In-Line Objects

As a long-time Word user whose patience with Word's quirks has runout, I am quite new to Pages. I am having problems getting an object to move with the text as I edit documents. I use graphical research models to explain hypotheses. These models bascially consist of oval shapes and arrows. When I create the model it stays fixed to the same page regardless of changes in the text. When I change the placement to "moves with text" the ovals and arrows move all over the page?!? I just need the model to move as a unit with any changes in the text. Please help with hopefully simply problem.

What you need to do is select all the component objects of your diagram by using shift-clicking or dragging a box from off the page around all of them. Once they are all selected, pick Group off the Arrange menu. Then Pages will treat the grouped graphics as a single object and move them as a unit.
If you want the object to move with your text then select that option. You can only then affect how the text wraps around your object by choosing the object causes wrap option and picking the appropriate icon for the layout you want.
If you want to move the object, all you can do is cut and paste it to the middle of some other text. You can't say something as complex as the bottom right of whatever page a particular bit of text is on.
As someone else posted here earlier, it might be useful for you to create your diagrams in keynote and paste them into pages afterwards (grouping the objects beforehand of course).

Line objects not showing in pdf output in xmlp 5.6.1

Is there a bug or just a version issue when trying to produce pdf output using xmlp 5.6.1 Enterprise Edition from a template built in xmlp 5.6.2 stand alone? Different versions of pdf too. The xmlp 5.6.1 EE uses Adobe 7.0.7 and I use 7.0.0 for my dpf output. The issue is that the template built using 5.6.2 has line objects in the rtf file. When this template is registered in xmlp 5.6.1 EE and the report is generated the lines don't show up in the pdf.

I opened a TAR and here is the answer. My template definition was wrong because I directly used my data template xml file to define my template using template builder.
Here are all the steps to use XML data template under apps.
To use data templates, do the following:
1- Create the data template similar to the following structure
2- Login to responsibility "XML PUBLISHER ADMINISTRATOR" -> Data Definition
2.1 upload the data template (that is made in step1)
2.2 Insert a new code that is not find the concurrent request short name.
3- Login to system administrator -> concurrent -> program -> define (define a new concurrent request as following)
3.1 use execute XDODTEXE (it takes the data definition in step 2 and shall execute the query to obtain XML output)
3.2 Output format = XML
3.3 request short name as that defined in step (2.2)
4- Add the request to a request group
5- The the concurrent request and get the created XML output
6- Use the created XML Output in (step 5) to create your template layout using Template builder vers
ion 5.5
7- After creating the template go to responsibility "XML PUBLISHER ADMINISTRATOR" -> Templates
7.1 define a new template
7.2 use the same data definition that you created at (step 2)
7.3 Use the same code as in step (2.2)
After all the above steps you shall get the output as you wish. The main link between Data template and the concurrent request that execute the data template to generate the XML output is the request short name and the data template code.
Hint:
request short name = data template code.

Out of line object 'DataSource' -- but when re-saving table properties, no issues

I've got a PowerPivot workbook that's connecting to an Oracle database, then calculating a few measures. When I "test the connnection" in PowerPivot, it's fine. When I go to "Table Properties" and re-save, it seems to pull the dataset
fine. But refreshing within Excel gives me,

My data types seem right, and I don't have any big dates. Is my workbook just corrupt? I'd love to not re-do it, so any tips to getting this fixed would be great!

You mentioned that you don't have any big dates but do you have any dates that are too small? What happens when you use the Table Properties to restrict dates to all be on or after 1/1/2000, for example?

Image in report header appears in front of underlaying section line objects

Hello
I am trying to simulate a company letter header with company logo in page header. I have added line objects in the underlaying sections so the user can see when the detail data/section ends.
I have inserted an image into a report header
I have set the page header to 'Underlay Following Sections'
when I preview the report, line objects in underlying sections appear behind the page header image
when I preview the report, text objects in underlying sections appear in front of the page header image
Has anybody any ideas or better ways of achieving same results please?

text objects are not behaving the same way, as a workaround I have set the top/bottom/left/right border property to single and used these instead of boxes or lines.

Thanks for your patience while this was being investigated. So the way Crystal Report's layout was designed was that items are put in a stack of multiple objects with the ability to move forward and back as needed. For some technical reason lines and boxes were left out of this which means they will always be in the back. Unfortunately we don't know the technical reasons that this was done as it goes back to some of our earliest versions, we are investigating this though.
The difficulty know is trying to find the reason for this, and determining if this can be changes with out breaking backwards compatibility. In the mean time the developer has suggested a work around and are wondering if this would work for you?
1. Insert a text object and enter nothing.
2. Change the size (the height matches the line width) and background (background color matches the line color).
3. Right click on the text object and select Move | To Front. And then the "line" will be on top of the picture.

Et_FORM_DATA_ADD, problem in getting Line object

This is my first time using the et_FORM_DATA_ADD event. Objective: upon Add the Quotation, check each UnitPrice in the Document line. Are you shure the business object does already exist in db on et_FORM_DATA_ADD beforeAction (Does getByKey return true)? Do DocNum and DocEntry make sense?

or does that affect your idea of approving?

HELP! PDF objects - How to create a program line object?

Hi Experts,
I would like to know how to create a Program lines object (icon cog wheels). I need to create additional coding inside the context tab but when I try to right click on a folder --> create -->graphic,address,text,alternative...single record... No
program lines can be created.

