In ical Preferences...

...Preferences --> Accounts --> Server Settings...what should my "server path" be?

Hi,
That would depend on what server you are connecting to and what version of iCal you are using.
Best wishes

I know this email is confusing and really hard to understand...perhaps now you will know how i've been feeling--lost and confused with all the mis-information, with a hit and miss phone, and out of time with all the 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs EACH wasted on this issue.
On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.
I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?

  • Can't open ical preferences

    Hello!
I recently had the harddrive problems where I got the gray screen of death.  Went in to the Apple store, got it fixed.  Now, my ical is empty.  I tried to go to iCal preferences to set up all my google calendars but the iCal preferences will not open or appear.  Any suggestions?

    Greetings Nikki,
Make sure your system is fully up to date with all software updates (Apple > Software Update).
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in iCal.
    If that does not help:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Can't delete iCal Preferences

I have the strangest thing happening. I'm trying to delete all of iCal preferences for iCal. Which I thought I did however when I relaunch iCal all the information returns. Am I missing something?
    1. Closed iCal
    2. Deleted:
    ~/Library/Application\ Support/iCal/
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal/
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    3. Open iCal
    Any help would be appreciated.

Just 'cos you're not using it doesn't mean that it isn't there.
    Did you try my suggestion?
Sync services maintains data on several applications in folders in ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata. You can see which by opening the clientname.txt file in the various folders. There is also information stored in ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/data.syncdb. Deleting this file, the folder for iCal in clientdata, the calendar files in ~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources and the several iCal plist files in ~/Library/Preferences should get rid of all calendar information.

  • ICal preferences do not save.

Every time I change my iCal preferences, they do not save.  When I turn off iCal and turn it back on, the settings reset.  How can I fix this?

Check if the preference file for iCal is writable:
Open your User Library and select the file
    your home folde -> Library  -> Preferences -> com.apple.iCal.plist
    and press  Command(⌘)-I
Look at the "Sharing and Permissions" Brick in the Get Info panel. If you do not have write permissions, add them.
By default your user Library is hidden. To open it in the Finder, activate the Finder and select File -> Go from the Finder menu, hold down the (Option key) , until the Library appears in the drop down menu, select it.
If repairing the permissios did not help, quit iCal, and thash the preferences file, and try again.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • How do I set iCal preferences?

Since my Lion update, my calendar appointment defaults to all-day or 8 hours.
I want it to default to 1 hour for each appointment I schedule.

    PeggyO,
Here are some Lion iCal event entry tips:
    1. Click Add at the top of the iCal window or press Command (⌘)-N.
Events are added automatically to your default calendar.
If you want to choose a different calendar for the event, hold down the Add button (+), and then choose a calendar.
To change your default calendar, choose iCal > Preferences, click General, and then select a calendar from the Default Calendar pop-up menu.
    2. Enter a name, date, and time duration for the event, and then press Return.
For example, you can enter “Super Bowl Party Feb 6,” “Movie with Rebecca on Friday at 7pm,” “Soccer Game on Saturday from 11am-1pm,” or “Breakfast with Jon,” and then press Return.
If you don’t enter a time duration for the event, iCal sets the event’s duration to 1 hour.
If you don’t enter any time information for the event, iCal makes the event an all-day event.
If you enter “breakfast” or “morning,” iCal sets the event to start at 9 a.m.
If you enter “lunch “ or “noon,” iCal sets the event to start at 12 p.m.
If you enter “dinner” or “night,” iCal sets the event to start at 8 p.m.

  • Why can't I open iCal preferences?

I have followed the advice on here which says to delete the ical.plist file in the preferences folder but there is no such file there. I have done a search for the file also and come up empty. It was working fine until I tried to sync ical with google calendars and somewhere in that process it stopped working. I have reinstalled the application but I still can't do anything with ical. The application opens but I can't enter an event or open preferences and probably anything else either. I am using Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are can be reasons PDFs cannot be opened. For example, some forms created with Lifecycle Designer cannot be opened.
Are you sure the file is a PDF? Can you open it in Adobe Reader or Acrobat on a Mac or PC? Does it give an error message when you try to open it?

  • ICal Preferences not showing

In web based iCal in iCloud, I select preferences under the settings "gear" icon, nothing happens, ie. no preference pane shows.
    Anyone else experiencing this?
    Bill

Update: In my case it was Ghostery that caused the preference pane to not show up. Disabling the Ghostery blocking solved the problem.
Ghostery is a neat program that blocks all junk javascripts from executing. Makes surfing a real pleasure and speeds it up no end. Not affiliated with Ghostery in any way, just a satisfied user of it.

  • ICal preferences not opening

I am no longer able to open the preferences within iCal.  Program is functioning properly otherwise.  Have tried the program on another mac with no issues.
Any suggestions as to how to fix.
    Thanks

I would try to remove the .plist file for ical. Close iCal>from you home folder goto Library>Preferences>and delete com.apple.iCal.plist and see what that does for you.

  • ICal preferences on my Mac not available on MobileMe?

I have iCal on my Mac set up to automatically generate an alarm and a message 24 hours before new events and to-dos.
When I add new items to iCal on MobileMe, those default settings aren't available. When iCal syncs, the items I added on MobileMe don't have the default alarms set.
    What can I do?

Hmmmm, no takers on my question yet?

