In finder, under favorites it displays a numbers file.  I can't click on it. The file has been removed from my computer.  How do I remove this off my favorites menu? How did it get there? Thanks

SOLVED!
Thank you! The swooshing (close enough, huh?) cloud was fantastic! It was like that for over a year!
Thanks much.

i was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ? i dont need the pictures or the back ups , i want to delete them but they are not there

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

• How to make my iPhoto Library appear in Finder under Favorites

I have recently istalled the 10.8 on my iMac. The hard drive has been formated new. At that occasion the old iPhoto Library has been copied (and updated later on). It´s location is in Pictures folder. My question is : can I have it separately as an icon - the way it was before - in Favorites.
This is how it looks now when I open the Finder.

The iPhoto appears as "a document" and not as an icon.. there is no way I can attach a photo from the Library to an email.. or anywhere else.
How to make this work right?
Many thanks.

Well you click the attach file button and then follow my detailed instructions
When sending from a browser based mail use the media browser (in the attach window in the lower left hand corner under media ==> photos ==> iPhoto)
For all supported access methods see the user tip on accessing your iPhoto files -https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto?view=documents

Folder named Marti, not showing and cannot find prompt to bring it back

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Thanks in Advance.

I had the same problem the other day--my totals were listed, but all the other categories under "History" (Last Workout, Recent Workouts and Personal Best) were empty.
I figured everything was lost, but decided to plug my nano back into my MacBook and let it mount in iTunes, then unmount it. I checked the History again. The first time, nothing changed. So I plugged and mounted again. The second time after unmounting, I navigated to the History menu, and suddenly the nano screen displayed a "Loading History" and it slowly loaded all my workouts. A few minutes later, all the History data was available again.
Try that--plug and unplug several times, being sure to allow the nano to properly mount in iTunes before unmounting--to see if you can get the history to load.
(One more thing to note--my nano is set to NOT automatically sync with iTunes, as I prefer to manually manage my music. I don't know if this will make a difference in the handling of workout data, but figured I should mention it here just in case.)

• Since I got OS10.8.2 Safari won't display online PDF files?

Since I got OS10.8.2 Safari won't display online PDF files?
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

• How to merge 2 numbers file???

Is there a way to merge 2 or 3 numbers files into one? I can't find a import into an existing numbers file.
Thanks for your help!

The first method that comes to mind is to copy all the contents of the sidebar in one file and paste them into the sidebar of the second file.
Select a sheet in the sidebar of file 1.
Press CMD-a to select all.
Press CMD-c to copy.
Click in the sidebar of file 2.
Press CMD-v to paste.
Not as elegant as an import, but since all the sheets can be copied at once, this seems simple enough and works well. Once all the sheets are in a single file, then the tables can be dragged around from sheet-to-sheet as needed.

• Under places there is a folder which I can't access and can't delete

In Finder, Under Places there is a folder which I can't access (click on) and therefore can't delete. It has a yellow and black wheel next to it.

This is a burn folder, you can try holding command and dragging it to the trash.
Or try this:  CMCSK      1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW This solved my questionRe: old burn folder Nov 14, 2012 5:23 PM (in response to Maryannd) Go to /Library/Preferences - delete/trash the files labeled "com.apple.finder.plist" and "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" and then restart your computer.  Empty the trash once you reach the desktop.  The untitled dvd folder & burn icon should now be gone from the Finder sidebar.   In addition to removing preference files, if you don't want to use the sidebar for managing CDs and DVDs you can go to the Finder preferences and uncheck the option to show CDs, DVDs, and iPods in the sidebar to prevent them from appearing there in the first place.

Switch to the Finder app and open its preferences.
Remove the check mark on the items you don't want displayed in the Sidebar tab.
The originals are not removed from the machine.

• Displaying negative numbers under certain conditions

I have a Crystal Report which I am developing and need to display positive numbers as negative, but only under certain conditions.  I did not see anything on this type of questions so I decided to join and post it up myself.  This is a transfer report so if the location number entered in the parameter list is the SHIPPING location, I need to display retail, cost, and totals as negative.  Here is the formula which I came up with for ext cost, but it is returning all zeros.  I cannot seperate the to and from locations in the parameters because this report needs to display both in and out of that location.
if totext({?loc}) = totext({Command.SHIP_FROM}) then ({Command.EXT_COST}*-1)
Any suggestions?  Appreciate the help!

Hi Jon,
If it returns zeroes, then it means that this part of the code fails:
totext({?loc}) = totext({Command.SHIP_FROM})
Do you have records where the value entered in the 'loc' prompt matches with records in the SHIP_FROM column on the report?
See if this helps:
if totext({?loc},0,"") = totext({Command.SHIP_FROM},0,"") then ({Command.EXT_COST}*-1)

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and I now cannot find under the file menu the option to "Save As" in my Numbers application. Where did it go?

In many, many apps Apple has now created a confusing array of "save as..", "export", and "duplicate" all doing essentially the same thing - saving a new copy elsewhere possibly with format changes.  Drives me nuts.
But its always there.
