That would most likely be your printer.
If your HP printer has a SD card reader built in, that is the "shared" network device.
Select the hpp78acc06244 and it'll look something like this:

Does anyone thing it's possible that installing the OS without the Airport card working has caused the system to completley ignore it even though it may now have a working card and cable, seems unlikely to me but really struggling to know where to look now.

  • HT1549 Unknown PC Server in Finder under SHARED

I see a PC Server - Name: dhcp-9-72-7-33 - in my Finder under SHARED. I have no PC in my network. I'm trying to remove it. Any idea what this can be?
    How can I remove it?

(I posted this on a different thread with the same problem ---"Re: Unknown Server appearing in Sidebar")
on my MacBook Pro in 10.5.2 I am having the same problem -- seeing a bogus 'pc server' BRN_8111C (for security reasons I am not including the real number not really 8111, but similar) on my finder window side bar in the Sharing section - info says it is 'pc server'
now my iMac with 10.4 can see in the network section of the finder side bar and also shows the same item - and another MAC0017f2...... which Applecare has helped be determine is my ethernet card identity serial number .... now when I shut off the MacBook Pro which is wi-fi to a Belkin g wi-fi router connected to my office lan, the image of the MacBook Pro goes away almost instantly. And if I restart the iMac the bogus images are not there -- about 1 to 2 seconds after I open the MacBook Pro , its image is seen in the Network on the iMac and then... amazingly, 3 to 6 seconds later the 2 bogus images - MAC0017.... and the BRN_8111C images, simultaneously! So undoubtedly the MAC0017.. image is some reflection of my computers ethernet card and the other image must be coming out of my MacBook Pro as well... what and why I don't know but it is not at all possible to be a rogue computer popping on my network always simultaneously with my own image. Anyone have a clue what is going on?

  • PC server not showing up in Finder under shared

    Hi
I installed Leopard on the 26th and my home windows PC is not showing up under shared and its not showing up in the network folder under mshome like it did in tiger. ive checked the PC and file sharing is enabled in the firewall and i even installed bonjour for windows but no luck.
the only way i can do it is "connect to server" (command-k) in the finer and use SMB smb://IP/shared name but it shows up under shared with an apple display icon and the PCs IP address. i was under the impression that PC servers automagically appear in the finder under shared with its shared name and a PC icon with the "blue screen of death". how do i get it to do this?
    thanks

    Hi,
One of the posters in this forum said that you had to do the change of workgroup in a Location profile that's not active. Then, change to that inactive Location profile for the thing to work.
Here's what I did on mine. I created a copy of the current working Location profile. Using the copy, I went to the WINS section and changed the workgroup to whatever my workgroup name was (make sure you press ENTER too for the workgroup name to stick). Then, I switched to the copy.

  • In the lefthand sidebar of Finder, under 'Shared', I encounter in addition my TC, another computer, identified by a long name starting with 'hp'. I don't have another computer. What could this be? And how to get rid of it?

In the Finder sidebar, under 'Shared', I encounter my TC, as well as another item with a long name starting with 'hp'. 'Get info' shows it to be a 'PC'. However, I don't have a PC. It cannot be my printer (HP), since that has anoter name.
I can not access the item, which has me a 'guest'.
What could this item be? And how to get rid of it?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    DB

It's almost certainly your hp printer and is showing the WiFi adapter MAC address after the HP.
To verify, look at the printer configuration page via Bonjour in Safari.  The settings tab shows the Mac address in the bottom left hand corner for my model of HP printer.
I'm sorry but I can't explain why that would show up in the finder.

