In Mail how do I link a mailbox to an account?

This is pretty elementary but I've never used mailboxes other than the main inboxes of my two accounts. How do I create a mailbox (not to be confused with the Inbox) for a specific account?
I ask because I'm trying an Applescript that involves moving mail to a destination mailbox "of account 'X' " (or 'Gmail' in my case) from the Inbox. Mail Help sets out how to create a mailbox but not how to associate it with a particular account, unless I'm missing something. Mail offers me the location "On My Mac" but that's about it.

First create a mailbox to hold your messages.
Next go to Mail > Preferences > Rules and add a new rule.  Give it a name then select "if ANY of the following are met:"  Select "Account" and the name of the Account.  For the action select "Move Message" to mailbox "Your mailbox's name."

    How to show a Junk mailbox in a POP account
    I have two POP accounts on my iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1. The two accounts are identical except for the user name and of course the email address. In one account I have a Junk folder to which incoming messages can be moved. In the other account I have no such mailbox and can't for the life of me figure out how to show one.
    The steps to show one should (I think) be as follows, which works in the 'cooperative' account, and also on a second iPhone 5s:
    1) Open Mail.app.
    2) Heading: Mailboxes. Tap 'Edit'.
    3) Scroll down and tap 'Add Mailbox..'
    4) Tap account name.
    5) Tap 'Junk' (checks item).
    6) Tap Done, Done, Done (Junk mailbox appears in Mailbox list, and incoming messages can be moved there.)
    The problem in the uncooperative account is that at Step 5, there is no Junk item to check. There are only Sent and Trash. (In the other account there are Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash).
    Solutions or suggestions welcome.

    Hopefully the screenshot will show.

  • When I send a link via e-mail, how can the link stay hot so that the person getting it can forward to another?

    I type a link to our server in an e-mail. I have tested the link and it works. The person getting the link clicks on it and it works. The person getting it forwards the e-mail to another and the link does not work for the second person.

    It's easy just write it like this :
    http://www.google.com
    i used google as a example you can replace it with any other link but keep http://
    i wish that helps

  • Reverted OS with MobileMe associated, how can I link it to my iCloud account?

    Hi, I have three Apple Compueter, all of them had iCloud running.
    I had a disk failure on one of them and I found that the only working copy of my disk image with the Apps and files has MobileMe on it right before migrating.
    How can set up my iCloud account again on this Mac?
    When I get to the iCloud log on, it says that I must migrate my data from MobileMe to iCloud, problem is that MobileMe is long gone. Any way to remove it?
    Thank you,
    JM

    Hi,
    Yes  was a rever to 10.7.x but I am now in 10.7.5. However, the image I had backed up had MobileMe credentials and when I try to log onto iCloud, it tells me I have to migrate from MobileMe.
    I believe what I am trying to do is disasociate the MobileMe account then go directly to iCloud on this machine.
    Thank you,
    JM

  • In Apple Mail, how can I maintaining Mailbox links when migrating hosting?

    First, I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered.  If so, please kindly point me to the appropriate discussion.
    I'm in the process of changing hosting for one of my (several) websites and email addresses.  I have been using Apple Mail succesfully with the site email using IMAP for several years, and have many thousands of messages, many of which that have been moved into different folders in Mac Mail locally (not the IMAP folders).  What I'd like to know is if it's possible to maintain all of these links during and after I migrate my website and all server mail to a new hosting company.  I'm very paranoid that all of my links (to mail in those boxes, and relationships to sent mail) will be lost, and that all that mail will simply redownload to the primary Inbox.
    On a separate note, I'd also like to know if, once the above issue has been addressed and resolved, it's possible to copy my entire Mail application to another computer so that I can keep a mirror copy of two mail applications fucntioning like an exchange server.  Meaning, if I download one piece of mail on one computer, it will automatically be downloaded and marked as read on the other *and* if that mail is moved to a local Mail folder, if it will be moved on the other computer in the other Mail application.  Basically so that all mail and mail relationships stay in sync across multiple machines.
    Hope this question makes sense.  I'm happy to elaborate, and am appreciative of any help.

    Ok, so even thought no one has answered, it appears that once I move mail to the "On My Mac" mailboxes, they no longer exist on the server (though they can be moved back there if desired).  Which means that I'm fine if I migrate my hosting to a new server, and redownload them, because the mail in "On My Mac" will be untouched.  The only thing I don't know about is the "Sent" mail, but I believe those also exist on the server, and therefore if I migrate them then the link relationships are maintained (no idea about the mail that is "On My Mac" that has links to "Sent" mail in the server, but I guess that isn't so important).
    As for keeping a completely syncronizable Mail application - the only way it appears I'd be able to do that is to forgo "On My Mac" entirely, and keep *all* mail on the server.  If I want to move mail into different folders, those folders would have to be Server folders created for that account, and hosted by that hosting company.  This actually doesn't seem like such a bad move, especially as we get further and further away from having only one device that we use to process Mail.
    Are there any disadvantages to *not* using the local "On My Mac" folders?  Are there any major advantages to using them?

