utilities.
My laptop came with Toshiba Easyguard, with theft protection and other Toshiba programs, and now I lost them all. Is there any way I can get them?
I have to say that I have no intention of going back to Windows Vista, so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you all for your answers and help!

    Hi
In my in my humble opinion the additional touchpad features and other devices dont work correctly because the installed drivers are not designed for Win 7 and possibly are not fully compatible with Win 7.
Who knows if the Win 7 drivers would be released for Sat A120 series we will see
At this time I didnt find special Win 7 drivers for A120.
But if found some Win 7 beta drivers on US page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
Maybe you are lucky man and some drivers would run on your A120.
