In-Home agent available updates

I  often get a pop up on my PC from the IN_HOME AGENT that says updates are available for download.  When I select "download" it goes through a couple of steps then ends at a SUPPORT screen that says "PLEASE WAIT",   This screen/message does not change until I eventually close the screen.  I have left that particular screen up up to 4 hours.   How do I know when the updates are completed?  We are on FIOS.

Hello Jmadams,
It sounds most likely that the IHA program may have been halted from your computers firewall, Anti-virus, Malware or Spam blocking program which is not that uncommon.  Depending on the programs on the computer there may even be a pop up asking for permission to continue or allow.  If the IHA program does not acknowledge a completed update all you need to do it close the IHA program and restart it.  The program will automatically detect any updates and resume if it was not completed.
Thank you

I like the online version of the app at www.verizon.com/repair
you can do a lot of the functions of the app without all the bloatware.
    b)
As other have said it does something, it waste resources.  Not sure on the MAC, but on PC's it has been none to drive at least one cpu to 100% (If you only have one its really bad).  And the number of functions it does that you might ever want to do is minimal.
Personally I recommend that you uninstall it, and make sure you get all pieces of it.

Count yourselves lucky, That program is more trouble than help. It took me about 90 seconds to realize this and to remove it from my system. If you have any real questions about anything more complex than hitting the enter key, you are not going to find any answers from the In Home Agent. Its all basic stuff and will not help with any real issues.
You will probably find better, more easy to understand and more usable answers on Google than you can in any verizon software i have seen to date.

  • In home agent

Should I uninstall In Home Agent to avoid getting this worm that it may carry in updates?  Is Verizon doing anything about this problem reported several times on this forum?

The in home agent is a safe software. Not that I find it particuarly useful, but it is safe to install. Most people never have an issue with it. Some were infected, but not by the IHA software. They got infected by another piece of spyware/virus that infected the IHA software. But there is no fear or concern in the IHA software itself. It carrys the same risk that any piece of software has. No more, no less.

  • In Home Agent won't launch but indicates it's already running

From the time I downloaded a new release of InHomeAgent it won't work. It had worked properly previous to that.   I have uninstalled and re-installed it from the web site repeatedly.  When I click on the icon, I am prompted to allow IHAstarter.exe to execute.  A pop up window says IHA is already running but it is not.  I checked the Task Manager and it does not appear as an application.  I have reported it to Verizon tech support which merely forwards it to the developers who have never responded.  I am running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8.  I always install updates promptly.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Will Verizon address this problem?

In home agent was (indirectly) consuming a huge number of CPU cycles -- 25%? -- interfering with other work and putting the machine dangerously near overheating.
    Uninstalled it, problem solved.
If and when Verizon fixes this, they can contact us and beg us to look at it again. Until then...

  • How to add agent software in the agent software update list from OEM12C?

The OMS version is 12C. In the OEM web page, the agent software should have a list for all platform in the agent software update list, where you can go from setup => extensibility => self update => agent software. But we only have agent for linux. The rest of them were removed earlier. We need to add back the agent software for Sun SPARC and Sun x86 (intel). Can somebody tell how to do it?
    Thanks!

If you have deleted the agent software in self update then its very simple to get them back.
    a) From the Self Update page, select the Agent Software entity, then click Check Updates to get the latest agent binaries
    b) A job is triggered and once it is done, you will see that the Available Updates column has been updated. A confirmation message is also displayed.

  • Uninstall In Home Agent from a Mac

I have been unable to identify how to uninstall In Home Agent on my iMac. Can someone identify the main filename for this program?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's super annoying when tech guy comes into your house and install a "junk" program on your personal computer and you have hard time to removing it afterwards... when I turn on my Mac today, the verizon updater just automatically started on my start up items. I quited it, and it would start again.
The way I removed it was, just go to Application folder in your finder, and search for Verizon, it should come up with 3 different Verizon programs, In Home Agent, Updater and something else I forgot, just simply drag them to trash can and empty your trash. You will have a bit hard time to delete the updater because it keeps saying cannot delete because the program is open. You have to quit the program on your screen's top right corner, then go to System Preference, under User Group, click on your user name, and on the right there is start up items, uncheck Verizon Updater, and click on minus button to remove them from start up items. Restart your computer, now you should be able to remove the Verizon Updater in your Application folder.

  • In home agent and Windows 7

My laptop uses Windows 7 and the in-home agent installed but said support for my OS was unavailable. What steps do I take to manually setup my laptop to the 9100EM router?

If you're connecting the laptop by a hard wire, just connecting the ethernet cable should provide a connection, provided that the LAN connections TCP/IP settings are set to use the router's DHCP.
If you're connecting wirelessly, simply select the E/SSID or network name from the list of available networks. You can get this list by clicking on the network icon in your system tray by the clock. When you go to connect to the network, it'll ask you for an encryption key. You want to input the WEP key. Both the ESSID and WEP key can be found on a label on your router.
Alternatively, I've heard that in-home agent will run in Windows 7 but you have to enable compatibility mode for XP or Vista when you run it.

  • Verizon In Home Agent Annoyance

I do not want this thing running unless I choose to start it up.  How do I disable autorun or if I can't do that, how do I uninstall it from Windows XP.
    Solved!

First thing I tried, but there is nothing in the list of installed software called Verizon In Home Agent.  Is it under some other program name?
I see it in my add/remove programs as
    Vz In Home Agent
I also see it in my start menu as
    Verizon->Fios->In Home agent
However I then STUPIDLY selected it and it said it had an update and I let it run.
The update didn't complete properly - they've messed up the msi installer package script
and after it fails my start up menu looks just like yours.
Try clicking on the last empty item in the menu, I did, it then completed the agent install and you can remove it normally

  • In Home Agent doesn't load properly

I have two nearly identical desktops and a laptop.  The IHA doesn't load properly on one of the desktops.  All have Win XP SP3 with all the security updates.  All use Firefox as the default browser, but do have IE8 installed and working.
On the one that IHA doesn't load properly, when attempting to load, I wind up with two icons in the system tray.  One is labeled MSI1F.tmp; the second, MSI18.tmp.  Both tool tips show "Script paused" checked.  If I restart the computer, the icons disappear.
If I attempt to execute the IHA, it starts up, and looks like it wants to work, but when I get to the page with the toolbar at the top and I click on "Internet," the body of the page goes blank and does not display anything.
Going to the feedback portion on the laptop (so I can be next to the desktop), I contacted support, and they were able to use remote control of my computer, but couldn't do any good and gave up.
Everything else seems to work.  I can connect to the internet, but downloading a large file, such as Flash Player, is excruciatingly slow (that's what started all of this); the working units just fly.  Using the laptop, I have been able to isolate the problem down to something inside the desktop, eliminating connection, router, and wiring issues.  I have also tried using a wired and a wireless connection with the same basic results, making me think that it is just not one of the hardware interfaces (The wired connection is 1.0 Gbps and the wireless is "n.")
Any ideas short of just reloading XP and all of the other software?
    Thanks.

Not sure if reloading will help In-Home Agent start working. I'm not sure what the fix would be for this but the software is known to be a bit glitchy. A lot of us just prefer removing it from the machine if all works well, unless you need a specific feature/repair option within the software.
