In iTunes, I cannot drag and drop music into my Ipod.

Correction: I can drag and drop a music file, but then on the iPod, the music file shows up in gray, unplayable, and just doesn't end up transferring. I have dragged and dropped music files on two different computers, now it doesn't work on either one. Any ideas what might be wrong?

iTunes... eh.. no idea what version.  I've looked for about a half hour and I couldn't find it.  Rather frustrating for a busy person like me to be dikin' around in iTunes looking for something simple like a version number.
Also, the new layout is kind of nice, but in many ways wretched and tedious.  What I wouldn't give to just be able to drag and drop mp3s to my iPhone like my android friends can do.
    Grumble Grumble.

    Using iTunes 11.0.1.12
Click on the box in the upper left corner, "Show Menu Bar," or press Ctrl+B.

Shouldn't take a half hour to figure it out.

  • I recently installed iTunes 4.3 and can't drag and drop music into my 'music library' anymore?

I recently installed iTunes 4.3.5 and can't drag and drop music into my 'music library' anymore. Every time I try to drag the music from a folder into the library, that little circle with the line thru it comes up (not allowed symbol). I've been using iTunes for years and am pretty computer savvy... I have no idea what the problem is. The only way I can add music right now is if I go to File>Add File to Library and that takes way too long, especially when adding 20-30 songs. I am using Windows 7 and I have an iPhone 4. Please help! This is extremely frustrating.

No, sorry... you did not.  There is no iTunes 4.3.5.
What did you actually install?  iOS 4.3.5 on your iPhone?  If so, this has NO affect on the ability to manually manage media via iTunes.
Let's start over... tell us exactly what has been done.

  • I cant "drag and drop" music onto my ipod anymore can i get help please???

    Hi,
Since i have my ipod i have always dragged and dropped music from my itunes library onto my ipod but now every time i open itunes it tries to sync my whole library onto my ipod which i dont want, but now i cant drag nd drop onto it anymore , and there is a "lock" symbol beside the space that shows how much space is available on my ipod (such as the one that appears when on hold).
Any help would be great, thank you

"every time i open itunes it tries to sync my whole library onto my ipod which i dont want"
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
"but now i cant drag nd drop onto it anymore , and there is a "lock" symbol beside the space that shows how much space is available on my ipod"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab and click Apply. The text will change from grey to dark and the padlock will disappear: Managing content manually on iPod

  • Cannot drag and drop photos into folder on desktop from iphoto

Hope you can help.  I was backing up a lot of photos onto an external disk yesterday, both from iPhoto and Bridge.
The photos that are now left in iPhoto cannot be dragged and dropped into a folder on my desktop.  I had been doing this yesterday and it was working fine.
I also seem to have lost the RAW information from all the Photos and they will now only open in Photoshop if I drag them to the Photoshop icon on my desktop but they are only opening as JPEGs.  Before that I could right click the Photo and choose open in external editor, it won't let me do that anymore.
    Thanks in advance.

Maybe your  iPhoto > Preferences > Advanced > Importing  settings aren't set to "Copy items to the iPhoto Library"? If that's the case, iPhoto only references the photos from their containing folder without duplicating them, and if you move or delete that folder iPhoto looses the link to the originals photos.
If your  iPhoto > Preferences > Advanced > Importing  settings are set to "Copy items to the iPhoto Library" then the problem may also be related to what I consider a user interface bug in Mac OS X which allows you to access the content of the the iPhoto Library very easily from the Finder, which shouldn't happen (the iPhoto Library has been made into a monolitic file package in the latest versions of iLife specifically to prevent this):
Just search for any JPEG file into your hard disk and presto, every photo contained into that iPhoto Library file package appears in the Finder ready to be easily moved and deleted by the user, corrupting the iPhoto Library!
Maybe the new photos come up as JPEGs because iPhoto converts the RAW files to JPEG as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2297?viewlocale=en_US#one

  • When I try to drag and drop song into my ipod I get a black circle with a diagonal line through it?

Im trying to drag and drop songs from a new playlist that I have created but a black circle with a line through it appears meaning it wont allow me to put this song onto my ipod. I cant drag and drop any songs! ITUNES IS A NIGHTMARE TO WORK WITH AND IS NO WAY USER FRIENDLY - I HATE IT!!!!

It sounds like you are trying to manually manage the iPod's contents. If that's the case, make sure the Manually manage music and videos option is enabled from under your iPod's Summary tab.  See this article for more information.

  • I can't drag and drop music into playlists.

I used to be able to drag music to and from my playlists and main music selection. Same goes for dragging music onto my desktop or anywhere else for that matter.
I'v heard that it had something to do with Wacom tablets (Which I have), and was told to update Itunes and the tablet drivers to the newest versions, which I did, but nothing happened.
I have Mac OS Lion, if that helps. At first I thought it was just a silly new update, but now I'm not so sure.
    Help?

I'v found a quick 'fix' of sorts. If you hold down both the left and right click buttons (at the same time) when dragging, it works. It doesn't solve the problem really, but it gets around it.
There was another thread about it, and they contacted both Apple and Wacom. Both said that they are working on a fix, but so far there has been none.

  • HT2688 I cannot drag and drop songs into a newly created playlist. I have other playlists that I have created but drag and drop no longer works

Almost all of my songs have become located in a My Music folder within the general library of the harddrive of my laptop and are no longer in itunes. When I try to play a song I get the message -  "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to find it?"
This works but is impractical as it would take years import all of these songs back into itunes one at atime. How do I import all of the songs from the My Music library folder on my harddrive into itunes? Please help

Playlists are ones I have created, not smart Playlists
You can create either smart playlists (they are purple) or regular (blue) playlists.

  • Can't drag and drop files into Attachments while in Administrator mode

I can drag and drop files into attachment easily when I'm not in Administrator mode. But I need to be in Administrator mode at work and therefore for some reason I cannot drag and drop files into attachments; I'm forced to manually search and select particular files for attaching, which significantly slows my day-to-day work.
    Is it a bug?
I have the up-to-date version of Thunderbird and I use MS Windows 7 Ultimate.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thx

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • Why can't I drag and drop music from a folder on my PC into my iTunes window?

Why can't I drag and drop music from a folder on my PC into my iTunes window?
I have not found any article that has answered this question. They have come up with things like open the side bar and it will work, or you are using wrong format of music. Now this all happened when I upgraded to iTunes 10 and has not worked since and it worked fine before. Music format is correct, I have even gone as far as copying a file already in iTunes and trying to add it again. As soon as the files enters the frame of iTunes the music files icon the pointer is carrying turns into a circle with a slash through it.
ITunes Ver. is 11.1.5.5  Windows Ver. is Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center
Files I have tried adding are standard MP3, 256 kbps purchased AAC Audio file, MP3 converted by iTunes into a 256 or 320 kbps AAC Audio file. None can be draged and droped but all can added by going to File/Add File to Library...  or File/Add Folder to Library...
Add items from your computer to your iTunes library
    Do either of the following:
    1. Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window. If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
    2. In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
I can add files and folders by doing number 2 above but can not doing number 1
I have gone as far as uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling per apple procedures below.
    Steps
    1. Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended effects.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did :  Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
    Click OK.
    Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
    Works fine now.
