In iOS 7, cannot shuffle all songs in a genre?

In iOS 7, cannot shuffle all songs in a genre.  How can I do this as I have previously done in ealier versions of iOS?

The solution is rather simple; just tell Siri to shuffle the desired genre.

  • I've purchased several comedy albums on itunes and they're sent to my music file, which I don't like since I like to shuffle all songs. I put the albums in audiobooks but each track is listed seprately instead of by album. Is there a way to fix that?

I've purchased several comedy albums on itunes (or uploaded from my cd collection) and itunes stores them in the music file. I prefer not to have them stored there since I often put my ipod on shuffle all songs and I hate having comedy bits pop up. So I went into "get info" of each track and changed it from music to audiobooks. That transfered everything into audiobooks but when I synched my ipod, I realized that the comedy tracks are all listed individually instead of under their albums. This doesn't work obviously since I want to listen to the album as a whole. I was wondering if there's a way to store my comedy albums in my audiobooks but have them stay in album format. Can anyone help me on this?

Try posting in a more appropriate forum, as this has noting to do with itunes U - the place where University/college/museums post education material.

  • Does iOS 7 not have "All Songs" anymore?

    Hey iOS 7 users.
I have an iPod Touch 4th generation, which means I can't get iOS 7. I'm thinking about getting the 5th generation and adding iOS 7. Can you please see if iOS 7 has "All songs" in the genre tap? Meaning you can play all the songs by one specfic genre. If you still don't get what I'm talking about, please watch the video.

No, it does not. I have the fifth generation and iOS 7.0.3. Sorry.

  • 60 Gig Photo, will only shuffle all songs, want to shuffle by genre

I have a 60 Gig Photo, and I can sort by genre, and I can set it to repeat by genre, but if I push shuffle it immediatley starts shuffling all songs, not just the genre I selected. Also, if I do this in reverse order, it does not work either.
    Any hints?
    Thanks,
    Sam

I'm not quite clear on this. You want to shuffle all the songs within a particular genre, right?
If so, go to settings/shuffle and set it to songs. Then select your preferred genre and press play. All the songs within that genre will be played back in shuffle mode.

  • "Podcasts"  vs.  "All songs"/"Shuffle all songs"

When I just shuffle all songs on my ipod the podcasts are also included; Because most of my podcasts are long talks (e.g. BBC news)it's very annoying when you only want to listen to music and you don't have any hands free(when i'm sporting, on the bike etc.etc.)
I remember this was due to an update of Apple; before this update, the podcasts were presented seperately from the "all song"-list.
My question is: is there a possibility in iTunes to have a choice, if you want to include/exclude your podcasts within your "all songs"-list?
    I thank you in advance,
    mm

I don't know if this works, but there is a checkmark for "Skip when shuffling" on each individual podcast's Options page. Just select a podcast, control+click and choose "Get Info", select the "Options" tab and see if "Skip when shuffling" is checked.

  • Shuffling all songs on new Touch?

Is there a way to shuffle all songs currently on my iPod Touch? I see ways to shuffle individual playlists but not everything.

Sure. Just hit "music" then at the bottom of the next screen is "songs" (with a little musical note. Then at the top of the next screen is "Shuffle."
    That should do it.

  • Shake to shuffle shuffles all songs instead of the playlist I am in.  Why?

I just purchased my Nano 4th gen, and Shake to Shuffle is pretty cool. But it shuffles all the songs. This is probably by design, perhaps, but it makes more sense to me (being a layman) that I would want to stay in my playlist.
Was there a reason for this? Perhaps I am unreasonable...
Might this change in a later firmware upgrade? At least give us the option to have it shuffle just our playlist, or all songs.
    Anyone else have this issue?

    Hi CaroleH,
If you are having issues accessing or uploading photos either in apps or Safari, you may want to make sure you have installed the most recent iOS update that was just released:
    iOS 8.0.2

  • Cannot Sync All Songs (Unknown Error (-50))

For some reason, when I try to sync my iPod Touch (1st gen) I get a message that it cannot sync a song. However, no other song below it in alphabetical order will sync either. It claims there's an unknown error, -50. What could this be caused by?
    Screenshot: http://cl.ly/J5v/content

Usually a -50 error is caused by a problem with iTunes permissions and the store.