  • Airport Extreme (2nd gen) not seen in Finder under "shared"

    Specs:
    15-inch Early 2008 >Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo>Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM>Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Airport Extreme Second Gen with Airport Utility 7.6.1
I do not want to update to Mountain Lion again.. since the first time proved to bring with it crashing and lots of glitches. And, I only ever do totally clean installs, wiping my HD with a 3x pass in disk utility. Main problem: External HD's which used to connect to my network with the AE under the "shared" sidebar, no longer appear. Matter of fact, my Airport Extreme in general, no longer appears in the Network folder. Nor do I see the ext HD under the "Disks" tab in Airport Utilities.
The external IS formatted as HFS Journaled *extended*, and has been for a while, back to when it used to work. I'm not sure of when it stopped being recognized, but the factors that have changed since then are that I did update to ML, but soon after went back to Lion. I also recently moved, and had to set up a new network of course. I also think perhaps that the Airport Utility version changed during this time.
I've read so many support documents, forum threads *different forums* and nothing seems to point me to a working solution. The HD does indeed work, since I of course plugged it straight in to my MacBook Pro's, and it shows up on both of them. Oh, should note that the other MBP is a year newer than the one listed above. It is the first unibody model 13".  Question is, why would something that was working, stop working? I'd maybe be brave enough to roll back to Snow Leopard, but I'm really positive it was also working under Lion, so I shouldn't have to.
I'd really love some help on this please. Oh, and this is NOT in order to use Time Machine. I never use it. This is simply to access redundant backup drives on the network for photos and music.
    Thanks much,
    Doug

I spoke too soon, sort of. While the information I got from the Sonos website is accurate, and did indeed help in getting things started, the external HD with the enclosure I bought still isn't working! I even went so far as to reformat the drive last night, even though it was already formatted correctly. Just tried a few minutes ago, and nothing...  The permissions look exactly as they do on the other disks so I'm not sure of what's up. At first, I thought that maybe Apple changed something about how the Airport Extreme sees externals, such as they must meet specific network based criteria... but then I tried a several year old iOmega portable Go drive, that I hooked up via micro USB and it worked immediately.
Now I'm wondering if there really might be something to what you said, about the enclosure. Is there a precedent for such an issue? Has anybody else here experienced this?  But the wacky thing is that this external with enclosure was working perfectly not too long ago. So what has changed? I moved, and set up a new network. That has changed. But aside from that? I tried earlier firmware versions, and that did nothing. So either an OS update or my enclosure is all of a sudden wonky... even though it works perfectly otherwise? VERY confusing.  BTW, the enclosure is a Rosewill.

  • Strange Computers Showing in Finder under "Shared"

Strange devices "ludwig" and "Walter-IBM" keep appearing in Finder. I use a password protected network. Cannot connect to the devices. Why are these showing up in my shared devices list? How do I ensure these computers are not connecting to my network?

How do I ensure these computers are not connecting to my network?
If these are not computers that are supposed to appear on your network, then it's possible that they have cracked your network somehow in order to use it for free. If you're using a WEP encrypted network, note that it can be cracked in under a minute at this point. You should switch to WPA, and make sure you use a decent password.
Of course, it's far more likely that these are devices of some kind that are supposed to be on your network. For example, if you have a hard drive connected to your wireless router, that will show up in your Shared list.

  • In finder, I have periodically a "shared" PC showing up. I have Java, I think someone is trying to access my computer but i cannot find anything when I click on the shared item, just a PC with numbers.

In Finder, I have periodically a "shared" PC showing up, I have Java. When i click on the shared PC, no information is avaiable, just
hp3cd92ba6f70c. I have tried removing it from finder from the previuos discussions instuctions  but cannot. I have two mac laptops, Ipad and two iphones that connect wifi. Not a PC in the house., Ideas? do they have access to my computer? Has someone broken through to my wifi?

When you turn on your Mac is will search for any computers that it's possible to connect to. You can't connect with any of them unless you and other computer user set up a sharing network.
It's like looking through a window. You can see someone on the other side but can't communicate with them unless you open the window and shout at them.

  • Printer attached to wifi AP shows up under 'Shared' in Finder; can't print

I have reviewed quite a few threads on Bonjour printing problems cropping up in the move from 10.4 to 10.5. I still can't seem to get mine to work.
I printed fine to my printer (connected to wireless AP) under Tiger, but can't even do an 'Add Printer' for it after upgrading to Leopard.
Oddly, my printer's Node Name shows up in the Finder under 'Shared'. So it seems that my mac sees the printer. The entire network consists of the mac, wireless AP, and printer.
    Any other ideas? Thanks!

