In Dreamweaver CS5 How do I insert a PDF?

I am designing a site using Dreamweaver CS5 & trying to insert a PDF.  I use a MacIntosh computer, OS 10.6.8, my boss uses a PC.  We thought turning some of his files into PDF's would help since I can't find converters to convert his files into compatible files for the software I have.  I can view the PDF's easily on my computer, so this should be able to be done easily, right?
I was trying to just create a new page with html.  I thought perhaps I could just insert the PDF as an image, but no, that does not work.  This is probably simple, I just don't know how to do it.  If you know, I would so appreciate your help.

PDF is media.  It needs browser plug-ins and helper apps (Acrobat) to open & view it.
If all you need are images, you should do some screengrabs of the PDF while it's open in Acrobat. And then edit the screengrabs in your favorite image editor (Photoshop). Save for web as jpg.
The simplest way to add PDFs to web pages is to provide a direct link to the PDF file so it can be downloaded and launched in whatever manner the end user's computer settings provide for.  This varies quite a bit from user-to-user.

    You will need to find a forum for MS Word since that is the software that you are trying to manipulate in this.  If you think the processing/creation of the PDF plays a role then you should ask in the forum for the software that you are using to create the PDF.
    This forum is for issue regarding downloading and installing Adobe trial products, so in any circumstance, your issue does not fit in this forum.

  • How do I insert a pdf file (image) into a project as a picture-in-picture clip that will run for a specified amount of time?

    I want to insert a pdf created from a ppt slide into a FCP X project that will run as a PIP for a specified amount of time. I was successful in bringing the image into the project as a clip but the default for the image is one second. When I try to change duration of the clip, I am able to enter a new time length but the actual clip doesn't change.

    You select the PDF image in the timeline. You use Control-D and enter the new duration. What happens?

  • How do you insert another PDF document into an existing PDF page

    Here's some background.  I used to use Acrobat 5 (I know it's really old but it worked great for my needs, but it's time to upgrade).  Say I have an existing 1 page PDF document (an Invoice for example).  Sometimes in Excel I create additional supporting details/calculations/etc that I must place onto the Invoice.  In the past I would print my Excel document to PDF using PDF Broadgun (great tool!) - and I'd like to keep doing this.  Then I would go into Acrobat 5, open up my 1 page Invoice PDF document, then I'd use the Form tool, insert Icon, and select my "supporting" PDF document right onto the 1st page.  Then, as needed, I could resize it and place it anywhere on the existing Invoice/PDF 1 page document that I started with, and the resolution was great (i.e. no "grainy" appearances, etc).
    I've now upgraded to Acrobat XI Pro (well, technically I'm trialing to make sure it'll will meet my needs - so far so good, until I ran into this).  I have tried copying the Excel data directly into my PDF Invoice document, but it often times makes the object super large (way off the page left to right) and then I have to resize it (substantially reducing the size) in order to make it fit the page.  This resizing the causes the text to appear "grainy".
    So pretend that my original Invoice/PDF 1 page document took up the top 1/2 of the page.  Then in Excel I create some backup which is say 5-10 lines of calculations.  How can I get the Excel backup as an Image into my original 1 page document (and on 1 page)?  The only work around that I've found so far is to insert it as the last past, then highlight the new stuff from Excel, cut and copy it onto page 1 (these seems like several extra steps in my eyes, but it does work).
    I also want to avoid using screen snip-it, snagit, and various other tools for the following reasons:
    1.  I don't want to remove the grid lines within Excel (i.e. when you print from Excel the grid lines do not print by default)
    2.  I use PDF Broadgun to generate a PDF (i.e. electronic print) and then the data/document looks just like I'd want it to look if I had physically printed it
    Any thoughts?  Many thanks in advance for the help too.
    Other Details:  Windows 7 Pro, company/business use

    I don't see what the problem is with printing to PDF using the Adobe PDF printer as you did with the other tool. Then open your new Excel PDF and do the same process as before (assuming it worked for you). Just go to the Tools>Interactive and add a button field (I assume this is what you did before) and put the file there. At least give it a try as I think that is what you said you used to do.

  • How do i insert my pdf (with clickable links) into the body of an email?

    I do not want to use mail chimp, copy & paste, or take a screenshot.  Since I have updated my programs I am no longer able to do this and that seems pretty backwards to me.

    What happens if your recipients' email clients do not display images by default? Will your message still get across?

    Hopefully, you have no more than 100 recipients to your email marketing as AOL imposes a limit.
    The comparison between messages you send and those you have received should be clearly made. Were those messages that you received sent from AOL? Were they sent with the same AOL mail client? Do they use images attached to the message or called from a web server?

  • Dreamweaver CS5 inserts unexpected Diamond character

    When I Alt-tab from a Dreamweaver CS5 webpage to switch to another application (in Windows 7), occasionally an unexpected character is inserted in the HTML page.  It has source code &diams; and appears as the diamond character.  I can't understand why this happens, and only intermittently.  My pages have the meta directive <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    E Gibbon

    You can get away with using
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    as the charset encoding.
    This will not affect how your code functions in non-unicode aware software. This is a directive for browsers to render your page using UTF-8.
    If you're still skeptical to do this, open your webpage in any browser the way it is (with ISO-8859-1) and go to View > Character Encoding > Set UTF-8 to see how the browser loads the page then. If all looks well, you can safely change the encoding type in your meta directive to UTF-8 charset.

  • How to add layers in Dreamweaver CS5

    I am using Dreamweaver CS5 for the first time and cannot find a way to insert layers. One comment I ran across on the internet suggested that layers are a thing of the past. If this is so, can someone please suggest another way to achieve the same result? I need to add resizable, movable text boxes on top of a full-page background image. How do I do this without layers? Thanks!

    Layers produced such horrible code, Adobe saw fit to remove them from CS3.  Good riddance to layers!
    For best results, find a pre-built CSS layout that has been tested to perform well in all browsers.  Depending on your needs, you could begin with a basic 1, 2 or 3-column layout.   Then it's a fairly simple matter of inserting elements where needed.

  • How do I change an image border color to another color - Dreamweaver CS5?

    Good day,
    I have just learned how to add a border to an image with Dreamweaver CS5 within the Properties Inspector.
    After typing the width in pixels in the Border Text Field and pressing the Enter key, Dreamweaver created a black border.
    How do I change the image border color to another color?

    I added your suggested rule to the Style Sheet "in any order" as you explained. See the image below.
    However this did not change the image border from black to light blue. In fact, nothing changed.
    Nothing changed because the CSS that has been written into DW is incorrectly written.
    You want the following (exactly as written below)
    img {border: 4px solid #0062C8;}
    You've inadvertently wrapped the rule inside a #main_image container rendering it meaningless.
    It's easiest to go into Code View and change
    #main_image {
         img {border: 4px solid #0062C8;
    to
    img { border: 4px solid #0062C8; }
    The Property Inspector added a border exactly as I wanted it, other than the color I wanted the border to be. What is the use of this function in Property Inspector if it can add a border within Property Inspector but not let me change the COLOR of the black border that Property Inspector added, to another color?
    That's a deceptively simple, yet valid, question with a long answer.
    Back in the dark old days of web design web designers were restricted to inline HTML formatting which offered  border properties but no colors.
    CSS styling offers colors and more but has to be written differently.
    These days. it's best to avoid HTML formatting. Unfortunately border="4px" in the PI still allows it. But does not permit color.
    Does anyone else out there ever add color borders to their IMAGES (not the containing box for the image) ?
    Yes, using CSS.