There are two ways of doing it, depending on what you want to accomplish. Both require that you edit the file ~/.bashrc (I assume you use bash)
1) If the application places all the executable files in a given directory (let's say /opt/Application/bin/), you can access all those executables directly by simply telling your shell where to look (in the same way the shell automatically looks for executable files in eg. /usr/bin). In ~/.bashrc, you would have to add a line that looks like this:
PATH="$PATH:/opt/Application/bin"
2) If you just want to make a traditional "shortcut" that executes a given command, this can be done with alias. Add this command to your ~/.bashrc:
alias shortcut="some command"
In this case, typing shortcut into a terminal will be interpreted just like if you had typed some command instead.
In order to try out these changes, either restart your terminal or run this command:
source ~/.bashrc

How to create a line object

I'm making a diagram drawing program that is very similar to Microsoft Visio. I want to draw a line on my canvas with two end points, which can be dragged to change the size and direction of the line. I also want to be able to click on the line itself to drag the line without changing any other properties. is it possible to do this?

I don't know where to start. If I make my canvas a JPanel and my line a Jcomponent. I'm going to have issues when I draw the line onto the canvas. I can't really call the function setbounds() on my line object because that would return a rectangular area, which can cause problems if i have several diagonal lines in the same vicinity. but if I don't call setbounds(), my mouselisteners will not be able to detect mouse events on that object. That's my trouble.

Can the position of a vertical line object be changed in run time

I added some vertical line objects into my report in design mode, but the position of them can't be determined until the run time. So I have to change the position dynamically, such as " lineObject.Left = 200; ........" . But I'm confronted with an exception, System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException, and it says that " The line object's coordinates are not valid. Only vertical or horizontal lines are supported.". Finally, can the position of a vertical line object be changed in run time? if can, how to do it??

PDF file has three parallel lines for each line object.

Working with Illustrator CS5 on a Windows 7 64-bit PC.
When opening files created with a CAD application, I noticed that most each line, whether straight or curve, appeared to be an extended ellipse. In most cases, they contained a line in the middle.
A closer observation determined that the lines where all separate objects, as shown in the figure below.
As you can imagine, the extra objects increase the size of the PDF file enormously.
Since I am using these files in MS Word, I need to convert them to either EMF or WMF format. However, Illustrator exports even larger files. I managed to reduce the size of the PDF, but the exported files are even larger than the original PDF file. Saving the original PDF file in AI format did not help either.
The only way I see to reduce the file size, whether PDF or AI, is to eliminate the extra lines. Other than deleting each line at a time or redrawing the entire file, which I am already doing, is there any way to eliminate those pesky extra lines?

That would have been the easiest way. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
If you look at the inserted figure, you would see that the half circle at the end of each triple line is a separate object. This means that all the lines, whether internal or external, are in fact individual strokes.

Moving line objects

Hi,
I am using Keynote 2 and have problems moving objects consiting of thin lines (like a circle) out of an area with many similar objects with the mouse. It is already difficult to mark a specific object with the mouse, but grabbing it without marking another object in that area seems to be impossible.

I'm not sure what you mean by "mark" the objects. If an object is locked, even if it is selected, it will not move when you move some other object. You can, for example, selected a locked object along with an unlocked one, and the cursor keys will only move the unlocked item. To make an unlocked shape easier to move, you can even select it along with locked items, and then fill the shape -- all the locked shapes will remain unchanged. Once filled, it is easy to grab the unlocked shape with the cursor, move it, and then unfill it again.

Why does consecutive figure numbering break when using anchored and in-lin objects

I have an ID CC2014 document that contains graphics with figure numbers associated (using a defined paragraph style - numbered list - continue from previous) and when I place these into the flow of the document with a wrap associated to them they maintain the consecutive numbering that was set up in the figure style sheet. However when a table or graphic is placed in-line with the text (anchored graphic box or inserted table) the consecutive figure numbering doesn't continue, it restarts as #1. The next anchored or inserted item then sees this figure number and follows as if the list was restarted. What is up?
I have found that if all items are used as wrap graphics or separate text/table boxes the figure numbering functions as it should.
Is this a glitch?

I had that happen a month or so ago. What I discovered was there was another numbered list setting in the anchored frames. That's what was restarting the numbers. No glitch. User error.

The inline line object in the header is offset in facing pages. How can I make it align with the outer margin?

I have a Pages document with a header that contains both text and a line (a shape, inline) below the text. When I make the document two-sided (facing pages), with a 1" inside margin and a .75" outside margin, the line offsets either left or right in each section of the document. When a section starts with a right-hand page, the line is right justified on ALL the pages in the section (1" from the left and .75" from the right), even though it should be .75" from the LEFT on the LEFT-HAND pages. When a section starts with a left-hand page, the line is left justified on ALL the pages in the section.
Is there any way to get the header line to align with the margins properly in facing pages?

Click on Inspector > Layout > Section > Configuration
Is there a tick in 'Left and right pages are different'?
Please post a screen shot of your headers. That will help to show what you are trying to achieve.
To take a screen shot, hold down the shift and command keys, then type 4. The cursor will change to crosshairs. Release the shift and command keys. Drag over that part of your screen then release the mouse/trackpad. A screen shot will appear on your desktop. In a reply to a message, click on the camera icon in the Toolbar above your reply and
Choose File > Choose > Insert Image
You may have to try this twice. Camera icon sometimes needs a wake-up call, but works the second time.
Remove any personal details before taking the screen shot.

Can I create draggable Line Object?

Sure if you know what the coordinates of your endpoints are. You could then calculate where the line itself is. You may need to create a few custom methods/classes for your program, but it can definantly be done.
