In iOS 7, is deleting a message by sliding your finger to the right on the message and tapping delete no longer available?

Only recently I discovered a faster way to delete a message thread from the main Messages screen/listing in iOS 6.  Sliding my finger from left to right on the message 'thread' in the main screen (that lists all message threads) would bring up a 'Delete' at the righthand side.  Tapping on the delete button removed the thread.
It was sweet - swipe and delete. Gone.
There a lot of things I like in iOS 7, but now I have to tap 'Edit' at the top left of the screen (in the messages listing main screen 'header', if you will), which brings up the red circle with a white dash (or minus sign) to the left of each message 'thread' in the list.  Tapping on that red circle brings up the Delete button, which brings up the red Delete box at the righthand side of the item, which you can tap to delete it.  Last, you have to go back up to the header and tap the Done button.
In the scheme of life, this isn't a big deal, but I was so pleased to have discovered the quick deletion method in iOS 6 - only to have it apparently disappear in iOS 7 a few weeks later.
Am I mistaken?  Is the quick deletion lurking still and I just haven't found it?

Read on another thread here that you now swipe in the opposite direction. Try swiping right to left.
