In Finder I have many images

I have 10,000 images & documents(if you click on the finder icon & go to images or documents) on my computer - my question is:  can I delete these? Some I do not know how they got there.
Or do I just leave them alone.  Some of the documents are gobeldy goop!
thanks
Dawne

Unless you have a space problem, leave them. Only delete stuff when you know what it is, and are sure you don't need it.

Using Lightroom publish service for either Flickr or SmugMug. I have many images with a keyword Maddy. This frequently doesn't show up in SmugMug or Flickr. All my other keywords seem to work fine. Anybody experience anything like this?

You only get one opportunity to set up the hard drive under publish and the folder cannot be changed unless you get a plug-in to provide a work around.
However you could just create a generic publish folder - something like Photo Lab, or Print Job.
But you could then right click on your publish folder and select “make target collection” - you will see the plus sign added.
Simply highlight the photos you want to print and press B (the same as adding to a quick collection) and your Publish Services folder on your hard drive will be populated with the exports.
The real problem is that you would need to edit the publish settings every time you required different dimensions etc (not sure possible). I use a similar system, which works well and I like how I can see what has already been published and what is still to be published but my prints are always the same size and resolution.

  • Can I have many image backups on windows 8.1?

I am using the image backup feature in windows 8.1 to create a
backup of my system. However. If I try to create a new one, the first
one is overwritten. So i create a new one, rename it and create a second
one. However, when I want to restore an image, I have only one image
avaiable, the image that is not renamed.
So my doubt is, can I have multiple images on windows 8.1?
    thank so much.

    Hi ComptonAlvaro,
As the Wbadmin start recovery command deprecate from Windows 8.1, so there is no other way to get multiple versions of system image back. Although
    WbAdmin start backup still works.
    See the picture:

Where does time machine store content that would be found in the Finder window under "All Images, All Movies, All Documents"? Also, I have many Garageband projects and mp3 files I can't find.

Easiest way to find time machine files is to open up the folder or application(works for email and iphoto)  they were in - then click on time machine ICON or enter time machine from the time machine menu to go back through the files.

When previewing images by clicking on the thumbnail in an Event for example, I've been finding that many images preview in a 'zoomed in' way so only a small part of the photos is previewed in a highly magnified view.
Initially I could find no cause. Then I tried right click - Edit and on the affected images, always get this warning:
"Image Cannot Be Edited - This photo was previously edited with another application or with an early version of Iphoto. Duplicate this photo to edit it." and a "Duplicate To Edit" Button is displayed.
The external Editor defined for iPhoto is Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Now, I reckon the MUST be others out there affected by this same apparent Preview bug, yet my searches have not revealed any answers.  Also seems impossible to find a contact number for adobe???

  • Many images do not appear on numerous web pages. How can I fix this? I have graphics enabled.

For quite some time many images just do not appear on web pages. I have taken a screen shot of a page to show what the problem is but can find nowhere to upload it so you can see for yourselves. Now what do I do?

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden "Menu Bar" temporarily.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images
*Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
*If an image in the list is grayed and "<i>Block Images from...</i>" has a check-mark then remove this check-mark to unblock images from this domain.
Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the <b>about:config</b> page should be 1.
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
Note that these settings affect background images.

  • OT but relevant - Just how many images do you have?

These are my own opinions and I'm just interested in other peoples thoughts......
I frequently see posts on this and other forums where people are stating that they have tens of thounds of images. I think the highest I saw recently was over 40,000. (My basic assumption is that these are not Pros)
Its got me wondering about whether the Digital Camera age has also resulted in a culture of Quantity versus Quality that we see in so many other aspects of life.
I've been interested in Digital Photography for 10 years and I'm still not over the 5000 mark. Maybe this is because I grew up on film and couldn't afford to waste materials and time. Over 95% of what I shoot I consider worth keeping and processing.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having as many images as people want but consider the amount of overhead these bring. Megabytes of disk storage, hours spent Reviewing, Organising and Processing. Back to my perhaps contentious statement - how many of these are worth keeping or taking in the first place?
As they say on Exam Papers - Discuss? :-)
    Colin

