In iMovie, audio doesn't play on movie preview

Hello,
I got iMovie 10.0.6 yesterday. It worked fine for a few minutes, but afterwards, I couldn't hear the audio in my movie. However, if I went into the event the movie it was in, I could hear the audio on preview. I tried exporting, and the audio was working perfectly there too, but not in the movie preview itself.

What version of OS and Keynote?
Audio doesn't play on a single slide when exported into Qtime

OK, my frame rate is fine in the timeline display and the video plays correctly BUT the audio plays like I set it to play at 50% and this is all at the same time. when i move the scrubber bar to the middle the audio won't play and it says dropped frames but everything is rendered!!! Please help. This happens to all of my projects even previous ones that haven't been opened in forever. I have a huge project due and I need this fixed. Please help!

While it may seem like we are clairvoyant (if you read through all the truly amazing problem solving threads), we really can not see your computer or read your mind.
As much as I love 20 questions, you can short cut things by telling us all about your computer system, the media you are working with, your version of FCP, QT, OSX and what you have done to solve this little problem.

Video doesn't play with .MOV files, only hear sound

I have Elements 9 and I just imported my photos and videos from my new camera - Panasonic Lumix DMC FH27 10 Zoom 16 megapix and when I played them in Elements 9 all I could hear is the sound, all conversation, but the video won't play, just a black screen. The file they trasfered with is MOV . I have Quickplayer installed on my computer already, the lastest version, I just updated. Any suggestions? Thank you so much.

IMovie audio just stops playing in the middle of creating a project.

I have several photo slideshows to which I'm adding music. Several times during the creation of a project my audio selections stop playing back with the slideshow. I am shortening and/or lengthen the music selections through the Clip Trimmer. It seems, however, if I do this many times trying to get just the right selection of the music, all audio stops playing back. It's almost as if I overload the program with too many changes before finalizing the project. Eventually, the project seems to reload and the music is back but then photos and music don't sync. Also, the music will only play in full screen mode and not in the project window. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

Try creatint a new project in iDVD and drag the QT movie into the menu being careful to avoid any drop zones. Then follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Embedded audio doesn't play from server.

It plays fine in Preview but does not play from the server. I am using Dreamweaver CC and have used the suggested three sources, mp3, wav, and ogg. I am very new at HTML and Dreamweaver CC so was looking for the most basic way to approach this. I don't want to be too much of a burden so if I could learn to have my song play in one OS (iOS) and one browser (Safari) that would be good enough for me. Thanks very much.

Also, don't use spaces or special characters in file or folder names. White space in your file names causes validation errors in HTML5 doc types. You may safely use dots . hyphens - or underscores _ but not spaces.

SAFARI doesn't play QT movies after update

We did the 7 to 7.1.2 something update and now safari won't play the movies -- we just get a question mark! It kind of works in other browsers, just not safari. Anyone know how to fix it?

I am reading with interest the post about quick time.
I have been having terrible crash trouble due to shock wave plug in..
i posted to another forum about this...
however.. in my frustration, i moved a QT plug in, there were two in the drop down menu in safari, i did a search and found the plug and deleted it... and and now get an error message when i click on a web page..
The page.... "Apple-Quick time attempted to load an Internet plug in named Quick time plugin 7.1.1, but the plug-in failed to load successfully".
I tried to put it back from the trash, howver,, I think i put in in the wrong place. Does any one know the file sequence that the plug in should go into?
Also, I checked the unistaller for QT.

The QuickTime 6.5.2 reinstaller will remove QuickTime 7.0.1 from a Mac OS X 10.3.9 system and restore QuickTime 6.5.2.
Note: This reinstaller will only run on Mac OS X 10.3.9.
My QT version is 7.1.1.. meaning that I cannot do this uninstall and reinstall?

IMovie HD doesn't play animated .gif's

Can you listen to audio only while playing a movie?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way to turn off the screen and listen to the audio only when a movie is playing?
I have some teaching videos as movies and I thought it would be really nice if I could listen to the audio only and save battery power.

I don't know of any way to turn off the video directly so the way I do that is to run the video through a program like Kigo Video Converter to strip out the audio only, then load that on the iPod.

Audio doesn't play in DVD player

Hello,
First post here, so be gentle.
When I burn a DVD, there is no sound when I play it on my dvd player. It plays fine when played on my Mac.
Here is what is going on:
1. capture HD video in imovie 06.
2. add chapters, no external audio or photos
3. export to idvd
4. check video in idvd, all looks good, includes audio
5. burn dvd
6. when burn is complete, play in DVD player
results:
No sound when playing video.
I am not sure where to go next, I will try another DVD player this evening. When creating a DVD with the exact same setup but not HD content, everything worked fine.
Any Ideas?

If it plays OK in your Mac, iDVD 'has done its thing'.
Not all set top like writable media - this might be your problem.
More likely, your problem involves a high level of burn errors resulting from low quality media and/or a high burn speed. Instead of going directly from iDVD to writable media, create a disk image file (an option under FILE). Use Apple's DVD Player to verify the mounted (by double-clicking on the disk image icon), then use Apple's Disk Utility or Roxio's Toast to burn the disk image to writable media. Use good quality media (Maxell or Verbatim) and burn at a low speed (4x or slower).