Let me suggest going to this thread on the Airport printing discussion.
    I found two issues:
    1) HP's having problems with file permissions. Run *Disk Repair* first, then download and run the *newest HP printer drivers*.
    2) Apple seems to have introduced something called CUPs. It's new to me and every computer I have that runs on Leopard or was recently upgraded to Leopard has very confusing printing problem, directly connected or wirelessly connected.
The thread above is helpful, but somewhere, I need to learn more about CUPS.
Try putting *http://localhost:631/* in your browser!
As soon as I figure it out, I'll let you know.
I also changed my USB cables to *USB2 cables*. Suddenly, it seems to matter!?

  • Help with deletion of two items in my Finder found under 'Shared'

I would like suggestion on how to delete two items in the Finder. They are listed under 'Shared'
I have to iMac OSX Yosemite. Can you help?

They do not have access to your computer. They are broadcasting sharing services to your network, and your computer is detecting them and showing them to you in the sidebar. This is your computer accessing them, and not the other way around. The first is your Epson printer on your network, which has network printing capabilities that it is broadcasting. The other name is too generic to figure out, but is likely a similar networked device, and can be your router, a scanner, printer, or any other such device.
Configuring the systems to prevent this would be a matter of accessing their setups according to their manufacturers' directions (either by way of a utility program, or a Web page that you log into), and then seeing if there are various network services on them that you can disable to prevent the broadcasting of these services on your network. Unfortunately this is not always possible to do, at least without disabling wanted features (like being able to print via the network instead of using a USB cable), so in general your best bet is to simply ignore these items, or hide them if you do not want to see them.

  • Network devices not showing up under "shared" in finder bar

Ok so i have a network that consists of a maxtor nas device, 2 win xp pc's, 1 win7 pc, d-link 524 router, and my macbook pro. I would like to be able to transfer files between my mac and the devices and use the printer attached to my maxtor. My issue is that none of the computers show up under the "shared" section of finder or under network. I use to have this issue with leopard but it resolved itself. Now under snow leopard for a couple months and i have yet to get it work. I can access my mac and other pcs from a pc. Anyone know how to get my network to show up on my mac?

Your problem is very common under Snow. At first my shares did not show up under shared in finder windows. I, then, of course, used "Connect to Server" to connect to the shares--both Mac and PC. I found that the more I kept the shares active the more likely they were show up under shared. Then, I discovered that if I kept the computers from sleeping during the period of needed access they would tend to stay in shared without nearly so much keeping the connections active.
If you do not like the above work around, then there are two other possibilities. You can elect to show mounted items on your desktop. Do that and connect to each share. Then, go > users > unlock > + login options > try dragging the mounted shares to the login item window. If successful, then the shares should be available at login.
Another approach is to mount and connect as indicated above. Then, making an alias to the share should at least make things faster.

  • Getting Rid of Airport Extremes under Shared Devices in Finder Side Bar

In the Finder side bar, under Shared, I see a nice list of all the computers on my local network.
Unfortunately, I also see my Airport Extremes (I have two) and they show up as type "PC Server". How can I fix this problem either by not having the Airport Extremes show up while keeping the rest of my computers showing up correctly or (ii) having the finder understand that these are Airport Extremes and not try to connect to them and show the wrong icon.
    Thanks,
    Robert

I appreciate you taking the time to look. My 3 macs are now displaying only other Leopard computers. The strange ones have disappeared. One strange listing did look like my airport express base station. I have a 2nd express airport which servers to play my itunes. I, also, have two PCs on a Linksys wireless network and a wireless printer on my airport network.
Have no idea why the strange additions have disappeared. In an attempt to get them to disappear, I did shut down & restart each computer (Macs & PCs), unplugged and replugged both express airports, turned off then on the printer, and unplugged and replugged the linksys wireless router connected to my DSL modem. My goal was to isolate the equipment causing the strange listings. No luck. Could only modify the strange listing by totally taking down the wireless network at the DSL modem. Then, after returning from working at a client's; everything looked normal. ?????
