In-Ear Headphones distorted sound

Hi,
Yesterday, 21 days past my one-year warranty, the right in-ear phone now produces distorted sound when the volume is raised.
I have replaced the mesh cap as recommended, but to no avail.
It only the right speaker and is directly related to higher volume.
Has anyone experienced this?
If so, what was your solution?
tia,
Bob

hi,
if you own an iPhone 3GS and is covered by Apple Care or limited warranty your in-ear headphones get warranty too
you can even apply for DIY.

Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Answer found. Please find below an amazon review explicitly mentioning adding third party foam tips. Sounds like they fit and work like a dream:
"As a audio engineer, I own about a dozen different sets of earphones and in-ear 'phones. My favorite, by far, are my sure SE530s. I have some Sennheiser cx400s which are good workhorses, but lack the finesse, clarity and stunning accuracy of the Shures. For convenience, I bought the Apple's, as I wanted something I could use with the phone for calls.
I found the sound to be quite clear and beautifully clean, but like many, no matter how I tried, the stock Apple tips never made a good seal. The seal is absolutely essential to getting bass out of a balanced armature design. For you non-engineers, just trust me that if you don't have a proper seal, you will have no bass.
In my case, I think the trouble had to do with the largest size being a tiny bit too small, and the silicon being too rigid, yet slick, so they left small airgaps and were easy to remove. I tried using some foam tips from a third party, but their large was more of a medium, and never came close to a snug fit.
As an experiment, I dug around in my ear-tips from my Shure's and tried their rubber tips which are about the same size as Apple's large tips, but made of a more pliant and slightly sticky rubber.
OMG, what a transformation. Suddenly the sound blossomed, the bass became rich and well balanced, and the "top-heavy" sound was totally mellowed into a rich, well balanced and incredibly detailed presentation.
Make no mistake, these are the best 'phones under $200 I have ever heard. The bass is deep and warm, very detailed, and totally lacking fuzz or buzz that I can hear in the Sennheiser set. Look at getting tips from a better headphone. The trick is it has to have a soft rubber base that can expand over Apple's slightly larger stub. Some tips, like the Shure foam tips, have a rigid plastic sleave in the tip to keep it's position correct, and these won't expand over the larger Apple posts."

  • There is a very loud, distorted sound coming from my Ipod Nano 7th generation no matter what headphones i use. Any fixes?

I bought an Ipod Nano 7th generation and out of the box, there was a really loud distorted sound as soon as i pressed play. When i press pause, it stops. If i use a different pair of headphones is does it. So, i exchanged it, and all was good for about three weeks, now even the new one is doing it. The sound is so loud and fuzzy that i cant even hear what the song is supposed to be.

First, ipod nano 7th gen does not have a built-in speaker. Second, a brand new nano jack is sometimes ifficult to insert, make sure it is fully inserted or flushed to the ipod body. Cheers!

  • Beats Solo HD On-Ear Headphone red has a 5 stars review compared to others, are they the same products ,same quality of sound?

Beats Solo HD On-Ear Headphone red has a 5 stars review compared to others, are they the same products ,same quality of sound?

First, there are plenty "Fake" Beats headphones and earphones, they are almost looked the same with the original, but the sound qualities are basically poor.
Beats is good for people who likes strong bass.
Recently, I am in love with the new Apple earpods, they perform good, and particular with an app. called "Dirac" lite.
This is a great review for most of the top quality headphones and earphones

  • Inspire P7800 Headphone mic is getting speaker feedback which distorts sound

My P7800 works fine my problem is in a game I get distorted sound from speaker feedback to the mic. Any solution?

    Heh,
Well one of the reasons I bought the speakers was because my friend gave me a copy of FarCry he got bundled with something he bought. But now FarCry wont install heh, so I can't test it on that. I am trying to think of other games I have that use surround..hmm maybe HL2 does. I will do some more testing and wait a couple days to see what you guys think. If worst comes to it I will just buy a soundcard aimed at 7.1 .
    Thanks for responding jimby

  • Distorted sound? No vocals heard, only some ba

Hi! I've been having problems on my Zen Micro Photo I got 2 years ago.
For the past few weeks, the sound coming from it has been weird. The vocals are gone, and only some parts of bass and other background are heard.
I thought this was temporary first, since at first, moving the headphones would fix it, but now it isn't. It's not the headphones, since I've tried it with 3 different types...
I've tried the steps to fix "Distorted Sound on Audio Books" at the knowledge base, but there hasn't been any changes.
I've looked at the threads for problems with the headphone jacks, but I can hear the bass and background in both ears...
Thanks for reading, and I hope someone can help my problem!