  • ICal preferences, default calendar, last selected calendar: proposed improvements to behaviour and user interface (10.7, Build 11A511)

For consistency with previous released versions of iCal: I think the default should be last selected calendar.
iCal 5.0 (1535) in Mac OS X 10.7 (Build 11A511) seems to avoid that default, iCal seems to make a guess — often a wrong guess — and so begins the confusion.
The option that people seek is too easily overlooked, because it's at the foot of a sometimes long menu. For a considerable number of users, probably hidden when the menu first appears.
If concerned, please state whether you agree with these three points:
the menu item last selected calendar should be first, at the head, at the top of the menu
for a new user of Lion, the default calendar should be last selected calendar
for an existing user upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, the default calendar should be last selected calendar.
    Thank you

    Rationale
The foot of a long list, sometimes hidden, is not the sanest position for a menu option that overrides all other menu options.
    For an option that overriding:
better to present it over and above — at the head, at the top.

  • ICal uses up my screen showing grayed-out hours of the night when I do not have appointments - support instructions about Preferences do not work.

iCal has preferences that let you decide how many hours per day you want to see, and which hours of the day you want to make appointments. For example, I need to see 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and I don't need to make appointments for the night. If I specify in my prefs that my "day starts at 7 am" and "day ends at 8 pm," when I look at my screen it still shows me all 24 hours---with nighttime grayed out.
This also happens if I change the number of hours I ask to be shown, in preferences again. For example, if I specify that I want to make appointments for 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., that totals ten hours. Whether I click "Show 24 hours" or "Show 10 hours," I still have those grayed-out, useless nighttime hours taking up my screen and forcing me to scroll when I don't want to scroll. I don't want my day to start at 1 a.m. When I click onto a day, I want to see 7 a.m. at the top of the screen.
I'm on Snow Leopard, iMac intel duo, running iCal 4.0.4 .
Here are the official support directions/instructions for this.
"To change the time range that appears in the main calendar view, choose iCal > Preferences and click General. To change the range of time when you’re normally available each day, choose your daytime hours from the “Day starts at” and “Day ends at” pop-up menus. All times outside that range are shaded in the day or week calendar view.To set the number of hours that are displayed when you view your calendar in Day or Week view, choose a number from the Show pop-up menu."
It mentions these unavailable hours will be "shaded," but my issue isn't whether or not they are shaded (I don't much care) but the fact that I don't want to see them on my screen and be forced to scroll a lot.
I took screen grabs of these calendars and corresponding Preferences settings, but apparently I'm supposed to go into Photoshop and resize them, etc etc, in order to upload them to this forum. Not going to do it. I hope my description above is clear enough.

Have you tried resetting the SMC ?     >  Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • ICal won't sync to mobile me, iPhone, or iPad.  On my iMac I went to preferences, mobile me, set it to sync, and even did a sync-now.  It syncd everything else, contacts etc, but not iCal.  Went to calendar preferences and it won't let me sync at the bott

Contacts etc sync fine.  Went to calendar preferences and it won't let me sync cuz it says:  Your mobileme suscr info is not correct or you did not turn on sync in mobile me prefs  - well, my mobile me subscription must be ok, I'm in and out of it easily enough, checked the acct fields, and my other stuff is working fine.  I did go to mobile me prefs and it is all set to sync, calendar is checked, it says the last sync was 15 min ago.  Ak!  What is up?  I did just upgrade the mobile me calendar.  Is that my problem?

Can take some time.... how much time?
There's no simple answer to that. My calendar goes back to 2004 and is moderately busy; it took around an hour. It's possible that you've hit a slow period on the server - it happens.
In order for it to work, your calendars should show on the MobileMe site, they should be listed under your MobileMe login name in the calendar list in iCal (calendars listed under 'On My Mac' will not sync) and your MM account details have to be entered in iCal Preferences>Accounts (this should have happened by itself).
If it's not working please see the page I linked to.

  • Entering description of event into iCal, pasted too much text into event, responded with The server responded with an error. Preferences is greyed out, and window pop up comes up every time I open iCal and doesn't go away. Force quit, still opens. Help?

While pasting event description into iCal, accidently pasted too much text, causing "The server responded with an error" pop up. This pop us includes the event description, but because of the mass amount of text, the window shoots off the screen to the bottom, so if there was an exit red "x" available, it isn't visible or accessible. The iCal>preferences is greyed out and I have force quit and it pops up each time I use iCal. Is this even fixable?

  • Can I show a color bar instead of a color bullet in iCal Monthly view for all my events in all calendars?

In the Monthly view of iCal the only events that show a color bar in the event is the Birthday Calendar. All other events in all my other calendars only show a color bullet next to the event (unless I click on that event which then shows as a color bar). I would like to know if it is possible for all the calendar events to have a color bar in the monthly view instead of just that tiny color bullet.

    Greetings Judith,
Before making any attempts at deleting calendar data, backup what you have just in case:
Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
iCal has an automated function located in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed.  By typing in a value for days you can tell iCal to delete all events before that time frame.
    Example:
    Today is 4-16-2012.
If I wanted to delete all events prior to 1 year ago (4-16-2011) I would type in "365" for the number of days.
Once you type in the number of days you want kept in iCal, close the preferences and then quit iCal.
Re-open iCal and check to see if the events are gone.  If not you may want to leave it open for several minutes and then quit again.
Once the events are removed go back to  iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed and make sure the check mark is removed to prevent future deletion.
    Hope that helps.
