! - in front of some songs in my library

Hoping someone can help.
I had about 600 songs on my iTunes and iPod.
I just spent about 4 hours downloading about another 200 songs, then I updated my iPod. Now there are exclamations points in front of some songs and it seems to be whole albums. I looked a little and some are new stuff I just downloaded and some are on songs that have been in both my iTunes and iPod for quite awhile.
I tried right clicking on it, using help, etc. and cannot seem to find what that means.
Is this something I should be concerned about??
Thanks!
Also, one other thing. I downloaded a full album but chose only certain songs for putting on the iPod. I unchecked the songs I didn't want to put on the iPod and it put them on anyway. More of a frustration than anything else, but if anyone has any thoughts on that, I'd appreciate it.

Melissas92,
By moving the music and artist files and folders around outside of iTunes you have destroyed the links that iTunes had with these files. Remember iTunes is simply a jukebox or database of music files. You click a link to play a file and it goes to the place where it believes the file was stored, and activates/plays it.
Some tracks, whether purchased or not, have been determined by somebody to be "compilations", and so that is how they are sorted in the file folders rather than the traditional artist>album>song. My hind site suggestion is to always edit the track info to undo this. Simply highlight the tracks, click command+i and down in the bottom left should be an option for complilations (select No) and this will move the files under the artist folders rather than the compilation folder. iTunes does all the work for you and no links are broken (I don't know where this compilation check box is when you select only one song).
To fix your current problem one of the following should work:
1. Move all the files back to compilations, quit iTunes and reopen
2. click cmd+i on each individual track with a problem and it will ask you to locate the file. Direct it to the new place you've filed it to, this will recreate the link.
3. try and delete the song in iTunes and the drag and drop the track file back into iTunes. The you may need to go through the uncompilation process one more time.
Good luck, tell me how it goes.

  • HT1296 there are small circles in front of some song & they wont sync ?

  • Why do some songs in my library now only play for a few seconds and then skip onto another song?

Some songs that previously played without issue now just play for the first 10 seconds or so and then skip onto the next song

I wish I could provide you an answer, but I am experiencing the same issue myself. It's somehow iTunes related from what I have been able to figure out.
Here are a couple of clues I've picked up so far:
Somewhere between 20-30% of the songs in my library are affected.
I have only seen AAC encoded songs exhibit the problem (iTunes purchased, not imported).
I haven't seen the issue with any songs I bought after Jan 20, 2009.
Playing the same song file in quicktime doesn't reproduce the issue.
Affected songs skip on both iTunes and the iPod app of my iPhone 4 alike.
Forcing the song to stop at the end through the song options doesn't resolve the problem.
Songs skip (end) at random times from song to song, but repeatedly for each song at the same location.
The biggest clue that I've found is that when I find an affected file, almost all songs I purchased on that date exhibit the same problem. (I have only found a few examples when it does not affect every song on the same purchase date group.)
    Some details about my setup:
    Windows 7 Professional
    iTunes version 10.6.3.25
    iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Some songs in shared library fail to play

I have my iTunes library on an external USB drive connected to a mac mini. The mini shares its iTunes library (iTunes 7.6) over the airport network, and I could successfully connect to it and play all songs on my macbook pro (also iTunes 7.6).
I have just added some songs to the mini's library. They were flac format which I converted to Apple lossless using XLD, a procedure which I had used successfully in the past (when the library was connected to the macbook pro). Trying to play these recently added songs, only songs under three minutes long play correctly. The others refuse to start, showing the 'silent loudspeaker' icon. When un-highlighted they show an exclamation mark. Get info on the macbook pro tells me the songs are there, and they play perfectly well from the mini.
Another macbook pro running iTunes 7.5 also shows the same symptoms.
Other than the length of the songs, I can't see any difference between the songs that play and the songs that don't. Permissions on the music library on the external drive are me - rw, all - rw, but permissions are set to be ignored on that volume (I am reluctant to change this because the volume also contains a time machine backup, which is a bit touchy about things like that!).
Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem, please.
    Many thanks.

The fix for this is to select the track that show this effect in the iTunes library, and go to Advanced - convert selection to Apple lossless. Then replace all the old tracks with the new ones in all your playlists.
It appears that the Apple lossless files I created recently using XLD have this problem, in conjunction with this version of iTunes/Quicktime. Strange, since lots of files previously created by XLD (possibly an older version?) work fine.
Meanwhile, the current version of Max creates Apple lossless files which work fine.

  • When i connect my iPod to my computer it does not sync fully. Some songs in the library have an ! next to them. Apple have just replaced my original one as the battery was failing. Any suggestions?

