In Europe guarantee by law is 2 years why do I only get 1 for an Imac

My Imac just broke, it is less than two years old but more than one. Yes I did not sign for Apple care but I thought that by law in Europe consumers are entitled to 2 years guarantee.

This is true for the first two years. After this, it depends on the economic value of the product, and for this period, the European directive has to be implemented by local law.
So it still depends on your country. Here in The Netherlands, the local Consumer Federation published several articles on Apple resellers essentially breaking the law.
They did not react to that. In practice, in the Netherlands, if you want guarantee for more than 1 year, you will have to let a lawyer write a letter :-/