You could always delete the com.apple.finder.plist file and then restart. Your finder preference file might be hosed.
Another suggestion would be to try it under a different user. Could be a corrupt user preference.
Another idea....if you have a back up drive with OS X you could start up using that system and see if the problem persists.

  • I lost one of the earbuds for my Apple In-ear Headphones with Mic. Now what do It do?

I lost one of the earbuds for my Apple In-ear Headphones with Mic.
In case you don't see why this could be a big deal, let me remind you that these little earphones will run you $79 new. Naturally, I'm sure there's got to be a reasonable solution that another owner of these headphones may know of or can share with me.
Should I bring it to the Apple store or will they just laugh at me?
Basically, all I'm missing is the jelly-like in-ear bud on one side (which is easily replaceable; I just need to know where I can order GENUINE extras from).
Click here to see the Apple In-ear Headphones I'm referring to.

I've tried several and the best by far is the Sennheiser MM50 iP ($99 at the apple store). The sound is incredible, particularly the low frequecy response (bass). These are even better than the Bose Triports I used for my iPod, plus they have the mic and button for recieving calls and ipod playback. I also have the airdrives, which don't even compare for sound quality and range because they aren't in-ear (they sit directly in front of the ear canal). I still use the airdrives in situations where I want music distraction but still want to hear what's happening around me, but for in-ear sound quality and iPhone functionality I don't think you're going to find better for the Sennheisers for under $100. In fact I don't think their is anything under $250 right now that would match it for performance, comfort and functionality.
Note: these are asymmetrical which means the cord for the right earbud goes behind your neck to the right ear. I found this strange at first but now I actually like it because it allows you to pull the earlplugs out and just let them rest over your neck/shoulders.

  • Did you know about iphone in ear headphone Two drivers in each earpiece ?

i just wanna prepare to buy a new iphone in ear headphone
Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
      £65.00
is so expensive but some youtube user said it is prefect for sound quality so what is your opinion ?

No I have my own iPhone iPad and MacBook  so everything is set up on devices that are mine and as far as I know I never connected to anyone else's device and logged with my apple ID.  But are you saying it is possible for someone to have obtained my apple ID and send an iMessage from their device with my contact information so it looks like it came directly from me?  It's crazy I looked down at my iPhone and saw this message had just been sent that I did not type or send

  • What is the safe music listening level for regular and in-ear headphones?

I am wondering what the safe music listening level for regular and in-ear headphones is. I heard it was 50% volume for regular headphones but what about the new 60$ in-ear ones? I am going to get them soon.

Just turn it up enough for you to enjoy the music. Even prolonged low volume sound can have long term negative effects on your hearing. It also depends on your listening environment. In a dead silent room you won't need very much volume. I have my cranked pretty high on when riding my motorcycle to work.  Just don't take your hearing for granted. Constant ringing in your ears will suck.

  • In-ear headphones buzzing

I got some new in-ear headphones a little bit ago. The right ear has this buzzing/crackling sound. Is there any way to fix it or get a replacement pair?

If you're within the return policy, you can take them back for an exchange. Otherwise, they are covered by a 1-year warranty in which you can get them replaced at a Genius Bar or your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • Reak or fake Apple in ear headphone

HELP, i have found an Apple in ear headphone on yahoo auctions. it says 100% real from Apple, but i've been searching from the apple on line store and i was not able to locate such ear phone. i would like to know if this is been made by Apple or they are fake.

i would like to know if this is been made by Apple or they are fake.
Nobody here can say - fakes can be very convincing. If you are worried about that then don't buy from an auction. Buy from an authorised re-seller or from Apple themselves.
Remember, if the price makes the offer sound too good to be true, then it probably is.

  • In-Ear Headphones Replacement?

Ok, I received a pair of Apple's iPod In-Ear Headphones for Christmas last year and now the sound in the right earbud has decided to essentially quit. I've wiggled the cord and squeezed the earbud and checked the balance in all of the relevant preference panes, but I've gotten to the point where I've given up on these headphones every working correctly again.
I'm wondering how I can get them replaced / fixed online. I bought my iPod in 2001 so it's way out of warranty, but the headphone are not. I've been to that iPod Service page (http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod), but I can't find a serial number on my headphones or in any of its documentation (and I can't use my iPod's serial number).
    Can anyone help me out?

