In Mac Mail sent messages show as 'from'

I am using Mac Mail for my Macbook Air and iPhone. When I go to the sent folder on either device my name is displayed as 'from'. I know it's from me, da! And can't get it to change to the 'to' display. I have changed the view > message attributes > to but then that changes my inbox to my name as the 'to' display. I have read numerous issues with this over the past 4 years but nothing has been fixed?
Anyone?

I should add that this is not an issue of the badge telling me that I have mail and then when I open the app, it corrects itself.  The emails on my iphone actually appear unread until I read them again on the phone.

  • Erasing Mac Mail Sent messages

As a customer of Earthlink, I use Mac Mail for e-mail. I have over 300 messages in my Sent box and would like to get rid of most of them, but that action seems to be blocked by one large file I sent recently that does not allow me to trash it and keeps all messages sent before it from being trashed. Earthlink tells me this is an Apple issue. Can anyone suggest what to do?

You might be better off re-posting this in the Mail for Panther forum:

I remember threads from some years ago about big messages stuck in mailboxes and trashing something or other to fix it, but none of the details.

  • Why have my mac mail sent messages disappeared on one computer but not the other?

My mac mail account on my Air is not showing my sent messages other than the one I just sent.  To find the variables, I checked my mac mail on my iMac and my sent messages are there.
Not sure what the problem is but I look forward to some help.
    Thanks.

I note that I just found all previous sent messages in the separate sent messages folder on my sidebar (minus the message that appears in my regular Sent Mailbox).  I just moved these to the Sent mailbox and will wait to see if they appear there (in the sent mailbox) once it has processed this action.

  • When I send a message using hotmail.co.uk, it does not appear in my Mac Mail sent box. How do I rectify this?

I am using Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.2) on my MacBook (mid-2009); Mail version 6.1 (1498).
My incoming mail server is pop3.live.com (Hotmail).
When I send an email on the Hotmail website, it does not register in my Mac Mail sent box.
    How do I rectify this?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

You have to send it from the Mail program on the Mac not the website. When you send it from the website it is in the sent folder on the website.
I handle all my mail in the Mac Mail program never the website.

  • How do I save "Sent" messages when sending from the ipad

How do I save "Sent" messages when sending from the ipad2?

By default sent items should be saved in your Sent folder. For IMAP type accounts you should be able to change that by selecting the account in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then selecting 'Account' on the popup for it and then 'Advanced' at the bottom of the next popup

I have also had a bit of help and advice from a knowlegable friend and he thinks the source of the deletions may be that the account is an IMAP account on the new machine and my iphone but a POP3 accont on my old machine. I have turned off the old machine to see if this changes the behaviours on the other machines.
This is a very good start.

  • Mac Mail won't remove copy from server

My mail remains in the ISP's Inbox despite the proper setting in my Mac Mail program to remove copy from server immediately after downloading. Even after I close my mail program, the old mail will not be deleted. I must go to my Inbox via the Net and delete the mail with a global tag/delete.
This problem began 5 to 7 months ago. Before that the auto deletion worked fine, and it worked fine in older versions of OS X. Is this an ISP compatibility? A bug in the current Mac Mail release? A bug in Tiger?
I asked my ISP and his first reply said this is one of many bugs in Mac Mail and I should switch to Thunderbird. I'll look at that but I prefer to use Apple software.
After 4 years I know how seldom Apple debugs Mail and Safari. Does anyone know if an update of Mail is on Apple's schedule?

