In IDCS3 how do you print part of a page?

I use IDCS3 to create large graphics, 48"x96" and larger. I always need to print a section of a graphic to proof in color on an 8.5 x 11 color printer. This is easy, oddly enough, in the sister application Illustrator. You get a thumbnail image in the print dialog and you can pan the page area around to print exactly what you want. For no good reason, this feature seems to have been left out of IDCS3. I can't imagine that Adobe felt it was essential for AI, but not for ID so I assume that there must be a way to do it that I'm missing. Please don't ask me to tile it. First, there is no way to tell which tile is correct and second, I don't want to print the entire document on 100-plus pages. I just want to print one. I'm assuming it works like AI somehow, I just can't find it. Anyone know how to do this very fundamental thing? I know it is going to be simple, but I'm willing to risk embarressment to save paper.
Thanks,

Peter, using manual tiling would work except that the print dialog box in ID does not show a thumbnail of the image (like AI) and I don't think it allows you to move the tiles around the little white rectangle that it does give you (again, unlike AI.) I haven't used tiling before, do you mean that the tile manipulation occurs on the actual layout? If not, then I have to count rows and columns of tiles and then try that again on the print dialog page where the page icon is the size of a postage stamp. Remember, I'll have around 100 tiles to pick from! It sounds like it wiill work, however, and I appreciate all the help. Still, it is maddening that this sort of thing comes up again and again where one part of the "suite" has a feature that is nonexistant another.

  • How do you print comments on one page

I can't figure out how to get comments to print continuosly rather than one comment per page. I have a 30 page PDF with comments on each page. I don't want to print out 30 pages. I just want them to print on x pages as if it were a word doc. Most comments are short. Printing one minor edit per page is driving me nuts.

  • How do you print multiple photos per page in LANDSCAPE using iPhoto ?

I am very experienced using iPhoto and like it but it has a very limited print program that I find frustrating.
The simple task of turning the paper to landscape mode does not appear to be one of the options when you wish to print more than one photo per page.
Even with a single photo selected there is no "landscape" mode, but rather you have to define the print dimensionally to be 11" wide x 8" tall.
Even that option however, goes away when you select the "custom picture arrangement" to get more than one picture per page.
Has anyone figured this out - I love apples products but this omission is a pain - HELP

First send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/.
A workaround, if you have the iWork suite of apps, is to create a landscape canvas in Pages or any image editor that supports layers, drag the two photos onto it, resize as needed and print.

  • How do you print a newsletter in "pages" on 11 x 17 paper double sided?

I am trying to print a newsletter that I entered into "pages". I need it to print pages 1,3,5,7 on one 11 x 17 paper and then print pages 2,4,6,8.

Some printers have a print odd or even numbered pages setting. See if yours does. Do a ⌘ + P and select 'paper handling from the pull down menu to see if your printer has this feature.

OK, but still, they built the poorly made HP drivers in their OS.
Ah, no. They published the only drivers HP gave them. If they didn't publish them, then Mac users would be unable to use HP devices at all, except for those devices supported by 3rd parties such as Gutenprint and the HPIJS Project. HP is solely responsible for the state of their drivers. And it's not just Mac drivers which are bad; a lot of Windows drivers stink, too. HP simply has a problem writing drivers. For the most part they have excellent hardware, but truly terrible software.

how do you print your purchase history from itunes???  why is the "print" function grayed out????  so frustrating

There is no way to print the Purchase History as a list. You'll have to do a screen capture instead and print that. If you have purchases that span across multiple panes in the Purchase History, you'll have to do a screen capture of each. Of you can print the receipts that should have been emailed to you.

  • How do you print comments in pages under mavericks?

How do you print comments in pages under mavericks? Earlier if show comments was checked, all the comments were visible and could be easily printed. Now only those comments are visible on which the cursor is pointed but even those do not get printed!

Thanks to all for to the 'older Pages' suggestion. I don't have the last Pages on my mac anymore (although this is probably just me being really, really dumb), but the suggestion inspired me to try another very similar work around - which was also successful. Just in case anyone's in the same situation as me, am sharing it here!
For absurd reasons I won't bother to explain, I've also got a version of Word for Mac. I prefer writing on Pages, though, so all my documents (and their comments...) are Pages files. In the really unlikely event that you've also ended up with both Pages and Word (I know...) just export to a .docx file, open it with Word, and print from there. It retains all comments, track chages, etc. This seems really obvious, but I hadn't thought of it...
This can also be a work around for the lack of 'Compare Documents' and/or 'Merge Documents'.
Of course this would all be much better if it were actually just in Pages...I hope this helps, and thanks!

  • How Do You Print What OS X Renders and What You See Like the Lines on a Table on OpenOffice?

Hi. How do you print what you OS X's graphics is rendering (what you see is what you get). I'm trying to print a calling card on OpenOffice Apache, latest but it would not print the guidelines (the lines when you use table, columns and rows) and it would only print the letters.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

If the lines are printing but they are too faint to see them easily, then there could be a rendering setting that could improve the line density.
But if the lines are not at all visible then maybe the application is set not to print them. So check the Preferences or the printing options for OpenOffice? There might be a setting about the printing of gridlines.
FYI - MS Excel has the gridlines disabled for printing but they can be enabled via the Excel print dialog.

Hi there, if there is text in the body of the email it will print automatically when sent to an ePrint email address. The only way to just have the attachment print is for there to be no text in the email body.
Hope that helps answer your question.
