In FCP, let us have QuickTime MPEG-2 Player themselves included inside ?

I) -
I started with Final Cut Pro 3, then 4 and currently Final Cut Studio 5.
It seems me to have known that the installation of these integrated softwares the alternative of the version QuickTime MPEG-2 player which is sold with share on the APPLE site.
However, it seems to to me that when I open some QuickTime videos, it that I am announced to me misses the module making it possible to read it and I note that it probably acts of reader MPEG-2.
Can you so really say to me to the installation of Final Cut Pro or Studio, I acquire the QuickTime
Components which enables me to read format MPEG-2 ?
I tried to make a search using "spotlight", nothing does not indicate to me that it is there well, nor that it is found in my system.
Can you say to me, in the discs of installations of CPF or Studio, where can I find the reader QuickTime MPEG-2 ?
Or if there does not exist and that I must buy it on the site QuickTime Components - Reader MPEG-2 Player?
Thank you for your information.
II ) -Indeed there are not enought precision in my first question.
To answer holds;
I thus have the version of FCP 5 installed on my PowerBook G4 last series and also QuickTime Pro.
All goes very well except that I thought that QuickTime Components MEPG-2 Player was installed obligatorily when we charge FCP.
I note the following phenomenon;
I except have in my opinion all the components of QuickTime that of QT MPEG-2 since I never bought it owing to the fact that I think of having it with FCP.
When I want to read a video QuickTime MPEG or avi or other QT all this master key very well, except that some times it appear the message following to the opening of film: :
"an additional software is necessary so that QuickTime can read these media. It is perhaps available starting from the page of the QuickTime components".
If I read this video, I see the pictures but I do not have any audio.
This same video if I play it by opening it in "MPlayer OS X 2",
in this case I also find the Audio sound, but never audio starting from QT Player for this video.
This phenomenon is not on all videos, but only that on someone.
So unless I make an error of reasoning, it seems to to me that that must come that I do not have QT components MPEG-2 Player.
What do you think about it?
And : In FCP, let us have QuickTime MPEG-2 Player themselves included inside ?
If "yes" : Where ?
Can you say to me in which files I find QT MPEG-2 in FCP ?
Thank.

QuickTime MPEG-2 component is installed with FCP
Not all audio formsts embedded in MPEG-2 files can be natively decoded by Quicktime and so will not play the audio in Quicktime Player. However, those same files may play in other apps which do not use Quicktime for decoding.
You can enable more file type compatibility if you download and install the Perian quicktime component ... it should allow you to play back most of these files in Quicktime Player
FCP does not support audio playback of "muxed" formats such as some MPEG2 files. You must "demux" these files first ... you can do this with MPEG Streamclip

  • Cannot Find Compatible Quicktime MPEG-2 Player

Is there a compatible MPEG-2 player for Quicktime 7.1.6 running under Windows 2000 Pro? All support for this O/S seems to be non-existent.

Your QuickTime version is correct for your OS and you should not try to update that version.
The Apple Store sells the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20) but it could be it is not compatible with that older QuickTime version. It was recently updated and maybe the older versions were removed.

Use the free player found at the link above to view your MPEG-2 files.

  • Can anyone help? I have downloaded and installed the QuickTime MPEG-2 Component but it doesn't work.

I purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 component for Quicktime as I am using Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and I want to be able to via MPEG-2 transport streams.
I paid £14.00 - everything downloaded and installed fine but it doesn't work and I am still unable to view the transport streams in Quicktime even though according to the website this is want the component will let me do.
I have rebooted several times, reinstalled both Quicktime and the MPEG-2 component and still nothing.  I have then spent ages going around and around in circles on the website trying to find a way of emailing customer services or technical support to get some assistance but I just always end back in the same place no further forward.
Please can anyone else offer any suggestions - either how I can get it working or how I can get my £14 back from Apple!!

    1) Suggest you reread the "Feature" details for the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component paying particular attention to the paragraph titled "Can transport streams be played?" which clearly states that this codec does NOT support the playback of transport stream (TS) files.
    2) This codec can only be used with "classic" QT apps such as the QT 7 player, GarageBand, or third-party apps like the free MPEG Streamclip app.
    3) The VLC player intrinsically supports TS files. MPEG Streamclip with the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installed supports TS file playback.
    4) MPEG Streamclip with the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installed can also resave muxed TS file content as muxed program stream (PS) content which is then "playback" compatible with both QT 7 and QT X players (assuming you select an audio compression format compatible with both) or convert the muxed TS content to QT "edit" compatible compression formats if desired.