  • How can i link my E-mail with my iPad in a way that i can delete my messages from my email inbox server not from my iPad inbox only?

    How can i link my E-mail with my iPad in a way that i can delete my messages from my email inbox server also not from my iPad inbox only?
    Because when i delete emails from my iPad inbox, it will be deleted on my iPad only but when i check my email inbox server from the browser its not deleted!
    So how can i set up this link so when i delete any email from my iPad it will be deleted from my email inbox server also?

    Hi Pierrot10,
    Insert your backup disc (or plug your external hd), then open Mail.
    In the File menu, click *Import Mailboxes* and follow the steps for a *Mail for Mac OS X* transfer.
    Navigate to your CD/DVD's or external HD's backup and hit "OK".
    This should create a new "Imported" folder in Mail with all your old messages in it, that you can then rearrange as you wish, creating new mailboxes etc.

    How can I remove a mailbox address from the "From" drop down box in a new e-mail my old e-mail address continue to populate as the sender address

    Hello,
    Try Mail>Preferences>Accounts icon>Account Information tab>Click on the Outgoing SMTP server drop down, choose edit Server list, highlight the old one & click Remove.
    (Such convolution is worthy of Windows® in my estimation)

  • How do I configure OS X Server (Mountain Lion) to deliver mail from another domain to my mailbox?

    How do I configure OS X Server (Mountain Lion) to deliver mail from another domain to my mailbox?
    I run a personal Server at my office. It's configured under my own domain as server.mydomain.com. It's setup that it properly receives and sends e-mail for mydomain.com. I use my own mailbox [email protected] to get all my personal mail.
    I'm looking to add another domain as a secondary way for people to get to my content and information.
    I want the same address [email protected] and [email protected] to arrive in the same mailbox at my server.
    How do i do that?

    it does look like you can add virtual domains in the GUI of Server.app on at least some versions, but I don't have an OS X Server 10.8 version handy to check.
    I'd encourage spending some time to learn the command line.  In general, the payoff for learning the command line will be worth the effort expended.  You're running a mail server here and sooner or later the capabilities of the GUI will fail you.  This whether due to a configuration omission in the GUI itself, or due to the need to troubleshoot a malfunctioning mail server, a need to automate one or more of the Postfix-related sequences, or some other IT-related task.  Entirely FWIW, of course.
    Here's a cut-and-paste of the sequence just used to test the command line access to the Postfix configuration, first fetching the current value, appending example.com as the second domain, then displaying the new value, then restarting the Postfix server.  Don't enter the dollar signs; just the postconf command and following.  Adjust example.com to match your domain...
    $ postconf mydestination
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost
    $ sudo postconf -e 'mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, example.com'
    Password: {your admin password here}
    $ postconf mydestination
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, example.com
    $ sudo postfix reload
    The Postfix and Postconf commands work irrespective of the OS X Server version; the tools reference the data files as needed.

  • How do I hide my mailbox and mail contents from other users, leaving other functions of my iMac accessible?

    How do I hide my mailbox and mail contents from other users, leaving other functions of my iMac accessible?

    You don't have to shut down the computer to switch accounts. All you do is click the Apple symbol in the upper left and choose Log Out and that's it. You can also set up Faster User Switching by:
    1. Open System Preferences - Accounts
    2. Click Login Options
    3. Check the box called "Show fast user switching menu as" then choose from either icon, short name or name.
    Then when someone wants to switch users they can. The advantage of this method is if you are have a document open and don't want to close it the document will remain open. If the other user attempts to shut down the computer they can't until you have logged out thereby saving all your data.
    A very simple and elegant solution.

  • How do I force smart mailbox to only show me mail from one mailbox while also showing multiple senders?

    How do I force smart mailbox to only show me mail from one mailbox while also showing multiple senders?

    It would help to post what you've tried. It does, indeed, appear that -h is the switch, and the man includes several examples, so if you've followed the examples and it's not working then that hints that you should pass it back to Apple.
    You also don't say how you're implementing your change. Are you invoking slapd manually, or are you editing /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.openldap.slapd.plist ?
    You should be doing the latter, and I'd expect to see something like this:
    <array>
      <string>/usr/libexec/slapd</string>
      <string>-d</string>
      <string>0</string>
      <string>-h</string>
      <string>ldap://x.x.x.20/ ldap://127.0.0.1/ ldapi://%2Fvar%2Frun%2Fldapi</string>
    </array>
    (note the inclusion of ldap://127.0.0.1/ as an entry - you'll need to run on localhost as well the .20 address since all the local services will look to localhost)
    You might also need an ldaps URL if you're using SSL but let's walk before we try to run
