After activating photo stream on a device, any photos taken later are push to icloud's stream, then any other devices that have photo stream turned on should receive them.
Note that for a photo in photo stream to be synced to icloud, the device must be connected to wifi and the photo app on the device must be turned off. (This means shut down, not just closed.)

They may very well be gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

You can uncheck multiple songs by selecting all the songs you want to uncheck, then right-click and choose "uncheck selection". Also, make sure that you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings or the sync process will ignore your selections.
You can remove all the photos from your camera roll using Preview on your Mac. Connect your phone to your Mac, open Preview, go to File>Import from iPhone. When your photos appear in Preview, select the photos you want to delete, then click on the icon at the bottom showing the red circle with the diagonal line through it (see image below), then click Delete.
To remove photos from the Photo Stream album on your phone you'll have to either reset Photo Stream (deleting all the photos from iCloud) or turn off Photo Stream on your phone.

1. There is no Finder on an iPhone. If you mean on your Mac, then you need to use iPhoto or Image Capture to export the photos from the iPhone to the computer. Once on the computer you can do whatever you want with them.
2. You can use iPhoto or Image Capture, or other image editing App on your Mac get the pictures.

Geotagging in photostream works in ipad but not in iphone (which was used to take the photos!)

So I took some photos two days ago with my IPhone 4 (iOS 7.0.3) and they were uploaded automatically to my photostream. Today, I took several photos again with my IPhone 4 and they were uploaded to photostream normally. The problem is that the geotagging for these photos works only on my Ipad 4 and not on my IPhone which was used to take the photos in the first place! All photos are synced 100% between my two devices but the geotagging of photos stops on my IPhone two days ago and the pictures I took with it are geotagged properly only on my Ipad through photostream. Any ideas how to fix this?

If that happened to me, I would check Settings > Privacy > Location Services on my iPhone. I'm not sure which particular item would affect the outcome there, but certainly I would check that both "Location Services" and "Camera" were "On".

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. What version of iPhoto and system are you running?
Try moving the Zoom slider at the bottom of the iPhoto window all the way to the left. Does that let more than one photo display in the window?

Additionally, I'd like to be able to take the 2000+ photos out of iPhoto and put them on a disk in a folder. I have managed to export them to the hard disk but it's just plonked all 2000+ photos in a list - not ideal if I want to use it for anything else. And then I have to manually delete the photos from iPhoto. Is there not a quick and easy way of dealing with this?

I too would like to be able to do this. Just put them where i want the. IFTT a scripting app will put the images in dropbox for you , but its been pretty iffy.

To add to Niel's comment bear in mind that if you have a backup copy on an external HD and later delete the orignals on your Mac HD you will then only have one copy - so no backup.
If the pictures are precious you should have at least two copies, and ideally another copy kept off site,