Apple seldom makes refunds to people who successfully purchase software which they do not really understand how to use—cavaet emptor. It is difficult to make suggestions here without knowing more about your personal preferences and/or work flow requirements. I personally would keep the codec to enhance various playback, conversion, and editing options on my Mac.

  • I have Windows 8.1 and just bought the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for windows and it won't install. I currently have Quicktime Pro.

I need to run Quicktime Pro and playback DVD with mpeg-2 content for school. I just downloaded Quicktime Pro, and purchased the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for Windows, but I can't download it at all. Is this because my PC is running Windows 8.1?
If so, is there anything I can do?

    What do I do?
You actually have several options. However, since you specifically want to use it it with MPEG Streamclip, the easiest approach would be to download the MPEG Streamclip "Beta" package for the Mac which includes a utility app that will help install the QT MPEG-2 Playback component on Lion and later operating systems. Instructions and background info can be found HERE under the "Lion/Mountain Lion and MPEG-2 Playback Component" tab.

  • Quicktime MPEG 2 Component

    Hello all,
I had to reinstall Tiger recently. I did an archive and install, so that all my prefs would carry across, and anything that didn't would still be in the previous system library. I noticed that a lot of Quicktime plugins fell into this latter category, and I had to copy them across into the new system folder. No problem so far.
But yesterday, when I tried to open a DVD .vob in MPEG Streamclip, which I had always been able to do previously, MPEG Streamclip told me it could open the .vob because the Quicktime MPEG 2 Component was missing. I went to the previous system folder, system/library/quicktime, and sure enough there was the aforementioned component. When i tried to copy it over, though, a dialogue came up with a choice to "authenticate" - but selecting that option did nothing.
I take it now (but correct me if I'm wrong) that this component is installed as part of Quicktime Pro when you have Final Cut Pro intalled on your machine. I do have FCP installed, and retained it of course when I did the archive and install. I've fired up FCP to see if it installs the MPEG 2 component in the current library, but no joy.
I know it's only 20 bucks to buy the QT MPEG 2 component from the Apple store, but I feel like that's a bit of a ripoff seeing as I paid a grand or so for FCS and the component should already be there.
Any tips for how to move QT MPEG 2 Component from my previous system library into the current one, or reinstall it given I have FCS/QT Pro?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Rob

Archive and Install is not an advisable way to reinstall your operating system. It's fine for things like iTunes but it could make more complicated apps like Final Cut Pro unstable.
It might be worth reinstalling Final Cut Studio:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm
When i tried to copy it over, though, a dialogue came up with a choice to "authenticate" - but selecting that option did nothing.
Did it not ask you for an admin password?

  • Cant run itunes, have QuickTime 7.5 but says I need 7.5.5 and can't find it anywhere

I have been having problems with my computer. reinstalled MAC OS X as directed and now have my internet back but can't get into my itunes. It indicates that I need to have Quicktime 7.5.5 and I have Quicktime 7.5.
I just keep going in circles and have no idea how to fix.

Let's try installing a QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Will  FCP 6.0.4, Quicktime 7.5.5 and Mac OS 10.4.11 work together properly

I have not updated Quicktime on my system for some time now, because I know that FCP & Quicktime work hand in hand. I don't want to cause a problem with any of my FCP editing, by having non-compatible updates trying to work together.
I bought an I-pod touch and when I connected it to I-tunes,
I was told that I had to upgrade I-tune to allow it to work properly.
So I updated my I-tunes Application to ver 9.0.2 on my power PC G5 Mac tower, and now I'm told that in order for the newest version of I-tunes to work that I must update my Quicktime player application to ver 7.5.5.
Could someone please tell me if updating my Quicktime player may cause a problem with my FCP Application?
Also... what is the best way to handle updates when they arise?
I presently have Quicktime Pro ver 7.5 and Final Cut Pro 6.04 on a Power PC G5 Mac tower running Mac OS 10.4.11
    Thanks for the advise,
    Todd

The current version of Quicktime is 7.6.4, which will be the only one available from Apple Software Update.
FCP 6.0.6 will work with it and the spec on the QuickTime page says you need at least Mac OS X 10.4.11 to run it. The last few QT updates have all been stable for me.
So at least in theory, you should be good.
If you are in the middle of a project, don't upgrade until you finish it. Otherwise, make sure that you have a current backup before you do.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Try, in preferences, resetting 64 bit to 32 bits.  Should work fine.  the older vidoes, etc will not work with 64 bit.  Had the same problem/scare.  Let us know if this helps and works!

