In home agent

Should I uninstall In Home Agent to avoid getting this worm that it may carry in updates?  Is Verizon doing anything about this problem reported several times on this forum?

The in home agent is a safe software. Not that I find it particuarly useful, but it is safe to install. Most people never have an issue with it. Some were infected, but not by the IHA software. They got infected by another piece of spyware/virus that infected the IHA software. But there is no fear or concern in the IHA software itself. It carrys the same risk that any piece of software has. No more, no less.

  • Does the DVR/STB have to be on the LAN for In-Home Agent to work?

I'm a brand new user and am trying to learn the the new features that Fios brings to the party.  When my install was done I asked that the wireless feature be disabled on the router (I have a good wired network for my PCs and they were all connected to the supplied router).  All of my services work (TV, Ph, Internet) but I just noticed that when I go to In-Home Agent, the only selectable option is that for Internet.  I have a sneaky suspicion that the DVR/STB are controlled over the network.
Can I connect the DVR to my wired network (Ethernet connection) and get the In-Home Agent functionality back?

Verizon boxes communicate with the LAN via MoCA.  This is done over the coaxial cable.  If you have guide information then that is working properly.  Youy don't need wireless and the RJ-45 on the back of the STB is not active, so "hooking up" to your wired network would do no good.

  • VZ In-Home Agent says I'm not connected to internet, but I am

I tried to setup Outlook 2007 to use my verizon.net email.  Anyway I couldn't get it to work manually.  So I downloaded VZ - In-Home Agent.  Everytime I use it, it checks everything (network, wireless, router), when it gets to the point where it tries to have the router connect to the internet, the Agent says it can not connect to the internet.  I am currently on the internet using that router.  I disabled all firewall, virus scans, etc and it keeps saying "You do not have an internet connection."
I select fix it and the agent runs
    "Fix my Fios Internet Connection"
It passes Browser health Check, wireless adapter, wired adapter, Checking Lan Connectivity,
Checking for internet connection of Fios Router. That fails and it tells me to reboot my OMT or something, it's the big FIOS box on my wall in the basement.  I reboot it and follow the instructions.  I then get this error:
A connection could not be established between your computer and the FIOS Router.  You can also try the following:
    1.Reboot your computer. (Did).
2.Check if you are able to connect to the internet using any other computers.  (I can and I can with this one too)
    Can someone help me?

Sounds like In Home Agent is bugging out.. I would ignore it and continue manually setting up + troubleshooting your Outlook 2007 account.
As you said, you're setting up your verizon.net email so the settings should be as follows:
incoming server: incoming.verizon.net (incoming.yahoo.verizon.net if you have the Yahoo portal partner)
    outgoing server: outgoing.verizon.net (outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net if you're Yahoo)
    Outgoing server requires authentication
    Username/pass for your Verizon account
    Ports are default (110 + 25) ..
Is this how your account is set up in Outlook? What errors are you receiving when you try to send/receive?

  • In-Home Agent for Mac doesn't work - never has

I signed up for FIOS service several months ago and have never been able to get Verizon In-Home Agent to work. I can get as far as the level shown below, but when I select one of the grayed options, I get the spinning icon. (See it at lower left corner of the window.) That lasts for a few minutes, then nothing happens - it just goes back to the same window.
I even tried clicking the "Click here to provide your Feedback." I get the same icon (hard to see, but it's to the left of that link), then back to the same window.
    Running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Any ideas?

I just got FIOS in my all-Mac household. Nothing works for the Mac in FIOS. Not the FIOS t.v. widgets, In-Home Agent or anything else. Verizon is the most Mac unfriendly telecom company I've ever seen. Ironic if you think about what its products are.
All that will work on a Mac is that it will connect to the Internet. Period.
Verizon, would it really be too much cost or trouble to develop more Macintosh options?

Got to love Vz In-Home Agent to help troubleshoot a connection problem.  First the agent tries to look for updated (of course it can't cause I can't connect to the internet) then it tells me something about limited help cause it can not connect.  Hello, your suppose to help me connect not complain cause I'm not connected.

    #1 I point to

    a)
i like the online version of the app at www.verizon.com/repair
you can do a lot of the functions of the app without all the bloatware.
    b)
As other have said it does something, it waste resources.  Not sure on the MAC, but on PC's it has been none to drive at least one cpu to 100% (If you only have one its really bad).  And the number of functions it does that you might ever want to do is minimal.
Personally I recommend that you uninstall it, and make sure you get all pieces of it.