Audio doesn't play in quick time

Quicktime won't play the audio of mpg movies. If I open them in VLC, they play fine, but I want QT to work. I've just upgraded to v.7.1.2 on a MacBook Pro.

Some MPEG files are encoded using audio codec that are not yet available for the newer Intel Mac's.
Open the Movie Info window (open first in the QuickTime Player) and report what you see (text) in that window.

Embedded audio doesn't play on iPad or iPhone

I have embedded HTML code in my homepage for audio to play:
<embed src="playit.mp3" autostart="true" loop="false" hidden="true"></embed>
which plays OK on desktops and laptops, but does not play on iPads or iPhones.
Does anyone else experience this with their embedded audio code?
Is this phenomenon a quirk of iPad/iPhone that requires some special coding?

If you're hosting with Business Catalyst, please re-try publishing All Files through Upload options (and not just the modified files), clear mobile browser cache and check again. If that doesn't help, please share the site URL.

Quicktime 7 doesn't play extracted .mov files

Hi,
I am on an iMac OS X 10.5.8, and using quicktime 7.
I downloaded a tutorial torrent using Utorrent, it gave me 32 .rar files that I extracted with UnRarX, then it gave me a folder with 32 .mov files which opens by default with quicktime. I can press play, it shows the lenght of the video but there is no picture and no sound, I tried to open it with DivX player, now I have sound but still no picture. Anyone ?!

The Sorenson Video 3 (SV3) codec is somewhat old and belongs to the "legacy" group. You may want to check to see if the "Legacy Encoders" option is set in the "Registration > Advanced" preference window. (Not sure if this option is required for playback or only for encoding purposes. Also not sure if the legacy version built into QT is compatible with SV3 Pro Codec used by Sorenson Squeeze.) In any case, my guess would be that the audio (not mentioned by you) may be MP3 which is commonly used with both DivX and FLV files. In any event, not being a Sorenson codec user, that is about all I can say at this point without seeing/testing a sample snippet.

New Mac user needs help: some audio doesn't play...

I did not have the Audio Midi Setup utility that the article required, but I downloaded Pacifist and installed the utility. When I opened it, I was disappointed to find that under 'Audio Output,' it simply said 'Output is not supported.' Any suggestions on how to get my online audio to play or how to get the output to be supported? Thanks a lot from a recent convert to Mac OS X!

The safer way to run is set up a user account without administrator privileges for normal use, and reserve the administrator account for software installation and system maintenance. Running from the user account will then prevent you from accidentally moving or deleting system files.
If there are files missing from your system, and you are sure you didn't do it accidentally, you have serious problems. Either the system wasn't installed properly at the factory or the disk is going bad. If the Mac is used, the previous owned may have messed with the system. In either case I would recommend backing up all your files to a CD or DVD, then using the OSX install disk, initialize the drive with the zeroing option, and reinstall OSX. Then create a non-administrator account for normal use. It is a bit of work, but then you will know where you are staring from. If system files again vanish when you are not using an administrator account, you know the disk is bad, and can get Apple to replace it.
Another thing you should do is run the Extended Hardware test. It should be on a disk that came with the computer. Read the fine print on the disks. You start it by holding down D (Diagnostics) when booting.
Audio not working with some applications does happen but system files should never go missing.

Audio doesn't play

I'm having a problem where clips in the preview window will not play audio, particularly for long clips. Often if I start at the beginning of a clip, I can hear the audio all the way through. When I mark and in and the sounds stops, I can't hear audio from the in point and I have to back up several minutes into the clip to get my audio back. Makes Final Cut basically unusable.

The problem seems to come from having audio (imported from a field recorder that rolled before the camera) at the beginning of a synchronized clip that starts before the video. It seems that the audio preview will only work for as long as the length of the actual video (starting from the beginning of the synchronized clip rather than the first frame of video). Since the video (which came from a Canon 5D mk ii, transcoded and proxied) starts later than the audio, scrubbing ceases to function past it's length, even if there is more video and audio. So if the audio recorder rolled for 30 seconds before the camera, the synchronized clip has 30 seconds of sound without video at the beginning and the clip will scrub fine until it hits 30 seconds before the end of the actual video. On the show I'm working on, the audio rolled non-stop during the interviews while the camera had to restart every 12 minutes due to the nature of the camera. I'm testing to se if trimming the audio prior to synchronizing the sound makes a difference. It would be handy if there was a way to trim out the unused audio at the beginning of the synchronized clip after it's already been synchronized, but I haven't figured out a way to do it.

Audio doesn't play right in transitions

So I have 2 clips that i'm trying to put an overlap in between.It inserts fine, but when i play it the audio in the transition is the audio from a clip that's at the beginning of the video. Every transition is like this and I have no clue what to do, suggestions?

Yes, it's reading the audio from a "cache" ..a bit of memory where it's stored what it played previously. Same as when you preview a transition: it uses its memory cache to give an idea of what the transition will look like between clips. One or more of the clips which it uses in the 'preview' may be different from the clips which you're intending to apply the transition to.
Tides are caused by the proximity of the moon and sun to the earth. It's a glitch. The Supreme Being inadvertently forgot to keep the moon and sun at right angles to each other ..a programming error.
Don't worry; it'll be corrected in the next version of the Universe. (Except that water may be accidentally reformulated as H2O2.)