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Component cant playback High Profile High Level content

Is the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component really unable to playback HP HL content?
Im encoding high bitrate media content to mediaservers with my Mac Pro and have used VLC so far to playback the encoded files.
VLC however doesent loop flawlessly so i decided to try QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component.
To my disappoinment it did not play back the High Profile High Level Mpeg-2 content at all.
It tried, but no image was visible and only a few digital bleeps could be heard from soundtrack.
Why call it a playback component if it cant do the job?

  • Quicktime Mpeg Component?

    Hello all,
nowthen, I am producing music videos for terrestial broadcast using Final Cut Studio that have to follow these requirements:
    extension: .m2p
    audio: mpeg2
    video: mpeg1
    video bit rate 8359kbs
    audio bitrate 384kbs
    lower field first
    constant bitrate
    closed GOP
I have tried exporting using Quicktime compression but the end user can't read the files and suggested I used Squared5 which when I use that I can't get to the export to Mpeg with MP2 audio, the option is is always subdued in colour.
I've tried downloading the update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update/
but the server cannot be found.
When I used Compressor the end user cannot read the files.
Can anyone (pleeeease) suggest what to do?
What should be the right format of export from Final Cut for Squared5 Mpeg Streamclip?
What plugin should or could I be using with quicktime instead?

Yes, it was late, and at the end of very long day, so I evidently needed to check the client's email. However, I am still at the same point, that being unable to properly convert music videos cut with graphics in Final Cut and exported as Mpeg2 .m2p files. On the Squared5 website under requirements it says:
"For MPEG-2 playback and conversion, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. You can buy it from Apple (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2). If you have either Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro, then the component is already installed and you don't have to buy it; but you may need to download the latest version from Apple. If you bought an older version of the component, you can update it to the latest version (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update). Note that the MPEG-2 component is neither required nor useful for MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 files. But it is required for VOB files and transport streams, because they are MPEG-2 files."
when clicking on the second link there is this at the bottom of the screen:
"Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro and Final Cut Studio Users:
If you received your MPEG-2 Playback Component as part of Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio, you can download the update with your Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio serial number. Download Update."
However clicking on the 'Download Update' we're told the page no longer exists. Does the offer on the component for free no longer exist?
Is there a way of exporting from Final Cut Pro/Studio to the above format and specs with the setup and software that I already have, and if not what upgrade do I need?

  • I can't install Quicktime MPEG-2 Component in OS X Lion

    Hi friends,
Today, I tryed install Quicktime MPEG-2 Component for use with software 'MPEG Streamclip'. I have a Macbook reformated and with OS X Lion.
But the system alert me: This component can't install in this system, it's for older operative system.
    What's I can do?
I have a iMac, with OS X Lion too, but it's not fomated. Before it was installed MPEG-2 Component, and I can use software perfectly.
For example, Can I transfer codec MPEG-2 from iMac to Macbook? Where's installed codec in my iMac?
Thanks very much... and I'm sorry for my english...

You can do in the System Preferences pane, but there is another way: position the mouse pointer on the dividing line between files and applications and drag up or down.

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component

I am new to Mac so please forgive my ignorance. I have a Sony video camera which has .mpg files. I wanted to use these files in imovie so I googled how to convert them and came up with MPEG Streamclip. It wiped my MPEG-2 Playback Component. I downloaded it again from the Apple store but when I went to install it told me it was too old for my system. What can I do now?
(P.S. hating that I converting anything to mac is so bloody complicated)

This particular aspect is a bit complicated!
As you can read on this page:  http://store.apple.com/uk/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed.
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Reading FCP captured video on Quicktime Player with time code displayed?

I have someone who has to view my FCP captured video. He has an Apple but no FCP. Far as I can make it out he can see the material by using Quicktime. Problem is he needs to see timecode to reference his comments. Is it possible to make Quicktime display time code?
    John
p.s. could find no Quicktime forum in this Apple site

If they happen to have Quicktime 7.3 or higher, they can click onto the TIME window on the lower left and see a drop down menu. In this menu you will see TIMECODE listed. That will display the clips timecode.