I read a statement from Ansel Adams that went something like, "Twelve significant photos in a year is plenty." I suppose if you are striving for masterpieces that would be true. But personally, I like the economy of digital photography.
Last summer a bunch of us from my family took a trip to Alaska. Between all of us we had five digital cameras. And they were all used extensively on the trip. At one point we had an opportunity to take a flight over Mount McKinley. All the batteries were dead except for those in one camera, and we only had one card available because we hadn't taken the time to download images for a while. Luckily, the one camera captured some beautiful shots from the flight. They weren't all perfect, and probably none of them would be considered masterpieces. But at least we have a memory of the trip. When we got home and consolidated all of our pictures we 10 CDs full of images. From all of those images we chose about 60 to create a small album to be printed by mypublisher.com. But we have all gone back to those disks to get other pictures for other purposes. We have been glad that we had them.
What boggles my mind is when I read comments that someone has several external hard drives containing their digital images. After I have gone through a bunch of pictures and chosen the best ones and discarded the bad ones, and then have printed the few that I want prints of, I find that I seldom go back and look at them again. So I am archiving on DVD and then deleting them from my hard drives. I know, there is a controversy over the longevity of such a practice. But I plan on routinely making new copies of each DVD and an effort to preserve the images. So far, I have not had any problems.
I have been doing a lot of experimental photography lately. I have been playing around with HDR (High Dynamic Range) which requires several images that are the same except taken at different exposures. And that can fill up a card in a hurry. With experimental photography I think one has to evaluate which, if any, of these images will ever be used again, and then have the discipline to erase all the ones that will never again be needed or looked at. There are very few images that any of us have that are worth agonizing about if they are lost. A picture is just that, a picture. If you have some that you absolutely cannot do without, come up with a storage system that works for you. But keeping every photograph taken is really a waste of disk space, in my opinion.

  • In my Macbook Pro finder folder under All Images, there are duplicate files, but one is small and the other is full size. I wanted to clean up the files, but don't know why I have two of everything. Any Ideas?

In my Macbook Pro, the Finder folder has duplicate images in the 'all images' file. One image is small and the other is full size. First question is why do I have two of every image? Why is one small and the other large. Do I need two of everything? If not, which do I delete?
    thanks, Jean

    Hello fane,
    Re: duplicate images in finder.
Nearly all images are JPG with a few GIF and PNG sprinkled in.
I opened the inspector so I do get info when opening each image, but it a slow process.
It seems that one image is around 70k while its twin can be up to 4Mb which is what comes unedited from my camera. Sometimes there will be 3 or 4 identical images in finder, but when I open iPhoto to see what ‘s really in the file, I find only one image, and it’s full sized.
Are all these extra images, even if they are aliases, taking up space on my drive? And should I delete them? The info bar says I have over 10,000 images, which is rather a lot  for what I do.
I am unable to add the file size on the view menu as it is grayed out. Don’t know why it’s gray, but having that info on the screen would save a lot of time and fiddling with each image.
I am trying to resize selected pix so I can upload them to e-bay, which requires less than 70k. I have looked at resizing programs but most are for PC platform and not Mac, so I am trying to resize in the finder window under tools. Tedious at best. Any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks for your help,

  • How can I drag an image from a page in Safari to the finder and have it be saved as an *actual* image instead of a webloc?

Safari used to let me drag an image from a webpage to the finder and have the dragged file be saved as an actual image but now all that's saved is a webloc file.  I want the image saved, not a reference to the image's URL - do I now have to always use "save as" to save it?
I can understand Safari creating a webloc file if I dragged the site icon from the location bar to the finder, but to make the default behavior for dragging things that are parts of a page (not the page itself) as webloc files seems like a HUGE step backwards for usability.
Does anyone know if there's, say, a key to hold when dragging to avoid saving a webloc file or a defaults command or something to make Safari revert back to sane draging behavior?

Good questions...  I'll have to try and figure out when the problem first happened - I was thinking it was when I upgraded to Safari 5.1.4 but that might not be the case...  I'll try your suggestions to see if any of them eliminate the problem (I have restarted recenlty and that didn't fix it) but I'll try repairing permissions, etc.  Thanks!
hmmm... Mcbuffy: are you implying that you *don't* get the webloc when dragging an image out of Safari and that this isn't a caused by change to Safari but is a big/conflict in mine?

Your image history (if I understand you properly) is stored in your catalog file, and nowhere else, and so it is only on a single drive.
Do you mean you have edited photos on multiple drives? This isn't a problem for Lightroom at all, the software doesn't care, and you can leave things just the way they are. But if it bothers you for some reason, you can move the photos to a single drive if you want. In Lightroom select the desired photos or folders (it's easier to do this using Folders) and drag them to the desired drive.
Alternative if you will be moving lots of folders: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
