In ITUNES,  no podcast option under IPOD

When I go into itunes,  on the left hand side,  under the DEVICES,  my ipod shows up,  but under that there is no podcast option.
I do have podcasts enabled on my ipod,  and I have downloaded podcasts from the web,  but when I do a SYNC,  it goes through step 1,  and then completes,  and no podcasts are downloaded to my ipod.
I do not have anything else such as music on my ipod.
What am I doing wrong ?

Good thinking . . .
I had selected from the menu options the options that said :-
"Automatically include" episodes of "all podcasts"
but the tick box above it that said :-
"Sync Podcasts"
was unticked,
Thank you.

I have just downloaded itunes 10.6 and in the process my "podcast" option under library has disappeared! THe files are still on my laptop. I can also see some of my recorded music in the itunes library but can't play them - there is an exclamation mark next to each track. Basically I can't use itunes - is the only option remove and replace? Thanks in advance

Visibility of the Podcasts section is controlled from within the Edit > Preferences dialog.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    Missing tracks
Typically this can happen because a file or folder is accidentally shunted to the wrong location. iTunes can also get confused if it expects to be talking to an external drive which isn't there. If will often reset the default media folder location and may have trouble finding files in the old folders.
Select one of your tracks that is missing in action. Press CTRL-I to Get Info. Cancel when asked to try to locate the file, then look at the location given on the summary tab. This where iTunes thinks the file ought to be? Now find out where it actually is. Post back the two locations for comparison. I should be able to give you some steps to reconnect everything once I can determine which of the things that might have gone wrong is most likely in your case.
When you get it all working make a backup!

My podcasts will no longer sync with my ipod classic. Also when I tried to sync in itunes, the category "podcast" disappeared under my ipod listed in itunes.

Are you sure your iPod Classic is configured to sync podcasts to your device?  You'll want to double check by taking a quick look at your iPod's Podcast configuration tab in iTunes.
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes when it appears to bring yourself to the iPod's Summary tab. Now locate the Podcasts tab and select it.  Under this tab you can configure how and what podcasts are synced to your device. If you make any changes, be sure to click theApply button in the lower right hand corner.

  • Podcast & Audiobook Playback Options on iPod Classic?

I recently got a new iPod Classic (7th Gen) as an anniversary gift, but I've been having trouble with how it handles Podcasts & Audiobooks - the iPod I used to have was a couple of generations older (I think 5th Gen?).  Basically the two biggest issues I have are:
    1. Podcasts - the older iPod used to play just a single episode, and then exit back to the main menu once the episode was over (unless I queued several episodes together in a playlist).  The new iPods treat podcasts like an album, and continue playing the next track.  This wouldn't be an issue, except that podcasts are sorted in newest -> oldest order, such that it will play Episode 13, then move on to the next track which is Episode 12, and I have to stop it, go back to the menu, and select Episode 14.  Is there any way to get the order to sort ascending (changing it in iTunes didn't appear to affect the order on the iPod at all)?  Or at least an option to play only one episode at a time and not automatically cycle through them?
    2. Audiobooks - I classified my audiobooks into various genres such as "Classics", "Fantasy", "SciFi", etc. in iTunes, and on the old iPod, these genres would show up under Music->Genres in the iPod menu (alongside Rock, Pop, etc.).  This appears to no longer be the case.  Similarly, audiobook authors no longer appear in the list of Artists and audiobook titles no longer show under Albums.  It appears the only way to access audiobooks now is through the
Music->Audiobooks menu?  And unfortunately it appears as though the Audiobooks menu only lists individual track names, and not Artist or Album?  To make matters worse, the track names are being sorted alphabetically and ignoring the Disc # & Track # metadata stored in iTunes.  Is there any way to fix any of this?
Any help would be appreciated!  I've poked around in the settings both on the iPod itself and in iTunes with the iPod connected, but I haven't found a way to correct any of these issues yet.

I've found a workaround for this problem: the Join Together v5.1 iTunes script from Doug's AppleScripts combine the segments into two large AAC files.
Now it's OK if the iPod stops playing segments after they finish because they're hours long instead of minutes.

  • Podcast on my iPod Touch 4 That iTunes Doesn't See!