I finally got my headphones replaced by Apple. I was on the phone with them for 3 days getting bounced between departments over and over again. The wait times made the process horrible.
The reason I had so much trouble, or so I was told, was that because the headphones don't have a serial number on them it's hard for them to just enter the stuff into their computers and automate the process. I was also told that no one had ever tried to get theirs replaced. Some of the people I talked to had no idea that Apple sold headphones independent from the iPod (and they kept asking me for my iPod serial number - which they don't need). Then I was told that my product didn't come with a warranty.
I eventually talked to a lady in the Disbursments office (I think), explaind my problem and what a horrible time I had had with the customer support process. She finally helped me. She asked me to fax her the front page of the warranty booklet and then she sent me a new pair of headphones (but not a brand new box, just the headphones inside the plastic container with the additional earbuds - you should make clear that these are the In-Ear headphones with addition earbuds.) Because of the terrible time I'd had she didn't require me to send back the defective headphones.
When they ask for an iPod serial number you should be extremely clear that you ARE in the right department (do not let them transfer you) and that they know exactly which product you are talking about. When they tell you they can't help you in that department, and that another department can help you, they're wrong. Sales and all those other departments can not help you.
I guess the easiest thing to do when they try to transfer you is to demad a supervisor. I'm glad I got my replacement headphones, but it was hard to do.
    I hope this helps.

  • Don't enjoy the included earbuds? Try the Apple in-ear headphones...

    Hi everyone!
I thought I'd provide some feedback after enjoying the new shuffle for the past couple of days.
I've cast aside the included earbuds in favor of Apple's in-ear headphones. For those that may not yet know, these have the same controls as the included set and are absolutely 100% compatible with the new shuffle. The only difference is that there's also a microphone embedded in the remote but this is simply redundant as far as the shuffle goes (it comes into play with the iPhone, iPod touch and the 4th gen Nano).
The benefit that I've discovered to using the in-ear phones with the shuffle are:
    1) You still retain full control over all the functions. At the time of this writing, this is the only alternative set of phones that can do this!
    2) They do not fall out while jogging, working out, etc. if this is a problem for you with the existing set.
    3) The sound is incredibly detailed and thus you can take complete advantage of one of the main features of the new shuffle - the ability to use lossless tracks. These phones can easily deliver all the extra detail that's available by opting to use lossless tracks. While I admire the ability to re-encode your music to 128k/AAC on the fly for use with the shuffle plus the fact that compression technology is very good for what it is, to my ears lossless is enormously superior to 128k, and I prefer to have 10 albums at amazing quality than 50 albums at so-so quality.
    4) Sound isolation is superior, so outdoor listening isn't a problem. I've also tested these on a recent flight, and I found that they hold up extremely well - so much so that I no longer use my active noise cancelling headphones.
So basically, I've discovered that the new shuffle paired with the in-ear phones make a formidable combination. If you are not satisfied with the included phones but still want full control over your shuffle...consider them recommended.
I don't work for Apple - just an enthusiastic customer wishing to share his experiences and help others who may be looking for a solution.

Although the price of the in-ears is as much as the shuffle itself, the advantage of purchasing them is that you can also use them with an iPhone, iPod Nano, Touch, etc as well which makes them a much better value.
I think that it's good to have more just the shuffle as sometimes it's good to watch video or have more precise control over your track selection.

  • Right ear in Aurvana in ear headphones quieter than the left

Ok so I've bought my creative Aurvana in ear headphones about three months ago from amazon after much research. The left ear has always been a fair bit louder but I couldn't notice it too much with both plugs in my ears. I know it's not my ears, I tried them in both and it sounds the same. I've tried a set of soundsquared earphones that I also bought at amazon and they are equally loud in both ears so I know it's my MP3 players either(cowon d2 and Zune). The left ear sounds ok but the right earbud violins and singing sounds kind of bright in the high range but it's not as loud either. I know I should of asked earlier but I was thinking it was just the way they were. So my question is, are they defective? I've always kept them clean and dug out microscopic wax with the cleaning tool and have even been trying to dig for stuff that aint there in frustration. Is this loud in left ear and quieter in right normal? Is this just how the headphones are built and it has some purprose to it or did I get a bad one? I wouldn't think that 80 dollar earbuds would be defective.

I have exactly the same problem with these headphones. Exactly the same earphone, and those frequencies. Yes it is absolutely not normal, the headphones are not cheap. Wrote in support, waiting for an answer ...