When i connect my iPod to the computer it does not fully sync. Some of the songs in the library are marked with an ! and it says the songs cannot be found but when the iPod is not connected they are all there. Any ideas? Thanks

I had this problem before. What I did (which is good advice to anyone with electronic copies of music) is to back up all my music to an external hard drive. I then deleted all music from iTunes and copied back across from my external hard drive. Just make sure that under Preferences - Advanced in iTunes, you have iTunes Media folder location set as your C: drive, tick the boxes for "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library".

  • My daughter and I each have iTunes libraries on the same computer, how can I move some songs from one library to the other?

  • ITunes will not acknowledge some songs in my library

    Hi
Recently transferred entire library from an old computer to new one, after which several albums and individual songs could not be located. Many of these I found in the itunes folder where itunes had filed them (by artist etc) but it was not picking them up. So I went through and found them all as prompted when attempting to play songs with an exclamation mark next to them, I also noticed it has dropped whole albums and random songs from the library for no reason, and does not display these at all. Consolidating does not seem to help itunes recognise and display them.
How can I get itunes to have a proper look in the library and display all my music??
    cheers
    Dan

All songs play on the laptop windows 8. The second Ipod touch we have - all songs synch to it and play.
But the first Ipod touch we bought - only half (or so) of the songs synch. So I assume there is an issue with the newer Ipod touch. The songs not synching are songs I added to the library from CD's.

  • HT4914 Why does iTunes Match not really match some songs in my library? Any thoughts?

I have noticed that many songs in my library are really not upgraded to 256, even though they say Matched. I thought Matched was supposed to also mean "We found your song and upgraded it to 256." Am I wrong? Thanks.

    Hey SeanE80

  • Why can't I play some songs in my library?

My Itunes library has about a thousand and 200 songs... But there are 400 songs that i can't play or even I can't put them on my Ipod because they have in their left side a tick : I Tunes ask me to find them in a paste but i can't find them.. How can i stay with these musics and make them playable!? PLEASE HELP ME AND DON'T DECLARE THAT I WILL HAVE TO LOOSE ALL THESE 400 SONGS!!!

You get exclamation marks or dead tracks because iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed
Do did you change anything or do you have any other software that can rename or move files?
You can try using Windows search to look for some of the files so see if you can find them. Also look in the recycle bin.
If you have not synced you iPod since the problem started and you have the tracks on the iPod there is software that will allow you to copy the files from the iPod to the PC.

Otherwise you need to recover your files from backup if you made a back up.
If none of these work you will have to re-rip the tracks if you have them on CD.

  • Is there a way to NOT play some songs in the Library while on Party Shuffle

Is there a way I can tell my iTunes AND my iPod NOT to play certain songs when I am listening on Party Shuffle?
For Example - I have a number of songs that I downloaded for the Holidays - the Genre is Holiday - and I don't want to listen to them during most of the year - can I tell iTunes AND my iPod NOT to play them when I have it on 'Party Shuffle' or when I am playing from the Library ?
    Thanks!
Dell Dimension   Windows XP Pro   iTunes 6
    Dell Dimension   Windows XP Pro

Make a "smart playlist" and set the parameters as genres NOT Holiday
and then in the Party Shuffle get Party Shuffle to play from that smart playlist and then Party Shuffle will not play your Holiday songs
    I hope this helps

  • Just got iphone 5-only syncs a few songs from itunes library. some songs on ipad. would like them all on new iphone

Please help!  I have a new iPhone. Have some songs from iTunes library on iPad and only a few transferred to new phone when synced. Tried deleting songs from iPad and they went to iCloud.  So now I have songs in iCloud on iPad and some songs on iPhone. Help! I want ALL iTunes library on new phone.

I hope I'm not too confusing--to clarify: I have iTunes library on the computer. When I got the iPad, most of them transferred to that. I read somewhere on here how to delete those songs and they are now 500+ songs in iCloud...I think. Tried putting the iTunes library onto new iPhone 5s a few days ago and only 149 out of 1100 songs transferred. HOw can I get my whole library from the computer to my new phone?  I don't need them on my iPad.

  • Why after upgrading to the new os do some songs in the Ipod library have a dashed circle next to them.

After upgrading to the new os some songs in my library will not sync to my Ipod. I can see them on my computer in the Ipod library with a dashed circle next to them.  How do I get them to play on my Ipod.  They are songs from store bought CD's in my Itunes library that will play on my computer in Itunes.  They do not appear on my Ipod.  I can see them when the Ipod is connected to the computer in the Ipod library.  I reset the Ipod by holding the home & power button, I went into general settings and reset the device.  I synced again but still no songs.

I have the same problem even from iTunes bought music it appears with dashed grey circle beside the ones that I have recently added to my iPod by downloading them from the iPod itself. I honestly think it has to do with the 7.0.3 update that they have recently released. It may have solved other problems but it has created more problems along the way.
Hopefully there will be a solution soon, if anyone has news or solutions please post thankyou
At least now I know I'm not the only one with the same kinda problem