I'll try to make this short:
I "create" a lot of my own "podcasts" - basically stuff I don't want mixed in with my music.
I edit the properties in Windows by right clicking on "Properties" and changing everything there.
    Paragraph 3:
When I am ready to put the "podcast" on my iPod, I open iTunes, and copy the file into the Music folder of the iTunes Library.  Next, I right click on the newly added file, click the Info item, which opens up a dialog box where I can change the title, artist name, track #, just about anything.  I can also make it part of a compliation and a podcast under the Options tab.
At that point, the file disappears from music and reappears in the Podcast folder of the iTunes library.  From there I am able to copy the "podcast" directly to the Podcasts folder of my Touch 4.
However, with this particular file, when it was still in the Music folder of iTunes I was not able to make any changs after going into Info.  All options were, as they say, grayed out.  I did discover that I could copy the file directly to the Podcast folder of the iPod itself, visible via iTunes.  Success!  But wait - there's more!
I later made some edits to the original file on my PC, and wanted to put it in iTunes and on my touch.  This time I was able to complete the procedure in Paragraph 3, and copy it to my Touch's Podcasts folder.  Alas, I now have that podcast on my Touch twice, even tough iTunes sees it only ONCE.
So my question is: Is there any way to delete the instance of the podcast that I do NOT want on the touch, while leaving the corrected version on there?

    Did yo do this?
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Did it start after updating iTunes on the computer?

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • IPod Touch listed device in iTunes, but no option to sync

I am having a problem syncing my 4th gen iPod Touch with iTunes on a Windows Vista Ultimate PC.  Here are the symptoms of my issue:
I have connected the iPod Touch with its USB adapter to the PC.
The iPod shows as a connected Portable Device in Computer in Windows.
    The iPod charges while connected.
When I connect the iPod to the PC, iTunes opens automatically.  The iPod is listed under "Devices" in iTunes, but when I click on the device, the screen just shows an iPod logo.  I do not see the tabs ("Summary", "Apps", "Music", "Movies", etc.) and no summary information about the iPod is displayed.
When I right-click on the iPod under Devices, the only menu option is "Eject".  In addition, the "File" menu options "Sync Songs on iPod" and "Transfer Purchases from iPod" are greyed out/not available.
I have tried using a different USB port, powering off the iPod, restarting the computer, and checking that the iPod shows as functioning in Device Manager in Windows.
I have the latest version of iTunes (10.4.0.80)
I have synced three other iPods successfully to this PC with this version of iTunes (each iPod, including the one with which I am having the problem, syncs to iTunes on a separate Windows User account to keep the libraries separate).  Therefore, I don't believe there is a problem with my installation of iTunes.
Given this background, does anyone have any ideas how I can get this iPod to sync with iTunes?  Thank you in advance for any advice you might be able to give me.
    Regards-
    BPT

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync

I have a problem with the iTunes Store, I have an ipod and an iphone 2. I have a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 2007, entering into iTunes Store on the main screen I get only AppStore, Podcast and iTunes U. In my screen I get only ipad2 Podcast, iTunes U Downloads. My problem is I can not access any application to download music, videos, books, etc..
ITunes will be installed wrong or what should I do to activate these options?

Go to the front page of the Store, and click Change Country.  Make sure it is set to the country where you actually are.
Then you will be able to see everything that is for sale in your country, which, depending where you live, might or might not include music.

  • ITunes no longer shows 'Podcasts' item under iPhone device section.

    Stats:
    iPhone 4 (32GB)
    iOS version 4.3.3
    iTunes for Windows 7 (64-bit) Version 10.3.1.55
I have iTunes set to manually manage my music and podcasts. Previously I had done this by clicking on the "Podcasts" item under the iPhone device section. Here I would delete podcasts I had previously listened to and drag new podcasts from the "podcasts" item under the Library section. As of today, when I connect my iPhone to my computer, it no longer lists a "podcasts" item under my iPhone in the Devices section.
Now I can't fine a place to delete old podcasts. I also do NOT want to use iTunes sync function for podcasts. Anyone else having this issue?
    -Mike

Just found out. You select the podcast page on your iPhone 4. You drag your finger, from right to left, over the screen, just like you do to delete e-mails. The delete option will present itself. Touch the delete button and confirm. The podcast will be deleted.

