I have tried to download Firefox...3.6.12.exe
I keep getting a message, on the bottom of the screen,
"This type of file can harm your computer"
Can you advise please, as I haven't had an problems with Firefox in the past.

Does it still let you download the file? If it does, and you are trying to download the file from http://www.mozilla.com/ ignore the message and download the file.

You get that message any time you download an executable file. It is safe to open as long as you download from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Is Alchemy by Camel Audio safe to download ?
Are you asking about this panel or a similar warning?
You will see this kind of warning for every program that you install and that is not signed by an Apple approved Deveveloper certificate.
I have no experience with that particular audio Unit, but the documentation on the camel site does not mention the compatibility with the newer Mac OS X versions. So be sure to make a full backup of your system before installing the plug-in.  Incompatible VST plug-ins can destabilize the system.

  • I get message "this type of file can harm your computer" when trying to install AA

AA was working fine until today tweetdeck said I needed to make an AA update.  I tried from the AA site, but I keep getting this message.  Then I tried to throw aware the AA application installer (already in on my computer from before) and nothing changed.  I pulled it on the desktop and double clicked, nothing happened.
Any clue what is wrong? Or what to do?  I'm not even clear "where" the adobe air program is since I cannot find it in my application folder.
I can't even find a way to uninstall or reinstall it.
    Kate

    Hi Kate,
Thanks for clarifying.  You should be able to download the file "Adobe AIR.dmg" from the http://get.adobe.com/air/ link.  Check your "Downloads" folder for this file.  Once you double click it, it will mount an Adobe AIR volume that might or might not appear on your desktop.  If it doesn't appear on the desktop, open the Finder and look for it on the left bar.  Once you find it, go inside and double click the "Adobe AIR Installer" file.  That should start the process.  If the message appears, just click OK to allow it to continue.
As for the uninstaller, there should be an "Adobe AIR Uninstaller" application in your /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can also find additional information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/902/cpsid_90205.html
    Thanks,

When you have downloaded it, then clean out the old adobe reader and then try to install the latest one, i had to do this about a week ago and it solved the problem.

Every time I try to download Java for Lion (no matter what the source) all I get is a document image labelled "unconfirmed download" and a warning that this type of file may harm my computer. What am I doin wrong?

    Donna...
Even from Apple?  >  Java for OS X Lion Update 1
Restart your Mac before trying to download the file.
Do you have anti virus software installed or a program like LIttle Snitch?
If you are using Safari to download files, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that doesn't help, back to the menu bar, click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes then click Reset.
If you still can't download the Java file, go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac. Try downloading that file again.
If it still won't download without that dialog, go to ~/Library/Safari. Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
    Try again.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

When I try to sync my iPhone, I get the message: The iPhone cannot be synced. You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation.
The iPhone won't sync anymore.  How can I fix this?

This works even for my ipod on my computer. I recently time machined myself and when i open intunes it always does all that backgroud magic and  pops up saying "....You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation."
It turns out i don't need that, because i do not use sync. I do not sync. I don't use the sync. I abstain from getting my sync on...etc.
The first solution posted above works, i'll repeat it but  credit goes to King_Penguin a true friend from the motherland! Just find this one file and delete it.

  • When I try to install, I recieve a statement saying this type of file could harm my Computer?

As I've stated, I try to install FoxFire and a message appears, at the Run position, saying (This type of file could harm your com-
puter) If I was to go on and install it, Why, does this warning
    appear?

This is displayed whenever you attempt to run an .exe file. It's simply to warn you that there may be dangers when you run these types of files, so make sure you trust the publisher.
Firefox is completely safe, and contains no malicious software, so just go ahead and click that Run button, you'll feel much better for it ;)

I lost my handset (iphone 4s) and now have a replacement but when I try to restore from icloud I get a message saying 'cannot load backups'. Can anyone help?

Unless you've tried to install an older version of iTunes that message likely indicates a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash...

  • I uninstalled Thunderbird but when i try to reinstall it I keep getting a message that the system must be rebooted to finalize the uninstall, over & over again.

I am using a laptop with Windows 7. For several weeks Thunderbird has been running very slowly & there are messages saying a script is running too long. So I decided to try to clean up all the mail boxes, but still get the messages...so then I decided to uninstall Thunderbird and this worked correctly & I rebooted the system (as it asked me to). But when I try to re- install Thunderbird I keep getting a message that the system must be rebooted to finalize the uninstall. I did this but the same thing happens each time I try to install...so now I have no mail application on my laptop. Most frustrating but fortunately I have an iPad...
Can someone please advise? Thanks in advance

you original problem is almost certainly your anti virus, I would also hazard a guess your new one is as well.
Thunderbird does not require a reboot on install, or uninstall.
try restarting the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • TS1424 downloaded an entire album and everything is fine on my iPod, but on the computer 7 tracks have an exclamation point and when I try to play those track I get a message that the original files are missing.

Exlamation point on 7 tracks from an entire album, all the others are fine.  It won't play on the laptop, I get an error message that the original files are missing.  But they play fine on the iPod.

Try deleting those missing tracks from your computer's iTunes, connect the iPad to your computer and do File > Transfer Purchases - that should copy them back from the iPod

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?