  • In Home Agent won't launch but indicates it's already running

From the time I downloaded a new release of InHomeAgent it won't work. It had worked properly previous to that.   I have uninstalled and re-installed it from the web site repeatedly.  When I click on the icon, I am prompted to allow IHAstarter.exe to execute.  A pop up window says IHA is already running but it is not.  I checked the Task Manager and it does not appear as an application.  I have reported it to Verizon tech support which merely forwards it to the developers who have never responded.  I am running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8.  I always install updates promptly.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Will Verizon address this problem?

In home agent was (indirectly) consuming a huge number of CPU cycles -- 25%? -- interfering with other work and putting the machine dangerously near overheating.
    Uninstalled it, problem solved.
If and when Verizon fixes this, they can contact us and beg us to look at it again. Until then...

  • In-home Agent doesn't install correctly

Tried this several times and no luck. Get an error that something in the installation process did not finish correctly. This is a Windows 8 computer.

The general advise here is to use the online troubleshooter: https://www22.verizon.com/foryourhome/vzrepair/vziha/requestrepair.aspx?CMP=DMC-CVZ_ZZ_ZZ_Z_ZZ_N_X22...
Many others have reported issues with the software and trying to get it to install under Win 8 for example: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Connectivity-issues-Windows-8-amp-In-Home-Agent/td-p/5618...
If you are having issues (such as connectivity) other than the software install I would recommend starting another thread, The experts here are very hard to stump (not that  I am one)

  • In-Home Agent and Windows 7, 64 bit

I tried this earlier in response to a message and  got no response. I will try again. The In-Home Agent may be supposed to work with Windows 7, but it falls quite short on my Windows 7-64. The TV section is fogged out and has no information. It will not retrieve SSID or WEP keys, but only comes up with a blank screen (i.e. nothing happens). It finds no Verizon e-mail on my computer. There is a possible javascript problem:In closing the Agent, "an error has occurred in the script on this pageLine: 1Char: 1Error: Invalid Character URL: file://C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Verizon/FiOS/ihs/hnm/js/contentslider.js
Besides the javascript error, another problem might be that my e-mail address is [email protected], which then relays it to [email protected] I am not about to change that. Can the agent be made to work properly?

Could you guys at least make it FAIL on Windows 7 64-bits?  Every time I need something I get prompted and re-directed to use InHome agent.  I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and the inhome agent takes liek 4-5 minutes to come up, the feedback button takes like 3 minutes to "load a form" and then gives you a blank page, nothing works. I hate it that something that should take 30 seconds to do causes me to spend 1/2 an hour fighting your software. The same goes for your website, unfortunately. I like Fios, but when I recommend it I tell people "Verizon has just about the WORST support software in the industry". Don't expect a lot from their web site, their voice mail on a PC, their order management system, etc., etc., etc".  Very aggravated. Dave I have to agree with Dave.  I also have W7 Ultimate x64 and I removed the V* sw because it was bloatware.  Also, it's ridiculous that sometimes it takes forever for the V* website to load when I don't have a bandwidth issue (I've run speedtest while waiting for the V* site to load). As far as IHA, the messages weren't very helpful.  When will V* start to care about the user experience, especially from a support perspective?  I also tell everyone that FIOS is great, as long as it works.  If you need help, fugitabotit! Ordering things on the web should be easy, like DirecTV, not a CF like the V* site.  If I could get the HD D* signal, I'd go back, just because the user experience is so much better than V*...

  • In-Home Agent Fails - Supervisor Help Please!!!

    I recently installed fios.
I have never been able to get the In-Home Agent to work properly.
The graphics overlap each other in places and some of the text runs off the right edge, making parts unreadable.
If that weren't bad enough, 99% of the time the imbedded links do not function at all. ( I finally did get the "Chat" link to work once, but that was an exercise in futility.)
I see this on 2 different computers.
I have just downloaded the latest & greatest version to my Win7 computer and there is no difference.
The Chat & email support is completely useless. They know less than I do. (I let one "tech" take remote control of one of my computers and his impatience with with a slow application resulted in him trying to open the program about 15 times; causing the computer to drag to a halt. I had to do a hard reboot to recover from his ineptness.)
I was able to set up my hotspot account only because someone here in the forum showed me how to find my way through the mind-boggling labyrinth that Verizon calls a web site to the setup form and application.
Why can't I get proper support for this problem?
Does anyone at Verizon really care?
    It seems not.
    Solved!

Count yourselves lucky, That program is more trouble than help. It took me about 90 seconds to realize this and to remove it from my system. If you have any real questions about anything more complex than hitting the enter key, you are not going to find any answers from the In Home Agent. Its all basic stuff and will not help with any real issues.
You will probably find better, more easy to understand and more usable answers on Google than you can in any verizon software i have seen to date.