  • ITunes no longer shows podcasts played from iPod

It's just recently that I can no longer see which of the podcasts that I've already listened to on either of my two shuffles (2nd and 3rd gen). Also I used to be able to delete a "listened to" podcast in iTunes and it would automatically delete it from the iPod listing as well. Now I have to glance back and forth between iPod and iTune to determine which and been hear and which have been deleted. Previous ability to see "listened to" podcast from an iPod was much more user friendly than current version.

  • Podcasts no longer appear under ipod device in I tunes library.  I can access podcasts on my ipod but I CANNOT access podcasts on I tunes library.  I have disconnected and reconnected.  I have restored my ipod.  I have checked for updates. What else?

'Podcasts' under Ipod device disappeared in Itunes library.  I can't manage my podcasts on ipod via I tunes library.  I can access the podcasts on my ipod (5th generation), itself. I can access and manage music.   I can add more podcasts to ipod.  The podcast icon reappears with only the newly added podcasts.   When I disconnect ipod and reconnect ipod, 'podcasts' no longer appears under the device.  So I am unable to manage my podcasts on I tunes library which means I can't delete podcasts from I tunes library.  I can only add podcasts. I have disconnected and reconnected ipod.  I have checked for updates.  I have restored the ipod to it's original settings.  My next step will be to install and reinstall I tunes.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

To be clear, the podcast icon disappeared under Ipod device in Itunes.  I can access and manage the podcasts in the itunes library.  I can't manage podcasts on my ipod via itunes (which means I can't delete podcasts from my ipod). I can access podcasts on my ipod, itself.

  • Podcast category for iPod Touch does not show in iTunes

When connecting my iPod Touch to iTunes, the "Podcasts" category no longer appears in the sidebar under "Devices". The category DOES appear under the Library portion of the sidebar, however. I prefer to manage and sync my podcasts manually within iTunes, but I now have no way of removing old podcasts from my iPod.
I'm running iTunes 10.0.1.22 under Windows XP and my iPod Touch 3rd generation is running iOS 4.0.

  • In iTunes I can't drag and drop podcasts onto my iPod anymore.

In iTunes I can't drag and drop podcasts onto my iPod anymore. I can still drag and drop songs onto my iPod and I can still drag and drop podcasts into other playlists. I've tried restarting my computer and my iPod and I've also checked for software updates for the iPod and iTunes. Help?

Update: I seem to have fixed the problem!  I went to the "summary" section of my iPod after clicking on the device on the left side of iTunes.  I checked the box that allowed me to "manually manage music and videos" and applied this option.  The songs are syncing!  And, yay, they're playing on my iPod now!  Hopefully, this helps anyone else who might have this problem.  There might be other issues, but this is working for now.

  • Podcasts not showing up in iTunes or in Podcast folder in iPod

What is happening, is that my iPod is full of podcasts, yet I can only find them on my iPod if I look under artists, they are no longer under podcasts.
This is also screwing with iTunes as when I try and delete these podcasts to make room...they do not appear in iTunes at all.
Also when I look in iTunes under the "devices - my ipod" it says the total space for songs is a bunch of random letters and numbers.
This started happening after I realized that most of my album art turned all black in most of my songs.
Anyone have any advice besides a reformat (do not have copies of photos and songs that are on my iPod and do not want to lose them.)?

Well considering no one replied. What I had to do was this.
Go under iPod in My Computer (as a device plugged in). Then make sure hidden folders are visible. Then search under the Ipod_Control folders for the titles of all the podcasts that were missing. I then deleted them and now have room back on my Ipod...thank you Itunes.

  • Podcast plays on itunes but wont transfer to Ipod

    Hi
I have recently subscribed to a podcast(audio) and downloaded a few episodes. Problem- although it plays on iTunes it won't transfer over to my iPod( 30gb Video)when I sync it.I get a message that says the this podcast won't play on my iPod. Why? I subscribe to another 7 or 8 podcasts that I have no problem with. Any advice?
    Bob

In iTunes, go to edit-->preferences. Click the Advanced tab. Click the importing tab under that. Set Import Using to AAC Encoder and make sure the Setting is High Quality. Click OK.
Right click one of the podcast episodes that will not transfer and go to convert selection to AAC. Delete the original episode. See if that converted episode transfers.
Also, go to edit-->preferences with the iPod connected and click the iPod tab. Click the podcasts tab under that. Make sure it is set to automatically transfer all podcasts. Click OK.