Try changing the setting to After one day or When moved

    I'll do that.
BTW, have you actually tried using another mail
    client such as Thunderbird
to check whether the same happens there as well?
My ISP, who hosts a university and has a higher percentage of Mac users than most, recommended Thunderbird so I presume it does well here at Ntelos.net

  • Sent message from Mac Mail work email shows my personal gmail account as Mail to: and account summary shows outgoing mail server as smtp.google while incoming shows imap.google

sent email from work through Mac Mail shows to the sender Mail to: (personal gmail). Account summary shows smtp.google on outgoing server and imap.google on incoming

Is there a way to add this automatically?
For a semi-permanent change, the Sending Server is named as "OutGoing Mail Server SMTP" on the Preference pane for each Mail Account.
To change its specifics, move the mouse cursor over it and choose "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down Menu. Then choose the SMTP Server you wish to inspect/change and its information will be shown. If using similar ones for two different email accounts, change the description field, e.g., change "gmail" to "gmail (work)".

  • IOS 4 Mail Threading  - should sent messages show?

    Hi There,
I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 4. I've set up Gmail (Exchange) and also a Rackspace provisioned IMAP account.
I've mapped the Rackspace account's paths for /Sent, /Drafts, etc.
Regardless of whether I'm replying from desktop or the iPhone mail app, my replies do not show in threads.
Are Sent messages supposed to show up? Or are threads simply 'incoming messages' with the same shared subject?
I was under the impression a thread was more like a Gmail thread where sent/received messages with a shared header are all displayed chronologically.
    Any insight would be appreciated!

I have the same issue and it is driving me a little nuts.
Some of my messages in the iPhone native mail app seem to show threaded.. i.e. there is a small number next to a message to show how many contributions to the thread and inside the thread I can see my friend's email and then above my email and then above my email back to them and so on... Yet this is by far the minority of the messages. Most show only the mail received from the other party in the conversation. And the small number which states how many messages are in the thread is different than the figure in Gmail which notifies of same.. because of course half the threads are not there!
I've tried many solutions - including one which had me go into Gmail, remove all of the 'inbox' labels from my email (effectively remove my mail from the inbox), re-add my messages to the Inbox, and then pull email back into my iPhone.. phew. After which things seemed to work on some conversations. Yet back to square one now.
I have tried the Exchange mail option, the Gmail option. I've tried push and fetch methods. I've tried deleting and starting again. No luck.
I though the issue may be that I was replying from within iPhone then continuing some conversations in Gmail online. That didn't seem to be the issue. I've now seen note that Google is offering the ability to 'turn off' conversations in Gmail.. perhaps rolling out this option has caused server issues with Push mail. Don't know.
Either way it seems I must use Gmail via their mobile view in Safari - which actually works very well, with much of the native Gmail functionality.
Is there a likelihood Apple will fix what is going on? Is it an iOS 4 issue? Or is it a Gmail issue? Very strange, very frustrating...

  • Why won't Mac Mail receive messages from Yahoo?

I use Mac Mail as an IMAP on both my MBA (OS X 10.6.2) and MBP (OS X 10.6.8).  My MBA also syncs with my Dad's MobileMe account.  About 4 weeks ago my MBA spontaneously stopped receiving mail from my Yahoo account (and sending...sometimes).  It thinks a lot and sometimes even shows me it's about to start downloading emails but it doesn't follow through and they never show up in the inbox.  The sound for no mail goes off when it finally finishes thinking.  Now my MBP stopped receiving mail today as well - same symptoms.  (My Dad's MobileMe is the only email account still working.)  I can see the new emails on the server and my BlackBerry so my guess is that it's a Mac Mail problem.  What gives?  How do I fix?

    Pressed "Rebuild" and nothing happened.
Did you have that account highlighted?
Well, don't know much about Mail in 10.7, but here's my 10.4/10.5 notes...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Since I got my iPhone4 whenever I sent a message the sent message showed up in a box with a green background.  Yesterday the background switched from green to blue.  Does this signify anything?

Does the background color of the box containing a sent message have any significance?  As in, it was green and now it's blue.

To expand on the previous poster.
    For those blue iMessages.
    http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#imessage
Messages sent when blue don't use up your SMS plan with your carrier, purely data through Apple.
Only works when messagings another iPhone user running iOS5 or later.