  • How can I play all songs from a genre  in the new iOS 7

I used to select a genre in my music and played all songs randomly, now when I open a genre I can only play an album, not all the songs from a genre

Actually, JinKL, doing a search from "Songs" is harder to do and does not give the exact same result. It's harder to do because I have to key an artist's name rather than pick one from a list. The results aren't the same for several reasons. If you key an artist name that matches a song, you get that song, too. OK, that doesn't happen THAT much, but it does happen. And if I key a partial name, say "Morrison" for "Van Morrison", I get all the songs on "Morrison Hotel" by the Doors.
"All Songs" should be added to the iPad music player. While they're at it, they should add column titles and allow allow sorting on the column values.

  • Cannot delete all songs on Iphone

I met a problem that when I sync my Iphone such that there are 0 songs synced, there are still some songs remaining.
They are all songs I have bought on Itunes, rather through DVDs.
Many have size values of "stream", and I wanted to delete all of them.
Some are not grayed out, but will display a mark when I attempt to play them.
Is there any way to permanently delete these songs, (i still have copies in my computer).

If they are "stream" then they are not songs on your device, many are (as the name says) URLs to streams that require an Internet connect to listen to or download them. If you don't want to see them, on the iPhone go to Settings/Music and turn off Show all music.
The ones that don't play are a different issue; they may have been partially downloaded and stuck. Try deleting them and re-adding them.

  • All songs of one genre have half filled stars - but they have NO album tag at all

    This picture says it all:
    http://youscreen.de/mordax/half_filled_stars-no_album.jpg
All my songs of the genre "Techno Radio" which all have the Interpret "Radio Mitschnitt" have half filled stars if they did not receive a rating yet.
They do NOT have an album tag at all....
I checked the tags with the program "mp3 tag" which shows all kinds of tags you can imagine and are not shown by music players: according to "mp3 tag" the songs only have the visible mp3 tags which you can see in the image above.
The files are normal mp3 files, recorded with audacity+lame.
Here a picture with all of the tags - the program shows all kind of tags e.g. musicbrainz-id if they exist
    http://www.youscreen.de/mordax/itunes_tags.jpg

The hollow stars are autoratings generated because the tracks are related to tracks that have been rated. If you rate an album as 3 stars all unrated tracks get a 3 star autorated track rating. If you rate one track from an album as 2 stars, and another as 4, leave the rest undated, the album gets autorated to 3 stars (the average of all manually rated tracks.
iTunes generates these autoratings on the fly. To clear them use my scripts ClearAlbumAutoRating and/or ClearTrackAutoRating which sets manual values of 1%.

  • My iPod About says I have 1286 songs, but when I do "Shuffle All Songs"....

it shows 30 less. Like is says 1 of 1256. Why is this? If I have 1286, why doesn't it play all of them? And I don't have any songs checked under the 'skip when shufflin' thing. Help!

Are you sure none are checked to skip when shuffling. Easy way to check is select ALL your tracks, do a get info, then check the box to set Skip When Shuffling to NO and hit OK. This will apply turning that off to all tracks. Resync iPod and see if anything is different.

  • I have a new computer that downloaded all of my playlist. but i cannot play all songs. i get a error that say "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. would you like to locate it? but it does not help to resolve.

i installed itunes to my new computer and transfered all my playlist from the older computer. the software came with the new computer hp link up. the problem
comes in where i want to play a certain song on a playlist and this error pops up "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found.
would you like to locate it? which is of no help.
is there a solution to this problem?

The file path for these songs IS NOT correct per your iTunes Library file.
See: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=listmias  for an Applescript to locate these files for re-adding.

  • Cannot Sync All Songs In My iTunes Library to My iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2

I have over 10,000 songs in my iTunes library--about 7,000 are songs I ripped from CDs and about 3000 are songs purchased through the iTunes store.  I am able to sync all the songs to my iPod Classic without any problem.  However, only about 7,000 songs are synced to my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2--a mix of all the songs purchased and some of the songs ripped.  How can I get my complete library synced to the iPhone and iPad, both of which are 128 GB and have plenty of room for the songs.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
